At least 30 people  lost their lives, and 60 others were injured in the incident that took place at the Sangam Ghat in Maha Kumbh, Prayagraj today. Addressing a press conference, DIG Kumbh Mela Vaibhav Krishna said the incident occurred between 1 and 2 AM, when a huge crowd gathered on the Akhara route and the barricades were broken. He added that the administration quickly enforced the rescue operation after the incident, created a green corridor for ambulances, and transported the injured to hospitals.

 

President Droupadi Murmu has said that the stampede incident at   Maha Kumbh is extremely sad. In a social media post, the President expressed condolences to the families of the devotees who have lost their lives. She prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

 

Prime Minister Modi also expressed condolences to the families of the people who have lost their lives in the painful accident which occurred in the Mahakumbh.

 

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered judicial inquiry into the incident . Talking to media, Mr Adityanath said that the three member judicial commission will look into the entire matter and submit its report to the state government. He also announced financial assistance of 25 lakh rupees each to the families of the deceased who have lost their lives in the incident.

 

Meanwhile, saints and seers of different Akhaaras today took the amrit snan at Triveni Sangam on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. Flower petals were showered on the saints and seers. Our correspondent reports that devotees are still taking the holy dip in the Triveni Sangam.

 

More than seven crore devotees have taken holy dip in Sangam so far on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. After the holy dip, devotees performed rituals and offered prayers at the ghats. Lakh of devotees are still coming to take holy dip in the Sangam. The Maha Kumbh Mela, recognized as the world’s largest religious gathering, commenced on 13th January and more than 26 crore devotees have taken holy dip so far. The security has been increased after the unfortunate incident took place at Sangam ghat. Rapid Action Force has been deployed in the Mela area.The security forces is keeping a close eye and strict vigilance through CCTV and Drones. The government has approved the National Critical Mineral Mission with an outlay of more than 34 thousand crore rupees. The decision has been taken to build a resilient value chain for critical mineral resources essential for promoting green technologies. Briefing media in New Delhi today, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the importance of critical minerals for the development of the economy. The government has also approved the price for ethanol procurement from sugarcane feedstock.

A grand Beating the Retreat ceremony was held at the historic Vijay Chowk in New Delhi this evening, marking the culmination of the 76th Republic Day celebrations. Synchronised performances by the Armed and Central Police Forces bands mesmerized the crowd with their melodious tunes. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other Union Ministers witnessed this captivating performance. Our correspondent reports that the music bands played a total of 30 captivating tunes in front of the audience.

 

Vijay Chowk today came alive with the enthralling performances of Indian Army, Navy, Air Force and Central Armed Police Forces bands. Beating Retreat begins with the iconic ‘Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja’ tune, and later Amar Bharati, Indradhanush, Jai Janam Bhumi, and Veer Siachen played by the Pipes and Drums band captivated the audiences. The Central Armed Police Forces bands performed ‘Vijay Bharat’, ‘Aye Watan Tere Liye’ and ‘Bharat ke Jawan’. Band of the Indian Air Force played ‘Galaxy Rider’, ‘Stride’, ‘Rubaru’ and ‘Millennium Flight Fantasy’ tunes. The Indian Navy band played ‘Rashtriya Pratham’, ‘Nishak Nishpad’, ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, ‘Spread the Light of Freedom’, ‘Rhythm of the Reef’ and ‘Jai Bharati’. The Indian Army band played ‘Veer Sapoot’, ‘Taqat Watan’, ‘Mera Yuva Bharat’, ‘Dhruv’ and ‘Faulad Ka Jigar’ which filled the audience with patriotic fervour. The event  came to a close with the ever-popular tune of ‘Sare Jahan se Acha’ played by the Buglers.

Uttar Pradesh’s tableau, based on the theme ‘Mahakumbh 2025 – Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas’, has won the best tableau award at the Republic Day Parade held on the 26th January at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. Meanwhile, Tripura’s ‘Eternal Reverence: The Worship of 14 Deities in Tripura – Kharchi Puja’ themed tableau was adjudged the 2nd position and Andhra Pradesh’s tableau depicting ‘Etikoppaka Bommalu – Eco-Friendly Wooden Toys’ won the 3rd prize.

Senior BJP leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today came down heavily on the Aam Aadmi Party accusing it of spreading lies and making false promises to the residents of Delhi. He said Delhi’s problems remain the same as  both the Congress and the AAP  did nothing for the development of Delhi in their tenure. Addressing a public meeting in Yamuna Khadar in North-East Delhi today, Mr Modi hit out at Aam Aadmi Party accusing it of being involved in corruption. 

 

Addressing an election rally in Bawana area Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also accused the AAP and BJP of making false promises. He alleged that former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is opposed to reservations and is against Dalits, backwards, minorities and the poor.

 

Addressing a public gathering in Badli Assembly area, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal highlighted the works done by his government. He promised that water bills will be waived off by his party, if they come to power.

The Joint Committee of Parliament on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024  adopted its draft report today. Talking to media in New Delhi, Chairman of the 31 member panel, Jagdambika Pal, said the Committee has adopted amendments on 14 clauses related to the Bill.
