World Hand Hygiene Day is observed on May 5 every year. This global event aims to promote the importance of hand hygiene in preventing the spread of diseases and infections. Every year World Hand Hygiene Day encourages people to to increase adherence to hand hygiene. Proper hand washing with soap and water is an effective way to promote good health by preventing several potential health conditions.

जब हम थोड़े समझदार होते हैं तो स्कूल और घर में खाने से पहले हाथ धोना सिखाया जाता है. लेकिन क्या आप जानते हैं कि हम सभी को हैड वॉश करना कितना जरूरी होता है. क्योंकि इससे हम कई बीमरियों से बच सकते हैं. हालांकि हमारे समाज में कुछ लोग ऐसे भी हैं जो हाथ धोए बिना ही खाना खाना पसंद करते हैं. ऐसे ही लोगों को जागरूक करने के लिए हर साल 5 मई को वर्ल्ड हैंड हाइजीन डे मनाया जाता है.

अब आप सोच रहे होंगे कि पहली बार आखिर कब वर्ल्ड हैंड हाइजीन डे मनाया गया था तो आपको बता दें इसकी शुरुआत पहली बार साल 2009 में विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन (डब्ल्यूएचओ) ने किया था. जिसका मुख्य उद्देश्य हाथ की स्वच्छता के महत्व के बारे में जागरूकता फैलाना है.

Each year the World Health Organisation promotes the “Save Lives: Clean Your Hands” campaign. This campaign, launched in 2009 aims to ‘bring people together’ in support of hand hygiene globally.

THEME:-

The theme for the year 2024 is “Promoting knowledge and capacity building of health and care workers through innovative and impactful training and education, on infection prevention and control, including hand hygiene.”

यह दिन बीमारियों और संक्रमणों के प्रसार को रोकने के लिए हाथ की स्वच्छता और अच्छी हाथ स्वच्छता प्रथाओं के महत्व के बारे में जागरूकता पैदा करने के लिए मनाया जाता है। इस दिन को दुनिया भर में मान्यता प्राप्त है और इसका उद्देश्य खराब स्वास्थ्य की रोकथाम में हाथ की स्वच्छता के महत्व को उजागर करना है। यह लोगों को अच्छे हाथ स्वच्छता व्यवहार अपनाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करने के लिए मनाया जाता है जो उन्हें संक्रमण और बीमारियों से बचा सकता है।

COVID-19 Reinforces the Importance of Hand Washing:-

The COVID-19 pandemic has seen a focus on education and information on hand washing aimed both at people working within the health sector as well as to the general public. There has been a proliferation of public health messages through various sources about the importance of handwashing and the correct techniques for handwashing.

Our hands are a critical vector for transmitting microorganisms.The cross-transmission of these organisms to others occurs when we fail to wash our hands effectively. Within healthcare systems and services, there have been almost continual awareness campaigns in place to encourage hand washing among health service personnel, patients and visitors.
Handwashing helps prevent spread of infectious diseases
Several infectious diseases can be spread from one person to another by contaminated hands. These diseases include gastrointestinal infections, such as salmonellosis and respiratory infections, such as influenza, colds and coronavirus (COVID-19). Washing your hands properly with soap and water can help prevent the spread of the germs (like bacteria and viruses) that cause these diseases.
Some forms of gastrointestinal and respiratory infections can cause serious complications, especially for young children, the elderly, or those with a weakened immune system.

How to wash hands properly.

• Wet your hands with clean, running water.
• Turn off the tap and apply soap properly.
• Lather your hands and apply enough soap to cover your hands and wrists. Do not miss the back of your hands, between fingers and under your nails.
• Rub at least for 20 seconds.
• Now open the tap and rinse your hands.
• Dry them with a clean towel.

