In the aftermath of the Supreme Court verdict in the Tamil Nadu Bills case, President Droupadi Murmu has sent a reference to the Supreme Court asking the top court to consider whether timelines can be imposed on Governors to act on Bills in the absence of a constitutionally-prescribed time limit. Article 143(1) of the Constitution allows the President to seek the Supreme Court’s opinion in matters of legal and public importance. More from our correspondent :
“President Murmu has sent 14 pointed questions to the apex court for its opinion, while emphasizing that Articles 200 and 201 of the Constitution, which govern the process of assent to bills by Governors and the President, do not prescribe any deadlines or specific procedural requirements. The President asked the apex court to report its opinion on constitutional options available to a Governor when a Bill is presented to him under Article 200 of the Constitution of India. Further, it questioned if the exercise of constitutional discretion by the Governor on Bills is justiciable, when Article 361 of the Constitution puts an absolute bar to judicial review in relation to gubernatorial actions. President Murmu has questioned Supreme Court’s direction that there would be a deemed consent in case of failure to abide by the timeline set by it for grant assent to the bills. The reference states that the concept of a deemed assent of the President and the Governor is alien to the constitutional scheme and fundamental circumscribes the power of the President and the Governor. As we celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor, the Nation salutes the valour of the Indian Soldiers. As a tribute to the Armed Forces, Akashvani News brings in a special series. Today we remember, Param Vir Chakra awardee Captain Vikram Batra who made the supreme sacrifice during the Kargil War.
“During the Kargil War, Captain Batra’s unit was tasked with capturing Point 4875 a strategically important mountain peak in the Dras sub-sector. On the night of 7th July 1999, despite adverse weather conditions. Leading from the front, he rallied his men and pressed on the attack and achieved a near impossible military task in the face of heavy enemy fire. Captain Batra’s bravery led to India’s capture of Point 4875 but sadly he succumbed to his injuries. One of his radio message during the war, Yeh Dil Maange More later on became the catch-line for the Kargil War. The inspiring words reverberates even today.
Captain Vikram Batra’s bravery, camaraderie and devotion to his duty were extraordinary and find an exalted place in the annals of India’s military history. He was awarded India’s highest military decoration Param Vir Chakra posthumously. The Nation salutes his courage, valour and sacrifice. ANUPAM MISHRA, AKASHVANI NEWS, DELHI.”

Pakistan publicly pledges to combat terrorism, but continues to provide space and legitimacy to globally sanctioned terrorists. In a stark reminder of Pakistan’s deep-rooted nexus between politics and terrorism, Faisal Nadeem alias Abu Qatal and the nephew of 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, was recently seen addressing a rally organised by Pakistan Milli Muslim League, the political front of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Karachi. A US designated global terrorist Nadeem’s appearance shows that he is an active part of Pakistan’s political life under the banner of a party which has also been sanctioned by the US. A report:
“The mainstreaming of extremists and terrorists has long been a key feature of Pakistan’s polity. The active presence of designated terrorist Faisal Nadeem in Pakistan politics exposes Islamabad’s duplicity in acting against terrorism. There is a plethora of evidence already available in the public domain that proves terror organisations like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed are proxies of the Pakistani Army and the state. Recently, terror outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba and Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, both internationally designated terrorist organizations, joined hands with radical clerics in a pro-Pakistan Army rally held in Karachi is another example of Islamabad’s protection to Terror Outfits. Baloch nationalist leaders have declared independence from Pakistan, citing decades of violence, enforced disappearances, and human rights violations in the region. Social media was flooded with images of Balochistan’s proposed national flag and maps of an independent Baloch state, as ‘Republic of Balochistan’ trended widely across platforms. Prominent Baloch activist and writer Mir Yar Baloch said that people across Pakistan-occupied Balochistan have taken to the streets, voicing their demand for independence with mass protests and declaring that “Balochistan is not Pakistan.” In a social media post, Mr. Mir urged the international community and the United Nations, to recognize the “Democratic Republic of Balochistan” as a sovereign state. A report:
“The Baloch independence movement has deep historical roots, tracing back to 1947, when the princely state of Kalat briefly declared independence following the partition of British India. In 1948, it was forcibly annexed by Pakistan, a move that Baloch nationalists have never accepted. Activists, including Mir Yar Baloch, argue that the region’s vast natural resources, particularly gas and minerals, have been exploited by Islamabad, while the local population remains marginalized. Today, Balochistan remains Pakistan’s poorest and least developed province. “VISHNU PS, AKASHVANI NEWS, DELHI.”
