The Budget session of Parliament will begin tomorrow. The session will begin with the address of President Droupadi Murmu to a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament.

 

“Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the Economic Survey when both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will assemble for a brief period after the President’s address. The Finance Minister will present the Union Budget-2025-26 on Saturday. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha will discuss the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address on Monday. 16 Bills including the Finance Bill 2025, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Railways (Amendment) Bill, 2024 will be brought for discussion and passage. The first part of the Budget session which will commence tomorrow will continue till the 13th of next month. The second leg of the Budget Session will be held from 10th March to 4th April 2025. Earlier, an all-party meeting convened ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament was held at the Parliament House complex today. During the meeting, the government sought cooperation from all political parties to ensure smooth functioning of the Parliament session. Speaking to the media after the meeting Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Kiren Rijiju said there are 16 bills and 19 businesses already listed in the House.

 

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said that his party will raise the issues of unemployment, inflation and the constitution. He also expressed concern over the Mahakumbh incident. He alleged that the Joint Parliamentary Committee report on the Waqf Amendment Bill was passed by the committee in haste. Echoing the same view, Samajwadi party MP Professor Ram Gopal Yadav said that inflation, unemployment and the tragic incident in Mahakumbh were raised during the all party meeting.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 this Saturday. The upcoming budget is anticipated to unveil the government’s economic priorities and fiscal strategies to deal with the pressing domestic and global challenges. The campaign for the 70-member Delhi Assembly is in full swing. Prominent leaders of major political parties are conducting public meetings, roadshows, and rallies to seek votes in favor of their party candidates. Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah today addressed public meetings in the Rohini and Wazirpur areas. Addressing a gathering in Rohini, Mr. Shah promised that two thousand five hundred rupees would be given to the women of the city if voted to power.

Addressing a rally in Krishnagar, BJP President J.P. Nadda alleged that AAP has created nothing but chaos over the last ten years. He added that they did not take advantage of any central government schemes and misled the people of Delhi. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attacked Mr. Kejriwal on issues including pollution in the Yamuna River, the alleged liquor scam, and others. Addressing a rally in the Badli area, Mr. Gandhi also accused the AAP Convenor of engaging in corruption during their tenure.

 

Meanwhile, AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal accused the Congress party of working with the BJP to ensure his party’s defeat in the assembly polls. Addressing the media, he urged Congress workers not to vote for the Congress party, claiming they are collaborating with the BJP.

A team of poll officials has reached the Kapurthala House, the official residence of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in the national capital this evening after it received a complaint about alleged cash distribution. One of the officials present there told media that a complaint of money distribution was received on the cVIGIL app of the Election Commission and a Flying Squad Team came for the enquiry. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has clarified that it has not ordered any such action and the matter is related to a complaint on cVIGIL app.

The Government today announced that India is all set to launch its own safe and secure indigenous Artificial intelligence (AI)model at an affordable cost. Briefing the media in New Delhi, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted that compared to global models costing 2.5 to 3 dollars per hour usage, India’s AI Model will cost less than 100 rupees per hour after 40 per cent government subsidy.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and DGP Prashant Kumar visited Sangam Ghat at Mahakumbh, Prayagraj today and inspected the incident area which claimed 30 lives yesterday. They also visited Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital where the injured are admitted. The tragic incident took place yesterday at the Akhada route near the Sangam. During the visit they assessed the situation and reviewed the security arrangements.

 

“The three-member judicial commission set up by the Uttar Pradesh government to find the reasons behind the Maha Kumbh incident will also visit Sangam Ghat tomorrow. The commission will investigate the cause and circumstances of the incident and recommend measures to prevent such incidents in the future. Talking to the media, Chief of the Judicial panel, Harsh Kumar said the commission will look into the entire matter and submit its report to the government.

Uttar Pradesh Government has said that no VIP movement will be allowed in the Mela area for the upcoming Amrit Snan on Vasant Panchami 3rd February at Mahakumbh. Talking to media, DIG Mahakumbh, Vaibhav Krishna said, the security forces are fully geared up for crowd management in the mela area.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah chaired a review meeting in New Delhi today on the implementation of the three new criminal laws in Gujarat. The meeting reviewed the implementation and present status of various new provisions related to police, jail, courts, prosecution and forensics in Gujarat.

In the meeting, Mr Shah said, the Gujarat government should ensure the implementation of the new criminal laws in all commissionerates by 30th April 2025, and across the entire state at the earliest.

Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth today presented awards to the best Marching Contingents and Tableaux of Republic Day Parade 2025 at Rashtriya Rangshala Camp in Delhi.

 

Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Contingent has bagged the Best Marching Contingent among Services. Delhi Police Marching Contingent was awarded Best Marching Contingent among CAPFs. The top three tableaux from the states are Uttar Pradesh, Tripura and Andhra Pradesh. The Defence Ministry said three panels of judges were constituted to assess the performance of Marching Contingents from the Services and Central Armed Police Forces and tableaux from various States and UTs.

Eight more hostages including three Israeli and five Thai nationals were released from captivity in Gaza in the third round of hostage-prisoner swap under a ceasefire agreement between Palestinian groups and Israel aimed at de-escalating the conflict in the region. The hostages were surrounded by large crowds as they were walked to Red Cross vehicles at Khan Younis in southern Gaza amid chaotic scenes.

 

Meanwhile, Israeli authorities have begun the release of 110 Palestinian prisoners after initial delay over what they said were unacceptable, chaotic scenes at the hostage handover in southern Gaza.

In the US, at least 28 bodies have been recovered from the freezing-cold Potomac River in Washington DC following a mid-air collision between an American Airlines flight and a Black Hawk helicopter. The collision occurred as the passenger jet, carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, was approaching to land at Ronald Reagan National Airport. Three soldiers were in the helicopter. Both aircraft fell into the Potomac river. Fire and Emergency medical services Chief John A. Donnelly said at this point, no one is believed to have survived after the crash. He said, they are switching from a rescue to a recovery operation.

Srikanth secured a commanding victory over 20-year-old Jason Gunawan of Hong Kong, defeating him 21-19, 21-15 in just 42 minutes in the pre-quarterfinals. Subramanian defeated Indonesia’s Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo 9-21, 21-10, 21-17 in the Round of 16.