When to wash hands:-

• You must wash hands before and after:
  You consume foods and drinks
  
• Preparation of food
  
• Taking a medicine or treating a wound
  
• Meeting or taking care of someone sick
  Coughing, sneezing or blowing nose
  
• Using the toilet
  
• Changing diapers or handling a child
  
• After throwing garbage
  
• After animal, animal feed or animal waste

जीवन बचाएं- अपने हाथ साफ करें” इस दिवस में स्वास्थ्य सेवा में हाथ की स्वच्छता में सुधार के महत्व पर ध्यान दिया गया है. जिसमें WHO इन प्रयासों के लिए सहायता प्रदान करता है. अगर आप हाथ नहीं धोते हैं तो आज से धोना शुरू कर दें. ताकि हम आने वाले बीमारियों से बच सकें. क्योंकि हाथ ने धुलने से भी शरीर में कई तरह की बीमारियां होती हैं.

WORLD LAUGHTER DAY

Today is also World Laughter Day. Laughter, often called the best medicine, stands rightfully up to its name when it comes to mental health and overall well-being. Beyond its ability to simply make us feel good and lighter, it offers a myriad of benefits that contribute to the holistic well-being of a person. So if someone played an April Fools joke on you and it made you laugh, thank them because they did your mental health a favour!

Every year on the first Sunday of May, we celebrate World Laughter Day! It’s a day to focus on the amazing power of laughter to uplift and heal us.

The heatwave condition prevailing in Tripura since last several days is not only affecting human beings but even the animals. The soaring rise in temperature has therefore prompted the Sepahijala Zoo authority to take urgent action to ensure that the wild animals such as king of the jungle Lion and big cats such as Tiger and Leopards do not fall sick due to harsh summer. Our Agartala correspondent has more in this report…

The stinging effects of global warming is hitting the mankind hard and even animals are no exception to it. The Sepahijala Zoo, the only zoo in Tripura which has several endangered species such as Lions, Tigers, Leopards, exotic birds , Bears and Hippopotamus is seen taking requisite actions to ensure that animals in their enclosure do not fall ill due to depleting electrolyte levels.

As part of the measure to provide some respite to the animals from soaring heat coupled with high humidity, the zoo authority has been splashing gallons of water in the enclosure of Lions, Tigers, Leopards and are also keeping ice-blocks in the cage so that the intensity of heat is reduced.  DD India spoke to the Director of Sepahijala Zoo, Biswajit Das and this is what he had to say….

As the environmentalist observe that the rise in temperature is just a tip of an iceberg, it is time for humans to get into a combat mode by planting more trees and reducing the emission of greenhouse gases that cause further damage to the planet and work with an objective to provide better future to the next generation. Indian Institute Technology Goa recently organized the Indo-French Workshop on Marine Science and Technology–Collaborative Research Directions and Outcomes for India and France from 17 to 19 April 2024. The workshop was organized with the aim to energize activities that would contribute to the country’s blue economy plans. Our Panaji Goa correspondent has more in this report…

Indo-French Workshop on Marine Science and Technology at IIT Goa during 17-19 April was funded by the Indo-French Centre for Promotion of Advanced Scientific Research (CEFIPRA) which is a joint Indo-French body funded by the governments of India and France. Multiple French institutions like Ecole Navale, UBO, ENIB, ENSTA Bretagne, Brest Technopole and companies like Exail participated in the workshop. Extensive and detailed discussions were held during this workshop which would help strengthen the Blue Economy of both countries.

The workshop culminated in the formation of the GOAT (Goa Atlantic) partnership, spearheaded by IIT Goa, comprising several academic and research institutions from the Brest region of France. The Indo-French Workshop on Marine Science and Technology at IIT Goa serves as a testament to the strengthening Indo-French ties and underscores the commitment of both nations to advancing scientific cooperation for the benefit of the global maritime community. “Rajkot Lok Sabha Constituency is one of the high-profile seats in Gujarat, especially in the Saurashtra region. The constituency comprises seven assembly seats in Rajkot and Morbi districts. The Rajkot Lok Sabha seat held its first election in 1962, with the Congress party securing victory. Since 1989, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been winning the Rajkot seat, except in 2009 when BJP’s Kiran Patel lost to Congress’ Kunvarji Bavaliya. Mohan Kundariya won the seat in 2014 and 2019. This year, BJP has fielded senior leader and Union Minister Parshottam Rupala on the seat who will face senior congress leader Paresh Dhanani. This remarkable achievement adds to India’s historic tally of 43 medals secured across the categories. Senior national champion Akash extended his dominating run in the 60kg category with a 5-0 win over Ilyasov Sayat of Uzbekistan in the semi-finals.

