The Next Generation GST reforms have come into effect from today. Under the new tax structure, the indirect tax system has been simplified into a two-tier structure of 5 per cent and 18 per cent from a four-tier structure of 5, 12, 18 and 28 per cent. This will provide direct relief to the citizens by reducing tax on multiple goods and services. A report:

Under the next generation GST reforms, the government has introduced significant tax reductions across various sectors. Giving relief to housing and construction sector, the government has reduced GST on cement from 28 percent to 18 percent. This move will lower housing costs and provide a big push to schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and also creating jobs in mining, manufacturing, and logistics. To ease rural housing, the GST on job work for bricks has been cut from 12 percent  to 5 percent, benefitting MSMEs running brick kilns. Keeping middle class in mind, GST on Two-wheelers and small cars has also been reduced from 28 percent to 18 percent. The tax on two-wheelers with engines below 350cc has been slashed from 28 percent to 18 percent. Similarly, small cars will be taxed 18 percent under the new tax structure. People of Delhi are also welcoming this decision.

The initiative combines retrofitting of existing areas, redevelopment of specific zones, and city-wide smart solutions. Furthermore, schools are being equipped with digital classrooms, heritage sites are being rejuvenated, public spaces are being restored, and streets are becoming brighter and safer.
