Poll Campaigning is in full swing in poll bound constituencies of the sixth and seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

         

Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi has alleged that the Congress is a dynastic party and it serves for the interest of only one family. Addressing a public meeting at Gandhi Maidan in Motihari, Bihar today, Mr. Modi claimed that the Congress party led I.N.D.I. Alliance will get a debacle in the Lok Sabha elections. He said, people will give befitting reply to those who are involved in corruption cases and anti India campaigns. Mr. Modi said, he is truly inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi on Satyagraha and Swacchagrah but Congress failed to fulfil the dreams of Bapu. He said, the idea to provide toilet to every household was inspired by Swacchagrah. He also highlighted the steps taken to provide electricity and gas connections to poor people.

                              

The Prime Minister said, the I.N.D.I. Alliance can not go hand in hand with aspirations of 21st Century and it is only the NDA which can fulfill these dreams. Mr Modi assured that in next five years, development works will be done at a faster pace with a decisive government at the Centre.

         

Addressing another public meeting at Ageya ground in Goreyakothi of Maharajganj parliamentary constituency, the Prime Minister alleged that I.N.D.I. Alliance is a communal, castiest and a dynastic alliance.

         

Senior BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary will address public meetings today in Bettiah, Sugauli and Raxaul.

         

RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav will hold public meetings in Ziradei, Motihari and Sheohar in support of Grand Alliance candidates.

Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi will address a political rally in Prayagraj this afternoon. Later, Mr Modi will interact with more than 25 thousand women in his  parliamentary constituency Varanasi. He will  attend the ‘Matri Shakti Sammlelan’ at Sampurnanand Sanskrit University. He will interact with the women, homemakers, doctors, teachers, business owners, advocates, and athletes  during the program. The Prime Minister will stay in Varanasi tonight and tomorrow he will address two more rallies in Uttar Pradesh.

   

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will address rallies in Balrampur, Siddharth Nagar, Sant Kabir Nagar Basti Varanasi and Azamgarh today. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will address political railies in Azamgarh and Bhadohi districts. Bahujan Samaj party Chief Mayawati will address a rally in Jaunpur district.

Campaigning has reached a crescendo for all seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. The polling in the city is scheduled on Saturday. Candidates and leaders from the BJP, AAP and Congress are engaged in hectic campaigning in different parts of the National Capital to woo the voters in their favour.

 

As the national capital reels under severe heatwave conditions, political temperature is also on the rise with less than three days left for campaigning. Political parties are leaving no stone unturned to attract voters through Roadshows, Public Meetings, and Door to Door campaigns. Social media is also being used effectively to set narratives in their favour by both ruling BJP at the Centre, and opposition AAP-Congress combine. BJP is continuously targeting AAP on the issue of alleged liquor scam and other irregularities at the same time the party is also putting its weight behind the issues of national security, abrogation of Article 370, as well as reservation on the basis of religion to target Congress. Alleged assault on AAP MP Swati Maliwal has also provided an issue to BJP to corner AAP. Price rise, Unemployment, alleged misuse of central agencies, alleged undermining of constitution are among the prominent issues being raised by AAP-Congress to attack BJP. BJP national president J P Nadda will hold a roadshow in Chandni Chowk area and will address a public meeting in Palam. AAP convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will hold a roadshow in North-East Delhi. Congress Delhi unit president Devender Yadav and other party leaders are also campaigning in different parts of the city.

In Bihar, one person was killed and two others injured today in a post poll violence under Telpa police station area in Chapra town under Saran Parliamentary constituency. Saran Superintendent Police Dr. Gaurav Mangla confirmed the incident. He said, groups of the RJD and BJP supporters clashed at Bhikhari Thakur Chowk area over issue of alleged rigging in 5th phase of polling held yesterday.

One of the historical parliamentary constituencies in Bihar, the Purvi Champaran segment will go to the polls in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections on 25th May along with seven other Lok Sabha constituencies. This is the land of Mahatma Gandhi where the famous Champaran Satyagrah took place against the British rule. In the 2024 Lok Sabha election there is direct fight between the NDA and Grand Alliance candidates for this seat. Our correspondent reports that more than 18 lakh voters will decide the electoral fate of 12 candidates. 

