World Breastfeeding Week

 

World Breastfeeding Week is observed every year from August 1 to August 7. The day aims to raise awareness about breastfeeding and how it is benefits the health of both the mother and child. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breastfeeding is an essential part of providing ideal food for the healthy growth and development of infants, and it also plays a vital role in preventing illness and disease in both mother and baby.

 

क्यों मनाया जाता है ‘विश्व स्तनपान सप्ताह’?

 

‘विश्व स्तनपान सप्ताह’ मनाने के पीछे कई महत्वपूर्ण कारण हैं। इसका मुख्य उद्देश्य स्तनपान के माध्यम से बच्चों के स्वास्थ्य में सुधार लाना है, स्तनपान से संबंधित लोगों के बीच की भ्रांतियों को दूर करना है। यह सप्ताह माताओं और परिवारों को स्तनपान के बारे में सही जानकारी प्रदान करता है, ताकि वे दूध के विकल्पों (जैसे फॉर्मूला मिल्क) के भ्रामक विज्ञापनों से प्रभावित न हों।

 

इसके अलावा, यह स्वास्थ्य पेशेवरों को सही सलाह देने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करता है और सरकारों को ऐसी नीतियां बनाने के लिए प्रेरित करता है जो कामकाजी माताओं को स्तनपान जारी रखने में मदद करें, जैसे कि मैटरनिटी लीव और वर्कप्लेस पर स्तनपान के लिए सुरक्षित स्थान। इस सप्ताह के माध्यम से हम समाज में एक ऐसी सोच विकसित करना चाहते हैं, जहाँ स्तनपान एक सामान्य और सम्मानित कार्य माना जाए।

 

There was a time when breastfeeding in a public place was considered a stigma but now we are seeing that many government and private offices have a sepreate space for mothers to feed their babies which is a good thing.

 

The Supreme Court has also issued a strong ruling stating that breastfeeding in public or at the workplace should not be viewed in a negative light. The court has also instructed that proper infrastructure facilities should be put in place for women to breastfeed their babies without any challenge.

 

In a much-celebrated judgement, the Supreme Court has stated that breastfeeding is a basic human right to both mother and child. Moreso, there should be no discrimination attached to it.

 इस वर्ष विश्व स्तनपान सप्ताह का थीम है- स्तनपान को प्राथमिकता दें: स्थायी सहायता प्रणालियों का निर्माण करें

 

इस थीम के माध्यम से यह बताने की कोशिश की जा रही है कि स्तनपान को सफल बनाने के लिए केवल व्यक्तिगत प्रयासों से काम नहीं चलेगा, बल्कि एक मां को सभी से सहायता और प्राथमिकता मिलनी चाहिए, चाहे वह उसका परिवार हो, स्वास्थ्य सेवा केंद्र हों, कार्यस्थल हो या हमारा समुदाय, हमारा समाज ही क्यों न हो।

 

‘प्राथमिकता’ देने का अर्थ है कि समाज के सभी स्तरों पर स्तनपान को एक सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य प्राथमिकता के रूप में देखा जाए। वहीं, ‘स्थायी सहायता प्रणालियों का निर्माण’ करना इस बात पर जोर देता है कि ऐसी प्रणालियां बनाई जाएं जो केवल कुछ समय के लिए नहीं, बल्कि हमेशा उपलब्ध रहें, ताकि हर मां को जरूरत पड़ने पर सही समय पर मदद मिल सके

 

Why has Breastfeeding Reduced?

 

Today, a lot of mothers feed their babies formula over breastmilk. While this is a choice for a lot of them, other choose this because they can’t produce enough breast milk.

 

Growing urbanization, changing lifestyle, working women, availability of formula milk and dried baby food, prepared baby food, and other baby foods, and the convenience of use of commercial baby food – all these have contributed to the decline in breastfeeding, especially in the developed world. Formula milk, which is mainly for infants, has the highest share of the baby food market, and is the biggest seller in the Asia-Pacific region, which has more than 50% share of the global milk-product market.

