Hectic parleys are underway in New Delhi ahead of the formation of the new government at the Centre. As the National Democratic Alliance gears up to form the government, an NDA Parliamentary Party meeting will be held in the National Capital tomorrow. Newly elected Members of Parliament of the BJP, Telugu Desam Party, Janata Dal (United), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Shiv Sena (Shinde Faction), Janata Dal (Secular) and other constituent parties of NDA will attend the meeting. Meanwhile, leaders of the BJP and JD(U) are holding separate meetings in Delhi . More from our correspondent

 

Hectic parley is on ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of the NDA government in the national capital. BJP President J P Nadda and Union Minister Rajnath Singh have been given the responsibility to hold discussions with NDA partners over the cabinet formation. Today, Mr Nadda held a long meeting with senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers. Union Ministers Amit Shah,  Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goyal, Pralhad Joshi, Mansukh Mandaviya, and Ashwini Vaishnaw as well as BJP National General Secretaries Tarun Chugh and Vinod Tawde among others attended the meeting. Several JD(U) leaders also met party president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at his residence in New Delhi. JD(U) Parliamentary party meeting is also scheduled to be held tomorrow morning ahead of the NDA parliamentary party meeting. Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) President Chirag Paswan has rejected reports of him, along with other BJP allies, being approached by opposition leaders. He, however, alleged that the Opposition might be making such attempts as ideology does not matter to them. Mr Paswan said the NDA has got the mandate to make Mr Modi, the Prime Minister of the country for the third-time and no ally can disrespect it.

Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Nepal’s government spokesperson Rekha Sharma made the announcement after a cabinet meeting today.

 

During a telephone conversation, Prime Minister Dahal extended his best wishes to Prime Minister Modi on NDA’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections.

I.N.D.I.A bloc leaders held multiple meetings in the National Capital today to chalk out further strategies after Lok Sabha poll result. Trinamool Congress National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee and party leader Derek O’Brien met Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav at his residence in New Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha held a meeting with Shiv Shena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut.

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the stock market crash of the 4th of June. Addressing media at party headquarters in New Delhi, Mr Gandhi said the retail investors have lost 30 lakh crore rupees due to the market crash. The Congress leader sought to know why Prime Minister and Home Minister gave specific investment advice to the five crore families investing in the stock market.

 

Meanwhile, BJP refuted the claims made by the Congress. Briefing media in New Delhi, senior BJP leader Piyush Goyal alleged that Rahul Gandhi is trying to deceive market investors. Mr. Goyal claimed that people have gained even during the election results day. He further added that foreigners have incurred losses while Indian investors have benefited. He said that when the UPA government was in power 10 years ago, India’s market capital at that time was 67 lakh crore rupees and today the market capital has increased to 415 lakh crore rupees.

Several newly elected Members of Parliament have started arriving in Delhi. The Lok Sabha Secretariat have taken various steps, to welcome the Members of the 18th Lok Sabha. In a release, the Secretariat said to simplify the process the registration of the newly elected Members will be done through an online integrated software application. Special arrangements have also been made for simultaneous opening of SBI bank account, issuing of permanent Identity Card, Central Government Health Scheme Card to the newly elected Members on the spot. The Lok Sabha Secretariat has set up Guide posts at airports and railway stations in the National Capital. Transit accommodation is also being  provided to members in western court annex, hostel, State and Union Territory bhawans and guest houses. Software based computerized system has been designed for allotment of transit accommodation to members. While welcoming the Members, the Lok Sabha Secretariat is providing each Member with a set of publications relating to the Constitution of India, Rules, Directions and some other useful publications in hard copies. The Election Commission today said that overall, 65.79 percent voter turnout was recorded in the recently concluded General Elections. Lakshadweep recorded the highest voter turnout of 84.16 percent followed by Assam with 81.56 percent. Bihar recorded the lowest voter turnout at 56.19 percent.