साहित्यकार और गणितज्ञ गोरख प्रसाद

गणितज्ञ, ‘हिंदी विश्वकोश’ के संपादक और हिंदी में वैज्ञानिक साहित्य के जाने-माने लेखक गोरख प्रसाद का 5 मई, 1961 को वाराणसी में  निधन हुआ था। वे ज्योतिष और खगोल के प्रकांड विद्वान् थे। गोरख प्रसाद काशी में ‘हिंदी सहित्य सम्मेलन’ के 28वें अधिवेशन में विज्ञान परिषद के अध्यक्ष थे। वे ‘बनारस मैथमैटिकल सोसायटी’ के भी अध्यक्ष रहे थे। इन पर उनकी कृतियों में निहारिका, आकाश की सैर, सूर्यसारिणी,  चंद्रसारिणी, भारतीय ज्योतिष का इतिहास शामिल है। हिंदी साहित्य सम्मेलन द्वारा 1931 ई. में ‘फोटोग्राफी’ ग्रंथ पर गोरख प्रसाद को ‘मंगला प्रसाद पारितोषिक’ मिला। संवत्‌ 1989 में काशी नागरी प्रचारिणी सभा से उनकी पुस्तक ‘सौर परिवार’ पर डॉ. छन्नूलाल पुरस्कार, ग्रीब्ज़ पदक और रेडिचे पदक मिले।

Naushad Ali (25 December 1919 – 5 May 2006) was an Indian composer for Hindi films. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest and foremost music directors of the Hindi film industry. He is particularly known for popularising the use of classical music in films. His first film as an independent music director was Prem Nagar in 1940. His first musically successful film was Rattan (1944), followed by 35 silver jubilee hits, 12 golden jubilee and 3 diamond jubilee mega successes. Naushad was conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Bhushan in 1981 and 1992 respectively for his contribution to the Hindi film industry.

सन 1940 से 2006 तक उन्होंने अपना संगीत का सफर जारी रखा। उन्होंने अंतिम बार 2006 में बनी ‘ताजमहल’ के लिए संगीत दिया। अपने अंतिम दिनों तक वे कहते थे, ‘मुझे आज भी ऐसा लगता है कि अभी तक न मेरी संगीत की तालीम पूरी हुई है और न ही मैं अच्छा संगीत दे सका।’ और इसी मलाल के साथ वे 5 मई, 2006 को इस दुनिया से रुखसत हो गए।

न्यायाधीश लीला सेठ

भारत में उच्च न्यायालय की मुख्य न्यायाधीश बनने वाली प्रथम महिला लीला सेठ की भी आज पुण्य तिथि है। उनका निधन नोएडा में 5 मई 2017 को हुआ था। दिल्ली उच्च न्यायालय की पहली महिला न्यायाधीश बनने का श्रेय भी इन्हीं को प्राप्त था। वह देश की प्रथम ऐसी महिला भी थीं, जिन्होंने लंदन बार परीक्षा में शीर्ष स्थान प्राप्त किया था। वे 2000 तक विधि आयोग में रहीं और ‘हिंदू सक्सेशन एक्ट’ में संशोधन का श्रेय भी उन्हीं को जाता है। 1998 से 2000 तक वे लॉ कमीशन ऑफ़ इंडिया की सदस्य रहीं और हिन्दू उत्तराधिकार क़ानूनों में संशोधन कराया जिसके तहत संयुक्त परिवार में बेटियों को बराबर का अधिकार प्रदान किया गया। लीला सेठ ने अपनी एक पुस्तक ‘ऑन बैलेंस’  के हिंदी अनुवाद ‘घर और आदालत’ में जिंदगी की कई खट्टी-मीठी यादों और घर परिवार से जुड़े कई कड़वे अनुभवों को उजागर किया है।

Gulshan Kumar Dua (5 May 1951 – 12 August 1997), was an Indian film and music producer and businessman who was the founder of the Super Cassettes Industries Limited (T-Series) music label in the Bollywood industry. After founding T-Series in 1983, Dua established it as a leading record label in the 1990s. Gulshan Kumar started his own audio cassette operation known as “Super Cassettes Industries,” which turned in to a profitable business. His other movies included Bahaar Aane Tak, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin, Ayee Milan Ki Raat, Meera Ka Mohan, Jeena Marna Tere Sang and Bewafa Sanam.

