Both the Houses of Parliament could not transact any substantive business on the fifth consecutive day today following the opposition’s continued ruckus over various issues including alleged bribery charges against a prominent business group and violence in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha have been adjourned for the day.

 

In the Lok Sabha, when the House reassembled after the first adjournment at 12 noon, the scene was no different as members from the Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK and others again trooped into the well raising slogans. Amid uproar, Union Minister for Shipping, Sarbananda Sonowal introduced the Coastal Shipping Bill 2024. The Presiding Officer rejected the adjournment notices given by the Opposition on different issues and appealed to the agitating members for order in the House but they didn’t pay heed. Later, the House was adjourned for the day. Earlier, as soon as the House met this morning, Opposition MPs were on their feet demanding discussion on issues including bribery charges against the business group, violence in Sambhal and the situation in Manipur. As the Opposition continued with their protest Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House till noon.

 

In the Rajya Sabha as well, similar scenes prevailed leading to adjournment, first till noon and then for the day.  In the morning, when the House met Mr Dhankhar rejected adjournment notices given by opposition MPs on alleged bribery charges against a prominent business group, violence in Sambhal, Law and Order situation in Manipur and Delhi and others. Members from the Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, Left, AAP and others created noisy scenes in the House. The Chairman urged the Members to allow the House to function. As the noisy scenes prevailed, he adjourned the house till 12 noon. Later, when the House assembled and the pandemonium continued over same issues, the Chairman adjourned the House for the day.

Union Minister Giriraj Singh today came down heavily on the Opposition for disrupting the Parliament. Talking to media outside Parliament, Mr. Singh accused the Congress and other opposition parties of not having faith in democracy. He also alleged that disruption is a wastage of people’s money.

 

On the other hand, senior Congress leader Manish Tewari said, the government should accept the adjournment motions of the opposition on various matters including on the alleged bribery charges against a prominent businessman.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi said that 96 Ships and Submarines will be inducted in the Indian Navy in the coming 10 years. He said, 62 ships and one submarine are under construction.  and efforts are being made to induct more ships and submarines in the Indian Navy as part of the self-reliant drive in the coming years. He was briefing the media in New Delhi today during the annual Navy Day press conference.

 

Admiral Tripathi expressed hope that the first nuclear-powered submarines will be inducted in the Indian Navy by the year 2036-2037. He said, acquisition process of three Scorpion submarines is also at an advanced stage. Speaking on the recent nuclear-capable missile test from INS Arighaat, Admiral Tripathi pointed out that India carried out a test of the missile and the launch was successful.

 

On the growing concerns of the Pakistan Navy’s ambitious naval projects, the Chief of Naval Staff said, many Pakistan Navy warships and submarines are being built with Chinese support.

 

The Navy Day will be celebrated at Puri in Odisha on Wednesday. President Droupadi Murmu will grace the occasion as Chief Guest.

Union Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has said the Narendra Modi Government is making the Health Sector Affordable and Accessible. Briefing media in New Delhi this morning, Dr Mandaviya said, there were 387 medical colleges in 2014, but in a decade it has been doubled to 780 medical colleges.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will watch the Hindi movie ‘The Sabarmati Report’ at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium at the Parliament Library Building today. The Film is based on the February 2002 Godhra Train Burning Incident in Gujarat.

 

Last month in a social media post, Mr Modi had said that it is good that this truth is coming out and that too in a way common people can see it. He had said, a fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out.

The total coal production from captive and commercial mines has reached over 112 million tonnes in the last eight month, marking a substantial increase of around 35 per cent in comparison to the same period last year. Union Coal Ministry said, in November this year alone, the total coal production from these mines was around 17 million tonnes. It said, the dispatch from these mines has also seen remarkable growth. As of November, the total dispatch from captive and commercial mines reached over 119 million tonnes, an increase of around 34 per cent in comparison to the same period last year.

The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) has witnessed tremendous growth of 45 per cent to over 29 billion dollar in April to September this year as compared to the same period last year. According to Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, the main sectors of the economy that benefited from the FDI include services, computer software and hardware, telecom, automobile, pharmaceuticals and chemicals.

The Governor of West Bengal Dr C V Ananda Bose today administered oath and affirmation to the six newly elected members of the Legislative Assembly today. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was also present on the occasion at the Bidhan Sabha in Kolkata. The six MLAs were elected in the recently held by-elections. All the MLAs are from Trinamool Congress.

Senior Indian Information Services officer Virendra Singh has passed away. He was 55. Singh breathed his last at a private hospital in New Delhi this morning. He was currently posted in News Services Division of Akashwani. Earlier, Virendra Singh had worked in DPR Defence and various other media wings of Information and Broadcasting Ministry.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees has suspended its aid operations through the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza following a series of armed robberies that have disrupted humanitarian assistance to the besieged territory. The decision comes after armed gangs seized an entire convoy of aid trucks on November 16, followed by another raid on food trucks on November 29. UNRWA officials cite multiple challenges hampering their humanitarian mission, including the ongoing siege of Gaza.

In Kerala, the Met Department has issued red alert in 5 districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. Orange alert is issued in 4 other districts. Hilly regions of the State are in high alert as there is a possibility of landslides and flash floods in the areas. Heavy rain is expected to persist till Wednesday across Kerala’s coast and till Thursday along the Lakshadweep coast. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has appealed to residents in landslide-prone and low-lying areas to move to safer locations during the daytime. People living in flood-prone areas are advised to relocate to relief camps set up by the authorities.
