Prime Minister Narendra Modi today highlighted the country’s potential as an investment destination in the mobility sector while emphasizing on government support, green technology, and the ‘Make in India’ initiative. Mr Modi was speaking after inaugurating six-day Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The Prime Minister asserted India’s automobile sector is witnessing an unprecedented transformation, driven by the aspirations of the people of the country. 

 

The Prime Minister pointed out that India is focusing on the development of Green Technology, Electric Vehicle, Hydrogen Fuel and Biofuels. He emphasized that the country stands as an outstanding destination for every investor looking to shape their future in the mobility sector.

 

Highlighting the expansion of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo this year, Mr Modi noted that more than 800 exhibitors participated and over 1.5 lakh people visited the expo last year.

The Prime Minister also reviewed the pavilions showcasing innovations and advancements in the automotive and mobility sector at the expo.

The theme of Bharat Mobility Global Expo is Beyond Boundaries: Co-creating Future Automotive Value Chain. The entry to the Bharat Mobility Global Expo is free for all visitors from 19th to 22nd of this month.

President Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Sports Awards 2024 at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi today. World Chess Champion D. Gukesh, double medalist at the Paris Olympics Manu Bhaker, Men’s Hockey Team Captain Harmanpreet Singh, and gold medalist at the Paris Paralympics Praveen Kumar were honoured with the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. The award is given for the spectacular and most outstanding performance in the field of sports by a sportsperson over the past four years.

Para-Shooting coach Subhash Rana, Shooting coach Deepali Deshpande, Hockey coach Sandeep Sangwan, Badminton coach S Muralidharan and Football coach Armando Agnelo Colaco were presented Dronacharya Award.  The Arjuna Award was given to 32 Sportspersons. 

National Sports Awardees have expressed their joy on being conferred with prestigious awards. Talking to media, one of the Arjuna Awardees, Para-shooter Mona Agarwal said, she is proud to receive this honour.

The United States opened its consulate at Bengaluru in Karnataka today, marking a significant step in enhancing diplomatic ties between India and US. The inauguration ceremony was attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and US Ambassador Eric Garcetti. Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Jaishankar said that a new US Consulate in Bengaluru is essential for expanding and deepening ties with the United States of America.

Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam reached Bhubaneswar this morning on a two-day visit to Odisha. State Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi welcomed the Singapore President at the Biju Patnaik International Airport. The President Shanmugaratnam’s visit assumes significance as it will be his first visit to the state ahead of the ‘Utkarsh Odisha: Make-in-Odisha Conclave’, scheduled on 28th and 29th of this month. He is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, Members of Parliament and officials. We have a report:

 

“Today President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam will attend the signing of the MoU seeking to extend cooperation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training to further enhance the skill development ecosystem, particularly for the semiconductor industry in Odisha. Another MoU will be signed between Industrial Development Corporation of Odisha and Sembcorp, Singapore. An agreement will be inked between the Bhubaneswar Development Authority and Surbana Jurong, Singapore for development of a new city. Pacts will also be signed for skill development in the semiconductor sector, also for a green hydrogen corridor and for developing the PetroChemical and Petroleum Investment Region during the visit of the Singapore President. Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan, is reviewing the Aspirational District Program in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand today. On the second day of his three-day visit, Mr. Murugan inspected the ITI Jagannathpur. He also visited the Kej Fisheries-Karanjia. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized that the country is moving rapidly towards achieving the goal of a developed India.

The filing of nominations for the election to 70-member Delhi Assembly will end this evening. Several candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, BJP, and Congress are going to file their nominations on the last day today. Monday is the last day for the withdrawal of candidature. 

BJP National President J P Nadda will release the party’s Sankalp Patra Part -1 this afternoon for the Delhi Assembly polls. Meanwhile, talking to media, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva hit out at Senior AAP leader and Delhi CM Atishi over her announcement of reinstatement of the scrapped excise policy previously in Delhi.

 

Meanwhile, Briefing media in New Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today demanded the Centre to provide 50 percent discount to students in metro fare. 

 

Addressing the media, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera claimed that BJP and Aam Aadmi Party have not done any work for the National capital.

Voting for Delhi assembly elections will be held on the 5th of next month, with the counting of votes scheduled to take place on 8th February.

In Maharashtra, at least nine persons lost their lives in a road accident on the Pune-Nashik Highway this morning. The mishap occurred when a tempo collided with a minivan, which then crashed into a stationary bus.

The Mumbai Police today took one person in custody in connection with an attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence. The suspect has been brought to the Bandra police station for further questioning. The actor was stabbed by an intruder at his residence in Bandra, late at night on Wednesday. Saif was taken to the Lilavati Hospital where he underwent surgery and is now out of danger. Talking to reporters today, Doctor Nitin Dange of Lilavati Hospital, said, the actor is recovering well and has been shifted out of the intensive care unit (ICU).

Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj :-

The government has made special arrangements to ensure better medical services for the devotees and pilgrims at the world’s largest spiritual gathering in the holy city. Prayagraj Mela Authority has set up a 100 bedded Central Hospital at Parade ground of Mahkumbh Mela area to cater to the healthcare needs of devotees. More from our correspondent.

 

“Apart from ensuring safety and security of devotees during the Mahakumbh 2025, the government has accorded high priority to medical services. In addition to Central hospital, two dedicated hospitals have also been set up in the Mela area to manage infectious diseases ensuring health and safety of pilgrims from India and abroad. Talking to Akashvani News, Nodal officer of the Central Hospital Dr Gaurav Dubey said that besides separate wards for men, women, and children, the Hospital is equipped with ICU and emergency facilities.

 

In different sectors of Mela, eight small hospitals with a capacity of 20 beds each are also functional. All the medical services provided in the hospitals are free of cost. Anand Kumar for Akashvani News, Prayagraj.”

Pakistan’s Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has been sentenced to 14 years in prison in a land corruption case related to the Al-Qadir Trust. His wife, Bushra Bibi, has been handed over seven-year jail term. The verdict in the 190 million pound Al-Qadir Trust case, the largest in terms of financial wrongdoing faced by the cricketer turned politician was delivered by an anti-graft court in a prison in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, where Imran Khan has been jailed since August 2023.

In Australian Open Tennis, star Indian player Rohan Bopanna along with his partner Zhang Shuai of China advanced to the second round of the Mixed Doubles event this morning. The Indo-Chinese duo defeated Ivan Dodig of Croatia and Kristina Mladenovic of France in the first round, 6-4, 6-4, in straight sets.
