Bees Are The Unsung Heroes Of Sustainability The UN General Assembly declared 20th May as World Bee Day in order to create awareness on the pivotal role of bees and other pollinators in keeping people and the planet healthy and address many challenges in this context.
This year’s theme is noted as “Bee Inspired by Nature to Nourish Us All” abd was set by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. This emphasizes their indispensable role in food security, nutrition, and biodiversity.Despite their immense importance, bee populations around the world are under threat. Habitat loss, pesticide use and climate change are just some of the challenges bees face. Bees are responsible for pollinating over 75% of the world’s crops.

आपको बता दें कि दिसंबर 2017 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने 20 मइ को विश्व मधुमक्खी दिवस के रूप में घोषित करने के प्रस्ताव को मंजूरी दी थी ।
There are many reasons for the worldwide bee mortality :
- problem of “loss of habitat”: Due to intensive agriculture, soil consumption and environmental pollution, many insects are losing their habitat and finding less food.
- Pesticides and fertilizers”: Insecticides are harmful or toxic to bees. Weedkillers, on the other hand, attack important food sources and destroy them.
- The climate crisis is changing the habitat of bees. Different flowering times, sudden temperature fluctuations and longer warm periods are causing insects problems.
Yurdi Yasmi, Director of the FAO Plant Production and Protection Division, invites us to recognize the importance of bees and all other pollinators this World Bee Day (20 May 2025). Pollinators play vital roles in our foods, economies and ecosystems, he explains.
World Bee Day is an opportunity not only to emphasize the importance of pollination by bees, but also to celebrate the variety of products that we owe to bees. Bee products such as honey, pollen, beeswax, beeswax candles, honey wine, cosmetic products, oxymel and propolis drops are not only delicious and versatile, but also offer a wealth of health benefits.
If the bees and other beneficial insects disappear, the whole system collapses, because 90% of wild flowering plants and 75% of our crops depend on these animals.

जैसे कि घरों में सूरजमुखी, गेंदा, तुलसी जैसे मधुमक्खी अनुकूल पौधे लगाने
स्थानीय रूप से उत्पादित शहद और मधुमक्खी उत्पाद खरीदें। इससे स्थानीय मधुमक्खी पालकों को सहयोग मिलता है और स्थानीय मधुमक्खी विविधता को प्रोत्साहन।
हानिकारक रसायनों और कीटनाशकों के प्रयोग से बचें। ये सीधे मधुमक्खियों की मृत्यु और भ्रमण क्षमताओं को प्रभावित करते हैं।
भूमिगत घोंसला बनाने वाली मधुमक्खियों के लिए मिट्टी के क्षेत्रों को खुला छोड़ें। जरूरी नहीं कि हर जगह घास या फर्श हो।
बाड़/झाड़ियां लगाएं। ये प्राकृतिक आवास बनाते हैं और परागणकर्ताओं को आश्रय व भोजन प्रदान करते हैं।
कई बार लोगों के घरों और दुकानों में मधुमक्खी के बड़े छत्ते लग जाते हैं और फिर ऐसे में हमें उन लोगों की जरूरत होती है जो इन मधुमक्खी के छत्तों को सुरक्षा पूर्वक हटा सके। मुकेश भी इन्हीं में से एक हैं। मुकेश मधुमक्खियों को बिना नुकसान पहुंचाए सुरक्षित स्थानों पर स्थानांतरित करते हैं। मुकेश का यह कार्य प्रकृति के प्रति उनके प्रेम और समर्पण का प्रतीक है. वे न केवल मधुमक्खियों के संरक्षण के लिए काम कर रहे हैं, बल्कि लोगों को मधुमक्खियों के महत्व के बारे में जागरूक कर रहे हैं. मुकेश पिछले छह साल में 1500 से अधिक मधुमक्खी छत्ते रेस्क्यू कर चुके हैं.
उन्होंने बताया कि वो मधुमक्खियों को छत्तों को रेस्क्यू कर वन क्षेत्र में सुरक्षित छोड़ देते हैं. अक्सर घर, दुकान, ऑफिस बिल्डिंग में मधुमक्खियों के बड़े छत्ते लगने पर लोग आग जलाकर धुंए से भगाते हैं. इसमें मधुमक्खियों की जान पर बन आती है. घबराहट में मधुमक्खियां लोगों पर हमला कर देती है. इंसान और मधुमक्खी दोनों को नुकसान होता है. इसे देखते हुए मुकेश ने छत्तों को रेस्क्यू कर वन क्षेत्र में छोड़ना शुरू किया.

