The countdown to return home for Axiom Mission-4 crew including pilot Shubhanshu Shukla has begun. Once the SpaceX Dragon capsule undocks from the International Space Station a shortwhile from now, it will take more than 22 hours for the space capsule to return to Earth, with a splashdown at California coast around 3:00 PM Indian Standard Time tomorrow.

In a heartfelt farewell ceremony on Sunday evening, the astronauts exchanged words of gratitude. Group Captain Shukla became the first Indian to visit the International Space Station and the second Indian astronaut after Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, who went to space in 1984. During the journey, Group Captain Shukla conducted seven India-specific experiments. In his farewell speech aboard ISS, Group Captain Shukla described his space journey as incredible.

The SpaceX Dragon spends nearly a day in orbit, as it carries out a series of maneuvers to lower its orbit from the 400 kilometers where the International Space Station orbits the Earth. It follows a carefully planned sequence – including orbital alignment, de-orbit burn, and orbit lowering before it finally readies for re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere – to ensure maximum safety, parachute deployment and precise splashdown. These maneuvers are planned at a precise altitude, aligning with the spacecraft’s return trajectory.

The last time India, Poland, or Hungary sent people to space a long time back when their current crop of astronauts had not yet been born – and back then they were called cosmonauts. But this mission, especially for India, is no longer a one-off. India’s space agency, ISRO, sees the Axiom 4 mission as a key stepping stone toward its own maiden crewed mission, planned for 2027 under the Gaganyaan programme, meaning “sky craft”. India also plans to set up its own space station over the next decade.

Chandrayaan-3 consists of an indigenous propulsion module, a lander module, and a rover to develop and demonstrate new technologies required for interplanetary missions. On 23rd August 2023, Chandrayaan-3 successfully soft-landed on the Moon’s south pole. With this landing, India became the fourth nation to successfully land on the Moon and the first to achieve a soft landing near the lunar south pole. During the mission, several experiments including measurement of near-surface plasma content, presence of mineral elements, temperature profile of the lunar topsoil were conducted. “On the first Monday of Shravan, a heavy influx of devotees is being seen at Shiva temples across Uttarakhand. From the early hours of the morning, devotees have been assembling at temples for Jalabhishek, and as the day progresses, the crowd continues to grow. Long queues of devotees are being witnessed at prominent Shiva temples in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Kashipur, Dehradun, and other regions. Meanwhile, a large number of Kanwariyas are continuing to arrive in Haridwar for the Kanwar Yatra. Carrying Ganga water, they are heading towards Shiva temples with chants of “Bol Bam.” Cities like Haridwar, Rishikesh, and other towns along the route are filled with the spirit of Shiva devotion, and elaborate security arrangements have been made. Huge crowds of devotees are also gathering at major Shiva shrines like the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Uttarkashi, Tungnath Temple in Rudraprayag, Jageshwar Dham in Almora, Doodhatoli Shiva Temple in Pauri, and Neelkanth Mahadev. Special rituals and worship ceremonies have also been organized in these temples. The administration and police have ensured special security arrangements around the temples, including traffic management, deployment of medical teams, and arrangements for drinking water. Tripura is all set to become a prominent destination for religious and spiritual tourism, after Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha laid the foundation stone and performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the grand 51 Shaktipeethas Park at Banduar, in the Gomati district.
Located just a few kilometers from the holy Mata Tripureshwari Temple, one of the 51 Shaktipeethas, the religious park is set to become a landmark destination for pilgrims and tourists alike. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed confidence that the project will significantly enhance spiritual tourism and boost the state’s economy.
“Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said the park will house miniature replicas of all 51 Shaktipeethas, offering a one-stop spiritual experience – especially for devotees unable to travel across different countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, or Pakistan where some of the Shaktipeethas are located. Spread over 15 acres, the park will include a digital museum, amphitheater, sky bridge, vehicle parking, and a towering statue of Nataraj – which will be one of the tallest in India. With a budget of more than 97 crore the park is expected to be completed within 18 months. Construction will be handled by the Uttar Pradesh Jal Board. Once completed, the 51 Shaktipeethas Park will be a world-class cultural and spiritual tourism hub – blending tradition, devotion and modern infrastructure. Veteran actor B Saroja Devi, well known as Abhinaya Saraswati passed away in Bengaluru today at the age of 87. The iconic actor born on January 7, 1938 debuted as an actress in 1955 with Mahakavi Kalidasa. Spanning over seven decades, her career in the film industry saw her in over 200 films in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. She won the hearts of Kannada film lovers by playing the role of brave Rani Chennamma of Kittur who fought the British. Saroja Devi was honoured with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan for her valuable contribution to Indian cinema. She was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008 as part of the 60th Independence day celebration.
