Both the Houses of Parliament witnessed noisy scenes on the first day of the second part of the Budget Session with the Lok Sabha facing adjournment till 12 noon following protests by DMK and Congress  over remarks of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on the implementation of the National Education Policy in Tamil Nadu.  In the Lok Sabha, when the House met this morning,  DMK  MP T Sumathy alias Thamizhachi Thangapandian, during the Question Hour,  raised the issue of alleged non-release of  funds related to the Centrally-sponsored scheme to Tamil Nadu. Responding to it, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan alleged that  DMK had agreed to sign an MoU with  the Central government over the  implementation of  the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme but later it back tracked.

 

He said even  Congress ruled states of Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh have signed MoUs to implement  the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The Minister  alleged that DMK is not committed to the welfare of students of Tamil Nadu and they are ruining their future.

 

When the House reassembled at 12 Noon, DMK MP Kanimozhi said, the Tamil Nadu government has an issue with the NEP and her party cannot accept the three language policy. Meanwhile the Minister clarified that he had not intended to insult anyone and he withdrew some words used by him.

Bhupendra,  As the second leg of the budget session of parliament resumed today, what update do you have?

 

In the Rajya Sabha, when the House met this morning, Deputy Chairman Harivansh disallowed the adjournment notices moved by the opposition parties over the issues of delimitation exercise in Southern States, alleged issuance of duplicate voter ID numbers and other issues. Congress, TMC, DMK and others raised slogans over the issuance of duplicate voter ID numbers. The Deputy Chairman urged the members to go back to their seats and allow the House to function. Later, Congress, TMC, DMK, Samajwadi Party and others staged a walkout over the issue. Leader of the House JP Nadda accused the opposition of adopting an irresponsible approach by staging a walk out from the House.

Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil has said that more than 80 per cent of rural households are getting tap water due to the Jal Jeevan Mission. Replying to a supplementary in Rajya Sabha, Mr Patil said, in 2019 only 16 per cent rural households had tap water connections.

 

Earlier, talking to media outside Parliament, Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil has said the water of Ganga is pure and not dirty.

Road Transport and Highways Minister, Nitin Gadkari, has said that production costs for goods can be reduced by improving the road network, ultimately benefiting both the industry and consumers. Addressing the 7th International Conference on Soaps, Detergents, and Cosmetics in New Delhi today, he stated that medium, small, and micro enterprises benefit from such advancements. Mr. Gadkari also called upon industries to focus on reducing production costs and enhancing quality.

In Madhya Pradesh, eight people died in a road accident in Sidhi district, while 13 others were injured. Some of the injured are in critical condition. According to the police, the accident occurred in the Kotwali police station area. The deceased include five women and three men. All the injured have been admitted to Sidhi District Hospital, while those seriously injured have been referred to Rewa Medical College for further treatment. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has expressed deep grief over the incident.

 

In another incident, Four labourers were killed and 13 others injured when a speeding truck overturned in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district in the early hours of this morning. The police said the incident took place in the Pishor Ghat section when the sugarcane-laden truck was traveling from Kannad to Pishor. The injured labourers were rushed to a hospital and are undergoing treatment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Mauritius on a two -day visit  tomorrow. Prime Minister will attend the ceremony to be held on National Day of Mauritius as the chief guest. Preparations are in full swing for the visit of Prime Minister Modi and for the National Day celebrations to be held on March 12.

 

Mauritius gained independence from the British rule on March 12, 1968.  National Day is celebrated in Mauritius on 12 March every year. After the year 2015, Prime Minister Modi is attending the National Day celebrations of Mauritius for the second time as the chief guest. Today, full dress rehearsal is taking place for the parade to be held on the occasion of National Day in Port Loise, the capital of Mauritius. A marching contingent from India  will participate in the national-day celebrations of Mauritius.  Besides a ship of the Indian Navy is also reaching Mauritius on this occasion.  The Akash Ganga Sky Diving Team of the Indian Air Force will also participate on national day celebrations. India has imposed an anti-dumping duty of up to 986 US dollars per tonne for five years on a chemical, used for water treatment, imported from China and Japan to protect the domestic industry from cheap inbound shipments. The Ministry of Finance in its notification said that the decision has been taken following recommendations from the Directorate General of Trade Remedies, an investigation arm of the Ministry of Commerce, to impose the duty on ‘Trichloro isocyanuric acid’.

India and the 27-nation European Union (EU) will start the tenth round of negotiations for a proposed free trade agreement in Brussels today. The talks are expected to focus on resolving remaining issues so that the agreement can be finalised by the end of this year.

 

During the recent visit of EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maros Sefcovic, the two sides have discussed ways to accelerate efforts towards a balanced and mutually beneficial trade pact. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen last month agreed to conclude the ambitious India-EU free trade deal by this year amid fears of the Trump administration’s threat of higher tariffs.

Prime Minister of New Zealand Christopher Luxon will be on a five-day visit to India from the 16th of this month. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, senior officials, business leaders, media representatives, and members of the Indian diaspora community. The External Affairs Ministry said in a statement that during the visit, Prime Minister Luxon will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, covering various aspects of India-New Zealand relations.

 

He will also attend the inaugural session of the 10th Raisina Dialogue 2025 as the Chief Guest and deliver the keynote address. Mr. Luxon will also call on President Droupadi Murmu.

Saudi Arabia is set to host talks tomorrow between the United States and Ukraine Jeddah to resolve the three-year old conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The meeting will be held after an argument erupted during Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s February 28 visit to the White House. President Zelensky will meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman today, after which his team will stay for a meeting with the American team.

 

The US State Department said that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will fly to Jeddah today. Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry said the kingdom will continue to pursue a lasting peace to end the Ukrainian crisis.

In Women’s Premier League (WPL) cricket, Mumbai Indians will take on Gujarat Giants at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai this evening. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM IST. Both Mumbai and Gujarat have already secured a spot in the playoffs, along with Delhi Capitals. However, today’s match is crucial as it could determine the first finalist of the tournament.

 

Delhi Capitals currently leads the points table with 10 points, while Gujarat and Mumbai have 8 points each. However, Gujarat holds the second position due to a superior net run rate.

 

Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru and UP Warriorz have already been eliminated from the tournament.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan and Muzaffarabad today.

 

The met department has also said that there will be a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by three to four degree Celsius over plains of Northwest India during next 3-4 days.
