A staggering 113 countries worldwide have never had a woman serve as Head of State or Government and only 26 countries are led by a woman as of today. As of 1 January 2024, only 23 per cent of Ministerial positions are held by women and in 141 countries women make up less than a third of Cabinet ministers. Seven countries have no women represented in their Cabinets at all.
आज हम वरिष्ठ राजनयिक पदों पर महिलाओं के लगातार कम प्रतिनिधित्व की ओर ध्यान आकर्षित कर रहे हैं, कूटनीति में महिलाओं के सामने आने वाली चुनौतियों को इंगित कर रहे हैं और उन बाधाओं पर चर्चा कर रहे हैं जिन्हें अभी भी दूर करने की आवश्यकता है।
Today we highlight that there are still structural issues that impede the promotion of women to senior roles within their ministries of foreign affairs. At the same time, we bring to awareness the less tangible but equally harmful informal rules and cultural dynamics that operate under deeply rooted societal legacies of gender inequalities to prevent equally qualified women candidates from reaching top positions in diplomacy to this very day.
आज की जटिल सामाजिक चुनौतियाँ – जलवायु परिवर्तन से लेकर महामारी, मानवाधिकारों के उल्लंघन, शांति बनाए रखने, मुद्रास्फीति और आर्थिक अनिश्चितता तक – का समाधान तब तक नहीं किया जा सकता जब तक कि महिला नेताओं को समान रूप से प्रतिनिधित्व नहीं दिया जाता और लैंगिक समानता के सिद्धांतों को एकीकृत नहीं किया जाता।

Advocating for increased representation of women in key decision-making positions will greatly shape and implement multilateral agendas. Women have participated in diplomacy for centuries, yet their contributions have often been overlooked. Between 1992 and 2019, women represented 13 per cent of negotiators, 6 per cent of mediators and 6 per cent of signatories in peace processes worldwide.