The poll body also said that voter turnout of 63.88 percent was recorded in the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha polls.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan this evening. They submitted a copy of the Notification issued by the Election Commission, which contains the names of the Members elected to the Lok Sabha following the General Elections to the 18th Lok Sabha, to the President.

 

President Murmu congratulated the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commissioners on the successful completion of the electoral process.

 

Speaking to media after submitting the list to the President, the Chief Election Commissioner said, with this, the process for the formation of the 18th Lok Sabha has been completed from their side.

The poll panel today lifted the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) following the announcement of results of Lok Sabha polls. The Model Code of Conduct had come into force on the 16th of March with the announcement of Lok Sabha polls. However, the Model Code of Conduct is still in force in Graduates’ and Teachers’ Constituencies of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Telangana due to biennial/bye elections to the Legislative Council from Graduates’ and Teachers’ Constituencies.

In Odisha, the race for the first BJP Chief Minister is heating up with at least half-a-dozen names doing the rounds. Party leaders from the state including all the 20 newly elected Members of Parliament are camping in Delhi and are likely to meet the Central leaders tomorrow on the issue. The Central BJP leadership will take the opinion of the MPs and other leaders before taking a final call on the name of the new Chief Minister of Odisha in the parliamentary board meeting. Amid speculations over who would be the first BJP chief minister of Odisha,  the party’s parliamentary board is likely to take a call on this in two to three days. Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi during a number of election rallies in Odisha had said that the new BJP chief minister would take oath on 10th of June at Bhubaneswar. The front runners include six-time MP and former Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, National Vice  President Baijayant Panda, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and senior MLA Mohan Charan Majhi. The name of former Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and former Comptroller and Audit General of India Girish Chandra Murmu is also considered as a front runner for the coveted post. The Union Health Ministry held a review meeting today with States and Union Territories on preparedness on heatwave and measures to prevent hospital fires during summer months. The meeting, held virtually by Directorate General of Health Services, Dr Atul Goel, also discussed fire and electrical safety measures adopted by various health care facilities across the country. During the meeting, it was informed that the high-level officials of all States and Union Territories are monitoring the situation stringently. They have established an emergency response plan with Standard Operating Procedures for evacuating patients, staff, and visitors in the untoward event of a fire.

Union Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba also chaired a meeting of National Crisis Management Committee today to review preparedness to deal with heat wave and forest fires. During the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary requested the Chief Secretaries to regularly review and monitor the measures to ramp up preparedness to deal with heat waves. He emphasized that efforts to maintain and augment sources of water supply should be stepped up and fire safety audit of all institutions be ensured regularly.

Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and most parts of Bay of Bengal. Speaking to Akashvani News, the head of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune, K S Hosalikar said, light to moderate rainfall is likely over these regions during the next five days.

 

The IMD has also issued an orange alert for thunderstorms and moderate rain in several districts of Maharashtra, including, Thane, Raigad, Pune, Satara, Solapur, Beed and Ahmednagar districts for today.

Widespread rainfall accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning is also likely over North East region, West Bengal and Sikkim the during next five days. Rainfall and thunderstorms are likely at a few places over Northwest India till tomorrow.

On heatwave, the IMD said severe heat wave conditions will prevail in some parts over Uttar Pradesh till Monday. Heat wave conditions are very likely in Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar and Odisha till the next three to four days. Meanwhile, IMD has predicted dust storm and thunderstorm for the next two days in Delhi.

Domestic benchmark indices closed nearly one percent higher today. A report from the business desk: 

 

The Sensex gained 692 points, or 0.93 per cent to close at 75,075. Nifty advanced 201 points, or 0.89 per cent, to settle at 22,821. In the forex market, the Indian rupee ended at 83 rupees and 49 paise against the US dollar. In the Global Commodity Exchange, Gold, for 5th August contract, was trading at 72,809 rupees per 10 Grams. In Shooting, Sarabjot Singh clinched the gold medal in the Men’s 10m air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Munich, Germany today. He won the first medal for India in the tournament. The 22-year-old Indian defeated Bu Shuaihang of China in the final. Germany’s Robin Walter settled for the bronze medal.
