The oath taking of  several newly elected MPs was held today on the first day of the first session of 18th Lok Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is the leader of the Lok Sabha, was the first to take oath as the member of the House. Pro-tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab administered the oath to Mr. Modi. This was followed by the oath of the panel of chairperson appointed to assist Mr. Mahtab in running the proceedings of the Lok Sabha till the election of the Speaker. BJP MPs Radha Mohan Singh and Faggan Singh Kulaste took oath as the members of the Chairperson panel. However, Congress MP K Suresh, DMK MP TR Balu and Sudip Bandyopadhyay of TMC skipped the oath taking proceedings as the members of the panel. Later, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Manohar Lal, Piyush Goyal, Jitanram Manjhi, Rajiv Ranjan alias Lallan Singh, Dr Virendra Kumar, Kiren Rijiju, Chirag Paswan, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Annapurna Devi, and others took oath as the members of the Lok Sabha. Union Ministers  HD Kumaraswamy and Pralhad Joshi took oath in Kannada while Dharmendra Pradhan and  Jual Oram took oath in Odia language. Another Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took oath in Assamese, and Union Ministers K Ram Mohan Naidu, and G Kishan Reddy took oath in Telugu. Union Minister C R Patil took oath in Gujarati. Union Ministers Prataprao Jadhav administered oath in Marathi while Dr. Jitendra Singh in Dogri. Union Minister Suresh Gopi took oath in Malayalam while another Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar took oath in Bengali. Union Minister Durgadas Uikey took oath in Sanskrit.

 

Following the oath taken by the  Union Ministers as members of the House,  other  MPs took oath as per the alphabetical order of States and Union Territories.  The oath taking will continue tomorrow as well. 

 

India’s diverse multi-lingual and ethnic traditions were on display in Parliament today on the first day of 18th Lok Sabha.  Besides Hindi and English,  several MPs took oath in languages, including Telugu, Assamese, Bangla, Malayalam, Guajarati, Sanskrit, Kannada, Odia,  Maithli, Dogri and  Urdu. Several newly elected MPs came to Parliament with their family members and were seen clicking pictures. When Prime Minister Modi rose to take  the oath as the member of the Lok Sabha  there was loud chanting of Modi..Modi in the House and treasury bench members were on their feets. Opposition INDIA bloc members entered the Lok Sabha carrying copies of the Constitution. Sloganeering by some opposition members on  NEET  examination issues was also heard in the House on the first day of session today.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the session of 18th Lok Sabha is beginning today with the resolve of building Viksit Bharat and asserted that his government will make constant efforts to serve the country and fulfill the aspirations of the people by taking everyone together. Briefing media outside Parliament ahead of the session, Mr. Modi said:

                                

The Prime Minister said the people of the country expect good steps from the opposition and he expressed hope that the opposition will live up to their expectations to maintain the dignity of democracy.

The 18th Lok Sabha is a mix of experienced politicians and fresh faces. The diverse composition of the house includes former Chief Ministers, children of political leaders, sports stars, film personalities and retired experts. Our correspondent has filed the report.

 

From newcomers to political stalwarts, the 18th Lok Sabha promises to be a vibrant mix of youth and experience. Former Chief Ministers including Biplab Kumar Deb, Sarbananda Sonowal, Basavaraj Bommai, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Manohar Lal, H D Kumaraswamy, and Akhilesh Yadav are set to bring their extensive political expertise to the lower house. Joining them are the children of former Chief Ministers, including Gaurav Gogoi, Supriya Sule, Deepinder Singh Hooda, and Anurag Singh Thakur, and who are expected to provide fresh perspectives into the Parliament. Adding to the composition, the house will feature sports representation from former Indian cricketers Kirti Azad and Yusuf Pathan. Film personalities ranging from Bollywood to Tollywood including Kangna Ranaut, Hema Malini, Suresh Gopi, Manoj Tiwari, Ravi Kishan, Shatrughan Sinha, and Rachna Banerjee, are expected to play key roles in framing legislation. Apart from these, the inclusion of retired bureaucrats and experts from diverse fields will enrich the discourse with their specialized knowledge in the new Lok Sabha.”

Union Minister JP Nadda was appointed as Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha today. He succeeds Piyush Goyal, who is now a member of the Lok Sabha from Maharashtra’s North Mumbai. Mr Nadda was nominated by BJP to Rajya Sabha from Gujarat in February this year.

With a view  to manage the overall food security and to prevent hoarding and unscrupulous speculation, the Centre has  imposed stock limits on Wheat applicable to traders and wholesaler, retailers, big Chain retailers and processors for all States and Union Territories.

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda today launched the National STOP Diarrhoea Campaign 2024 at a function in New Delhi. He launched the campaign by distributing oral rehydration salts (ORS) and zinc tablets to children in presence of Minister of States for Health Anupriya Patel and Prataprao Jadhav. The two-month campaign will begin from 1st of July and continue till 31st of August.

The special CBI team from New Delhi has taken over the investigation of the case of alleged NEET UG examination paper leak scam from the Economic Offence Unit (EOU) of Bihar police. The CBI team reached this morning in Patna to take over the investigation of the case from the EOU which had constituted the SIT after getting clues of leakage of question paper. The investigation agency will also probe cases of malpractices and other offences which have been registered at Shastri Nagar Police Station in Patna.

 

The EOU had registered the case on 5th May this year on the day of NEET UG entrance examination after getting leads about the alleged paper leak scam.

         

After reaching Patna the CBI team visited EOU headquarters and met higher officials of the Bihar police. The Home Department Bihar has given consent to the Central agency in a Gazette notification to investigate and supervise the case related to the alleged irregularities in the NEET UG examination. By this the CBI team can visit any Part of police jurisdictional area in the state.The EOU has registered cases against 15 accused which includes the mastermind of the scam, members of organized criminal gang of paper leak and some suspected candidates who got question papers just day before the NEET UG examination.”

On the recent steps taken by the Union Education Ministry in connection with NEET-UG examination, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said that the Government is taking proactive measures to maintain the credibility of examinations in the country. Talking to Akashvani News, the UGC Chairman said that all stakeholders involved in conducting competitive examination are fully committed to protect the interests of students.

In Bihar, so far, 26 thousand police officials of Investigation Officer category have been trained for the implementation of three new criminal justice laws. Senior Bihar Police Officer and Director of Bihar Police Academy Bhrigu Shrinivasan informed today that Bihar police is fully geared up to implement the three new laws which will bring radical changes in the criminal justice system. Mr. Shrinivasan was addressing a day-long workshop organized by Press Information Bureau (PIB) Patna on the roll out of the three new laws.

 

The three new laws will come into effect from 1st of July this year.

In ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Cricket, India were 127 for 3 in 11.2 overs against Australia in their Super 8 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.         Earlier, Australia won the toss and chose to bowl. Team India already defeated Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the Super 8 group with ease. So a third straight win for India will not only make them the group toppers and send them to the semifinals, it will also substantially curb Australia’s chances of progressing through to the semis.

Russia’s Foreign Ministry has summoned the US ambassador over a missile strike in Crimea. It said that US-supplied ATACMS missiles were used in the attack and warned there would be consequences. The Moscow also said the US bears equal responsibility for a strike on Crimea.