 

विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन के मुताबिक, स्तनपान माताओं और बच्चों, दोनो के लिए बेहतर स्वास्थ्य को बढ़ावा देता है। स्तनपान को बढ़ावा देकर हर साल 8 लाख से अधिक जानें बचाई जा सकती है। क्योंकि अगर बच्चों को पर्याप्त मात्रा में मां का दूध ना मिले तो उनकी जान को खतरा होता है। विशेष रूप से 6 महीने से कम उम्र के बच्चों को। न सिर्फ बच्चों बल्कि माताओं के लिए भी स्तनपान कराना बेहद जरूरी है, स्तनपान कराने से माताओं को स्तन कैंसर, डिम्बग्रंथि के कैंसर, टाइप 2 डायबिटीज और हृदय रोगों के होने की संभावना कम हो जाती है। यह अनुमान लगाया गया है कि स्तनपान कराने से स्तन कैंसर के कारण हर साल होने वाली 20 हजार माताओं की जानें बचाई सकती है।

मध्यप्रदेश के उज्जैन में आज सावन माह के  आखिरी सोमवार के अवसर पर शाम चार बजे से ज्योतिर्लिंग भगवान महाकालेश्‍वर की राजसी सवारी निकाली जा रही है । इसके साथ ही ओंकारेश्वर और मंदसौर के पशुपतिनाथ की सवारी भी निकाली जाएगी। 

 

“आस्था और भक्ति का सैलाब आज उज्जैन की सड़कों पर बाबा महाकाल के दर्शन के लिए उमड़ रहा है। जहां भगवान महाकाल की चौथी सवारी आज निकाली रही है। महाकालेश्वर भगवान आज श्री चंद्रमौलेश्वर के रूप में पालकी में, हाथी पर श्री मनमहेश के रूप में, गरूड़ रथ पर श्री शिव-तांडव रूप में और नंदी पर विराजमान होकर श्री उमा-महेश स्वरूप में नगर का भ्रमण कर रहे हैं। प्राचीन काल से माना जाता है कि इस सवारी में अंवतिकानाथ के रूप में बाबा महाकाल अपनी प्रजा का हाल जानने के लिए निकलते हैं। आज की सवारी की थीम मध्य प्रदेश के प्रमुख पर्यटन स्थलों पर आधारित है। इनमें वन्यजीव , धार्मिक, ऐतिहासिक और ग्रामीण पर्यटन को दर्शाती झाकियों को सवारी में शामिल किया गया है। इसके साथ ही जनजातीय कलाकारों के दल भी अपनी प्रस्तुतियां दे रहे हैं। इसके साथ ही  खंडवा जिले के ओंकारेश्वर में ज्योतिर्लिंग भगवान ओंकारेश्वर और ममलेश्वर  की सवारी निकाली जा रही । मंदसौर में भगवान पशुपतिनाथ की राजसी सवारी भी आज निकेलेगी। प्रदेश के अन्य शिवमंदिरों में आज सावन के आखिरी सोमवार श्रद्दालुओं की भारी भीड़ सुबह से दर्शनों के लिए आ रही है। इसके देखते हुए सभी जगह प्रशासन ने विशेष प्रबंध किए हैं। परिक्रमा के लिए आकाशवाणी समाचार भोपाल से मैं प्रशांत शर्मा”

KOHIMA

 

India celebrates National Organ Donation Day on 3rd August to commemorate the anniversary of India’s first successful deceased donor heart transplant. This year, awards were presented to honour outstanding contributions in organ donation and transplantation across multiple categories. Manipur revived Best Northeast State and award was given in during celebration of National Organ Donation Day held at New Delhi on last Sunday. More from our Imphal Correspondent JJ Thokchom.

