Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has said that pure electoral rolls containing names of all eligible electors as per law are the foundation of any democracy. He made these remarks while addressing the closing session of the India International Conference on Democracy and Election Management (IICDEM) in New Delhi today. He said that during the three-day discussions at IICDEM, key views have been summarised in five pillars. Mr Kumar added that election management bodies should thrive to provide a photo identity card to all electors for easy and transparent conduct of elections.
Mr Kumar also urged operationalising the pillars through cooperation, innovation, and actions, with annual reviews.

During the meetings, a wide range of global electoral experiences and innovations were discussed. During the interactions, India offered to collaborate with the Election Management Bodies (EMBs) to help them develop technology platforms similar to ECINET in their respective countries, as per their own laws.
