Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation 2 Naval Ships and one submarine in Mumbai today. For the first time, three vessels of the Indian Navy are scheduled to be commissioned simultaneously. Our correspondent reports that the commissioning of these naval combatants marks a significant leap forward in realizing India’s vision of becoming a global leader in defence manufacturing and maritime security. 

 

“The Prime Minister will dedicate naval ships INS Surat, INS Nilgiri, and submarine INS Vaghsheer to the nation during their commissioning at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. INS Surat, the fourth and final ship of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project, ranks among the largest and most sophisticated destroyers in the world. INS Nilgiri is the first ship of the P17A Stealth Frigate Project. INS Vaghsheer, the sixth and final submarine of the P75 Scorpene Project. It is one of the most silent and versatile diesel-electric submarines in the world. Equipped with modern aviation facilities, Nilgiri and Surat can operate a range of helicopters, including Chetak, ALH, Sea King, and the newly inducted MH-60R, during both day and night operations. These ships also include specific accommodations to support a sizable complement of women officers and sailors. All three platforms have been designed and constructed entirely at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited Mumbai. The 77th Army Day is being celebrated with great enthusiasm in Pune today. On the occasion, a grand parade has been organized at the Bombay Engineering Group ground. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is present on the occasion, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will attend the Gauravgatha programme in the evening. For the first time, an army parade is being held in Pune, with participation from the Army Police Corps and the women’s contingent of Maharashtra NCC.

 

Union Home Minister Amit Shah greeted the Army personnel and their family members on the occasion. In a social media post, he said, soldiers have earned the Indian Army a place among the best armies in the world with their indomitable valour and courage.

President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam has arrived in New Delhi for a five-day state visit to India. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Ministers, Members of Parliament and officials. This is his first visit to India as the President of Singapore.

President Tharman will hold discussions with President Droupadi Murmu. She will also host a banquet in his honour. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also meet with Mr Tharman. 

External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar will call on President Tharman today.

President Tharman will also visit Odisha from the 17th to the 18th of this month.

Our correspondent reports, India and Singapore have extensive cooperation based on a long tradition of friendship, trust, and mutual respect. President Tharman’s visit is expected to provide further momentum to bilateral relations between the two nations.

Language translation platform Bhashini is providing multilingual access at Mahakumbh in 11 languages. Its language translation ecosystem is helping those attending the world’s biggest spiritual conglomeration through the Digital Lost and Found Solution. People are registering lost or found items using voice in native languages. A real-time text or voice translation is being given for easy communication. There is multilingual chatbot for queries and kiosk navigation. The Mobile App and Kiosk Integration is  translating guidelines into local languages. It is also enabling seamless communication with officers. AI-powered, multilingual, voice-enabled chatbot KumbhSah’AI’yak is designed to assist millions of visitors during Maha Kumbh which is powered by cutting-edge AI technologies. Kumbh Sah’AI’yak aims to redefine pilgrim assistance by addressing their information and navigation needs while creating enduring memories of the Mahakumbh experience. Bhashini Mobile Application’s ‘CONVERSE’ feature facilitating seamless communication for the devotees with the unit of 112 emergency helpline of Uttar Pradesh Police deployed at the mega event. In South Africa, rescuers have pulled out 36 dead bodies and 82 survivors from an illegal gold mine during two days of rescue operations. Police said the rescue operations are underway as hundreds could still be underground but the exact number is unclear. The local authorities have said, all 82 survivors will be arrested under charges of illegal mining, trespassing and contravention of the immigration act charges.
In South Africa, illegal mining is rampant in commercially abandoned sites by unlicensed miners.

Dense fog and low visibility engulfed the Delhi-NCR today affecting the flight and rail operations. According to Indian Railways, 26 Delhi-bound trains have been delayed by up to four hours. These include the Gorakhdham Express, the Sampark Kranti Express, the Shram Shakti Express, the Mahabodhi Express, the Ayodhya Express, the Telangana Express, and the Gondwana Express. Meanwhile, several flights are also reported delay due to low visibility at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital. Coal import in the country dropped by over three per cent during April to October last year from over 154 million tonnes to over 149 million tonnes during the same period in the previous year. The Ministry of Coal said, India’s coal sector plays a critical role in supporting its rapidly growing economy. The Ministry said, the country faces a significant gap in meeting its coal demand from domestic reserves, particularly for coking coal and high-grade thermal coal, which are not adequately available.
