The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has registered a decisive victory in Delhi Assembly Election, returning to power after 27 years by defeating the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
The BJP won 48 seats in the 70-member legislative assembly, while the AAP bagged 22 seats. The third contender, Congress has been completely wiped out in the polls after failing to win even a single seat.
A party winning more than the halfway mark of 35 seats forms the government in the National Capital.
Prominent winners from BJP include, Parvesh Sahib Singh from New Delhi, Vijender Gupta from Rohini, Kapil Misra from Karawal Nagar, Tarvinder Singh Marwah from Jungpura, Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden, Arvinder Singh Lovely from Gandhi Nagar, Shikha Roy from Greater Kailash and Harish Khurana from Moti Nagar.
Prominent successful AAP candidates include, Atishi from Kalkaji, Som Dutt from Sadar Bazar, Gopal Rai in Babarpur, Virender Singh Kadian from Delhi Cantt, Kuldeep Kumar in Kondli seat, Jarnail Singh in Tilak Nagar seat, Imran Hussain in Ballimaran and Sahi Ram from Tughlakabad.
The notable faces who lost include, Senior AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bhardwaj and Durgesh Pathak, Avadh Ojha and Jitender Singh Shunty, Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit and BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Raaj Kumar Anand.
In the by-elections, BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan has won from the Milkipur assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh.
Chandirakumar VC of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(DMK) has won the bypoll in Erode (East) assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has thanked the people of Delhi for giving the mandate to the BJP in Delhi Assembly polls. Addressing party workers at party headquarters in the National Capital this evening, he emphasised that the country today is opting for a policy of contentment over appeasement. He asserted that the youth born in the 21st century will now see BJP’s good governance in Delhi for the first time.
The Prime Minister assured that after BJP’s victory, Delhi will witness world class urban infrastructure now. He said, today’s Delhi assembly poll results are indicative of the trust the country has in BJP’s double-engine government.
Hitting out at Aam Aadmi Party, the Prime Minister claimed that the anti graft party turned out to be corrupt. Mr Modi thanked Delhiites for imposing their trust on the party to take the national capital to newer heights.
Addressing the gathering, BJP president JP Nadda said, the results of Delhi assembly polls show that Prime Minister Narendra Modi resides in the hearts of Delhiites.

Israel has released 183 Palestinian prisoners as part of a broader exchange for Israeli hostages held in Gaza. Israel has begun releasing Palestinian prisoners after Hamas freed three Israeli hostages in fifth swap under Gaza cease-fire deal. The prisoners released today include individuals with various charges, from involvement in militant attacks to those arrested without trial since Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack.
The Israeli government, in a statement, acknowledged the release of the prisoners as part of an effort to continue the de-escalation process, though officials emphasized that the release of Palestinian prisoners should not be seen as an overall shift in Israel’s policy toward the Gaza Strip and Hamas.

Khel Mahakumbh, a celebration of sports and culture, is being organised in Sangam, Prayagraj. In the Indian Super League (ISL) Football, Hyderabad FC defeated Mohammedan SC by three goals to one at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad this evening.
The Hyderabad strikers showcased a dominant performance, finding the target in the 24th, 45th, and 90th minutes of the match. Mohammedan SC scored the only goal of the match in the 78th minute.
