शेफाली दुनियाभर में जब कोई त्योहार मनाया जाता है तो उस दिन एक खास तरह का खाना ज़रूर बनाया जाता है और एक खास तरह की ड्रैस पहनी जाती है तो उसी तरह ओणम के दिन भी एक खास तरह का व्यंजन बनाया जाता है। जिसे सध्या कहा जाता है। इसमें हर तरह के टेस्ट का खाना होता है, यानि की मीठा, नमकीन और खट्ठी चीज़ें।
उसी तरह आज के दिन लोग खास तरह के कपड़े पहनते हैं, इनमें मंडु और कासवु’ साड़ी शामिल होती है, मुंडु एक तरह की धोती होती है।
और अब बात करें कि ओणम कैसे मनाया जाता है तो ओणम के दस दिनों में विभिन्न प्रकार की पूजाएं की जाती हैं, जैसे एथम, चिथिरा, चोधी, विसाकम, अनिज़ाम, थ्रिकेता, मूलम, पूरादम, उथीरदम और अंतिम दिन थिरुवोणम पूजा होती है। आज के दिन लोग अपने घरों में रंग बिरंगे कालीन बिछाए जाते हैं। लोग एक दूसरे को नए कपड़े गिफ्ट करते हैं जिन्हें ओनाक्कोडी के नाम से जाना जाता है और लोग घरों में ऊंजल नाम के झूले भी लगाते हैं।

Sustainable Lifestyle Hands-on Workshop on SUP Alternatives for 30 schools held at Jorethang.
Forest and Environment Department under the Environment Education Programme funded by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India conducted a two-day hands-on skilling workshop on alternatives to Single Use Plastic for 150 students and teachers from 30 schools of Namchi, Gyalshing and Soreng Districts at Panchasheel Bhawan, Jorethang on September 13 and 14.
The workshop with fun learning hands-on activity focused on zero waste initiatives to promote circular economy. Activities included skilling on upcycling of plastic and other forms of wastes into usable creatives, making of decorative and usable arts from locally available natural resources in line with objectives of Mission LiFE – Lifestyle for Environment. The resource person for the workshop were from Sikkim Blossoms, a voluntary organization based in Gangtok and officers from State ENVIS/ EEP cell of the department. The students and teachers participated the event with great zeal and best school teams were also rewarded with hand-made bamboo crafts as prizes. The workshop also sensitized the participants on individual role towards climate action as a part of upcoming World Ozone Day (16 September), wherein an interactive quiz sessions were held towards the end with prizes to the winners.

उत्तराखण्ड में खिलाड़ियों को प्रोत्साहित करने के लिए विशेष प्रयास किए जा रहे हैं। स्कूली स्तर पर बच्चों को खेलों के प्रति आकर्षित करने के लिए छात्रवृत्ति देना हो या फिर राष्ट्रीय अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर राज्य का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाले खिलाड़ियों को सरकारी नौकरियों में आरक्षण देना हो, उत्तराखण्ड सरकार, खिलाड़ियों के हितों को ध्यान में रखते हुए राज्य में खेलों को बढ़ावा देने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध नज़र आ रही है।
विभिन्न खेलों में उत्तराखण्ड से अधिक से अधिक खिलाड़ियों के प्रतिनिधित्व को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए प्रदेश सरकार लगातार प्रयास कर रही है।
राज्य के खिलाड़ियों का खेल कौशल विकसित करने और उनकी खेल उपलब्धियों को बढ़ावा देने के लिए राज्य सरकार, मुख्यमंत्री उदीयमान खिलाड़ी उन्नयन योजना चला रही है। इस योजना के तहत हर जिले से खिलाड़ियों को उनकी दक्षता के आधार पर आठ वर्ष से चौदह वर्ष तक की आयु में 150 बालक और 150 बालिकाओं का चयन किया जाता है। चयन होने वाले खिलाड़ियों को हर महीने पन्द्रह सौ रुपए की छात्रवृत्ति दी जाती है।
इस बीच, क्रिकेट में राज्य के उभरते खिलाड़ियों को बेहतर मंच उपलब्ध कराने के लिए देहरादून में कल से उत्तराखण्ड प्रीमियर लीग की शुरूआत भी हो रही है। इस लीग में पुरूषों के साथ ही महिलाओं को भी अपनी प्रतिभा प्रदर्शित करने का मौका मिलेगा।
राज्य सरकार, राष्ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाले उत्तराखण्ड के खिलाड़ियों को प्रदेश की सरकारी सेवाओं में चार प्रतिशत आरक्षण भी दे रही है। इससे खेलों के प्रति युवाओं में रूचि बढ़ने की उम्मीद है।
गौरतलब है कि उत्तराखण्ड में इस वर्ष राष्ट्रीय खेलों का आयोजन किया जाना भी प्रस्तावित है। इसके लिए शासन-प्रशासन स्तर पर तैयारियां जारी हैं।