In a significant academic restructuring move, Nagpur University has announced the formation of a School of Law by merging the iconic Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Law College and the Postgraduate Department of Law. This decision, taken during the college’s centenary year, aligns with the university’s efforts to implement the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) and transform 40–50 PG departments into multidisciplinary schools.
The new School of Law will be located on the existing Amravati Road campus and offer an integrated academic journey from undergraduate to PhD. The initiative received approvals from all statutory bodies and was facilitated by Management Council member Samay Bansod.“This merger ensures academic continuity and strengthens our national standing,” the university stated, emphasizing its aim for both national and international recognition. The move is also expected to bring administrative efficiency by unifying UG and PG programs under one roof.
The decision has been widely welcomed by the legal fraternity in Nagpur.This School of Law marks a new chapter in the university’s legal education legacy, poised to join the ranks of leading law institutions in India.

केंद्रीय पोत, नौवहन एवं जलमार्ग मंत्री सर्बानंद सोनोवाल ने पिछले दिनों असम और पूर्वोत्तर भारत में चल रही अंतर्देशीय जलमार्ग परियोजनाओं की समीक्षा की। बैठक में केन्द्रीय मंत्री ने समय पर परियोजनाओं को पूरा करने पर जोर दिया।
बैठक के बाद केन्द्रीय मंत्री सर्बानन्द सोनोवाल ने कहा कि असम और पूर्वोत्तर में 1,000 करोड़ रुपए की जलमार्ग अवसंरचना परियोजनाएं शुरू की गई हैं, जिन्हें 2026 तक पूरा करने का लक्ष्य है। जिनमें 300 करोड़ रुपए की परियोजनाएं पूरी हो चुकी हैं, और शेष 700 करोड़ रुपए की परियोजनाएं 2025 तक पूरी कर ली जाएंगी।”

बैठक में केन्द्रीय मंत्री सर्बानन्द सोनोवाल ने कहा कि ‘जलवाहक’ जैसी योजनाएं कारोबारियों को किफायती, कुशल और पर्यावरण-अनुकूल परिवहन अपनाने के लिए प्रेरित कर रही हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि
गुवाहाटी में समुद्री कौशल विकास केंद्र और डिब्रूगढ़ में अंतर्देशीय जल परिवहन के लिए उत्कृष्टता केंद्र के माध्यम से युवाओं को पोत संचालन, माल प्रबंधन, लॉजिस्टिक्स में प्रशिक्षित किया जा रहा है।
` इसके अलावा 315 करोड़ रुपए की लागत से गुवाहाटी और धुबरी में वाटर मेट्रो सेवा के लिए 2 इलेक्ट्रिक कैटामरैन का निर्माण और 100 करोड़ रुपए की क्रूज़ टर्मिनल एवं 120 करोड़ रुपये की डिब्रूगढ़ में क्षेत्रीय उत्कृष्टता केंद्र की योजना भी है। पांडु से बोगीबील तक ₹150 करोड़ की फेयरवे विकास योजना और पांडु में ₹208 करोड़ का शिप रिपेयर केंद्र भी प्रमुख योजनाये हैं।

Sabarmati River Mega River Cleaning for Parikrama
In Indian culture, rivers are revered as goddesses — sacred lifelines that nurture life and civilization. Echoing this deep-rooted belief, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently emphasized the importance of keeping our rivers clean and sacred. Taking this vision forward, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has launched a Mega River Cleaning.
The Sabarmati River, considered the lifeline of Ahmedabad, gracefully divides the city into two parts and is home to India’s first-of-its-kind riverfront. Currently running dry from May 12 to June 5 due to pre-monsoon repair and maintenance work, this period has been turned into a golden opportunity by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for a large-scale cleaning drive.
The Sabarmati River Cleaning Mega Drive, which began five days ago, has seen enthusiastic participation from over 30,000 citizens and more than 180 NGOs. Speaking to Akashvani, AMC Deputy Commissioner Amrutesh Aurangabadkar shared that 288 metric tonnes of waste have been collected so far.