 

“In spite of having a small state, Manipur have become forefront of organ donation and tissue transplantation among the Northeast state. The State has already adjudged as the Best Emerging State in the field. In recognition to the contribution made by Manipur, the Best Northeast State Award on Organ Donation and Transplantation was handed over to the health officials of the State by Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda on Sunday during the celebration of National Organ Donation Day at New Delhi.

 

In Manipur, the Health Department along with State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation facilitated organ and tissue procurement and distribution. According to the State Health Department, organ donation and tissue transplantation are also carried out at private hospital besides the existing government hospitals in Manipur. Around 185 kidney transplantation have been carried out successfully in the State of which 123 were female donors and 54 male donors.

 

Speaking about the importance of organ donation, Director of Manipur Health Department- Dr. Chambo Golmei said that after death, human bodies either get decomposed or reduced to ashes in accordance with rituals of the religion concerned. If one person donates organs or tissues while still alive or even after death, it will help others. 

 

Conclusion: India ranks third globally in organ transplantation and last year the country performed nearly 18 thousand nine hundred transplant which is the highest in a single year. नई शिक्षा नीति के अनुसार, गुजरात सरकार ने तकनीक और नवाचार को एकीकृत करके स्कूलों में स्मार्ट शिक्षा को गति दी है। इसी के साथ, सूरत नगर निगम माध्यमिक और उच्चतर माध्यमिक विद्यालयों में 3D, AR/VR, AI, रोबोटिक्स और ड्रोन तकनीक की स्मार्ट शिक्षा शुरू करने वाला देश का पहला नगर निगम बन गया है। आइए सुनते हैं एक रिपोर्ट..

 

“पहले चरण में, सूरत के 18 सुमन स्कूलों की स्मार्ट कक्षाओं में छात्रों को AI, ड्रोन और रोबोटिक्स तकनीक की शिक्षा मिल रही है। 12 AI लैब में 11 हज़ार से ज़्यादा छात्र मुफ़्त तकनीकी शिक्षा प्राप्त कर रहे हैं। 3D, ऑग्मेंटेड रियलिटी, वर्चुअल रियलिटी और AI अब उनकी नियमित पढ़ाई का हिस्सा बन गए हैं। सुमन स्कूलों के कक्षा 9 और 10 के छात्र अब फ्रंट-एंड डेवलपमेंट और ड्रोन एविएशन के बारे में जानते हैं। सरकारी स्कूलों के ये छात्र ड्रोन उड़ाते हैं, रोबोटिक्स लैब में प्रैक्टिकल करते हैं और AI जैसी उन्नत तकनीक सीखते हैं। सुमन हाई स्कूल नंबर 6 के आचार्य महेंद्र कुमार ने बताया कि इन स्कूलों में बच्चों को सप्ताह के हर दिन अलग-अलग लेक्चर के माध्यम से एआई, डिज़ाइन थिंकिंग और स्टेम आधारित पाठ्यक्रम पढ़ाया जाता है। इससे छात्रों को एआई तकनीक के माध्यम से उज्ज्वल करियर बनाने में काफी मदद मिलेगी। मयूर सोलंकी, समाचार विभाग, आकाशवाणी, अहमदाबाद.”

SHIMLA

 

The monsoon rains continue intermittently across most parts of Himachal Pradesh today. The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the districts of,Una, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur while, a Yellow Alert has been issued for Shimla, Bilaspur, Chamba, Kullu and Solan districts. Similar alerts orange and yellow will remain in place for several districts on August 5th as well. A Yellow Alert has also been issued for heavy rainfall across the state from August 6th to 8th.

 

“In view of heavy rainfall, all educational institutions in the Manali sub division of Kullu district have been closed today. According to the latest report from the State Emergency Operation Center, landslides and continuous rain have disrupted traffic on 309 roads across the state, including one National Highway. In Kullu district, National Highway-305 is blocked near Zhed  Khanag . Additionally, 113 power transformers and 236 drinking water supply schemes are non-operational.

