Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the nation has to move forward on the path of Atmanirbhar Bharat and goal of Developed India with the Mantra of Vocal for Local. Sharing his thought in the Mann Ki Baat programme on Akashvani today, Mr Modi said, during the festive season the countrymen should never forget about Swadeshi.

During the programme, the Prime Minister interacted with two players Rashmita Sahu from Odisha and Mohsin Ali from Srinagar who participted and won Gold medals in the event.
He said, a record number of people gathered in a stadium in Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir during its first ever day-night cricket match during the Royal Premier League. Mr Modi said, thousands of enthusiasts, especially youth, enjoying cricket at night in Pulwama which was truly a sight to behold.

Mentioning about his podcast with Lex Fridman, the Prime Minister said, German football player and coach Dietmar Beiersdorfer listened to that podcast and was impressed and inspired by life journey of young football players of Shahdol. He said, now this German coach has offered to train some players of Shahdol in an academy in Germany. Mr Modi urged football lovers to visit Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh whenever they get time and witness the sporting revolution happening there closely.

The Prime Minister said, the love for Ramayana and Indian culture is now reaching every corner of the world. He spoke about Vladivostok in Russia where a unique exhibition was held. Mr Modi said, paintings made by Russian children on different themes of Ramayana were showcased there and a competition was also organised. He said, it is heartening to see the growing awareness of Indian culture in different parts of the world.

Mr Modi said, 15th September is the birthday of India’s great engineer Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya which is celebrated as Engineers’ Day. He said, Engineers do not just create machines, they are karmayogis who turn dreams into reality.

‘FIT India Cycles on Sunday’ event was organised in Mumbai today in which Union Minister Raksha Khadse and Actor Jackie Shroff were present along with cycling enthusiasts.
As a part of the National Sports Day 2025 celebrations, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse and Actor Jackie Shroff today flagged off ‘FIT India Cycles on Sunday’ rally in Mumbai. The event was organised by the Sports Authority of India Regional Centre Mumbai at the Borivali National Park. Addressing the media, Union Minister Raksha Khadse said that the aim of the ‘FIT India Cycles on Sunday’ event is to spread awareness about fitness and benefits of cycling among people.
Speaking at the event, Actor Jackie Shroff said that everyone should follow the Fit India movement started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and dedicate half an hour every day for their fitness.

Andhra Pradesh
Aimed at strengthening urban livelihoods and promoting inclusive growth, Andhra Pradesh government has approved the establishment of Smart Street Vending Markets in seven major urban local bodies, namely, Anantapur, Kurnool, Tadepalli-Mangalagiri, Ongole, Srikakulam, Vijayawada and Kadapa. Implemented under the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) through the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM) Support to Urban Street Vendors programme—the initiative seeks to modernise and dignify street vending while ensuring orderly city management.
The Smart Street Vending markets will provide dignity to vendors, convenience to customers and improved urban orderliness. It is an inclusive governance model integrating livelihoods, sustainability and technology. The markets will consist of modular, container-based units with 40 to 200 shops in each city, equipped with Wi-Fi, cashless transaction facilities, solar-power and eco-friendly designs. Priority in allotments will be given to women, differently abled and marginalised communities. Allotments will follow a transparent process with eligibility checks, public notification, social audit and final selection through lottery. Vendors will also be trained in food safety, hygiene, marketing and entrepreneurship, and supported with access to bank credit and PM-SVANidhi loans. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 26 crore and10 lakhs for 580 shops, will be funded through Self-Help Group bank loans, MEPMA support and municipal resources. Kozhikode, Kerala
Varnapakittu’, organized by the Kerala Social Justice Department in Kozhikode, aiming at social upliftment of transgenders, was a notable event.
‘Varnapakittu’ was held in Kozhikode from August 21 to 23, to bring transgenders into the mainstream, as at present the community was an object of suspicion, ridicule and neglect.
The art festival began with a colorful procession in the city. State Higher Education Minister Dr. R. Bindu inaugurated the event. A special film festival was also organized at Kairali, Sree Theater.
There was a panel discussion focusing on the health, welfare, education, employment, skills, social justice and human rights of transgender individuals. The art festival is organized every year to promote the visibility of transgender individuals who have been ostracized from society, and to some extent, denied education and employment. ‘Varnapakittu’ has been able to increase their acceptance in the general society. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has stressed that self-reliance in defence is not merely an option, but a condition for survival and progress. He said the government believes that self-reliant India can safeguard its strategic autonomy. The Minister said this while speaking during a Defence Conclave in New Delhi yesterday.
ऑपरेशन सिंदूर की सफलता पर रक्षामंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने कहा कि यह ऑपरेशन देश की बढ़ती स्वदेशी रक्षा क्षमताओं का एक ज्वलंत उदाहरण है। उन्होंने कहा कि स्वदेशी उपकरणों का उपयोग करके पाकिस्तानी ठिकानों पर सशस्त्र बलों द्वारा किए गए सटीक हमलों ने यह प्रदर्शित किया है कि दूरदर्शिता, दीर्घकालिक तैयारी और समन्वय के बिना कोई भी मिशन सफल नहीं हो सकता। उन्होंने कहा कि ऑपरेशन सिंदूर भले ही कुछ दिनों के युद्ध और पाकिस्तान पर भारत की विजय की कहानी प्रतीत हो, लेकिन इसके पीछे वर्षों की रणनीतिक तैयारी और रक्षा तैयारियों की अहम भूमिका रही है। उन्होंने कहा कि देश की सेनाओं की कड़ी मेहनत और स्वदेशी उपकरणों पर निर्भरता ने इस ऑपरेशन को प्रभावी और निर्णायक रूप से अंजाम दिया।
Describing Sudarshan Chakra Mission as a game-changer for the country’s future security, the Minister said, the mission is aimed at providing complete aerial protection to critical locations across the country, using both defensive and offensive technologies. He underlined that Operation Sindoor has highlighted the importance of air defence in modern warfare. The Minister said, DRDO successfully tested an indigenous integrated air defence weapon system in this month, marking the first step towards realising the Prime Minister’s vision. He announced that the government has taken up the challenge of developing and manufacturing a powerful indigenous aero-engine. He said, all the country’s warships are now being built in India and the recent commissioning of stealth frigates INS Himgiri and INS Udaygiri, equipped with advanced weaponry and electronic warfare systems, reflects Indian Navy’s resolve towards Atmanirbharta.