In Ladakh , Sindhu Darshan Festival is being celebrated for three days since yesterday. The inaugural ceremony of the festival was held today in which Lieutenant Governor Dr B D Mishra was the chief guest.
“Sindhu Darshan Festival is one of the festivals in Ladakh which draws a huge number of tourists from different parts of the country. It is also known as the celebration of cultural diversity of India as showcase of cultural heritage of different parts of the country are major features of the Sindhu Darshan Festival. The festival started in 1997 by then Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani in honour of Indus River as it gave name to India and to showcase the Country’s longest river as a symbol of communal harmony and unity of India. The inaugural ceremony of this year festival has witnessed different events. Spiritual leader of Buddhist Chetsang Rinpoche conducted Bhumi Puja for the upcoming 87 feet Statue of Lord Buddha on the bank of Indus River at Sindhu Ghat and LG Dr B D Mishra laid the foundation stone on it. “गढ़चिरोली पुलिस ने नक्सलवाद की कमर तोड़ दी है वही दूसरी ओर सरकार की विभिन्न योजनाएं जमीनी स्तर तक पहुंच रही है. यह मानव विकास का सर्वोत्तम प्रयास है, ऐसा मुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने कहा. उन्होंने बताया की -यह एक बहुत बड़ी सफलता पुलिस को सरकार को माओवाद के खिलाफ मिली है क्योंकि गढ़चिरौली में मौवाद की रीड की हड्डी जिसको माना जाता था ऐसे गिरधर और उनकी पत्नी यह दोनों माओवादियों ने आज मेरे समक्ष आत्मसमर्पण किया है। गिरधर के ऊपर 25 लाख का इनाम था और उनकी पत्नी के ऊपर 16 लाख का इनाम था और पूरी तरीके से गडचिरोली के माओवादी गतिविधियों के प्रमुख के रूप में उनको देखा जाता था/ एक बड़ा लंबा अरसा उन्होंने महोबा में यहां गुजारा है और मैं ऐसा मानता हूं कि उनके आत्मसमर्पण के कारण महोबा की रीड की हड्डी को तोड़ने का काम हमारी पुलिस ने बहुत सफलता के साथ किया है आज गढ़चिरौली में हम देख सकते हैं c60 जो हमारी है यह स्थिति निर्माण की है कि माओवादियों को या तो आत्मसमर्पण करना पड़ेगा या तो परिणाम को भुगतना पड़ेगा और पिछले 4 सालों में एक भी व्यक्ति गडचिरोली से माओवादी कार्रवाई में शामिल नहीं हुआ है /अब उनकी कोई भर्ती यहां पर नहीं होती है से केवल पुलिसिंग नहीं बल्कि सोशल आउटरेज भेजो सरकार कर रही है योजनाओं को सदु क्षेत्र में ले जाने का काम हमारे पुलिस के माध्यम से हुआ है और हमने भी शासन के दौर तौर पर कढ़चिरौली जिला जिसे महाराष्ट्र का अंतिम छोर माना जाता है और विकसित माना जाता था हमने नजरिया बदला है हमने कहा है कि वह अंतिम छोर नहीं है यह महाराष्ट्र का पहला जिला है महाराष्ट्र की शुरुआत यहां से होती है और बहुत बड़े पैमाने पर हमने यहां पर बदलाव लाने की कोशिश की है /रास्ते हो पुलिया हो कम्युनिकेशन हो इंडस्ट्री हो यह सारी चीज हम यहां करने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं आत्मसमर्पित नक्सली और नक्सलियों के परिवारों के साथ संवाद कार्यक्रम के दौरान पुलिस प्रशासन की ओर से सरकार की विविध योजनाओं के तहत सामग्रियों का वितरण उपमुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फडणवीस ने किया. इसमें समर्पित महिलाओं को उद्यमी बनाने के लिए सिलाई मशीन बांटी गई तथा नक्सली परिवारों के लिए कृषि सामग्री, स्प्रे पंप, धान बीज बांटा गया. कार्यक्रम में आत्मसमर्पण करनेवाले नक्सली दंपति नांगसू मनकू तुमरेट्टी उर्फ गिरिधर, उसकी पत्नी संगीता उर्फ ललिता उसेंडी को पुनर्वास के लिए 25 लाख की सहायता दी गई. परिक्रमा के लिए आकाशवाणी नागपुर से धनंजय वानखेड़े के साथ में हेमांगी कुलकर्णी”

The country just celebrated International Yoga Day. Yoga has been the integral part of Indian culture and heritage. During the last ten years the popularity of Yog has reached to International stage but in Gujarat, the Yoga has been popular since ages. Gujarat was the first state to establish a dedicated Yoga University.
‘Yog has been our legacy but not all understand what Yoga is. Talking to Akashvani, the Head of Department of the first Yoga University of Gujarat Lakulish University, S Nagarajan said Yoga is beyond exercise. He said Yoga has proved effective in curing physical as well as mental health concerns.
He said the youths of the country should not only adopt Yoga for self development but also contribute in popularising Yoga. He said Yoga can be a good career choice for the youths in today’s times.

Indian benchmark indices ended higher in a volatile session. After a weak start, the market saw a recovery in the initial hours and turned positive in the first half. At close, the 30-stock index, Sensex was up 131 points or 0.17 percent at 77,341, and the Nifty gained 37 points or 0.16 percent at 23,538. The BSE midcap and Smallcap indices added 0.3 percent each. In the forex market, the rupee appreciated 7 paise to trade at 83 rupees and 46 paisa against the US dollar today. And…. in intra-day trade, Brent crude was trading at 85 dollars and 47 cents per barrel.

