Anti-Terrorism Day is observed throughout the country annually on May 21. The day is marked to raise awareness across all sections of people about the dangers of terrorism and violence, as well as its impact on individuals, society and the country. The barbarity of terrorism displayed by terrorists in Pahalgam on 22 nd April 22 has shocked the entire country and the world. The merciless killing of innocent citizens in front of their family and their children on the basis of their religion was a very gruesome face of terror and cruelty. This was also a disgusting attempt to break the harmony and unity of India.

“देश में नवीकरणीय ऊर्जा के उपयोग को बढ़ावा देने के लिए शुरू की गई प्रधानमंत्री सूर्य घर योजना के तहत 3 लाख 36 हजार सोलर रूफटॉप पैनल लगाकर गुजरात ने देश में प्रथम स्थान हासिल किया है। 11 मई 2025 तक राज्य में सोलर रूफटॉप सिस्टम द्वारा 1 हजार 232 मेगावाट सौर ऊर्जा उत्पन्न की गई है। राज्य सरकार ने ईस योजना के तहत वित्तीय वर्ष 2024-25 के लिए तीन लाख पांच हजार सोलर रूफटॉप पैनल लगाने का लक्ष्य तय समय से पहले हासिल कर लिया है। गुजरात ऊर्जा विकास निगम लिमिटेड के प्रबंध निदेशक जयप्रकाश शिवहरे ने सौर ऊर्जा से पर्यावरण को हो रहे फायदे के बारे में बताया.

In a major boost to the agriculture and livestock sectors of Nagaland, Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, recently inaugurated the Administrative-cum-Academic Block of the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Imphal, at Jalukie. He also announced a significant financial package and other measures to support the agri and allied sectors of the state. Our Kohima correspondent has more details.
“Union Minister Mr. Chouhan, addressing the gathering, highlighted Nagaland’s unique agricultural and livestock potential, and announced a financial assistance package of over 338 crore rupees for the state’s agri-development. He urged the state government to draft a comprehensive action plan to utilise the fund, assuring full support from the centre.
The Minister called upon the state government to set up district-level scientific teams which will regularly engage with famers in villagers aiming to bring grassroots insights into policymaking. Mr. Chouhan also pledged support for start-ups and entrepreneurship, inviting students to present their innovative ideas with him in New Delhi. He also visited the Farmers’ Fair and exhibition stalls, and engaged directly with farmers. Nagaland Governor La Ganesan, who presided over the event, stressed the importance of scientific approaches and collaboration to realize the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. Deputy Chief Minister T. R. Zeliang also underlined the need for research-based farming and technical innovation to transform the region’s agricultural economy. राजस्थान के राष्ट्रीय अभ्यारण्य इन दिनों नन्हें बाघ शावकों से गुलजार है। उनकी अठखेलियों को देखकर न सिर्फ समूचा जंगल बल्कि वन्य जीव प्रेमी भी उल्लासित है। राज्य में बाघों का कुनबा लगातार बढ़ रहा है। इस वर्ष रणथम्भौर बाघ परियोजना में 6 अलग-अलग बाघिनों के साथ 15 नये शावक देखे गये। वहीं सरिस्का अभ्यारण्य में एक बाघिन ने तीन शावकों को जन्म दिया है। एक रिपोर्ट-
“रणथंभौर और सरिस्का बाघ अभ्यारण्य में सरकार के लगातार प्रयासों से बाघों की संख्या में बढोतरी हुई है। वन विभाग से मिली जानकारी के अनुसार 1 हजार 734 वर्ग किलोमीटर क्षेत्र में फैली रणथम्भौर बाघ परियोजना में फिलहाल लगभग 85 बाघ-बाघिन तथा नये शावक हैं। इसी वर्ष मई में बाघिन टी-111 शक्ति के साथ दो शावक नजर आये। वहीं टी-2302 के साथ तीन शावक देखे गये। अप्रैल में टी-107 ने तीन और टी-2313 ने दो नये शावकों को जन्मा। इससे पहले फरवरी में टी-103 के साथ दो और टी-122 के साथ तीन नये शावक नजर आये। वहीं अगर सरिस्का की बात करें तो यहां कुल बाघों की संख्या 45 हो गई हैं। पिछले महीने एसटी-30 ने 3 शावकों को जन्म दिया। पिछले साल सरिस्का में 13 शावक जन्मे थे। एक रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक घनी आबादी के बावजूद देश में बाघों की संख्या में इज़ाफ़ा मानव के साथ उनके सहअस्तित्व का एक बडा उदाहरण है। परिक्रमा के लिये जयपुर से माधुरी वशिष्ठ’

GUJARAT – LION POPULATION
In a major achievement for wildlife conservation, Gujarat has recorded a remarkable rise in its Asiatic lion population, which has now reached 891. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced the release of the 16th Lion Population Estimate in Gandhinagar today. According to the data, the population now includes 196 male lions, 330 females, and a significant number of cubs. Chief Minister Patel credited the consistent rise in lion numbers to the government’s long-term conservation strategies and favourable ecological conditions. He emphasised the importance of Project Lion 2047, launched by Prime Minister Modi, which aims to ensure the species’ long-term survival. We have a report from our correspondent.
“Conducted over four days from May 10 to 13, the massive census operation spanned 35,000 square kilometres across 58 talukas in 11 districts. It involved over 3,800 personnel, including forest officials, local villagers, and sarpanches. Modern technologies such as GPS tracking, digital cameras, camera traps, and AI-powered identification tools to enhance accuracy. The use of the e-GujForest app for real-time data collection and GIS mapping further streamlined the process, making this one of the most scientifically advanced wildlife censuses in the country. The census followed the Direct Sighting Block Count method, first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister. Domestic benchmark indices reversed their three-day losing streak and closed with a half per cent gain today. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, rose 410 points or 0.51 per cent up to close at 81,597 and National Stock Exchange’s Nifty 50 gained 130 points or 0.52 per cent up to settle at 24,813. In the Indian bullion market, 24-karat gold was trading 0.80 percent higher at 96,080 rupees per 10 grams, while silver 999 fine was also trading 0.62 percent up at 98,100 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.

