The 71st National Film Awards were announced at a press conference held at the National Media Centre in New Delhi. The National Film Awards aim at encouraging the production of films of aesthetic & technical excellence and social relevance, according to the Directorate of Film Festivals of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The Awards also aim to increase appreciation of different cultures and communities across India, thus promoting unity and integrity.

The film “Daal Roti – Bread and Butter” explores the harsh reality of youth migration from rural farmlands to urban areas. Despite having ancestral lands and the potential for sustainable livelihood through agriculture, many young Indians are leaving villages in pursuit of uncertain jobs in cities—often taking up menial roles as auto drivers, security guards, and daily wage workers. “Daal Roti – Bread and Butter” questions this trend and positions agriculture not as a fallback profession, but as a dignified and entrepreneurial opportunity. The narrative is closely aligned with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s key initiatives—Lab on Land, Organic Farming, and Atmanirbhar Bharat, along with the national ethos of Jai Jawan, Jai Kissan, Jai Vigyan. The film sheds light on how government schemes can empower youth to view farming as a self-reliant business, rather than a burden or outdated tradition.
