Discussion is underway in both the Houses of Parliament on the Motion of Thanks on President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
Participating in the discussion in Lok Sabha, BJP MP Anurag Singh Thakur lauded the initiatives taken by the government in different sectors in the last ten years. He said, several steps have been taken by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the welfare of people and growth of the economy. He said, 25 crore people have been uplifted from poverty and the government has provided 80 crore people free food-grain under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. He said, four crore homes were built for the poor and 12 crore toilets were built.
The discussion is underway.
Earlier, when the House met, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of alleged irregularities in the NEET exam. He said, a message should be sent to the country, from Parliament on the NEET issue and it should be discussed in the House.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, Parliament proceedings are carried out based on rules and traditions. He said, any discussion should be done only after the Motion of thanks on the President’s address.
Later, Opposition members staged a walk out from the House over the NEET issue.
In the Rajya Sabha, Participating in the discussion, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said the address of the President lacked vision and direction.
The Chairman rejected Mr. Kharge’s comments saying criticism for the sake of criticism is not right. Mr. Kharge also raised the issue of vacancies in Railways saying over three lakh posts are vacant which should be filled. Responding to it, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, over five lakh people got jobs in the last ten years in the Railways which is much higher than as compared to the previous UPA regime. The discussion is underway.
Earlier, both the Houses congratulated the Indian Men’s Cricket Team for winning the T20 World Cup.

The three New Criminal Laws – Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, come into force from today.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the three criminal laws will lead to the most modern criminal justice system in the country. He said, the criminal justice system is now completely ‘swadeshi’ and embedded in Indian ethos after independence. Briefing media in New Delhi about the three criminal laws, Mr. Shah said the new laws will ensure speedy justice, and victims’ rights. He added that earlier, only the rights of the Police were protected but now, victims’ and complainants’ rights will also be protected.
The Home Minister said, the government has abolished the sedition law with new provisions against anti-national activities.
With the commencement of these three criminal laws, a program will be organized by the Officer-in-Charge of each police station in all States and Union Territories, highlighting the salient features of the new criminal laws.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed grief on the demise of Veteran Sri Lankan politician and Tamil National Alliance leader R Sampanthan. In a social media post, Mr Modi said, he will always cherish fond memories of meetings with him. He said, R Sampanthan relentlessly pursued a life of peace, security, equality, justice and dignity for the Tamil nationals of Sri Lanka.
Expressing grief, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar recalled many meetings and conversations with Mr Sampathan over several decades.

Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi today laid wreath at the National War Memorial in New Delhi and paid tribute to the brave jawans who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Talking to media, General Dwivedi said that it is a moment of great pride and honour for him to have received the opportunity to lead the Indian Army. He called for the modernisation of the army and said that the Army will encourage indigenous initiatives, systems and equipment for Aatmanirbharta. General Dwivedi also assured the citizens that the Indian Army is ready and capable to face all challenges.

The National Testing Agency – NTA today declared the revised result of one thousand 563 candidates after the NEET(UG) Re-Test. The NTA has also revised the rank of all Candidates after the new results. The NTA said in a release that the revised Score Cards of all Candidates are available on its website. It added that 813 Candidates appeared for the re-test, out of the one thousand 563 candidates eligible. Candidates can login to the website and access their respective revised Score Cards at the website “exams.nta.ac.in/NEET”.”.
The re-test was conducted on the 23rd of last month after the Supreme Court directed for a re-examination of the one thousand 563 candidates who were awarded grace or compensatory marks in the original examination. The Candidates were given the option to either appear for the re-test or continue with their original scores without the grace marks.

In Gujarat, the CBI has arrested the owner of a Private school in connection with the alleged malpractice in the NEET-UG examination. This school was one of the centres where the NEET-UG exam was held on May 5th.
The CBI team will produce the owner before the court in Ahmedabad to get the remand. With this, the total number of arrests in this case has gone up to 6. Earlier Gujarat Police had arrested five persons in connection with the case for demanding 10 lakh rupees from at least 27 candidates to help them clear the exam.

The BJP today hit out at the ruling Trinamool Congress, alleging that it is spreading hooliganism in West Bengal. Briefing media in New Delhi, party spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia alleged that TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee does not believe in the Constitution and its values. . He said, Like Sandeshkhali, the ugly face of Mamata’s rule is visible everywhere in West Bengal. Mr Bhatia said, the flogging and physical abuse of a man and woman at a public place in North Dinajpur is nothing but another display of misrule of TMC Government and an open violation of the values of Constitution in the state. He also questioned the silence of India block leaders on this issue.
BJP president J P Nadda also said that as horrific video has come to light from West Bengal, reminding of the brutalities that exist only in theocracies. In a social media post, Mr Nadda said, to make matters worse, the TMC cadre and MLAs are justifying the act. He said, be it Sandeshkhali, Uttar Dinajpur or many other places, Didi’s West Bengal is unsafe for women.

Oil marketing companies have reduced the prices of commercial LPG gas cylinders by 30 rupees. The price change for a 19 kilogram commercial LPG cylinder will come into effect from today onwards. Due to the drop in price, the retail sale price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi will be one thousand 646 rupees.
This follows a drop in price that was brought last month when the retail price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders was reduced by 69 rupees 50 paise in Delhi to one thousand 676 rupees.

In Women’s Cricket, the one off test match between India and South Africa is underway at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In their second innings on fourth day, visitors South Africa were 336 for 8 in 14.4 overs .
Earlier, India bowled out the Proteas for 266 in their first innings, forcing to face follow on. Spinner Sneh Rana scalped eight South African wickets, to become the third woman to bag an eight-fer in Test cricket.
Rana’s exceptional spell, along with Deepti Sharma’s two wicket haul bowled out the visitors for 266 in 84.3 overs.