 

As per the report, since the onset of this monsoon season, 184 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents across the state, while 36 people are still missing. Public infrastructure worth rupees 1,714 crore has also been damaged so far. Ritesh Kapoor, Akashvani News, Shimla.”

In Cricket, India today pulled off thrilling 6-run win in the final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at the Oval in London to level the five-match series 2-2. Hosts England were all out for 367 in their second innings on Day 5 as India began the day on the offensive with Mohammed Siraj striking twice and Prasidh Krishna bagging another wicket to put the game on a knife’s edge. Ultimately, it was Siraj who picked up the last wicket as India won the game. Siraj was the hero for Indian team with a match haul of nine wickets, including five in second innings. The hosts had resumed their second innings at 339 for 6.

 

India had scored 224 in their first innings and 396 in second innigs. England were all out for 247 in their first innings.

इब्राहिम अल्काज़ी –

 

हम याद कर रहे हैं, भारतीय रंगमंच के प्रसिद्ध निदेशक और नेशनल स्कूल ऑफ़ ड्रामा के पूर्व निदेशक इब्राहिम अल्काज़ी को। आज उनकी पुण्यतिथि है। उन्होंने नेशनल स्कूल ऑफ़ ड्रामा के साथ कई नाटकों का निर्देशन किया। इब्राहिम अल्काज़ी ने अपने जीवन काल में कलाकारों की कई पीढ़ियों को अभिनय की बारीकियां सिखाईं। इन कलाकारों में नसीरुद्दीन शाह और ओम पुरी जैसे कई बड़े और दिग्गज कलाकारों के नाम शामिल हैं।

 

रॉयल एकेडमी ऑफ ड्रामेटिक्स आर्ट से प्रशिक्षित इब्राहिम अल्काज़ी ने अपने शानदार करियर के दौरान 50 से अधिक नाटकों का मंचन किया और 1950 में बीबीसी ब्रॉडकास्टिंग अवार्ड जीता। उन्हें पद्म विभूषण (2010), पद्मभूषण (1991) और पद्मश्री (1966) से सम्मानित किया गया था। इब्राहिम अल्काज़ी द्वारा निर्देशित कुछ प्रमुख नाटकों में गिरीश कर्नाड द्वारा लिखी ‘तुगलक’, मोहन राकेश की लिखी ‘आषाढ़ का एक दिन’, धर्मवीर भारती का ‘अंधा युग’ के अलावा कई ग्रीक ट्रेजडी और शेक्सपियर की कृतियां शामिल हैं।

परशुराम मिश्रा –

 

आज ही पुण्यतिथि है भारत के प्रसिद्ध वनस्पतिशास्त्री और शिक्षाविद परशुराम मिश्रा की। वह संबलपुर विश्वविद्यालय के पहले कुलपति थे। भारत सरकार ने परशुराम मिश्रा को 1961 में पद्म श्री से सम्मानित किया था। उन्होंने कलकत्ता विश्वविद्यालय से अपनी कॉलेज की पढ़ाई पूरी की थी और लीड्स विश्वविद्यालय, यॉर्कशायर, इंग्लैंड से अपनी पीएचडी की उपाधि प्राप्त की थी। परशुराम ओडिशा से पहले ऐसे व्यक्ति थे जिन्होंने डॉक्टरेट की डिग्री हासिल की थी। वह लीड्स विश्वविद्यालय में संकाय के सदस्य भी रहे। इस अवधि के दौरान उन्होंने कई वनस्पति लेख प्रकाशित किए। शिक्षा में उन्नत अध्ययन के लिए सन 1988 में शुरू की गई एक संस्था ‘डॉ. पी. एम. इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ एडवांस्ड स्टडी इन एजुकेशन’ का नाम परशुराम मिश्रा के नाम पर रखा गया है।

Wajahat Hussain Mirza Changezi  –

 

Wajahat Hussain Mirza Changezi (Hindi: ; 20 April 1908 – 4 August 1990) was an Indian screenwriter and film director who penned the dialogues of some of the most successful films in India during the 1950s and 1960s, best known for Mughal-e-Azam (1960) and the Academy Award nominee, Mother India (1957).

