Ordnance Factory Day is celebrated on 18th March every year in India as a mark of establishing the first Ordnance Factory in India in 1801 in Cossipore, Kolkata.
Let us tell our avid listeners that, an Ordnance Factory is a government-run facility that manufactures arms, ammunition, and defense equipment for the Indian Armed Forces.

In 1787, a gunpowder factory was formed in Ishapore and a gun carriage factory was formed in Cossipore, Kolkata. Now it’s known as Gun and Shell Factory, Cossipore. After 1775, many Ordnance Factories were set up in India to support the growth of the defense equipment industry.

After more than nine months aboard the International Space Station (ISS), NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are set to return to Earth just before 22:00 GMT- the space agency confirmed. splashdown is likely to change depending on an assessment of weather and sea conditions before Dragon’s final de-orbit burn and re-entry to Earth’s atmosphere.

Boeing’s Starliner, their original return spacecraft, was deemed unsafe for the journey home, forcing the astronauts to stay in space much longer than planned. Williams and Wilmore have been in space since June 5, 2024, meaning they will have spent more than nine months in orbit by the time they return. After blasting off from Cape Canaveral, Florida, in June, they were originally scheduled to stay in space for just eight days.

Wilmore first flew to space in 2009 on board the Space Shuttle Atlantis. Before the Boeing Starliner mission, he had logged 178 days in space. He has served as a flight engineer and commander on previous ISS missions, conducting research on plant growth in space, the effects of microgravity on the human body, and environmental changes on Earth.

During the 25-hour flight to the ISS, Starliner experienced helium leaks and a malfunctioning thruster, which helps steer and control reentry. When it arrived on June 6, four more of the 28 thrusters failed, delaying docking with the station. Although engineers restored four out of five failed thrusters, NASA deemed the spacecraft too risky for human travel and sent it back empty, leaving Williams and Wilmore stranded on the ISS

During a news conference from space on March 4th , Williams said she will miss “everything” about being in space.“This has been Butch and my third flight to the International Space Station, I think just the fact that we’re living up here in this very unique place gives you an amazing perspective – not only (with the view) out the window, obviously, but also just on how to solve problems, and I don’t want to lose that spark of inspiration.”

Telangana
In Telangana, reservations for the Scheduled Castes will forthwith be made on the basis of three major groups within the community identified by the Telangana Government. The government has introduced the Telangana Scheduled Castes (Rationalisation of Reservations) Bill 2025 in the state Legislative Assembly. The assembly took up this Bill for Discussion today.
“Based on the essence of the Supreme Court’s Judgement given during August last year regarding the classification of Scheduled Castes for reservations, the Telangana state government has introduced the bill in the Assembly. Explaining the provisions, aim and background of the Bill, State Health Minister Damodara Rajanarasimha said, today is the historic day as the 4-decade old dream of depressed communities has come true. He informed the Assembly that the State Cabinet had approved the recommendations in toto of the One-man commission of Justice Shamim Akhthar, except one recommendation relating to creamy layer. Another Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, who headed the Cabinet Sub-Committee, said all parties have unanimously supported the SC categorisation. The Bill proposed three categories within the Scheduled Castes. As per the Ministers, the state has 59 communities of SCs with over 52 lakh population. As per their backwardness and population, the most backward 15 communities with over one lakh population will get 1 percent reservations as category-A, while the B category of 18 communities with 32 lakh population which benefitted moderately till now, will get 9 per cent reservations and remaining communities which get reasonably benefitted will now get 5 per cent reservation as Category C. The classification will come into force after the due administrative and constitutional process in the state.”

In Ladakh, the District Tobacco Control Cell , Kargil, under the Health Department Kargil, has made remarkable progress in implementing the National Tobacco Control Programme , significantly advancing the fight against tobacco use in the district.
“At a District-Level Advocacy Workshop held at the Tourist Facilitation Center, Bemathang, incharge District Tabaco Control Cell Kargil, Dr Fatima Nissa shared significant milestones in Kargil’s journey toward a tobacco-free society. 803 individuals availed tobacco cessation services. 1,806 individuals received follow-up counseling, reinforcing their journey toward quitting. 103 individuals successfully quit tobacco, demonstrating the program’s impact. 93 violators were fined under COTPA 2003, ensuring strict adherence to tobacco control laws. A total of ₹18,600 was collected in penalties. 233 educational institutions were officially declared Tobacco-Free Zones, ensuring a healthier environment for students. 532 professionals, including health experts, teachers, and enforcement officers, received specialized training on tobacco control measures and enforcement strategies. At the event, Chairman/CEC LAHDC Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffar Akhone, appreciated the dedication of DTCC Kargil and emphasized the critical role of the media, especially Akashvani Kargil, in raising awareness. He urged schools, parents, and local bodies to collaborate in making Kargil a tobacco-free society. With strong enforcement, community engagement, and continuous awareness programs, Kargil is steadily progressing towards a healthier, tobacco-free future, setting an example for other regions.”

- The benchmark domestic equity indices witnessed a significant surge today. Sensex jumped 1,131 points, or 1.53%, to close at 75,301 and the Nifty climbed 325 points, or 1.45%, to settle at 22,834.
- This marked the second consecutive session of strong gains for the benchmark indices. The rally was primarily driven by realty, automobiles, metals, and banks, which contributed significantly to the market’s gains.
- Global crude oil prices saw an uptick today. The Brent crude oil prices increased 99 cents, or 1.39%, to 72.06 dollars a barrel. US crude rose 99 cents, or 1.46%, to 68.57 dollars a barrel.

आज अभिनेता शशि कपूर जन्म- 18 मार्च) का जन्मदिवस है। वे ऐसे अभिनेताओं में शुमार किये जाते हैं, जिन्होंने अपने सदाबहार अभिनय से लगभग चार दशक तक हिन्दी सिनेमा पर राज किया। और लगभग 200 फ़िल्मों में काम किया। शशि कपूर को पहचान मिली साल 1965 में आई फिल्म ‘जब जब फूल खिले’ प्रदर्शित हुई। अस्सी के दशक में शशि कपूर ने फ़िल्म निर्माण के क्षेत्र में भी क़दम रखा और ‘जूनून’ फ़िल्म बनाई। इसके बाद उन्होंने ‘कलयुग’, ’36 चौरंगी लेन’, ‘विजेता’, ‘उत्सव’, और ‘रमन’ जैसी फ़िल्में बनाईं।

रत्ना पाठक एक भारतीय अभिनेत्री और टीवी कलाकार हैं। वह छोटे पर्दे पर माया सारा भाई के नाम से प्रसिद्ध हैं। रत्ना कई हिंदी फिल्मो में अपने अभिनय के लिए मुख्य रूप से जानी जाती हैं। रत्ना नें अपने करियर की शुरुआत फिल्म मंदी से की थीं। रत्न पाठक मिर्च मसाला, जाने तू या जाने न जाने, खूबसूरत जैसी फिल्मों के जाती हैं। वह एक मशहूर कॉमिक टीवी शो साराभाई v/s साराभाई का भी हिस्सा रह चुकीं हैं। गोलमाल 3, खूबसूरत, मिर्च मसाला, जाने तू या जाने ना, एक में और एक तू, द कॉफिन मेकर फिल्मों में भी इन्होंने काम किया।
