Let’s rewind to the midnight of August 14th, 1947 – when India awoke to freedom.
It was the end of nearly **200 years of British colonial rule**, and the birth of a nation committed to democracy, justice, and unity in diversity.

As the Nation celebrates its 79th Independence Day today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the Independence Day celebrations from the iconic Red Fort in Delhi and hoisted the National Flag. Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the iconic monument, Mr Modi saluted the brave soldiers of Operation Sindoor saying that the Operation is a powerful testament to the valour and precision of the country’s armed forces.

जम्मू-कश्मीर में 79वां स्वतंत्रता दिवस देशभक्ति के जोश और जुनून के साथ मनाया गया। मुख्यमंत्री उमर अब्दुल्ला ने श्रीनगर के प्रतिष्ठित बख्शी स्टेडियम में राष्ट्रीय ध्वज फहराया।
“It was for the first time in six years that an elected representative led the Independence Day celebrations in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Omar Abdullah extended warm congratulations to the people of Jammu and Kashmir while expressing deep sorrow for the victims of yesterday’s Kishtwar cloudburst tragedy in Jammu region. He assured affected families of full support and steps for their welfare. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha hoisted and saluted the National Flag at Raj Bhavan in Srinagar. Independence Day was celebrated in Tamil Nadu with national fervour and pride. Chief Minister M.K.Stalin hoisted the National Flag at Fort St. George in Chennai. Our correspondent reports that the State Government arranged the customary food feast at all big temples.
“In Chennai, flags and festoons of tri colour flew at the Government buildings and at the public places displaying national festivity. Flags were hoisted amidst the music rendition of Sare Jahan Se Acha and Vande Matharam. Events also included traditional art performances with national flag formations and RPF dog shows displaying their courage and bravery in saving victims from fire and other dangers by the Southern Railway. Cycle rallies were also part of the celebrations today where people displayed Tiranga upholding National integration. Chief Minister’s Award was given to those who contributed to the Nation’s development and for those who rendered excellent social service to the Society by the Tamilnadu Government. In Tripura, Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotic fervour. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha led the state-level celebrations at the Assam Rifles ground in Agartala.
“Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saha said new opportunities are opening for Tripura under a transparent administration. He congratulated soldiers for their role in Operation Sindoor, and reiterated Prime Minister Modi’s call for an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, urging people to support the Vocal for Local initiative and achieve self-reliance in sectors like AI, renewable energy, and biotechnology. Across the state, the day began with flag hoisting at government offices, schools, and private institutions. Various programs were organized across Maharashtra to mark the 79th Independence Day of the nation. The main state-level ceremony took place at Mantralaya in Mumbai, where Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hoisted the national flag. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis hoisted the national flag today at Mantralaya in Mumbai to mark the 79th Independence Day of India. In his address, the Chief Minister lauded the success of Operation Sindoor, stating that the Indian armed forces had destroyed terrorist establishments in Pakistan with surgical precision, thereby showcasing India’s military prowess on the global stage. He congratulated all officers and soldiers involved in the operation for their exemplary service.
Chief Minister also hoisted the national flag at his official residence, Varsha, and at the Bombay High Court.
Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan led the celebrations in Pune, where he unfurled the National Tricolor at the Council Hall.
Flag hoisting ceremonies were held at several prominent institutions across Mumbai. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani hoisted the national flag at the BMC Headquarters. Central Railway’s General Manager Dharam Veer Meena unfurled the flag at the historic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, while Vivek Kumar Gupta, General Manager of Western Railway, led the celebrations at the Western Railway Headquarters. Across the city, a host of cultural and social programs were organized to commemorate the occasion. Telangana
People of Telangana celebrated the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor and gaiety. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy hoisted the national flag at the historic Golkonda fort this morning. More from Our Correspondent:
The 79th Independence Day has been celebrated across Telangana state, while the tricolour has been hoisted high. The National Flag has been hoisted at all constitutional and educational institutions beside government offices, and offices of all political parties with much pomp. People in various localities in Hyderabad enthusiastically flew the tricolour high and recalled the sacrifices of numerous patriots who fought for our freedom.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy led the state in paying tributes to the freedom fighters at a ceremonial official programme and hoisted the national flag at the lawns Rani Mahal of the historic Golkonda fort in the state capital. The area reverberated the rich culture of Telangana with over 1500 artists of 31 art forms taking part in the cultural display at the ramparts of Golkonda.
Addressing the people of the state, the Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensure that Telangana plays a key role in the transformation of the country in the coming years. He also announced that a vision document, called ‘Telangana Raising-2047’ will be released in December aiming to transform the state into a One trillion-dollar economy by 2035 and 3 trillion-dollar economy by 2047. He said it is a resolve to make the state proud at international level. He further said as part of the vision document, a master plan for the development of the entire State is envisaged from revival of Musi River to agriculture development in rural areas with a clear vision.
Meanwhile, incessant rains could not dampen the spirit of patriotism and enthusiasm among the people especially in Mulugu and Khammam districts which witnessed continued rains in the morning. KARGIL
In Kargil, the 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit at the Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium. Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhone, hoisted the National Flag and took the salute at the ceremonial parade.
While addressing the gathering, Dr. Akhone highlighted the achievements of the Government, particularly in the apricot sector, developmental works, and sports.
An impressive march past was presented by contingents of the Police, NCC, and students from various schools, accompanied by the Police Band. The celebrations also featured a colourful cultural programme with patriotic performances and a drama by the Ranthag Theater Group. Later, the Chief Guest felicitated individuals with outstanding achievements and distributed mementoes and awards among the participants.
Likewise, Independence Day programmes were organised at the Sub-Divisions of Zanskar, Drass, Sankoo, and Shakar Chiktan, as well as at various tehsil and block headquarters, schools, and organisations across the district.
At All India Radio Kargil, Baroo, Jamuna Prasad, Assistant Engineer, hoisted the National Flag in the presence of Programme Head Amarnath Prasad, officials, their family members, and inmates of Bal Ashram. Addressing the gathering, he urged everyone to work collectively for the welfare of society while paying rich tributes to the freedom fighters and martyrs.
The National Flag was also unfurled at HPT Kurbathang, Hombatingla, AIR Drass, Tai Suru, and Padum, where employees celebrated the day with enthusiasm and patriotic spirit. For Parikarma This is Anayat Ali from Kargil UT Ladakh.