 

Awards :

 

Mirza won Filmfare Best Dialogue Award twice, in 1960 for Mughal-e-Azam, and in 1961 for Ganga Jamuna.

 

He also won the Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards for Ganga Jamuna.

 

Early life and career

 

He was born in Islampur, a small town 89 kilometers from Lucknow. While studying at Government Jubilee Inter College, Lucknow, Mirza became acquainted with cinematographer Krishan Gopal of Calcutta, and worked as his assistant. He later co-produced with singer Midgan Kumar a movie called Anokhi Mohabbat (“Crazy Love”) in Bombay. He also directed the 1945 hit film Prabhu Ka Ghar starring Khursheed Bano, Trilok Kapoor and Sulochana Chatterjee. Mirza later became a dialogue and screenplay writer and was also one of the first Indians to be nominated for an Oscar for the movie Mother India (1957), based upon a story by Babubhai Mehta.

राणा उदयसिंह –

 

आज ही राणा उदयसिंह का जन्म हुआ था। वे मेवाड़ के राणा साँगा के पुत्र और राणा प्रताप के पिता थे। इनका जन्म इनके पिता के मरने के बाद हुआ था और तभी गुजरात के बहादुरशाह ने चित्तौड़ नष्ट कर दिया था। इनकी माता कर्णवती द्वारा हुमायूँ को राखीबंद भाई बनाने की बात इतिहास प्रसिद्ध है। मेवाड़ की ख्यातों में इनकी रक्षा की अनेक अलौकिक कहानियाँ कही गई हैं। उदयसिंह को कर्त्तव्यपरायण धाय पन्ना के साथ बलबीर से रक्षा के लिए जगह-जगह शरण लेनी पड़ी थी। उदयसिंह 1537 ई. में मेवाड़ के राणा हुए और कुछ ही दिनों के बाद अकबर ने मेवाड़ की राजधानी चित्तौड़ पर चढ़ाई की। हज़ारों मेवाड़ियों की मृत्यु के बाद जब लगा कि चित्तौड़गढ़ अब न बचेगा तब जयमल और पत्ता आदि वीरा के हाथ में उसे छोड़ उदयसिंह अरावली के घने जंगलों में चले गए। वहाँ उन्होंने नदी की बाढ़ रोक उदयसागर नामक सरोवर का निर्माण किया था। वहीं उदयसिंह ने अपनी नई राजधानी उदयपुर बसाई। चित्तौड़ के विध्वंस के चार वर्ष बाद उदयसिंह का देहांत हो गया।

डॉ. इन्दु प्रकाश पाण्डेय –

 

आज जन्मदिन है हिन्दी के समकालीन साहित्यकार डॉ. इन्दु प्रकाश पाण्डेय का। इन्दु प्रकाश पाण्डेय जर्मनी के फ्रैंकफुर्त नगर में स्थित जॉन वौल्‍फ़गॉग गोएटे विश्‍वविद्यालय के भारतीय भाषा विभाग से 1989 में अवकाश प्राप्‍त प्राध्‍यापक हैं। 90 वर्ष की आयु में भी डॉ. पाण्‍डेय की सक्रियता में कोई कमी नहीं है। वर्तमान में वे ‘नागरी प्रचारिणी सभा’ और ‘भारतीय पी.ई.एन.’ के स्‍थाई सदस्‍य हैं। डॉ. पाण्‍डेय ने सैंकड़ों लेखों, पचासों कविताओं, कहानियों, व्‍यक्तिचित्रों आदि के माध्‍यम से अपनी राष्‍ट्रभाषा हिन्‍दी के भण्‍डार में अपना योगदान दिया है। उनका साहित्‍य अनेक पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में प्रकाशित होता रहा है।

किशोर कुमार –

 

