In the money-centric world, consumer’s rights could be compromised easily. In India, the origins of consumer protection can be traced back to ancient writings like Manu Smriti and Kautilya’s Arthashastra, which highlighted the importance of ethical trading and set forth penalties for fraud and adulteration. These principles established the basis for equity in trade. But since then, a lot has changed, both in terms of the consumer awareness as well as the market conditions. The contemporary phase of consumer protection commenced with the 1986 Consumer Protection Act (COPRA), which represented a major advancement by formalising consumer rights and establishing processes for addressing complaints.
In 2019, the Consumer Protection Act was updated to tackle new challenges, particularly in e-commerce.

In Bihar, the festival of colours, Holi is being celebrated with enthusiasm and people from all walks of society smearing colours and gulal to each other. The celebrations are filled with music and dance, with people enjoying and dancing to film songs and traditional folk tunes in many places. The Phag songs and Jogira dedicated to Holi with traditional musical instruments like Dhol and Manjeera are creating memorable moments of festivals of colour. More from our correspondent:
“In Bihar, most of the people are celebrating Holi with water and dry colours like soluble red, green soluble colors, Abir and Gulal, but in the some parts of the state revellers are enjoying the festival drenched in mud and water and smearing clay to each other. In some areas of Patna, Bhagalpur, Jamui, Munger, Kosi, Magadh and Shahabad, Kurta Fad Holi is also being celebrated where people clad in old shirts and attires play Holi and it culminates with tearing cloths of each other. Festival of the colour is also known for its traditional cuisines and food delicacies in Bihar, where children, young men and old people are relishing Pua, Thekua, Dahi Bada, Kachouri, and Gujhiya and other delicious sweets which are prepared at homes. The Kerala government is set to host a two-day art festival named ‘Varnapakittu’, meaning vibrant colours, aimed at promoting the creative talents of transgender persons.
“Varnapakittu, the festival showcasing the creative talents of transgender community, will be held in the State capital, Thiruvananthapuram on March 16th and 17th . The State Minister for Social Justice R Bindu explaining on the festival said that Kerala was one of the first State in the country to formulate and implement a policy for transgender persons. Varnapakittu was one such intervention for effective implementation of the policy. A revised transgender policy will be released at the venue of the Varnapakittu.In addition to the festival, a Transgender Crisis Intervention Center is also being planned in Ernakulam to function as a helpline and shelter, providing much-needed support. The ‘Varnapakittu’ festival will feature the debut performance of the ‘Ananyam’ art group, that was formed aiming to enhance public acceptance, boost self-esteem, and guide transgender individuals toward self-sufficiency. Cultural programmes by transgender persons from various districts will be held as part of the festival. Transgender persons who have made a name for themselves in various fields will be felicitated at Varnapakittu festival. वर्मा मलिक या बरकत राय मलिक आज के दिन पुण्यतिथि है। वे भारतीय सिनेमा में प्रसिद्ध गीतकार थे। वह पंजाबी और उर्दू के लेखक थे। उन्होंने पंजाबी फ़िल्मों से अपने कॅरियर की शुरुआत की थी। हंसराज बहल ने वर्मा मलिक को सबसे पहले पंजाबी फ़िल्म ‘लच्छी’ में गीत लिखने का काम दिया और देखते देखते वर्मा पंजाबी फ़िल्मों के हिट गीतकार बन गए। इसी समय उनके मित्रों ने उन्हें नाम बदलने की सलाह दी और बरकत राय मलिक, वर्मा मलिक के नाम से फ़िल्मी दुनिया में पहचाने जाने लगे। हंसराज बहल की निकटता में वर्मा ने संगीत की समझ भी विकसित की और यमला जट सहित तीन पंजाबी फ़िल्मों में संगीत भी दिया। बहुमुखी प्रतिभा के मालिक इस शख़्स ने करीब 40 पंजाबी फ़िल्मों में गीत लिखे, दो तीन फ़िल्मों के संवाद लिखे और तीन फ़िल्मों का निर्देशन भी किया। उनके प्रमुख गीतों में रेखा की पहली फ़िल्म ‘सावन भादों’ में वर्मा के लिखे इस गीत ने कई साल तक धूम मचाए रखी ‘कान में झुमका चाल में ठुमका कमर पे चोटी लटके हो गया दिल का पुर्जा पुर्जा लगे पचासी झटके’, हो तेरा रंग है नशीला अंग-अंग है नशीला’। यह गीत काफ़ी लोकप्रिय रहा। इसके बाद ‘पहचान’, ‘बेईमान’, ‘अनहोनी’, ‘धर्मा’, ‘कसौटी’, ‘विक्टोरिया न. 203’, ‘नागिन’, ‘चोरी मेरा काम’, ‘रोटी कपड़ा और मकान’, ‘संतान’, ‘एक से बढ़कर एक’, जैसी फ़िल्मों में गीत लिखें।

His dialogues in the film were highly praised, marking the beginning of his successful career in the Hindi film industry.He won his first Filmfare Award for Best Dialogue for Raj Khosla’s drama Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki (1978), which dealt with themes of love, sacrifice, and societal expectations. राही मासूम रज़ा का निधन 15 मार्च को हुई थी। वे बहुआयामी व्यक्तित्व के धनी और प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार थे। बी. आर. चोपड़ा द्वारा निर्मित प्रसिद्ध टीवी धारावाहिक महाभारत की पटकथा भी उन्होंने लिखी थी और 1979 में ‘मैं तुलसी तेरे आँगन की’ फ़िल्म के लिए फ़िल्म फ़ेयर सर्वश्रेष्ठ संवाद पुरस्कार भी जीता। उर्दू शायरी से अपनी रचना यात्रा आरंभ करने वाले राही मासूम रज़ा ने पहली कृति ‘छोटे आदमी की बड़ी कहानी’ लिखी थी, जो 1965 के भारत-पाक युद्ध में शहीद हुए वीर अब्दुल हमीद की जीवनी पर आधारित है।