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has established a research group that is targetting over 1 Giga Ton in cumulative CO2 emission reduction by 2035. The key objective of this group is called the Energy Consortium . The group will develop technology sandboxes to de risking research and development in the energy sector which could be capital intensive.
The research group will become a pioneer in the many initiatives of reduction of carbon emission in the Country. It aims to achieve the savings by developing new and advanced technologies and advising the industry on energy efficiency measures. It comprises eight centres of excellence and has onboard ten major multinational and Indian companies as partners. The consortium is working with 20 universities and research institute partners including international institutes. The industries that are collaborating include Shell Baker Hughes, Cummins, FLSmidth, Adiyta Birla, Chevron , Infosys, Technip Energies , CPCL and NLC INDIA limited.

Today is the death anniversary of Richard Wright, an English keyboardist and songwriter who co-founded the progressive rock band Pink Floyd. He appeared on almost every Pink Floyd album and performed on all their tours. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 as a member of Pink Floyd. Wright’s jazz influences and distinctive keyboard playing were an important part of the Pink Floyd sound. he sang regularly in the band and took lead vocals on songs such as “Remember a Day”, “Time” and “Wearing the Inside Out”.

In 1936 he joined Disney Studios and quickly became one of the most important composers in the studio for animated short films including Ben and Me, and the Oscar-winning Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom. He also appeared in live action reference footage for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Walt Disney also had Wallace score full-length films for the studios for over 27 years. He started writing and orchestrating the score for Dumbo, for which he, together with Frank Churchill, won his first and only Oscar. Visvesvaraya is regarded in India as one of the foremost civil engineers whose birthday, 15 September, is celebrated every year as Engineer’s Day in India, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. He is also often regarded as “the maker of modern Mysore”. Visvesvaraya worked as a civil engineer for the government of British India and later as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Mysore. For his services to the Kingdom of Mysore and the Republic of India, he was awarded the Bharata Ratna by Government of India in 1955.

Today is the birth anniversary of Subedar and Honorary Captain Karam Singh PVC, MM, an Indian soldier and a recipient of the Param Vir Chakra (PVC), India’s highest award for gallantry. Singh joined the army in 1941, and took part in the Burma Campaign of World War II, receiving the Military Medal for his actions during the Battle of the Admin Box in 1944. He also fought in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947, and was awarded the PVC for his role in saving a forward post at Richhmar Gali, south of Tithwal. जोशना चिनप्पा (अंग्रेज़ी: Joshna Chinappa, जन्म- 15 सितंबर, 1986, चेन्नई) भारत की महिला स्क्वॉश खिलाड़ी हैं। 2003 में अंडर-19 की कैटेगरी में ब्रिटिश स्क्वॉश चैम्पियनशिप जीतने वाली वे प्रथम भारतीय महिला खिलाड़ी हैं। वे भारत की सबसे कम उम्र की राष्ट्रीय चैंपियन भी हैं। ग्लासगो में आयोजित 20वें कामनवेल्थ गेम्स में जोशना चिनप्पा और दीपिका पल्लीकल की जोड़ी ने 2 अगस्त, 2014 को स्क्वॉश में भारत के लिये स्वर्ण पदक जीतकर इतिहास रचा था।