संगीत और अभिनय की दुनिया में एक ऐसा नाम है जो सदाबहार और हमेशा के लिए अमर है, वो नाम है किशोर कुमार का। दिग्गज सिंगर किशोर दा की आज 96वीं बर्थ एनिवर्सरी है। किशोर कुमार का असली नाम ‘आभास कुमार गांगुली’ था। पार्श्व गायन यानी बैकग्राउंड सिंगिग के लिए उन्हें आठ बार फ़िल्म फेयर पुरस्कार से गया। किशोर कुमार ने 80 से अधिक फ़िल्मों में अभिनय किया और 10 से अधिक फ़िल्मों का निर्देशन भी किया। एक अनुमान के मुताबिक़ किशोर कुमार ने वर्ष 1940 से वर्ष 1980 के बीच के अपने कैरियर के दौरान क़रीब 574 से अधिक गाने गाए। ऐसे तो उन्होंने एक से बढ़कर एक हिट गाने दिए हैं,

 

किशोर कुमार ने गायकी का एक नया अंदाज़ बनाया जो उस समय के नामचीन गायक रफ़ी, मुकेश और सहगल से काफ़ी अलग था। किशोर कुमार सन् 1969 में निर्माता निर्देशक शक्ति सामंत की फ़िल्म ‘आराधना’ के ज़रिये गायकी के दुनिया में सबसे सफल गायक बन गये। 1957 में बनी “फंटूस” में ‘दुखी मन मेरे’ गीत को गाकर उन्होंने अपनी ऐसी धाक जमाई कि जाने माने संगीतकारों को किशोर कुमार की प्रतिभा का लोहा मानना पड़ा।

 

आज भी उनकी सुनहरी आवाज़ लाखों संगीत के दीवानों के दिल में बसी हुई है और उसका जादू हमारे दिलों दिमाग़ पर छाया हुआ है। किशोर कुमार ने हिन्दी के साथ ही तमिल, मराठी, असमी, गुजराती, कन्नड़, भोजपुरी, मलयालम, बंगाली और उड़िया फ़िल्मों के लिए भी गीत गाए।

Vishal Bhardwaj –

 

Vishal Bhardwaj (born 4 August 1965) is an Indian filmmaker, music composer, and playback singer. He is known for his work in Hindi cinema, and is the recipient of nine National Film Awards and a Filmfare Award.

 

Bhardwaj made his debut as a music composer with the children’s film Abhay (1995), and received wider recognition with his compositions in Gulzar’s Maachis (1996). He received the Filmfare R. D. Burman Award for New Music Talent for the latter.[2] He went on to compose music for the films Satya (1998) and Godmother (1999). For the latter, he won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction.

 

Bhardwaj made his directorial debut with the children’s film Makdee (2002), for which he also composed the music. He garnered widespread critical acclaim and numerous accolades for writing and directing the Indian adaptations of three tragedies by William Shakespeare: Maqbool (2003) from Macbeth, Omkara (2006) from Othello, and Haider (2014) from Hamlet. He has also directed the action film Kaminey, the black comedy 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), and the satire Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (2013).

 

In addition, Bhardwaj produces films under his banner VB Pictures. He has co-written and produced the films Ishqiya (2010), its sequel Dedh Ishqiya (2014), and the drama thriller Talvar (2015), among others. He has composed the musical score for each of his directorial and production ventures, and frequently collaborates with the lyricist Gulzar. He is married to playback singer Rekha Bhardwaj. Bhardwaj is the board member of Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image.

Kishore Kumar (born Abhas Kumar Ganguly; pronunciation; 4 August 1929 – 13 October 1987) was an Indian playback singer, musician and actor. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest, most influential and dynamic singers in the history of modern Indian music. Kumar was one of the most popular singers in the Indian subcontinent, notable for his yodelling and ability to sing songs in different voices. He used to sing in different genres but some of his rare compositions, considered classics, were lost in time. In 2013, Kumar was voted “The Most Popular Male Playback Singer” in a poll conducted by the Filmfare magazine.