राजकुमार शुक्ल (23 अगस्त 1875 – 20 मई 1929) वह व्यक्ति थे जिन्होंने महात्मा गांधी को चंपारण आने के लिए राजी किया जिसके कारण बाद में चंपारण सत्याग्रह हुआ। ये बिहार के चंपारण मुरली भराहावा ग्राम के निवासी और स्वतंत्रता सेनानी थे। इनके पिता का नाम कोलाहल शुक्ल था। उनकी 125वीं जयंती के उपलक्ष्य में, डाक विभाग ने 2000 में उनके सम्मान में एक डाक टिकट जारी किया। चंपारण सत्याग्रह के 100 वर्ष पूरे होने के अवसर पर बिहार सरकार ने पटना के गांधी संग्रहालय में पंडित राजकुमार शुक्ल की एक प्रतिमा स्थापित की।

आज कवि पं. गयाप्रसाद शुक्ल ‘सनेही’ की पुण्यतिथि है। सनेही जी आरम्भ से ही मेधावी छात्र रहे। काव्यरचना का शौक इन्हें बचपन से ही था। काव्यशास्त्र का सम्यक अनुशील इन्होंने हडहा निवासी लाला गिरधारी लाल के चरणों में बैठकर किया। लालाजी रीतिशास्त्र के बड़े पंडित और ब्रजभाषा के सिद्धस्त कवि थे। इनकी प्रकाशित रचनाओं में प्रेम पच्चीसी, कुसुमांजलि, कृषक क्रंदन, त्रिशूल तरंग, राष्ट्रीय मन्त्र आदि शामिल है।

John Stuart Mill was born on this day in 1806 in London, England. He was an English philosopher, economist, and exponent of utilitarianism. He was prominent as a publicist in the reforming age of the 19th century. He elaborated in detail on Utilitarianism in his book by the same name. He believed that the overarching goal of utilitarianism is to achieve the greatest-happiness principle: the “greatest good for the greatest number as the result of human action”.
In his “Essay on Social Freedom”, he said, and I quote: “Men do not desire merely to be rich, but to be richer than other men”.
It is also noteworthy that Mill also served as an employee of the East India Company from 1823 to 1858.

Honore de Balzac
Born on May 20th in 1799 in Tours in France, Balzac was a French literary artist who produced a vast number of novels and short stories collectively called La Comédie humaine (The Human Comedy). He helped to establish the traditional form of the novel and is generally considered to be one of the greatest novelists of all time. He helped establish the technique in which consequent and logically determined events are narrated by an all-seeing observer (the omniscient narrator) and characters are coherently presented.
In all his varied works, Balzac emerged as the supreme observer and chronicler of contemporary French society. These novels observe life from all spheres: the contrast between provincial and metropolitan; the commercial spheres of industrial enterprise; the worlds of art, literature, and high culture; romantic love; and the intricate social relations.