India A Women’s cricket team pulled off a stunning victory from the jaws of defeat in the 2nd ODI match against Australia A women at Brisbane.Yastika Bhatia, Radha Yadav and Tanuja Kanwer struck half-centuries. Electing to bat first, Alyssa Healy top-scored with 91 off 87 balls to guide Australia ‘A’ to 265/9 in their 50 overs.
Chasing 266, Yastika Bhatia stood up to hit 66 off 71 balls – her second successive fifty of the ongoing series. But, India ‘A’ slipped to 193/7 in the 39th over. Tanuja and Prema duo shared a gritty, counter-attacking stand of 68 runs off 62 deliveries for the eighth wicket to take India ‘A’ home with a ball to spare and adding cheerful vibes to the Independence Day celebrations. While Tanuja hit a crucial 50 off 57 balls and stood out with her behind the square shots, Prema slammed an unbeaten 32 off 33 balls to turn the game on its head, with the latter hitting the winning runs on the penultimate ball.
The third and final 50-over match will be held at the same venue on Sunday, with India ‘A’ aiming to complete a clean sweep in the one-day leg of the multi-format series.

Nirmal Kumar Bose (22 January 1901 – 15 October 1972) was an Indian anthropologist, who played a formative role in “building an Indian Tradition in Anthropology”. A humanist scholar with a range of interests, he was also a leading sociologist, urbanist, Gandhian, and educationist. Also active in the Indian freedom struggle with Mahatma Gandhi, he was imprisoned in 1931 during the Salt Satyagraha.

रामकृष्ण परमहंस, जिनका असली नाम गदाधर चटर्जी था, बचपन से ही वे आध्यात्मिक प्रवृत्ति के थे । वे घंटों समाधि की अवस्था में रहते और ईश्वर के साक्षात अनुभव के लिए तपस्या करते।
रामकृष्ण का सबसे बड़ा संदेश था कि सभी धर्म एक ही सत्य की ओर ले जाते हैं-चाहे वह भक्ति मार्ग हो, ज्ञान मार्ग हो या इस्लाम और ईसाई धर्म का मार्ग। उन्होंने अपने जीवन से यह सिद्ध किया कि धार्मिक विविधता के बावजूद सभी मार्ग अंत में एक ही लक्ष्य तक पहुंचते हैं। वे स्वामी विवेकानंद के गुरु थे, जिन्होंने उनके विचारों को पूरे विश्व में फैलाया। 15 अगस्त 1886 को उन्होंने शरीर त्याग दिया, लेकिन आज भी उनके उपदेश और जीवनकथा लोगों को आध्यात्मिकता की ओर प्रेरित करते हैं।