अब समय है उन हस्तियों को याद करने का, जिनका आज है जन्म दिवस या जिन्होंने आज के दिन इस दुनिया को अलविदा कहा।
इस क्रम में सबसे पहले याद करेंगे पंडित श्रद्धाराम शर्मा को। आज उनकी पुण्यतिथि है। वे एक प्रसिद्ध ज्योतिषी थे, किन्तु एक ज्योतिषी के रूप में उन्हें वह प्रसिद्धि नहीं मिली, जो इनके द्वारा लिखी गई अमर आरती “ओम जय जगदीश हरे” के कारण मिली। सम्पूर्ण भारत में पंडित श्रद्धाराम शर्मा द्वारा लिखित ‘ओम जय जगदीश हरे’ की आरती गाई जाती है। श्रद्धाराम शर्मा जी ने इस आरती की रचना 1870 ई. में की थी। पंडित जी सनातन धर्म प्रचारक, ज्योतिषी, स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी और संगीतज्ञ होने के साथ-साथ हिन्दी और पंजाबी के प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार भी थे। अपनी विलक्षण प्रतिभा और ओजस्वी वाक्पटुता के बल पर उन्होंने पंजाब में नवीन सामाजिक चेतना एवं धार्मिक उत्साह जगाया था, जिससे आगे चलकर आर्य समाज के लिये पहले से निर्मित एक उर्वर भूमि मिली। उनकी गिनती उन्नीसवीं शताब्दी के श्रेष्ठ साहित्यकारों में होती थी। अपनी विलक्षण प्रतिभा और ओजस्वी वक्तृता के बल पर उन्होंने पंजाब में नवीन सामाजिक चेतना एवं धार्मिक उत्साह जगाया, जिससे आगे चलकर आर्य समाज के लिये पहले से निर्मित उर्वर भूमि मिली। उनका लिखा उपन्यास ‘भाग्यवती’ हिन्दी के आरंभिक उपन्यासों में गिना जाता है। पं. श्रद्धाराम शर्मा गुरुमुखी और पंजाबी के अच्छे जानकार थे और उन्होंने अपनी पहली पुस्तक गुरुमुखी मे ही लिखी थी; परंतु वे मानते थे कि हिन्दी के माध्यम से इस देश के ज़्यादा से ज़्यादा लोगों तक अपनी बात पहुंचाई जा सकती है। उन्होंने अपने साहित्य और व्याख्यानों से सामाजिक कुरीतियों और अंधविश्वासों के ख़िलाफ़ जबर्दस्त माहौल बनाया था। उनकी प्रमुख रचनाएँ हैं- ‘सत्य धर्म मुक्तावली’, ‘शातोपदेश’, ‘सीखन दे राज दी विथिया’, ‘पंजाबी बातचीत’, ‘भाग्यवती’, ‘सत्यामृत प्रवाह’ आदि।

Today, we are also remembering another musical maestro, M.S. vishwanathan, on his birth anniversary. An Indian music director, singer and actor, he predominantly worked in Tamil film industry. Popularly known as “Mellisai Mannar” (transl. King of Melody), he composed songs for more than 800 Indian films and various albums, across languages, primarily in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films. He has also acted and sung in a few Tamil films.But the beginning of his glorious life, was anything but happy. M. S. Viswanathanhails from a Pallakad family. His father died when MSV was four years old, and his mother decided to kill him, his sister and herself as an escape from abject poverty and lack of support. He was saved at the last minute by his grandfather. His grandfather Krishnan Nair was a warden at the central jail of Kannur. After death of his father, his family moved from Palakkad to Kannur to stay with his jailor uncle. As a child, he sold refreshments in a movie theatre without any pay, so he could listen to the music in the films. He had a part in the film Kannagi produced by Jupiter Pictures. He would often play truant from school and stand outside the house of Neelakanta Bhagavathar, a local music teacher, and listen to his teaching other students. He learnt to play the harmonium, and Neelakanta Bhagavathar, who heard him play and sing on a Vijayadasami Day, was impressed and organised a three-hour concert at the Kannur town hall. And from there, he found his footing in music. Although he wanted to become an actor, he wasn’t very successful and realised, his true passion was for music. He was discovered by MG Ramachandran and his musical journey began with Panam, a 1952 film. He also did playback singing, including 500 songs composed by himself and over 200 songs composed by music directors. It is impossible to choose one song to justify this musical genus, but here is the song “Adhisaya Raagam” from the film, ‘Apoorva Raagangal’.

