I am sure listeners must have heard about Raja Ravi Varma. Raja Ravi Verma of Kerala was perhaps the first great modern painter in India. He evolved a national style of painting by combining various regional elements like costumes, jewellery and facial features. His paintings, which mostly depicted mythological themes, became very popular not only in India but abroad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his greetings to the citizens of Himachal Pradesh on the occasion of Himachal Diwas. In a social media post, Mr. Modi wrote that the state is renowned for its glorious culture and its people are known for their hard work, talent and valor. He also wished for the happiness, prosperity and health in the lives of all of its citizens on the special occasion.
15 अप्रैल को हिमाचल दिवस मनाया जाता है। ये 1948 में हिमाचल प्रदेश के एक राज्य के रूप में स्थापना की याद दिलाता है। इस गठन में चंबा, मंडी, सिरमौर और महलोग सहित 30 रियासतों का भारतीय संघ में विलय शामिल था। श्रोताओं, क्या आप जानते हैं कि “हिमाचल” नाम संस्कृत के शब्दों ‘हिमा’ (बर्फ) और ‘अंचल’ (गोद) से आया है, जिसका अर्थ है “बर्फ की गोद में।”
हिमाचल दिवस के अवसर पर राज्यस्तरीय समारोह चम्बा जिले की जनजातीय पांगी घाटी के मुख्यालय किलाड़ में आयोजित किया गया जिसकी अध्यक्षता मुख्यमंत्री सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू ने की। हिमाचल के इतिहास में पहली बार राज्यस्तरीय हिमाचल दिवस समारोह का आयोजन चम्बा जिले की दुर्गम लेकिन मनोरम पांगी घाटी के किलाड़ क्षेत्र में किया गया। मुख्यमंत्री ने हिमाचल को राज्य का दर्जा दिलाने के लिए पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री इंदिरा गांधी और प्रदेश के पहले मुख्यमंत्री डॉ. वाई.एस.परमार को याद किया। मुख्यमंत्री ने राष्ट्रीय ध्वज फहराया और परेड की सलामी ली। अपने सम्बोधन में मुख्यमंत्री ने प्रदेश वासियों को हिमाचल दिवस की शुभकामनाएं देते हुए कहा कि अपनी स्थापना बाद से हिमाचल ने हर क्षेत्र में उल्लेखनीय प्रगति की है और ये प्रदेश लगातार विकास के पथ पर अग्रसर है। इस मौके पर मुख्यमंत्री ने प्रदेश के कर्मचारियों को 3 फीसदी महंगाई भत्ते की अतिरिक्त किश्त जून महीने में जारी करने की घोषणा की। उन्होंने कहा कि पिछले दो सालों में राज्य सरकार ने 14 फीसदी महंगाई भत्ते की किश्त जारी की है। मुख्यमंत्री ने पांगी घाटी की महिलाओं को इंदिरा गांधी प्यारी बहना सुख-सम्मान निधि योजना के तहत अप्रैल, मई व जून महीने की तीन किश्तें एक साथ जारी करने सहित पांगी घाटी के लिए अनेक घोषणाएं की। मुख्यमंत्री ने साच को सब तहसील बनाने का ऐलान भी किया। मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि तिंदी से शोर तक बिजली लाईन को दुरूस्त करने के लिए 5 करोड़ रूपए का प्रावधान किया जाएगा और शोर से किलाड़ तक बिजली लाईन बिछाने के लिए 45 करोड़ रूपए दिए जाएंगे। सुखविंदर सिंह सुक्खू ने पांगी घाटी के सभी किसानों को जौ की प्राकृतिक खेती के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया और उनसे 60 रूपए प्रति किलो की दर से जौ खरीदने की घोषणा की। मुख्यमंत्री ने कहा कि पांगी में प्रदेश का पहला प्राकृतिक खेती सब डिविजन खोला जाएगा। इसी तरह प्रदेश के अन्य जिला मुख्यालयों पर भी हिमाचल दिवस समारोह का आयोजन किया गया। निश्चित तौर पर हिमाचल का 77 वर्षों का इतिहास गौरवमयी रहा है और यहां के लोग आज भी अपनी प्राचीन परम्परा को संजोए रखे हैं। परिक्रमा के लिए आकाशवाणी शिमला से मैं प्रभा शर्मा।