आबिद सुरती का आज जन्मदिन है, जो एक राष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार विजेता हिन्दी-गुजराती साहित्यकार और कार्टून पात्र ‘ढब्बू जी’ के सर्जक हैं। आबिद सुरती चित्रकार, कार्टूनिस्ट, व्यंग्यकार, उपन्यासकार और कहानीकार भी हैं। विभिन्न कलाविधाएँ उनके लिए कला और ज़िन्दगी के ढर्रे को तोड़ने का जरिया रही हैं। उनकी ये कोशिशें उनके चित्रों में नज़र आती हैं। स्वभाव से यथार्थवादी होते हुए भी वे अपनी कहानियों में मानव-मन की उड़ानों को शब्दांकित करते हैं।

She participated in 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. In the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, she won a gold medal. She has the current National Record for the longest discus throw of 64.76 meters.

निशानेबाज समरेश जंग

समरेश जंग भारत के प्रसिद्ध निशानेबाज़ यानी शूटर  हैं, जिनका जन्म आज के ही दिन 1970 में हुआ था। 2006 में मेलबर्न में हुए 18वें राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में भारतीय निशानेबाज़ समरेश जंग को इन खेलों का सर्वश्रेष्ठ खिलाड़ी चुना गया था। ऐसा पहली बार हुआ था, जब भारत के किसी खिलाड़ी को सर्वश्रेष्ठ घोषित किया गया हो।  उन्होंने यह पुरस्कार जीतकर एक नया इतिहास रच डाला। समरेश जंग ने द्वितीय साउथ एशियन फेडरेशन शूटिंग चैंपियनशिप में 1997 में दो स्वर्ण पदक जीते थे। 2002 के राष्ट्रमंडल खेलों में भी समरेश ने दो स्वर्ण पदक जीतकर सफलता प्राप्त की थी। खेलों के अंत में समरेश जंग को ‘डेविड डिक्सन अवॉर्ड’ क्लोजिंग सेरेमनी के वक्त प्रदान किया गया।  2002 में समरेश को ‘अर्जुन पुरस्कार’ प्रदान किया गया।

Zubair Ahmed Siddiqi (5 May 1944 – 28 May 2003) better known as Marc Zuber, was an actor who appeared in many British and Hindi films and television dramas. Marc Zuber was born Zubair Ahmed Siddiqi on 5 May 1944 in Lucknow. He came to Britain with his family in 1951, joining his father who had moved two years earlier as a BBC radio producer. Zuber was brought up in London and went to Harrow Technical College before training as an actor at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. He left drama school in 1968, changing his name to Marc Zuber on the advice of his agent, and began his acting career in the theatre with seasons at Chester, Bolton, Richmond, the Shaw Theatre, London, and two years at the Royal Shakespeare Company. He appeared in mostly small roles in television and film. He had a small role in Coronation Street playing Mr Khan in 1990. But he also starred in the Hindi films, Yeh Nazdeekiyan (1982) and Kamla (1984), and had a leading role in Qatl (1986). Zuber died on 28 May 2003, in London, England.

परमवीर चक्र विजेता कर्नल होशियार सिंह

परमवीर चक्र से सम्मानित कर्नल होशियार का आज के ही दिन 1937 में जन्म हुआ था। कर्नल होशियार सिंह को वर्ष 1971 के भारत-पाकिस्तान युद्ध में 3 ग्रेनेडियर्स की अगुवाई करते हुए अद्भुत पराक्रम दिखाने और दुश्मन को धूल चटाने के लिए परमवीर चक्र से सम्मानित किया गया था। उन्होंने जम्मू कश्मीर की दूसरी ओर, शकरगड़ के पसारी क्षेत्र में जरवाल का मोर्चा फ़तह किया था। इस युद्ध को भारत ने कई मोर्चो पर लड़ा जिसमें एक मोर्चे पर मेजर होशियार सिंह ने भी कमान संभाली।