Pranab Mukherjee (11 December 1935 – 31 August 2020) Today is the death anniversary of former president of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee.
Listeners, he was the president of India from 2012 until 2017. He was the first person from West Bengal to hold the post of President of India.
In a political career spanning five decades, he served in several ministerial portfolios prior to his election as President.
He was Finance Minister from 1982 to 1984 and then again from 2009 to 2012.
He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, in 2019.

आज पुण्यतिथि है, साहित्यकार विजयशंकर मल्ल की। उत्तर प्रदेश के आज़मगढ़ ज़िले के लखनौर गाँव से आने वाले मल्ल जी बनारस हिंदू विश्वविद्यालय में हिंदी विभाग से जुड़े रहे। उन्होंने हिंदी आलोचना की शुरुआत ‘प्रगतिवाद’ पर पुस्तक लिखकर की और भारतेन्दु युग के गद्य को “हंसमुख गद्य” कहकर एक नई पहचान दी। उनका लेखन और शोध हमेशा साहित्य की गहरी समझ और सहज व्याख्या के लिए जाना जाता है।
साहित्य अकादमी समेत कई मंचों से उन्हें सराहना मिली। 31 अगस्त 2003 को उनका निधन हुआ, लेकिन अपने विचारों और योगदानों के कारण वे आज भी हिंदी साहित्य में याद किए जाते हैं।

यह पंक्तियाँ सुनते ही मन अमृता प्रीतम की ओर खिंच जाता है। अपनी रचनाओं में उन्होंने प्रेम, पीड़ा और महिलाओं के सम्मान के लिए वह भाषा गढ़ी, जिसने उन्हें साहित्य जगत में अमर बना दिया।
31 अगस्त 1919 को गुजरांवाला में जन्मी अमृता प्रीतम, पंजाबी और हिन्दी दोनों भाषाओं की सुप्रसिद्ध कवयित्री, उपन्यासकार और निबंधकार थीं। विभाजन के दर्द को उन्होंने अपनी आत्मा से जिया और वही दर्द उनकी लेखनी से होकर कालजयी कविताओं में ढल गया। ‘पिंजर’ जैसा उपन्यास आज भी स्त्री के संघर्ष और मानवता की त्रासदी का सशक्त दस्तावेज़ माना जाता है।
A prominent figure in Punjabi literature, her work comprises over 100 books of poetry, fiction, biographies, essays, a collection of Punjabi folk songs and an autobiography that were all translated into several Indian and foreign languages.
As a novelist, her most noted work was Pinjar (“The Skeleton”, 1950), in which she created her memorable character, Puro, an epitome of violence against women, loss of humanity and ultimate surrender to existential fate; the novel was made into an award-winning film, Pinjar (2003).
Pritam’s magnum opus, the long poem Sunehade, won her the 1956 Sahitya Akademi Award, making her the first and the only woman to have been given the award for a work in Punjabi.
She received the Jnanpith Award, one of India’s highest literary awards, in 1982 for Kagaz Te Canvas (“The Paper and the Canvas”). She was awarded the Padma Shri in 1969, and the Padma Vibhushan, in 2004.

Rituparno Ghosh (31 August 1963 – 30 May 2013)
Today is the birth anniversary of director, actor, writer and lyricist Rituparno Ghosh.
who started his career as a creative artist at an advertising agency, and went on to receive recognition for his work, including the film Unishe April which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film. Having won 19 National Awards, he lifted contemporary Bengali cinema to greater heights.
Ghosh was influenced by the works of Satyajit Ray and was an avid reader of Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore’s works are frequently referenced to in his films. He also made a documentary titled Jeevan Smriti on the life of Tagore. His english film The Last Lear won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in English.
31 अगस्त 1963 को कोलकाता में जन्मे ऋतुपर्णो घोष भारतीय सिनेमा के उन निर्देशकों में गिने जाते हैं, जिन्होंने फिल्मों को सिर्फ़ मनोरंजन नहीं, बल्कि गहरी मानवीय भावनाओं का आईना बनाया। उन्होंने बांग्ला और हिंदी – दोनों ही भाषाओं में ऐसी फिल्में दीं, जो रिश्तों, प्रेम और समाज की सच्चाई को बेहद सादगी और गहराई से पेश करती हैं।

शिवाजी सावंत
आज ही के दिन महाराष्ट्र में जन्मे शिवाजी सावंत मराठी साहित्य के प्रसिद्ध उपन्यासकार थे। उन्हें सबसे ज़्यादा ख्याति उनके कालजयी उपन्यास “मृत्युंजय” से मिली, जो महाभारत के कर्ण पर आधारित है। इस उपन्यास ने उन्हें “कर्णाचा लेखक” यानी कर्ण का लेखक के नाम से मशहूर कर दिया।