 

Besides Hindi, he sang in many other Indian languages, including Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Gujarati, Kannada, Bhojpuri, Malayalam, Odia and Urdu. He also released a few non-film albums in multiple languages, especially in Bengali, which are noted as all-time classics. According to his brother and legendary actor Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar was successful as a singer because his “voice hits the mike, straight, at its most sensitive point”.

 

He won 8 Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer out of 28 nominations and holds the record for winning and nominating the most Filmfare Awards in that category. He was awarded the Lata Mangeshkar Award by the Madhya Pradesh government in 1985. In 1997, the Madhya Pradesh Government initiated an award called the “Kishore Kumar Award” for contributions to Hindi cinema. In 2012, his unreleased last song sold for ₹15.6 lakh ($185,000 USD) at the Osian’s Cinefan Auction in New Delhi.

 

During the initial stage of his career, Kumar was deeply inspired by singer K. L. Saigal and imitated his style of singing in some of his early films but later evolved his own, unique style. He had a great respect for poet and musician Rabindranath Tagore who influenced him in many ways.

 

He was an ardent admirer of Hollywood actor-singer Danny Kaye. He hung the portraits of all these three personalities at his Gouri Kunj residence and would bow respectfully before them every day as a rule.

 

In his later career, Kumar was also heavily influenced by playback singer Ahmed Rushdi and his liking towards Rushdi was to the extent that former paid a tribute at Royal Albert  Hall in London to the latter by singing some of his songs.

 

Kumar employed yodelling in many of his songs including; Yeh dil na hota bechara, Zindagi ek safar hai suhana, and Chala jata hoon. The style eventually became an essential feature of his singing and was inspired by Jimmie Rodgers and Tex Morton.

 

In the movie Half Ticket, for one of the songs – “Aake Seedhi Lagi Dil Pe” – the music director Salil Chowdhury had a duet in mind and wanted Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar to sing the song. However, since Lata Mangeshkar was not in town and Salil Chowdhury had to record that song before she could return, Kumar solved the problem by singing both the male and female parts of the song himself. The duet is actually for Pran and Kumar on the screen dressed as a woman. It just turned out to be fine as he did admirably well singing both in male and female voices.

 

Music director S. D. Burman is credited with spotting Kumar’s talent for singing. During the making of Mashaal (1950), Burman visited Ashok’s house, where he heard Kumar imitating K. L. Saigal. He complimented him and told him that he should develop a style of his own, instead of copying Saigal. Kumar eventually developed his own style of singing, which featured yodelling, which he had heard on the records of Tex Morton and Jimmie Rodgers. 60 S. D. Burman kept making Kishore sing for Dev Anand from the 50s to the early 70s. S. D. Burman provided him the training and encouraged Kumar a lot, especially in the late 50s and early 60s, resulting in Kumar developing into a great singer in the future years.

 

D. Burman recorded Kumar’s voice for Dev Anand’s Munimji (1954), Taxi Driver (1954), House No. 44 (1955), Funtoosh (1956), Nau Do Gyarah (1957), Paying Guest (1957), Guide (1965), Jewel Thief (1967), Prem Pujari (1970), and Tere Mere Sapne (1971). He also composed music for Kumar’s home production Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958). Some of their songs were “Maana Janaab Ne Pukara Nahin” from Paying Guest (1957), “Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke” from Nau Do Gyarah (1957), “Ai Meri Topi Palat Ke Aa” from Funtoosh (1956), and “Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si” from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi.[42] Asha Bhosle and Kishore performed duets composed by Burman including “Chhod Do Aanchal” from Paying Guest (1957), “Ankhon Mein Kya Ji” from Nau Do Gyarah (1957), “Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka” and “Paanch Rupaiya Baara Aana” from Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958) and “Arre Yaar Meri Tum Bhi Ho Gajab” from Teen Deviyan (1965).
