Friends, Manipur is a State where many different tribes having different religions are living together. Therefore, hardly a month passes without a festival or two. The Rath Yatra festival or locally known ‘Kaang Chingba’ is one of the biggest festivals of Manipur celebrated by the Meetei community who follow Vaishnavism. This annual festival was held yesterday in the State and a large number of devotees took part in the festival. More from our Imphal Correspondent, JJ Thokchom.
“The origin and theme of the Rath Yatra festival celebrated in Manipur are adapted from the Rath Yatra festival held at Puri in Odisha. The festival has been celebrated in Manipur at different places from time immemorial. However, the main Rath Yatra festival is being held in Imphal at Shri Shri Govindaji Temple where a large number of worshippers gather to offer prayer to Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra. Due to the ongoing crisis in the State, the festival was not celebrated last year. However, the Shri Shri Govindaji Temple Board decided to celebrate the festival this year and it was celebrated yesterday in Imphal.
Despite the prevailing instability in Manipur, worshippers from various places gather at Shri Shri Govindaji Temple from early morning yesterday offering seasonal fruits and vegetables to the gods. The Rath Yatra commenced in the afternoon with tight security arrangements. Speaking to Akashvani News Parikrama, a devotee said that she felt happy to participate in the festival which was not celebrated last year. She said:
Conclusion: This year, the festival was celebrated amidst the controversy as various sections of the State appealed to people to abstain from celebrating the Rath Yatra festival considering the ongoing ethnic violence in the State. Apart from Shri Shri Govindaji Temple, other main temples of the State decided to skip Rath Yatra festival this year. JJ Thokchom, Parikrama Imphal.”

“अहमदाबाद नगर निगम एक अनोखे प्रयास के तहत वर्षा जल संचयन के लिए शहर में पारंपरिक कुओं का निर्माण कर रहा है। इन कुओं को ‘खंभती कुवा’ के नाम से जाना जाता है। पायलट प्रोजेक्ट के तौर पर शहर में 50 स्थानों पर कुओं का निर्माण किया जा रहा है। अहमदाबाद नगर निगम के इस प्रयास के बारे में बात करते हुए एएमसी के जल आपूर्ति और सीवरेज समिति, के अध्यक्ष श्री दीपक बोगरिया ने कहा की इस पहल से अहमदाबाद शहर में भूमिगत जल स्तर बढ़ेगा और लोगों को स्वच्छ पेयजल उपलब्ध कराया जाएगा।

In Uttar Pradesh, more than 200 villages of 6 districts, mostly in tarai region are affected from flood. Schools and colleges in the flood affected areas are closed today. Teams of NDRF, SDRF and flood battalion of PAC have been deployed for relief and rescue operation in the flood affected areas. Air force has been engaged to rescue stranded people at Pilibhit. “Many villages in Pilibhit, Lakhimpur, Kushinagar, Balrampur, Shravasti and Gonda districts have been affected by floods due to widespread rainfall in river catchment areas and the release of dam water. More than 44000 people are affected in shravasti while a population of around 30000 people have been affected in Lakhimpur district due to flood fury. Release of water from dams in Uttarakhand and has worsened the situation and all rivers flowing in the tarai region are in spate. Apart from running the rescue operation administration has established floid posts and running the community kitchens to help the people. Many villages are marooned and rail and road traffic has been affected due to flood. Metrological department has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in the eastern part of the state in the next 24 hours.”

“वाल्मिकी नगर गंडक बैराज और बीरपुर कोशी बैराज से भारी मात्रा में पानी छोड़े जाने के कारण पश्चिमी चंपारण, पूर्वी चंपारण, गोपालगंज और सुपौल जिले के कई हिस्सों में बाढ जैसी स्थिति है। बघा स्थित वाल्मिकी नगर टाइगर रिजर्व में भी बाढ़ का पानी प्रवेश कर गया है। निचले इलाके में बाढ़ के कारण बड़ी संख्या में लोगों को सुरक्षित स्थानों पर पलायन करना पड़ा है। मुख्यमंत्री नीतीश कुमार ने गंडक और अन्य नदियों से बाढ़ से प्रभावित इलाकों का हवाई सर्वेक्षण किया। उन्होंने बाढ़ प्रभावित लोगों को हर संभव राहत उपलब्ध कराने के निद्रेश दिए हैं।”

Guru Dutt was born as Vasant Kumar Shiv Shankar Padukone in Bangalore but soon his parents shifted to Calcutta where the Guru dutt was considered auspicious at the time in Bengal and hence the name was picked up by him and that’s how the influence of Bengal lingered upon him.
Guru Ban Educated in Calcutta (now Kolkata), Dutt was trained at Uday Shankar’s dance academy in Almora and then earned a living as a telephone operator. Later he shifted to Pune and joined the Prabhat Studio, where he served first as an actor and then as a choreographer. The first feature film he directed, Baazi (1951).
The next year Dutt made another successful film, Jaal (1952; “The Net”), with the same stars. He then set up his own production house to make Baaz (1953; “The Hawk”). Although he worked in a variety of genres during his brief but brilliant career, melodrama was the style that best showcased his talents.
As it is said Guru dutt never wanted to be an actor and his most famous role in the classic film Pyaasa …came to him by accident.
