Prime Minister Narendra Modi today visited the North Eastern states of Mizoram, Manipur and Assam to launch multiple development projects. These included a new rail line connecting the capital of Mizoram, Aizawl to the Indian Railway network for the first time. Addressing a public meeting in Churachandpur, Mr. Modi urged all organisations in Manipur to embark on the path to peace to fulfill their dreams.

 

Later in Imphal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Union Government has been continuously working to ensure peace and stability in Manipur. Mr. Modi also met Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) taking shelter at different relief camps in valley districts today at Imphal. He also inaugurated multiple projects including New Civil Secretariat, New Police Headquarters, Manipur Bhawans, IT-SEZ Building, Women Markets, Road Projects, Hostel, Eklavya Model Residential School and other infrastructure development projects worth one thousand two hundred crore rupees  . While addressing a public gathering after the inauguration of multiple development projects in historic Kangla Fort of Imphal, Mr. Modi said that the interests of the people must be safeguarded and that those forced to live in relief camps should be able to return to normal life.

 

He said that seven thousand new houses have been approved for displaced families due to the communal violence in the State and added that the Central Government has recently declared a special package of approximately  three thousand crore rupees for Manipur.

 

The Prime Minister virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various development projects worth over 9000 crore rupees at Aizawl in Mizoram. The projects are related to multiple sectors including Railways, Roadways, Energy and Sports among others. Mr Modi inaugurated the Bairabi-Sairang New Rail line, worth over eight thousand crore rupees, connecting the capital of Mizoram to the Indian Railways network for the first time. Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that India is the fastest growing major economy in the world and the North East is becoming the growth engine of the country.

 

 

Prime Minister paid tribute to Bhupen Hazarika at a centenary celebration in Guwahati this evening. He called Hazarika a symbol of unity and national integration. PM Modi said Hazarika’s music united people across India and guided them.

 

He also unveiled a 100 Rupee commemorative coin and released a biography of Hazarika in 21 languages. Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, Arunachal CM Pema Khandu, and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also attended the event.

At least 19 high school students were killed and more than 20 others injured in a Myanmar military airstrike at two private boarding schools in Kyauktaw township, in the western Rakhine state. The attack, according to the Arakan Army and relief agencies, struck late at night yesterday when students were sleeping. The two schools targeted were Pyinnyar Pan Khinn High School and A Myin Thit High School. Both are private institutions, with many students boarding on site. The age of the victims was reported to be between 15 and 21 years.

In Nepal, President Ramchandra Paudel has appealed to all parties to cooperate to successfully conduct the House of Representatives elections scheduled for 5th of March 2026. More from our correspondent:

 

“Prime Minister Sushila Karki today visited the National Trauma Centre and the Civil Service Hospital in Minbhawan to take stock of the youths who were injured during the recent Gen Z demonstrations. The injured requested PM Karki for the deadlock to end and hoped that the next generation won’t have to stage protests again. On the occasion, PM Karki expressed her commitment to make maximum efforts to bring about changes in the country’s situation. A total of 51 people died while over thousands sustained injuries during the two-day nationwide anti-corruption demonstrations including in the Kathmandu Valley. A  new office is being prepared for the Prime Minister in a new building of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The fire is still burning in the western part of the main building of Singha Durbar on the fifth day after the arson.Sweta singh/ kathmandu”

Back home, Three-day long International Conference- ‘Gyan Bharatam on Reclaiming India’s Knowledge Legacy through Manuscript Heritage’ organised in New Delhi, concluded today. Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed happiness over the success of the first international conference. Mr. Shah said that Gyan Bharatam Mission, has been started with the farsighted vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring India’s knowledge, science, research compiled in manuscripts, birch barks, Tamra Patra, stone inscriptions and records to the new generation.

On the occasion of Independence Day this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced from the ramparts of Red Fort the Next Generation of GST reforms by Diwali. His vision was realised on 3rd September with the GST Council reducing tax rates in many household goods to ease the life of common people. Today, we take a look at the reforms for  stationary items.

 

“Under the Next Generation GST Reforms, the government has taken an important step to ease the burden on students and families. Stationery items including note books, graph books, erasers, pencils, crayons, sharpeners, charts, maps, atlas and globe will be brought down to zero tax under the new structure. Items such as geometry boxes, colour boxes and pouches which previously fell under the 12 percent slab have now been reduced to 5 percent slab. Talking to Akashvani News, a student from Delhi has welcomed the government’s decision for introducing new GST reforms.

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has said that Viksit Bharat young dialogue leader is a true example of youth-led democracy turning vision into voice and voice into impact. Addressing the press conference on Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026 in New Delhi today, the Minister said that this is the only platform where young Indians can not only share their ideas but can also present it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Dr Mandaviya also announced the second edition of Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026.

 

The grand finale of Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026 will be held in New Delhi from the 10th to the 12th January next year.

In the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, Minakshi Hooda became the third Indian woman boxer to enter the final beating Mongolia’s Lutsaikhany Altantsetseg in the 48kg semifinals today.
