It serves as the cornerstone of transparent governance, holding those in power accountable, fostering informed public debate, and empowering citizens to make informed decisions.Without a free press, voices go unheard, injustices remain unexposed, and democracy falters. This year, the Government of Chile and UNESCO will host the 31st World Press Freedom Day Conference in Santiago, with the theme for 2024 being “A Press for the Planet: Journalism in the Face of the Environmental Crisis.” As we commemorate World Press Freedom Day today, let us reflect on the importance of free and independent media and recommit ourselves to the protection and promotion of this fundamental human right as together, we can ensure that journalists can continue to fulfil their vital role in informing and empowering the public without fear of reprisal or censorship.

भारत में अक्सर प्रेस की स्वतंत्रता को लेकर चर्चा होती रहती है। भारत में प्रेस की स्वतंत्रता भारतीय संविधान के अनुच्छेद- 19 में भारतीयों को दिए गए अभिव्यक्ति की आजादी के मूल अधिकार से सुनिश्चित होती है। विश्व स्तर पर प्रेस की आजादी को सम्मान देने के लिए संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ की महासभा द्वारा 3 मई को विश्व प्रेस स्वतंत्रता दिवस घोषित किया गया, जिसे विश्व प्रेस दिवस के रूप में भी जाना जाता है। यूनेस्को द्वारा 1997 से हर साल 3 मई को विश्व प्रेस स्वतंत्रता दिवस पर गिलेरमो कानो वर्ल्ड प्रेस फ्रीडम प्राइज भी दिया जाता है। यह पुरस्कार उस व्यक्ति अथवा संस्थान को दिया जाता है जिसने प्रेस की स्वतंत्रता के लिए उल्लेखनीय कार्य किया हो।

The Metro is everywhere in Delhi! It has made our life so much easier without burning a hole in our pockets! Delhi probably would have been at a grinding halt, had the Delhi Metro not been there. If we see the engineering achievements in the last 75 years after independence, the Delhi Metro perhaps will be among the top 5 achievements. It carries 2.5 million people around the city every day. Today the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) is celebrating its 28th Foundation Day. The Delhi Metro is the lifeline of the National Capital Region where it has helped usher in a new era of rapid economic growth, enhanced living and traveling comfort, and avenues for the generation of employment. Founded on 3rd May, 1995 as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC), the elaborate labyrinth of Delhi Metro started its operation on 25th December, 2002 between the Shahdara and Tis Hazari corridor, dubbed as the Red Line.

“With 12 lines and 288 stations spread over 393 kilometers, the Delhi Metro is amongst the longest and most intensive metro systems in the world. The DMRC is a unique collaboration between the Central government and the Delhi government. Partly underground and partly elevated, the metro network has crossed the boundaries of Delhi to reach NOIDA and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, and Gurgaon, Faridabad, Bahadurgarh, and Ballabhgarh in Haryana. Delhi Metro caters to over 60 lakh commuters daily and reached an all-time high on 13th February this year when over 71 lakh commuters availed its service. Apart from its superior set-up, the Delhi Metro is also world-renowned for its cleanliness and eco-friendly practices. The metro network is bound to expand its reach after two additional corridors of Delhi Metro’s Phase 4 were announced this year. The two lines will cover over 20 kilometers long areas in the national capital. The Inderlok – Indraprastha corridor will be an extension of the Green Line and will provide interchange with the Red, Yellow, Airport Line, Magenta, Violet, and Blue Lines, while the Lajpat Nagar – Saket G Block corridor will connect the Silver, Magenta, Pink and Violet Lines. उत्तराखंड में आगामी 10 मई से चारधाम यात्रा शुरू होने जा रही है। इस वर्ष केदारनाथ, गंगोत्री और यमुनोत्री धाम के कपाट 10 मई और बदरीनाथ धाम के कपाट 12 मई को श्रद्धालुओं के दर्शनार्थ खोल दिए जाएंगे। यात्रा को लेकर शासन, प्रशासन और मंदिर समिति ने तैयारियां शुरू कर दी हैं। यात्रा की तैयारियों से जुड़ी अधिक जानकारी के लिए चलते हैं हमारी राज्य संवाददाता साक्षी सिंह के पास “उत्तराखंड में चारधाम यात्रा की तैयारियां जोरों पर है।

सरकार और प्रशासन ने इस बार यात्रा को सरल और सुगम बनाने के लिए अभिनव प्रयास किये हैं। यात्रा के दौरान श्रद्धालुओं को आसानी से दर्शन का अवसर मिल सके, इसके लिए ऑनलाइन पंजीकरण अनिवार्य किया गया है।

15 अप्रैल से अब तक 18 लाख से अधिक तीर्थयात्री पंजीकरण करवा चुके हैं। यात्रा पर आने वाले भक्तों के लिए हेली सेवाओं की बुकिंग भी उपलब्ध कराई गई है।

सरकार ने पहली बार भक्तों को बेहतर दर्शन उपलब्ध कराने के उद्देश्य से पहले 15 दिनों में वीआईपी दर्शन पर रोक लगाई है।

