And, now time for our segment DATELINE INDIA in which we take a look at the developments taking place at national or global level. Today we will talk about the International Day for Preservation of the Ozone Layer
Today is the “International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer.” Life on Earth would not be possible without sunlight. But the energy emanating from the sun would be too much for life on Earth to thrive were it not for the ozone layer. Most ozone is found high in the atmosphere, between 10 and 40 km above the Earth’s surface. This region is known as the stratosphere, and it contains approximately 90 per cent of all ozone in the atmosphere. This stratospheric layer shields Earth from most of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation. Sunlight makes life possible, but the ozone layer makes life as we know it possible.
The day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of the ozone layer in protecting life on Earth. It has significantly depleted in recent years, and annually this day is commemorated to educate people more about how this is a concern. It also spreads awareness about the steps that have been taken to preserve the ozone layer.
ओजोन ऐसी गैस है जो भले ही बहुत कम मात्रा में पाई जाती हो, लेकिन पृथ्वी पर जीवन को बनाए रखने में अहम भूमिका निभाती है. ओजोन गैस की एक परत जो हमारे वायुमंडल में मौजूद है, हमें सूर्य की घातक अल्ट्रावायलेट किरणों के रेडिएशन से बचाती है.
संयुक्त राष्ट्र महासभा मॉन्ट्रियल प्रोटोकॉल को लाया था । ये एक अंतरराष्ट्रीय संधि है जो ओजोन परत को नुकसान पहुंचाने वाले पदार्थों के उत्पादन और उपयोग को कम करने के लिए बनाई गई है, इसे 1987 में अपनाया गया था, इस संधि का लक्ष्य ओजोन-क्षीणकारी रसायनों को कम करना और ओजोन परत को पुनर्निर्माण करना है, यह पर्यावरण संरक्षण के लिए एक महत्वपूर्ण वैश्विक समझौता है.
मॉन्ट्रियल प्रोटोकॉल का उद्देश्य ओजोन-घटाने वाले पदार्थों के निर्माण और खपत को चरणबद्ध करना था, लेकिन इन यौगिकों के कुछ विकल्प, जिन्हें हाइड्रोफ्लोरोकार्बन के रूप में जाना जाता है, अभी भी हानिकारक माने जाते थे। इसे ध्यान में रखते हुए मॉन्ट्रियल प्रोटोकॉल के सभी पक्ष 15 अक्टूबर 2016 को किगाली, रवांडा में अपनी 28वीं बैठक में हाइड्रोफ्लोरोकार्बन को चरणबद्ध तरीके से कम करने के लिए एक समझौते पर पहुंचे।
This year the theme of the Day is “Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action”. The aim is to not only celebrate the accomplishments but also look forward to deeper and faster action under the Montreal Protocol in the future. Effectively implementing the Montreal Protocol is crucial and deeply intertwined with our broader efforts to combat climate change.
India, as a Party to the Montreal Protocol since June 1992, has been successfully implementing the Montreal Protocol and its ozone-depleting substances phase-out projects and activities in line with the phase-out schedule of the Protocol. India has phased out Chlorofluorocarbons, Carbon tetrachloride, Halons, Methyl Bromide and Methyl Chloroform for controlled uses as on 1 January 2010, in line with the Montreal Protocol phase-out schedule. Currently, Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) are being phased out as per the accelerated schedule of the Montreal Protocol.
ओजोन परत पृथ्वी के वातावरण में स्थित है और सूर्य की हानिकारक UV किरणों को अवशोषित करती है, इसके बिना, ये किरणें सीधे पृथ्वी की सतह पर पहुंच सकती हैं, जिससे स्वास्थ्य समस्याएं जैसे त्वचा कैंसर और मोतियाबिंद हो सकते हैं, ओजोन परत पृथ्वी पर जीवन के लिए सुरक्षा कवच का काम करती है.
ओजोन परत को बचाने के लिए हमें ओजोन-क्षीणकारी पदार्थों का उपयोग कम करना चाहिए, जैसे CFCs और हैलोन, ऊर्जा की बचत करने वाले उत्पादों का उपयोग करें और recycling की आदत डालें, पर्यावरणीय नीतियों का पालन करें और हरित प्रौद्योगिकियों को अपनाएं, सामूहिक और व्यक्तिगत प्रयासों से हम ओजोन परत की रक्षा कर सकते हैं.
आज का दिन हमें ये याद दिलाता है कि ओजोन परत पृथ्वी पर जीवन के लिए कितनी जरूरी है. यह दिन हमें भावी पीढ़ियों के लिए इसे सुरक्षित रखने के लिए जलवायु से जुड़े कदम उठाने को प्रेरित करता है.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the much fervour in people is seen ahead of the Assembly Elections as poll process will be completed in three phases on September 18, September 25 and October 1 and votes shall be counted on 8th of October. Today being the last day for the election campaign for the phase one, candidates are busy in carrying forward their campaign in their respective areas. With only two days left for the first phase of assembly elections scheduled on September 18th, election campaigning by candidates of various political parties for 24 Assembly Constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir is in full swing. This time arround 5 lakh 66 thousand youth voters are elligible for casting their vote, the cumulative number of voters being about 23 lac 27 thousand in the Union Territory. The 16 Assembly Seats in Kashmir are spread in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama districts. Star campaigners of various political parties are busy in holding rallies and road shows in poll bound areas, leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters.
As Kulgam happens to be a Key Constituency in south Kashmir, a total of one lac 17 thousand 322 voters will decide the fate of 10 contesting candidates among which 58 thousand 477 are male and 58 thousand 845 are female voters.
The main candidates in the fray include CPIM leader and four time MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami who is the National Conference-Congress Alliance Candidate for this Constituency. The other candidates are former Raja Saba Member Nazir Ahmad Laway of Peoples Confrence, Mohammad Amin Dar of PDP and Jamate Islami backed independent candidate Sayar Ahmad Reshi.
Election Commission of India has set-up 134 Polling Stations with assured minimum facilities in the Constituency. Voters are very enthusiastic to cast their vote to elect their favorite representative for the Assembly. All necessary preparations have been finalised and adequate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure haste free conduct of elections. Onasadya’, is the traditional meal during the eve of Onam exclusively made with variety of vegetarian side dishes along with ‘Payasam’. A complete sadya includes a wide variety of dishes like banana, papad, dal, ghee, rice, sambar, avial, koottukari, pachadi, khichdi, paripu curry and two types of Payasam.This lavish meal is an integral part of onam and its making by the family members is part of the rich cultural tradition. This year record bookings of onasadya was witnessed in almost all areas of the State. Till the late 90s when the joint family system was predominantly residing in most parts of the state, the onam festival was celebrated with its original fervour.. However, as group family system slowly started disappearing and most nuclear families started residing in apartments and flats, Onasadya was readily available in catering units and hotels.As times changed, scenarios and life and culture has also changed drastically. The festival including onam has found new ways of expression and the market is also responding to its demand. The Asian Champions Trophy 2024 semifinal hockey match between India and South Korea is underway in Hulunbuir, China. India is leading 3-0 in the match started at 3:30 PM IST. Uttam Singh hit the first goal and Harmanpreet scored the second.
India is the only unbeaten team in the tournament. Having defeated China 3-0, Japan 5-1, Malaysia 8-1, Korea 3-1 and Pakistan 2-1, the reigning Asian Games Gold medallist is upbeat ahead of the Korea clash.
In the first semifinal of the Trophy, Pakistan loses to China 0-2 in the shootout. They drew 1-1 in regular time.

