Sikkim is set to celebrate its rich cultural heritage on a grand scale as the Culture Department, Government of Sikkim, has officially announced the KUZU Cultural Festival 2025 as part of the state’s 50 years of statehood celebrations. The festival will take place from May 1 to May 10, 2025, and promises a vibrant display of diverse traditions, art, and cuisine.
“According to Deputy Director Deeki Ethenpa, multiple states from across India have already confirmed their participation in this cultural extravaganza. Adding to the international appeal, France, Nepal, and Bhutan will also be part of the festivities. One of the key highlights of the event will be a French Film Festival, offering audiences a taste of French cinema. Meanwhile, Nepal and Bhutan will present their cultural traditions, art, and cuisine, further enriching the festival’s multicultural essence. In a celebration of Sikkim’s own heritage, 21 ethnic communities from the state will take part in a grand carnival parade, showcasing their traditional attire, music, and dance forms.”

दार्जिलिंग के पद्मजा नायडु जुलोजिकल पार्क में भारत का पहला फ्रोजेन जू स्थापित किया गया। विगत सप्ताह हैदराबाद आधारित सेन्टर फर सेलुलर एण्ड मलिकुलर बायोलोजी संस्थान तथा दार्जिलिंग पद्मजा नायडु जुलोजिकल पार्क के संयुक्त तत्वावधान में इस फ्रोजेन जू को स्थापित किया गया।
“इस फ्रोजेन जू में हिमालयी क्षेत्र में पाए जानेवाले दुर्लभ प्रजाति के जानवरों के डी.एन.ए, स्पर्म, अण्डे व इम्ब्रायो को संरक्षित किया जाएगा। आरम्भ में इस फ्रोजेन जू अर्थात बर्फभरा जू में विशेष कर हिमालय में पाए जानेवाले दुर्लभ जानवर रेड पाण्डा के डीएनए, सपर्म, स्टेमसेल सहित जेनेटिक मेटेरियलको को नाइट्रोन से भरा स्टीलके कन्टेनर के अन्दर माइनस 196 डिग्री सेल्सियस के तापमान में संरक्षित किया जाएगा। इस कन्टेनर को माइनस 20 डिग्री सेल्सियस के तापमान में रखा जाएगा। इससे रेड पाण्डा प्रजाति के डीएनए, सपर्म व स्टेमसेल सहित जेनेटिक पदार्थों को हजारों वर्षों तक संरक्षित रखा जा सकता है, जिससे इस दुर्लभ प्राणी के प्रजनन व नस्ल को पर्यावरण व जलवायु अनुरूप विकसित किया जा सकता है। तथा इसे विलुप्त होने से बचाया जा सकता है। देश का सबसे उँच्चे स्थान पर व समुन्द्र तल से करीब 7 हजार 50 फीट की उँचाई पर अवस्थित तथा 67.8 एकड़ में फैला इस दार्जिलिंग चिड़िया घर को हिमालयी क्षेत्र में पाए जानेवाले दुर्लभ प्रजाति जैसे रेड पाण्डा, हिम चिता, तिब्बती भेडिया, मारखोर, मिसमी तकिन तथा काला हिरण आदि के प्रजाति को संरक्षित करने के लिए विकसित किया जा रहा है। स्मरण रहे विश्व में कूल एक दर्जन के करीब फ्रोजेन जू हैं जिनका लक्ष्य विभिन्न जीवजन्तुओं का संरक्षण करना तथा संसार से विलुप्त होने के कगार पर पहुँचे जीवजन्तुओं को बिलुप्त होने से बचाना है। इस अवसर पर दार्जिलिंग जू के निदेशक डा.वासभराज एस.हेलियाची ने कहा कि आनेवाले समय में इस फ्रोजेन जू में हिम चिता, काला हिरन, तिब्बती भेड़िया आदि के डी.एन.ए, स्पर्म, अण्डे व इम्ब्रायो को संरक्षित करने का काम किया जाएगा। यह जू बड़ी संख्या में देश विदेश के पर्यटकों को भी दार्जिलिंग आकर्षित करेगा। परिक्रमा के लिए अशोक चौरसिया, आकाशवाणी, कर्सियांग।”

Ladakh is inching towards becoming the first TB free Union Territory in India. The Union Territory Administration is working hard putting all the efforts despite the geographical challenges and harsh winter to achieve the success of first TB Free UT.
In Ladakh, 73 Panchayats out of 96 of Leh district have been declared as TB free Panchayat under the TB Mukt Panchayat Abhiyaan and these achievements have been recognized by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Government of India. Chief Medical Officer, Leh in a recent event organized on the eve of World TB Day stated that the department is working day and night to achieve the target of 100 percent TB Free Ladakh. Many steps have been taken in this regard including the intensifying the testing of TB patients, door to door visits and free treatment to the TB patients. Department is also conducting various awareness programmes to generate the awareness and sensitize the people about the disease. Speaking with Parikarma, Ms. Deachen Spalzes, State Programme Officer, National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme, Ladakh said that
“Ladakh was awarded with the best performing states and Union Territories under TB Mukt Panchayat category. Out of 98 Panchayat in Kargil district, 40 Panchayats have been declared TB Free for the year 2024. The award ceremony took place recently at Vighyan Bhavan, New Delhi. The benchmark domestic equity indices ended the last trading day of Financial Year 2024-25 with modest losses amid weak global cues. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, dropped 192 points, to close at 77,415. The National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 lost 73 points, to settle at 23,519. In the global crude market, Brent Crude was trading nearly flat at 73 dollars and 97 cents per barrel, and WTI Crude was also trading nearly flat at 69 dollars and 85 cents per barrel, when reports last came in. In the Indian bullion market, 24-karat gold was trading up at 89,120 rupees per 10 grams, and silver 999 fine was also trading up at 101,750 rupees per kilogram, when reports last came in.

Vuppaladadiyam Nagayya Sarma (28 March 1904 – 30 December 1973), popularly known as Chittoor Nagayya actor, singer, music composer, and director known for his works in Telugu cinema, Tamil cinema, and Telugu theatre. Nagayya was one of the first multilingual filmmakers in India. In 1965, he became the first South Indian actor to receive the Padma Shri in Arts for his contributions to Indian cinema.