साथ ही सरकार ने चारधाम यात्रा पर आने वाले श्रद्धालुओं के लिए 11 भाषाओं में स्वास्थ्य दिशानिर्देश जारी किए हैं।

इस बीच, बदरीनाथ और केदारनाथ धाम में चल रहे निर्माण कार्यों का मुख्य सचिव राधा रतूड़ी ने निरीक्षण किया। उन्होंने बरसात के मौसम में भूस्खलन के कारण यात्रा मार्ग के अवरूद्ध होने की स्थिति में वैकल्पिक मार्गों को खुला रखने के निर्देश दिए।

यात्रा के दौरान प्राकृतिक आपदाओं के घटित होने पर त्वरित राहत और बचाव कार्याे को अमल में लाने के लिए यात्रा से जुड़े जिलों में कल मॉक ड्रिल का आयोजन भी किया गया। उधर, चमोली जिले में भारतीय सेना ने हेमकुण्ड साहिब पैदल मार्ग से बर्फ हटाकर आवाजाही सुचारू कर दी है।

इसके साथ ही सेना ने यात्रा मार्ग के संवेदनशील हिस्सों का सुधारीकरण और घोड़े-खच्चरों के मार्ग से बर्फ हटाने का काम भी शुरू कर दिया है। परिक्रमा के लिए आकाशवाणी देहरादून से साक्षी सिंह”

In Sikkim, the Steering Committee of the Aspirational Block Programme convened a meeting for implementation in Chongrang Block under Gyalshing District. More from our Gangtok correspondent Dilli Ram Dulal;

“Mr. M Bharani Kumaar, District Collector of Gyalshing, chaired a meeting with the Steering Committee of the Aspirational Block Programme for Chongrang Block in Gyalshing district at the Conference Hall of the District Administrative Centre, Gyalshing, yesterday. Key performance indicators pertaining to the sectors of Health, Education, Agriculture & Allied Services, Basic Infrastructure, and Social Development in Chongrang Block were meticulously presented and discussed through a PowerPoint presentation during the meeting. Mr. Karma Chogyal Bhutia, the Aspirational Block Fellow for Chongrang Block, shared relevant data from Niti Aayog aimed at achieving 100% implementation within the stipulated time for the Block. The meeting was attended by Mr. Surat Kumar Gurung, ADC Dev., Gyalshing; Ms. Tirsang Tamang, SDM Gyalshing; Mr. Bikash Pradhan, Director-Cum-CMO Gyalshing; Mr. Karma Sherpa; and other officials. In a bid to take strict action on online gambling, the Tamilnadu Government has requested the public to share information about illegal online gambling activities or offer suggestions on regulation of online games. Anyone can post their views on the available website. More from our Chennai Correspondent Joy;

“Illegal online gaming is one of the addictions which has been a scourge to the newage youngsters and the middle aged. There has been a continuous cry to stop the frivolous advertisements which entices the users of the internet and they are being caught in the oblivion. The Government has framed a set of rules to prohibit financial institutions and payment gateways from engaging in transactions towards online gambling or online games of chance. No person shall make or cause to make any advertisement in any media which directly or indirectly promotes or induces any person to indulge in online gambling with money or other stakes. The Act also specifies a penalty of imprisonment which may extend to one year on the penalty amount which may extend upto Rs. 5 lakh or both for the persons and companies indulging in such advertisement. If the offence is repeated, they are liable for one to three years of jail and a penalty amount of Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 lakh. The State has asked the citizens to post their views on www.tnonlinegamingauthority.com or send email to tnoga@tn.gov.in. People of all ages are becoming a prey to the addiction which begins as a pastime and grows to control and draws them to a black hole of unimaginable financial debts. S JOY AKASHWAVNI NEWS CHENNAI.”

First lets go to Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar which will go to polls in the third phase of parliamentary elections on 7th of May along with four other constituencies of Supaul, Araria, Jhanjharpur and Khagaria.

लोकसभा चुनाव में राज्‍यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों के प्रमुख निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों की प्रोफाइल श्रृंखला में आज हम बिहार के मधेपुरा लोकसभा सीट की जानकारी दे रहे हैं।

“6 विधानसभा क्षेत्र वाले मधेपुरा संसदीय सीट पर मौजूदा राजनीतिक समीकरण देखें तो मधेपुरा को छोड़कर आलमनगर, बिहारीगंज, सोनबरसा, सहरसा और महिसि की विधानसभा सीटों पर अभी एनडीए का कब्जा है। 6 में से चार सीटों पर जदयू जबकि एक – एक सीट पर राष्ट्रीय जनता दल और भाजपा के विधायक हैं। मधेपुरा सीट की पहचान जाने – माने समाजवादी नेता बीपी मंडल से भी होती है जिन्होंने देश को सरकारी नौकरियों में अन्य पिछड़ा वर्ग को आरक्षण के लिए फार्मूला दिया। मधेपुरा सीट के अस्तित्व में आने के बाद 9 बार इस सीट पर जनता दल नामधारी दलों का ही कब्जा रहा है। 2019 के लोकसभा चुनाव में बिहार के पूर्व मंत्री दिनेश चंद्र यादव ने राष्ट्रीय जनता दल के शरद यादव को पराजित किया था। जदयू उन्हें इस बार फिर से दिनेश चंद्र यादव को चुनावी मैदान में उतारा है। उनके खिलाफ रजत ने डॉक्टर कुमार चंद्रदीप को मौका दिया है जो पहली बार चुनाव लड़ रहे हैं। मधेपुरा की गिनती बिहार के सबसे अधिक पिछड़े क्षेत्रों में होती है। बेरोजगारी और पलायन इस क्षेत्र के प्रमुख मुद्दे हैं। धर्मेंद्र कुमार राय आकाशवाणी समाचार पटना।”