अजीत वाडेकर
अजीत वाडेकर भारतीय क्रिकेट इतिहास में उस कप्तान के रूप में जाने जाते हैं जिन्होंने टीम इंडिया को पहली बार विदेशी धरती पर ऐतिहासिक जीत दिलाई। 1971 में उनकी कप्तानी में भारत ने इंग्लैंड और वेस्टइंडीज जैसी दिग्गज टीमों को उनके घर में हराया-यह उपलब्धि उस समय भारतीय क्रिकेट के लिए एक सपना मानी जाती थी।
बाएं हाथ के स्टाइलिश बल्लेबाज अजीत वाडेकर की बल्लेबाजी संयम और समझदारी का उदाहरण थी। क्रिकेट से संन्यास लेने के बाद वे भारतीय टीम के कोच और मैनेजर भी रहे और 1990 के दशक में टीम को कई बड़ी जीत दिलाने में योगदान दिया। 15 अगस्त 2018 को उनका निधन हुआ, लेकिन वे हमेशा उस कप्तान के रूप में याद किए जाएंगे, जिसने भारत को आत्मविश्वास के साथ जीतना सिखाया

कैलास सांखला का जन्म 30 जनवरी 1925 को राजस्थान में हुआ और वे भारत के “वन्यजीव संरक्षण के पिता” कहे जाते हैं। उन्होंने अपना पूरा जीवन भारत के दुर्लभ और विलुप्तप्राय जीवों की रक्षा में लगा दिया। वे ‘प्रोजेक्ट टाइगर’ के पहले निदेशक रहे और भारत में बाघों की संख्या बढ़ाने के लिए प्रभावी योजनाएं लागू कीं।
सांखला ने केवल बाघ ही नहीं, बल्कि कई पक्षियों और वन्यजीवों के संरक्षण के लिए भी काम किया। उन्होंने वन्यजीवों के प्राकृतिक आवास की रक्षा, लोगों में जागरूकता और सरकार की नीतियों में बदलाव लाने के लिए कई पहलें कीं। उनके लिखे ग्रंथ आज भी संरक्षणवादियों के लिए मार्गदर्शक हैं। 15 अगस्त 1994 को उनका निधन हुआ, लेकिन उनकी सोच और कार्य भारत के हर अभयारण्य और राष्ट्रीय उद्यान में जीवित हैं।

Ustad Amir Khan (15 August 1912 – 13 February 1974) was an Indian singer and musician in the Hindustani classical tradition.
Ustad Amir Khan (1912–1974) was one of the most revered vocalists in Hindustani classical music, renowned for his deep, contemplative style of singing. Born in Indore, he was a founder of the Indore Gharana, which blended traditional khayal styles with his own unique approach. His father, Shahmir Khan, was a sarangi player and introduced Amir Khan to music at a young age.
Amir Khan was deeply influenced by the styles of Kirana and Bhendi Bazaar Gharanas but developed his distinctive approach, characterized by slow, deliberate elaboration of ragas, a meditative quality in his alaap, and minimal ornamentation. His singing emphasized depth and emotional intensity, exploring each raga with subtlety. His voice was known for its gravity, often likened to a serene and spiritual experience for listeners.

Oscar Emmanuel Peterson CC CQ OOnt (August 15, 1925 – December 23, 2007) was a Canadian jazz pianist and composer. As a virtuoso who is considered to be one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time, Peterson released more than 200 recordings, won eight Grammy Awards.

उस्ताद अमीर ख़ाँ का जन्म 15 अगस्त 1912 को इंदौर में हुआ था। वे हिंदुस्तानी शास्त्रीय संगीत के मशहूर गायक और “इंदौर घराने” के संस्थापक माने जाते हैं। बचपन से ही उन्हें संगीत का माहौल मिला-उनके पिता शाहमीर ख़ाँ सरोद और सितार के उस्ताद थे। अमीर ख़ाँ ने पिता से ही संगीत की शुरुआती तालीम ली और बाद में ख़ुद के अनोखे अंदाज़ से शास्त्रीय गायन में एक अलग पहचान बनाई।
उनका गाया हुआ राग मारवा आज भी संगीत प्रेमियों के बीच एक बेमिसाल उदाहरण माना जाता है। उन्होंने ठुमरी और भजन भी गाए, लेकिन उनकी असली पहचान गंभीर, गहन और आध्यात्मिक गायकी रही।
उन्हें संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार और पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया। उन्होंने फिल्मों में भी यादगार गायन किया-फिल्म बैजू बावरा और कोहिनूर के गीत आज भी श्रोताओं के दिल में बसे हैं।
13 फरवरी 1974 को एक सड़क दुर्घटना में उनका निधन हो गया। लेकिन उनके राग, उनका अंदाज़ और उनकी गायकी की विरासत आज भी हिंदुस्तानी शास्त्रीय संगीत की दुनिया में अमर है।

