India and China today reviewed the state of bilateral relations comprehensively and agreed to take certain people-centric steps to stabilize and rebuild ties during the meeting of the Foreign Secretary-Vice Minister mechanism between India and China. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is on a two-day visit to China for the meeting. The External Affairs Ministry in a statement said the two sides decided to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in the summer of 2025. The relevant mechanism will discuss the modalities for doing so as per existing agreements. They also agreed to hold an early meeting of the India-China Expert Level Mechanism to discuss resumption of provision of hydrological data and other cooperation pertaining to trans-border rivers.

 

The two sides agreed in principle to resume direct air services between the two countries. The relevant technical authorities on the two sides will meet and negotiate an updated framework for this purpose at an early date.

 

Specific concerns in the economic and trade areas were discussed with a view to resolving these issues and promoting long-term policy transparency and predictability.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today spoke with US President Donald Trump over phone, in their first conversation since the American President assumed his office in White House. Mr Modi congratulated President Trump on his historic second term. In a social media post, Mr Modi said India and the US are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership. He said both nations will work together for the welfare of the people and towards global peace, prosperity, security.

Prime Minister Modi today said, the ongoing debate on holding simultaneous elections in the country under the One Nation One Election proposal is critical for India’s democratic process and urged the youngsters to actively engage in and promote the discussions. Mr Modi was addressing the annual National Cadet Corps (NCC) Rally at the Cariappa Parade Ground in New Delhi. The theme of this year’s rally was ‘Yuva Shakti, Viksit Bharat’.

 

Prime Minister Modi, termed the youth of the country as the force for global good and asserted that future of world cannot be imagined without them.

 

Mr Modi said, NCC has constantly inspired the youth towards nation building. During the event, a cultural programme was performed by more than 800 cadets, showcasing commitment of NCC towards nation building. The rally also witnessed participation by 144 young cadets from 18 friendly foreign countries.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched WAVES Bazaar, WAH Ustaad challenge and WAVES Awards in New Delhi today. A Special CBI court in Chandigarh today awarded life imprisonment to former Himachal Pradesh Inspector General of Police and seven other policemen for the custodial death of an accused in connection with the rape and murder of a minor schoolgirl in Shimla’s Kotkhai in 2017.

 

This is possibly the first time in the history of Himachal Pradesh that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) conducting an investigation has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the court. The Gudia rape and murder case, which occurred in July 2017 in Kotkhai, Shimla district, had shaken the entire state. The court found that the accused, Suraj, died due to custodial beating by the police. In light of this, the court convicted former IGP Zahur Haider Zaidi and eight other police officials and personnel, sentencing them to life imprisonment today. Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to fully implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The UCC seeks to establish a uniform and equal set of rules across personal laws relating to marriage, divorce, succession, and inheritance, for all citizens in the state, excluding the Scheduled Tribes, irrespective of religion or gender.

 

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced the full adoption of Uniform Civil Code in the state today with the inauguration of rules manual for the UCC and a portal for applications under the new rules in Dehradun.

Our correspondent reports that Prayagraj Railway Division has implemented a unique plan for the entry and exit of passengers at all city stations including Prayagraj Junction, Naini, Chheoki, and Subedarganj.

To ensure the safety and smooth movement of such a large number of devotees on Mauni Amavasya, the entry of passengers at Prayagraj Junction will be permitted only from Platform number one and Exit from Platform number six.