After Madhepura we are now moving to HAVERI LOK SABHA CONSTITUENCY in KARNATAKA.

Haveri in Karnataka is famous for its cardamom garlands and Byadagi red chillies. Kanakadasa, the great saint of the Bhakti movement was born in Bada, a place 25 kms away from Haveri town. The Haveri Lok Sabha constituency was created in 2008 as part of the delimitation of the Parliamentary constituencies. Polling will be held on May 7th in this constituency. More from our Correspondent..

“The Haveri Lok Sabha constituency was formed after adding five Assembly seats of Haveri district and three constituencies of Gadag district. There are 17,70,577 voters registered in the constituency and among them 49,180 are young first time voters and 25,336 are voters with disabilities. There are 1982 polling booths set up for the Phase III May 7th election. In this election former Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai is the BJP candidate and Anandswamy Gaddadevaramath is the Congress candidate. There are 14 candidates in fray including five Independents. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Shivakumar Udasi from BJP had defeated the Congress candidate D R Patil with a margin of 1,40,882 votes. In 2014 the voter turnout in the constituency was 71.62 percent and in 2019 it was 74.21 percent. During the Assembly election held last year, seven seats forming part of Haveri Lok Sabha seats were won by Congress and just one was won by BJP. Hence there is a keen contest seen in this election. और अब समय है उन हस्तियों को याद करने का, जिनकी आज है पुण्‍यतिथि या जन्मदिवस।

इस क्रम में सबसे पहले बात भारत के तीसरे राष्‍ट्रपति, भारत रत्‍न डॉ. जाकिर हुसैन की, जिनकी आज पुण्‍यतिथि है। डॉ. ज़ाकिर हुसैन का राष्ट्रपति के रूप में कार्यकाल 13 मई 1967 से 3 मई 1969 तक रहा। डॉ. जाकिर हुसैन मशहूर शिक्षाविद् और आधुनिक भारत के द्रष्टा थे। वे बिहार के राज्यपाल और भारत के उपराष्ट्रपति भी रहे। 1969 में असमय देहावसान के कारण वे अपना राष्ट्रपति कार्यकाल पूरा नहीं कर सके। केवल 23 वर्ष की अवस्था में डॉ. ज़ाकिर हुसैन ‘जामिया मिलिया इस्लामिया विश्वविद्यालय’ की स्थापना दल के सदस्य बने। वे अर्थशास्त्र में पी.एच.डी की डिग्री के लिए जर्मनी के बर्लिन विश्वविद्यालय गए और लौट कर जामिया के उप कुलपति के पद पर आसीन हुए। डॉ. ज़ाकिर हुसैन को पद्म विभूषण और भारत रत्न से सम्‍मानित किया गया।

Alummoodan (15 March 1933 – 3 May 1992) was an Indian actor who worked in Malayalam films. He had acted in more than 100 films and mainly did comedy roles. He died on 3 May 1992 due to a heart attack. His death occurred during the shooting of a film named Adwaitham, directed by Priyadarshan and starring Mohanlal in the lead role. He portrayed the role of a minister in Adwaitham, and his last words were the film dialogue ‘Swami enne rakshikkanam’ (Swami, please save me), which he told to Mohanlal, portraying the role of a saint. He died on the spot.

और अब बात अपने समय की जानी-मानी अभिनेत्री नर्गिस की, जिनका वास्तविक नाम फ़ातिमा रशीद था। वे हिन्दी सिनेमा की महान् अभिनेत्रियों में से एक मानी जाती है। सिर्फ छह साल की उम्र में नर्गिस ने फ़िल्म ‘तलाशे हक़ से अभिनय की शुरुआत की थी।नर्गिस हिंदी सिनेमा की महानतम अभिनेत्रियों में से एक थीं, जिन्होंने लगभग 2 दशक लंबे फ़िल्मी सफर में दर्ज़नों यादगार एवं संवदेनशील भूमिकाएँ की और अपने सहज अभिनय से दर्शकों का मनोरंजन किया।

Nargis starred in Mehboob Khan’s Oscar-nominated epic drama Mother India (1957), the highest-grossing film in India at that point of time, for which she won Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She would appear infrequently in films during the 1960s. Some of her films of this period include the drama Raat Aur Din (1967), for which she received the inaugural National Film Award for Best Actress.