In the heart of Goa, an ancient and mysterious tradition unfolds each spring. It’s called Chorotsav, a festival like no other, filled with drama, history, and deep-rooted repentance. Let’s go to the village of Zarme in Mauxi, where this age-old ritual is an experience of awe and wonder.
“As the full moon rises over the Western Ghats, the quiet village of Zarme transforms into a stage of solemn remembrance and dramatic reenactment. Chorotsav, a festival observed during Shigmo—the Goan equivalent of Holi—is a unique tradition that draws villagers back to their ancestral roots. Legend has it that many years ago, a tragic misunderstanding led to the death of some young men who were mistaken for robbers—or Chors. Overcome with grief and fear of divine retribution, the villagers devised a ritual of atonement—one that continues to this day. In the heart of the village, in front of the sacred Saptamatrika temple, the ritual begins. Eight young men, the chosen ‘Chors,’ undergo an intense and somewhat eerie transformation. In a highly coordinated act, four of them are buried in the ground with only their heads visible, while the other four are inverted—heads buried, swords in hand, their bodies dramatically exposed above the surface. The air is thick with anticipation as the drumbeats fall silent, and the Chors are revealed, sending ripples of excitement through the gathered crowd. Meanwhile, in Caranzol, another village known for this ritual, the spectacle is even more elaborate. Here, seven Chors are buried, while one is raised on a spear, and another lies on a platform, adorned with a garland of leaves. This hauntingly theatrical event unfolds under the watchful eyes of an eager audience at the Kuldevta temple, beginning with an invocation near a sacred banyan tree. Despite the element of danger, the festival is deeply revered. It is more than just a dramatic performance—it is a symbol of repentance, a tribute to the past, and a testament to the villagers’ resilience. Regular attendees insist that Chorotsav is an experience that must be seen to be believed, an unforgettable moment in the rhythm of Goa’s cultural landscape.”

The visually impaired young girl Roohi Jan born in South Kashmir’s Yaripora Kulgam district, has been excelling in her studies while facing numerous unimaginable difficulties. And now, she has achieved feat in her career while securing appointment in Kashmir’s highest seat of learning i.e Kashmir University, after clearing all requisite phases of selection process.
“Roohi Jan in her late 20s despite her natural disability, has traversed difficult path to reach Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Delhi and completed her PhD degree besides other examinations for eligibility to secure career as a teacher in higher education. She has mastered Braille medium to pursue education and covering the first phase of her career. Recently, she has been appointed Assistant Professor in Department of Education at University of Kashmir. Talking to PARIKRAMA, Roohi Jan shared her joy and happiness:

Mizoram today joined the world community in celebrating World Art Day 2025. The auspicious occasion held at the DIPR’s Lianchhiari Run at Treasury Square in Aizawl witnessed the esteemed presence of Chief Minister Lalduhoma along with a galaxy of artists, both from Mizoram and outside. The observance was held under the aegis of International Association of Art (IAA) India and Government of Mizoram.
Talking about the seminar’s theme “Rich Folk Culture of the Resilient Mizos”, Chief Minister Lalduhoma said that it encapsulates the essence of the Mizo heritage and identity.
Manaj Saha, President of IAA India said said the abundance of sculptures in Mizoram dating back to 18th century and monumental villages in Champhai District has a huge potential in the eco-tourism sector. He said that IAA India will render its unstinting support for declaration of heritage sites in Mizoram as “World Heritage Site” by UNESCO. Renowned artist Sunil Deore and many more, both from Mizoram and outside joined the historic celebration.

The benchmark domestic equity indices today surged over two per cent amid positive global cues following temporary tariff relief on electronic goods by the US and hopes for additional tariff exemptions for auto sector. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, surged 1,578 points to close at 76,735. The National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 rose 500 points to settle at 23,329. In the global crude market, Brent Crude was trading over 0.4 percent down at 64 dollars and 59 cents per barrel, and WTI Crude was also trading half percent down at 61 dollars and 22 cents per barrel, when reports last came in. In the Indian bullion market, 24-karat gold was trading up at 93,470 rupees per 10 grams, and silver 999 fine was also trading up at 95,340 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.

Hasrat Jaipuri, born Iqbal Hussain, was born in 1922. He was an Indian poet who wrote in the Hindi and Urdu languages. He was also a renowned film lyricist in Hindi films, where he won the Filmfare Awards for Best Lyricist twice – in 1966 and 1972. Jaipuri was born Iqbal Husain in Jaipur, where he studied English till medium level and then acquired his taalim (education) in Urdu and Persian from his maternal grandfather, the poet Fida Husain 'Fida'. He began writing verses when he was around twenty years old. Around the same time, he fell in love with a girl from the neighbourhood named Radha. In an interview later in his life, Hasrat talked about a love letter he wrote to this girl, that love knows no religion. It is unknown whether the love letter was delivered to Radha. However, veteran film producer Raj Kapoor liked it enough to include it in his Sangam (1964 Hindi film), and the song became a ‘hit’ song in India.

Christopher Alvin Stapleton was born on this day in 1978. He is an American country singer-songwriter and guitarist. Born in Kentucky, Stapleton moved to Nashville in 1996 to study for an engineering degree at Vanderbilt University but dropped out to pursue a career in music. Shortly after, he signed a contract with Sea Gayle Music to write and publish his music. Let’s listen to his hit track “Tennessee Whiskey,” which is from the 2015 album “Traveller.”