N T Rama Rao Jr.
Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Jr. or popularly known as NTR Jr. was born on this day in 1983 in Hyderabad, the then Andhra Pradesh.
He is an Indian film actor, Kuchipudi dancer, playback singer and television personality known for his works in Telugu cinema.
In 1996, he starred as a child artist in Ramayanam, which won the National Film Award for Best Children’s Film for that year.
His debut as an adult was in 2000 with the film “Ninnu Choodalani”.
He has received two state Nandi Awards, and two Filmfare Best Telugu Actor Awards. He received critical reception for his performance in works such as Student No.1 (2001), Aadi (2002), Simhadri (2003), Yamadonga (2007), Brindavanam (2010 film) (2010), Temper (2015), Nannaku Prematho (2016), Janatha Garage (2016) and Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava (2018).
And who can forget the S. S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus “RRR” (2022), which became a global phenomenon, earning him Pan-India fame and universal recognition, becoming one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever. In the movie, NTR Jr. played the role of Komaram Bheem, a Gond tribal leader from Telangana who fought against the Nizam of Hyderabad for the liberation of Hyderabad State / Fake Akhtar
The song “Naatu Naatu” won the Oscar for Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards, making it the first song from an Indian film, as well as the first from an Asian film, to win in this category. The win made RRR the first and only Indian feature film to win an Academy Award.
The film became the third Indian film and first Telugu film to receive nominations at the Golden Globe Awards, including Best Foreign Language Film, and won Best Original Song for “Naatu Naatu”, making it the first Indian (as well as the first Asian) nominee to win the award.

सुमित्रानंदन पंत
आज हिन्दी साहित्य में छायावादी युग के चार स्तंभों में से एक सुमित्रानंदन पंत की जयंती है। सुमित्रानंदन पंत नये युग के प्रवर्तक के रूप में आधुनिक हिन्दी साहित्य में उदित हुए। सुमित्रानंदन पंत ऐसे साहित्यकारों में गिने जाते हैं, जिनका प्रकृति चित्रण समकालीन कवियों में सबसे बेहतरीन था। प्रयाग में उच्च शिक्षा के दौरान 1921 के असहयोग आंदोलन में महात्मा गाँधी के बहिष्कार के आह्वान पर उन्होंने महाविद्यालय छोड़ दिया और हिंदी, संस्कृत, बांग्ला और अँग्रेज़ी भाषा-साहित्य के स्वाध्याय में लग गए। उनका रचनाकाल 1916 से 1977 तक लगभग 60 वर्षों तक विस्तृत है। उनकी काव्य-यात्रा के तीन चरण देखे जाते हैं। 1916-35 का पहला चरण छायावादी काव्य का है जिस दौरान ‘वीणा’, ‘ग्रंथि’ प्रकाशित हुए। कविताओं के अतिरिक्त उन्होंने नाटक, उपन्यास, निबंध और अनुवाद में भी योगदान किया है। उनकी प्रमुख रचनाएँ हैं- वीणा, पल्लव, चिदंबरा, युगवाणी, लोकायतन, युगपथ, स्वर्णकिरण, कला और बूढ़ा चाँद आदि हैं।
पद्मभूषण, ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार और साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कारों से नवाजे जा चुके पंत की रचनाओं में समाज के यथार्थ के साथ-साथ प्रकृति और मनुष्य की सत्ता के बीच टकराव भी होता था। वो अक्सर मनुष्य की तुलना प्रकृति से करते थे। जैसे एक साक्षात्कार में उन्होंने स्त्री तुलना फूल से की।

पीरू सिंह शेखावत (जयंती)
आज भारतीय सेना के वीर अमर शहीदों में एक पीरू सिंह शेखावत की जयंती है। कश्मीर घाटी के युद्ध में सक्रिय रूप से जूझते हुए उन्होंने पीरकांती और लेडीगनी ठिकानों पर अपनी फ़तेह हासिल की थी। वर्ष 1948 में दारापारी के युद्ध में पीरू सिंह ने वीरगति प्राप्त की। उनकी वीरता और बलिदान के लिए उन्हें मरणोपरांत भारत के सर्वोच्च सैनिक सम्मान “परमवीर चक्र” से सम्मानित किया गया था।

आज अभिनेता नाना पलसीकर की जयंती है। जिन्होंने 126 से अधिक हिंदी फिल्मों में काम किया। उन्होंने 1935 की फिल्म “धुवंधर” से अपने करियर की शुरुआत की थी। इन्होंने 1960 में आई फिल्म कानून, 1964 की शहर और सपना और 1982 में फिल्म गांधी में काम किया। एक जून 1984 को मुंबई में इनका निधन हो गया। पलसीकर को 1962 और 1965 में दो बार सर्वश्रेष्ठ सहायक अभिनेता के लिए फिल्मफेयर पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।