 

Purvi Champaran Lok Sabha seat is among much talked parliamentary constituencies in Bihar. Before delimitation the seat was known as Motihari and its nomenclature was changed in 2008. Sitting MP Radhamohan Singh who is representing this seat prior to delimitation is vying for his seventh term victory and hattrick from this Lok Sabha seat, is again in the battleground from BJP ticket. The Grand Alliance has fielded Dr. Rajesh Kumar from Vikas Sheel Insaan Party, against the BJP nominee. Radha Mohan Singh who was Union Agriculture Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi government is presenting his track record of development works to garner the support of voters. On the other hand, the Grand Alliance candidate is trying to encash the anti incumbency factor and soical equations for his victory.

         

The Purvi Champaran segment is famous for its sugar cane belt and sugar mills has a large agro based economy but the problems of  migration and unemployment are still a big reality in the area. Dharmendra Kumar Rai, Akashvani News, Patna.”

In our series covering profiles of key constituencies across States and Union Territories during the Lok Sabha elections, today we bring you a report on Tamluk parliamentary constituency in West Bengal.

Our correspondent reports that nine candidates including three Independents are fighting  for the seat:  

                              

Tamluk constituency will go to poll on 25th May under the 6th phase of General Election to the Lok Sabha 24. There are seven assembly segments in Tamluk and all  belong to Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal. The assembly segments are Tamluk, Panskura Purba, Moyna, Nandakumar, Mahishadal, Haldia and Nandigram.

         

There are eighteen lakhs fifty thousand plus voters in Tamluk Constituency.Tamluk constituency once held by freedom fighters Satish Chandra Samanta and Sushil Kumar Dhara from 1952 to 1980. Tamluk’s sitting MP is Trinamool Congress’s Dibyendu Adhikari. 

         

Trinamool Congress has fielded Debangshu Bhattacharya in this Lok Sabha election. BJP’s candidate is former Calcutta High Court Justice Shri Abhijit Gangopadhyay. Congress supported CPIM candidate is Sayan Banerjee. Kalyan Laha, Akashvani News Kolkata.”

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court today extended the judicial custody of former Deputy Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia till 31st May in a money laundering case linked to excise policy scam. The matter will now be heard on 31st of this month. Sisodia has been in judicial custody since February 26 last year after he was arrested by the CBI. Later, he was arrested by the ED.

Anti-Terrorism Day is being observed across the nation today. The day marks the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated on this day in 1991 by a suicide bomber of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam at Sriperumbudur, a village near Chennai. It is observed to educate people about the negative impact of terrorism and violence on society and the nation.

         

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tributes to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary today. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party leader Sonia Gandhi and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi paid floral tributes to the former Prime Minister at Veer Bhumi in New Delhi.

The national flag is flying half-mast throughout the country as one-day state mourning is being observed today as a mark of respect on the demise of Iranian President Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. The President of Iran and Foreign Minister were killed in a helicopter crash.

The Presidential election will be held in Iran on June 28. IRNA reported that the election date was determined in a meeting attended by Iran’s interim President Mohammad Mokhber and others. Earlier, the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed Vice President Mohammad Mokhber as the interim president.

India’s Ekta Bhyan secured gold medal with the season’s best throw of 20.12 metre in the women’ F51 club throw competition at the World Para Athletic Championships at Kobe in Japan today. While Kashish Lakra took the silver with an effort of 14.56 metre, Nadjet Boucherf of Algeria won the bronze with a score of 12.70 metre.

    

Deepthi,the Para Asian Games gold medallist, had smashed a world record time of 55.07 seconds in the women’s 400 metre T20 category race to win a gold medal yesterday.

       

The championships will continue till 25th of this month.

Indian junior men’s hockey team kicked off their Tour of Europe with a win over Belgium. India took the lead early in the game with vice-captain Shardanand Tiwari firing in a penalty stroke. The second quarter saw the vice-captain complete his brace to double the team’s lead with yet another penalty stroke.

Belgium converted a penalty corner early in the third quarter to reduce the goal deficit to one. With just a few minutes left in the game, the Belgians converted yet another penalty corner to equalize.

         

The fourth quarter ended with the scoreline reading 2-2 taking the game into a shootout.

         

India won the penalty shoot-out 4-2. The visitors will play their next match against Belgium tomorrow.

In the  IPL cricket, Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 1 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad today. The match will begin at 7:30 this evening.

         

The second Qualifier will be played between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the same venue tomorrow. The final match will be played on Sunday.