केसरबाई केरकर (पुण्यतिथि)
भारत की प्रसिद्ध शास्त्रीय गायिका थीं। वे जयपुर घराने के संस्थापक उस्ताद अल्लादिया ख़ाँ की शिष्या थीं। सिर्फ आठ साल की उम्र में ही केसरबाई केरकर ने संगीत की शिक्षा लेना और गाना शुरू कर दिया था।
उनका गीत जिसका शीर्षक है ‘जात कहाँ हो…’ को अंतरिक्ष यान वायजर 1 और वायजर 2 की मदद से अंतरिक्ष में भेजा गया है।
केसरबाई केरकर को कला क्षेत्र में भारत सरकार द्वारा सन 1969 में पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया गया था।

Madurai Shanmukhavadivu Subbulakshmi was born on this day in 1916. She was an Indian Carnatic singer. She was the first musician ever to be awarded the Bharat Ratna – India's highest civilian honour, the first Indian musician to receive the Ramon Magsaysay award in 1974 and the first Indian to perform at the United Nations General Assembly in 1966.

Gautam Rajadhyaksha was born on this day in 1950. He was one of India and leading fashion photographers, and was based in Mumbai, India. He was one of India and best known celebrity portraitists, having photographed almost all the icons of the Indian film industry. Having completed a diploma in advertising and public relations, Rajadhyaksha joined the photo services department of the advertising agency Lintas India Ltd (now Lowe Lintas), in 1974. He eventually became the head of his department. During his 15-year stint, he participated in the creation of milestone ad campaigns while pursuing his childhood passion for photography. His first encounter with fashion photography happened 1980. While he was still working for the Lintas, as a copywriter, Shobha De his cousin invited him to write for her magazine and Celebrity and soon after started shooting photographs for his articles, this got him attention and soon acclaim as a glamour photographer, and before long he started working for other magazines as well, including The Illustrated Weekly of India, and film magazines like Stardust, Cineblitz and Filmfare.
His 1997 released coffee table book, titled Faces, contained profiles of 45 film personalities. In 1992, he wrote his first screenplay, for the film, 'Bekhudi and which launched actress Kajol and career and his second, and Anjaam and presented, Madhuri Dixit with a challenging role. In 2000, he held his first ever photo-exhibition in Pune.