हिंदी के मशहूर व्यंग्यकार गोपाल चतुर्वेदी का जन्म 15 अगस्त 1942 को लखनऊ में हुआ। 1965 में वे भारतीय रेल लेखा सेवा में आए और कई केंद्रीय मंत्रालयों में ऊँचे पदों पर काम किया। 1993 में सेवानिवृत्त होने के बाद उन्होंने पूरी तरह साहित्य को समर्पित कर दिया।
उन्होंने अपनी रचनात्मक यात्रा कविता से शुरू की, लेकिन पहचान उन्हें व्यंग्य लेखन से मिली। उनके व्यंग्य में समाज की विसंगतियाँ, सरकारी तंत्र की कमज़ोरियाँ और आम आदमी की संवेदनाएँ बहुत सजीव रूप में सामने आती हैं। उनकी प्रसिद्ध किताबों में अफ़सर की मौत, दुम की वापसी, राम झरोखे बैठ के, सत्तापुर के नकटे और फार्म हाउस के लोग शामिल हैं।
उन्हें कई पुरस्कार मिले-जैसे यश भारती सम्मान, शरद जोशी सम्मान, सुब्रह्मण्यम भारती पुरस्कार और व्यंग्यश्री सम्मान। उनके जीवन में साहित्य, व्यंग्य और संवेदनशील मानवीय दृष्टि हमेशा साथ रही, जो आज भी उनकी रचनाओं में ज़िंदा है।

अरविंदो घोष का जन्म 15 अगस्त 1872 को कोलकाता में हुआ। बचपन से ही उनकी शिक्षा अंग्रेज़ी माध्यम में हुई और वे उच्च शिक्षा के लिए इंग्लैंड गए, विदेश में रहते हुए भी उनके मन में भारत की स्वतंत्रता का सपना पनपता रहा।
भारत लौटकर वे पहले बड़ौदा और फिर बंगाल में प्रशासनिक और शैक्षिक कार्यों से जुड़े, लेकिन जल्द ही स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन में सक्रिय हो गए। उन्होंने वंदे मातरम् और कर्मयोगिन जैसे अख़बारों के माध्यम से अंग्रेज़ी हुकूमत के खिलाफ़ अपनी आवाज़ बुलंद की। उनकी राजनीति उग्र राष्ट्रवाद की रही, लेकिन बाद में वे आध्यात्मिक मार्ग की ओर मुड़ गए।
पॉन्डिचेरी में उन्होंने आश्रम की स्थापना की और योग, ध्यान तथा मानवता के भविष्य पर गहन विचार किया। उनकी रचनाएँ-द लाइफ़ डिवाइन, सावित्री, और सिंथेसिस ऑफ योग-आज भी दार्शनिक साहित्य के महत्वपूर्ण स्तंभ मानी जाती हैं। वे आज भी स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, चिंतक और योगी के रूप में याद किए जाते हैं।

राखी गुलज़ार हिंदी सिनेमा की उन अदाकाराओं में से हैं, जिन्होंने अपनी अदाकारी और सशक्त किरदारों से दर्शकों के दिल में खास जगह बनाई। शुरुआती दौर में उन्होंने बंगाली फिल्मों में काम किया और फिर मुंबई आकर हिंदी फिल्मों में कदम रखा।

1995 की फिल्म करण अर्जुन में उनका मशहूर डायलॉग – “मेरे करण-अर्जुन आएंगे” – आज भी पॉप कल्चर का हिस्सा है और दर्शकों की यादों में जिंदा है।

वे मशहूर गीतकार और कवि गुलज़ार की पत्नी रहीं, और उनकी जोड़ी फिल्मी और साहित्यिक जगत में चर्चित रही। अपनी दमदार अदाकारी के लिए उन्होंने कई फ़िल्मफेयर अवॉर्ड्स और सम्मान प्राप्त किए।