पण्डित ओंकारनाथ ठाकुर (जयंती)
आज पण्डित ओंकारनाथ ठाकुर की जयंती है। उनका जितना प्रभावशाली व्यक्तित्व था उतना ही असरदार उनका संगीत भी था। एक बार महात्मा गाँधी ने उनका गायन सुन कर टिप्पणी की थी- “पण्डित जी अपनी मात्र एक रचना से जन-समूह को इतना प्रभावित कर सकते हैं, जितना मैं अपने अनेक भाषणों से भी नहीं कर सकता।” उन्होंने एक बार सर जगदीश चन्द्र बसु की प्रयोगशाला में पेड़-पौधों पर संगीत के स्वरों के प्रभाव विषय पर अभिनव और सफल प्रयोग किया था। जब वे सूरदास का पद- ‘मैं नहीं माखन खायो, मैया मोरी…’ गाते थे तो पूरे श्रोता समुदाय की आँखें आँसुओं से भीग जाती थीं। इस पद को गाते समय पण्डित जी साहित्य के सभी रसों से साक्षात्कार कराते थे। पण्डित ओंकारनाथ ठाकुर की कालजयी रचनाओं में एक महत्त्वपूर्ण रचना है, ‘वन्देमातरम्…’। बंकिमचन्द्र चट्टोपाध्याय की यह अमर रचना, स्वतंत्र भारत के प्रथम सूर्योदय पर पण्डित जी के स्वरों से अलंकृत होकर रेडियो से प्रसारित हुई थी। आगे चल कर ‘वन्देमातरम्…’ गीत के आरम्भिक दो अन्तरों को भारत की संविधान सभा ने राष्ट्रगीत के समकक्ष मान्यता प्रदान की थी। उन्हें संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार, संगीत मार्तंड, संगीत महामहोदय, पद्म श्री से सम्मानित किया जा चुका है|

Today, we are remembering Kavi-isai ‘Kannadasan’. An Indian philosopher, poet, film song lyricist, producer, actor, script-writer, editor and philanthropist, he is heralded as one of the greatest and most important lyricists in India. Frequently called Kaviarasu, with over 5000 lyrics, 6000 poems and 232 books, he is widely known by the Kaviarasu (King of poets) and he is also considered to be the greatest modern Tamil poet after Subramania Bharati, including novels, epics, plays, essays, his most popular being the 10-part religious book on Hinduism, Arthamulla Indhu Matham (Meaningful Hindu Religion). He won the Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel Cheraman Kathali in the year 1980 and was the first to receive the National Film Award for Best Lyrics, given in 1969 for the film Kuzhanthaikkaga. Kannadasan’s greatest contribution to Tamil culture is his songwriting. Before Kannadasan, many lyricists like Papanasam Sivan, Kambadasan, Vindhan, A. Maruthakasi, and Ku. Ma. Balasubramaniam were sought after in the Tamil music industry, but after the advent of Kannadasan, the scene changed. He quickly became the most sought-after lyricist in the industry and remained so until his death. Let us listen to this song, from the film, ‘Karnan’, which depicts the death scene of Karna, as Krishna sings on to soothe him.

अनीता देसाई (जन्मदिन)
India is a curious place that still preserves the past, religions, and its history.
No matter how modern India becomes, it is still very much an old country.
ये पंक्तियाँ हैं प्रख्यात लेखिका अनीता देसाई की – आज उनका जन्मदिन हैं। उनका नाम विश्व में अंग्रेज़ी साहित्य का एक जाना पहचाना नाम है। उपन्यासकार किरण देसाई इनकी पुत्री हैं। भारत सरकार ने अनीता देसाई को ‘पद्मश्री’ और 2014 में ‘पद्म भूषण’ से सम्मानित किया है। अनीता देसाई का पहला उपन्यास “क्राई द पीकॉक” 1963 में प्रकाशित हुआ। इसके साथ ही उन्हें ‘बुकर पुरस्कार’ के लिए तीन बार अंतिम सूची में भी चयनित किया जा चुका है। As a writer she has been shortlisted for the Booker Prize three times. She received a Sahitya Akademi Award in 1978 for her novel Fire on the Mountain, from the Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters.