DEATHS
Sunderlal Bahuguna
Sunderlal Bahuguna (9 January 1927 – 21 May 2021) environmentalist and Chipko movement leader. The idea of the Chipko movement was suggested by his wife Vimla Bahuguna and him. He fought for the preservation of forests in the Himalayas, first as a member of the Chipko movement in the 1970s, and later spearheaded the anti-Tehri Dam movement from the 1980s to early 2004. He was one of the early environmentalists of India and later he and others associated with the Chipko movement and started taking up wider environmental issues, such as being opposed to large dams.
प्रसिद्ध पर्यावरणविद और ‘चिपको आन्दोलन’ के प्रमुख नेता को भी आज याद कर रहे हैं जिनकी पुण्य तिथि है। सन 1984 में उन्हें ‘राष्ट्रीय एकता पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया गया। सन 1949 में मीराबेन और ठक्कर बाप्पा के सम्पर्क में आने के बाद सुन्दरलाल बहुगुणा दलित वर्ग के विद्यार्थियों के उत्थान के लिए प्रयासरत हो गए तथा उनके लिए टिहरी में ‘ठक्कर बाप्पा होस्टल’ की स्थापना भी की। सुन्दरलाल बहुगुणा को पद्मश्री, पद्म विभूषण सहित विभिन्न पुरस्कारों से सम्मानित किया गया। वो हमेशा कहते थे कि पारिस्थितिकी ही स्थायी अर्थव्यवस्था है“ – यह केवल एक कथन नहीं, बल्कि एक महत्त्वपूर्ण सिद्धांत है। यह हमें यह याद दिलाता है, कि मानव कल्याण और समृद्धि पारिस्थितिक संतुलन और पर्यावरणीय स्वास्थ्य से अटूट रूप से जुड़ी हुई हैं। आइए आपको उनका एक साक्षात्कार सुनाते हैं जिसमें बहुगुणा बता रहे हैं कि प्रकृति और जंगल हमारे कितने ज़रूरी है-

शरद जोशी (21 मई 1931, उज्जैन – 5 सितंबर 1991, मुंबई)
अपने समय के अनूठे व्यंग्य रचनाकार थे। अपने वक्त की सामाजिक, राजनीतिक और सांस्कृतिक विसंगतियों को उन्होंने अत्यंत पैनी निगाह से देखा। अपनी पैनी कलम से बड़ी साफगोई के साथ उन्हें सटीक शब्दों में व्यक्त किया। शरद जोशी पहले व्यंग्य नहीं लिखते थे, लेकिन बाद में उन्होंने अपनी आलोचना से खिन्न होकर व्यंग्य लिखना शुरू कर दिया। वह भारत के पहले व्यंग्यकार थे, जिन्होंने पहली बार मुंबई में ‘चकल्लस’ के मंच पर 1968 में गद्य पढ़ा और किसी कवि से अधिक लोकप्रिय हुए। उनकी मुख्य रचनाओं में शामिल व्यंग्य हैं -परिक्रमा, किसी बहाने, यथासम्भव। फिल्मों में क्षितिज और छोटी सी बात जबकि धारावाहिक में विक्रम बेताल, सिंहासन बत्तीसी आदि शामिल हैं।

Subodh Mukherjee
Subodh Mukherjee was the leading filmmaker known for his romantic comedies and social dramas like “MunimJi,” “Junglee,” “Saaz Aur Awaaz,’ “Shagird,” “Abhinetri,” “Sharmeelee,” and many more. Subodh Mukherjee’s directorial debut, “Munimji (1955),”was a significant hit and set the tone for his future works. He followed this with “Paying Guest (1957), starring Dev Anand and Nutan,” and “Love Marriage (1959), starring Dev Anand and Mala Sinha,” both of which solidified his reputation as a director who could blend entertainment with substance. His next film was the 1961 film “Junglee,” which became a turning point in Mukherjee’s career as well as in Hindi cinema. The film not only catapulted Shammi Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, and Saira Banu to stardom but also introduced the audience to a new style of music and story treatment. In 1971, Mukherjee produced “Sharmeelee,” which was directed by Sameer Ganguli a romantic film with a twist that became popular for its intriguing storyline and melodious soundtracks like “Khilte Hain Gul Yahan,” “Aaj Madhosh Hua Jaye Re,” and “Reshmi Ujala Hai Makhmali Andhera.” The film is also known for Rakhi’s glamorous transformation. Towards the later part of his career, he directed Teesri Aankh (1982), and Ulta Seedha (1985), which were among his final directorial ventures. his works, they are known for their unique narratives and Mukherjee’s distinctive style.

His best-known compositions, “Ain’t Misbehavin'” and “Honeysuckle Rose”, were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1984 and 1999, respectively.
