Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that under Operation Sindoor, nine terrorist camps were destroyed and a large number of terrorists were killed. Speaking at the National Quality Conclave in New Delhi today, Mr Singh congratulated country’s armed forces for their action, courage and valour they displayed.

Sital Sasthi, a grand festival of Western Odisha marking the holy marriage of Lord Shiva with his consort Devi Parvati, is celebrated towards the end of summer every year. According to the Hindu calendar, it falls on the Jyestha Suklapaksha Sasthi tithi. Our correspondent reports that this year, the historic Sital Sasthi Yatra will be held with pomp and grandeur on June 1.
The festival was started about 400 years ago after the Chauhan King Raja Baliar Singh invited some Brahmins from Puri to reside in Sambalpur. The Brahmins brought this tradition to the western Odisha culture. The marriage was first held at the Somnath Baba temple of Balibandha. In time, the festival gained immense popularity and was later started in several other neighbourhoods. On the Akshaya Tritiya tithi, the thala utha ritual marks the beginning of the festival. Each temple committee selects from a horde of applicants the family that it decides is best suited to host the mother goddess as a daughter. Engagement occurs through ritual Patarpendi when the saptarshis or seven people representing the seven Rishis walk to the bride’s house and complete the negotiation process by presenting the family with Sargi leaves. The marriage happens on the day of Sasthi, when the lord visit the house of Parvati in a giant procession. The groom stays in the bride’s house for a day after which the Gods return to their temple. The baraat, as well as the homecoming procession, is a spectacle to behold. People throng the city to witness the carnival. The festival also marks the congregation of thousands of artists from different parts of the state and serves as a platform for them to showcase their talent. The procession also comprises colourful tableaus modelled on contemporary and mythological subjects. The festival also marks the onset of rains, and the people are blessed with showers on the homecoming day of the Gods almost every year. Bismita Padhan from Sambalpur.

वेव्स के तहत एनिमेशन श्रेणी में पहला पुरस्कार जीतने वाली रायपुर की इस टीम के सदस्य शुभ्रांशु सिंह ने आकाशवाणी समाचार से बातचीत करते हुए बताया कि देशभर के करीब एक हजार प्रतिभागियों के बीच हुई प्रतियोगिता के बाद उनकी टीम ने प्रथम स्थान हासिल किया है।
शुभ्रांशु का कहना है कि देश के रचनात्मक लोगों के लिए वेव्स, उम्मीद और अपेक्षा से भी बड़ा प्लेटफॉर्म साबित हुआ है।

Marine biodiversity takes the spotlight on May 15 with a conference dedicated to the complex interrelations within our oceans. Experts will share insights on the richness of underwater life and the urgent need to preserve it. Another evocative exhibition, “Faces of the Ocean”, opens on May 16 and runs till June 1, portraying the intimate human-ocean relationship through portraits and stories.
The festival also introduces short, meditative sessions titled “Zen Time”— designed to foster a sensory connection with the marine world. Set to the soothing sounds of Tidal Echoes, these sessions are scheduled on May 17 and May 31. Evenings on May 16 and May 31 promise special screenings under the theme “Oceans”. Films like “Becoming Cousteau” and “Les Gardiennes de la planète” invite viewers to experience the ocean through the lens of explorers and guardians who have dedicated their lives to its protection. आज भारत के प्रसिद्ध इतिहासकार देवीप्रसाद चट्टोपाध्याय की पुण्यतिथि है। वे एक जानेमाने मार्क्सवादी दार्शनिक भी थे। उन्होंने प्राचीन भारतीय दर्शन में भौतिकवादी संस्कृति की गवेषणा में महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया था। प्राचीन भारतीय विज्ञान के इतिहास तथा प्राचीन भारत में वैज्ञानिक विधि के विषय में उनके कार्य भी बहुत महत्त्वपूर्ण हैं, विशेष रूप से प्राचीन भारत के चिकित्सा शास्त्रियों चरक तथा सुश्रुत पर उनका अनुसंधान कार्य उच्च कोटि का है। भारत सरकार द्वारा उन्हें ‘पद्म भूषण’ से सम्मानित किया गया था।
Debiprasad Chattopadhyaya (19 November 1918 – 8 May 1993) was an Indian Marxist philosopher. He is known for Lokayata: A Study in Ancient Indian Materialism, which is his exposition of the philosophy of Lokayata. He is also known for work on history of science and scientific method in ancient India, especially his 1977 book Science and Society in Ancient India on the ancient physicians Charaka and Sushruta. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian honour, posthumously, in 1998.

आज भारत के मशहूर ध्रुपद गायक ज़िया फ़रीदुद्दीन डागर की पुण्यतिथि है। उन्होंने संगीत की शिक्षा अपने पिता उस्ताद ज़ियाउद्दीन खान साहब से ली थी। पिता ने उन्हें ध्रुपद गायन और वीणा वादन में प्रशिक्षित किया। पिता की मृत्यु के बाद उन्होंने अपने बड़े भाई से संगीत की शिक्षा ली। उस्ताद ज़िया फ़रीदुद्दीन डागर उस परिवार से हैं जिसने 19 पीढिय़ों तक ध्रुपद गायकी को आगे बढ़ाया।
मध्य प्रदेश सरकार द्वारा उन्हें तानसेन सम्मान और 1994 में संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया
He taught at the Dhrupad Kendra in Bhopal with his elder brother Zia Mohiuddin Dagar. He also taught as a visiting professor up to the time of the Babri mosque riots. After the riots, he decided to live at the gurukul of his brother Zia Mohiuddin Dagar.

आज भारत की प्रसिद्ध ठुमरी गायिका गिरिजा देवी की जयंती है। उन्हें ‘ठुमरी की रानी’ कहा जाता है। वे बनारस घराने से सम्बन्धित थीं। उनका जन्म कला और संस्कृति की प्राचीन नगरी वाराणसी में हुआ था। गिरिजा देवी के प्रारम्भिक संगीत गुरु पण्डित सरयू प्रसाद मिश्र थे। नौ वर्ष की आयु में पण्डित श्रीचन्द्र मिश्र से उन्होंने संगीत की विभिन्न शैलियों की शिक्षा प्राप्त की। इस अल्प आयु में ही एक हिन्दी फ़िल्म ‘याद रहे’ में गिरिजा ने अभिनय भी किया था। 1949 में गिरिजा देवी ने अपना पहला प्रदर्शन इलाहाबाद के आकाशवाणी केन्द्र से किया।उनकी ठुमरी, कजरी और चैती में बनारस का ख़ास लहज़ा और विशुद्धता का पुट उनके गायन में विशेष आकर्षण पैदा करता है।
गायकी के क्षेत्र में उनके उल्लेखनीय योगदान के लिए उन्हें ‘पद्मश्री, पद्मभूषण और संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया।
