भीषण चक्रवाती तूफान रेमल बांग्लादेश के खेपुपारा और पश्चिम बंगाल के दक्षिण 24 परगना जिले के सागर के बीच प्रवेश कर चुका है। सुंदरबन और उत्तर तथा दक्षिण 24 परगना जिले के तटीय इलाकों में तेज़ से बहुत तेज़ वर्षा होने की सूचना है। हावड़ा, हुगली, कोलकाता और नादिया जिलों में भी बारिश हो रही है। उत्तर बंगाल के मालदा में भी बारिश हो रही है। कोलकाता शहर और उपनगरों में तेज़ हवा चल रही है।

Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday chaired a meeting in New Delhi to review the preparedness for cyclone “Remal” over North Bay of Bengal. During the meeting, Prime Minister was briefed that the National Crisis Management Committee is in regular touch with the Government of West Bengal. All fishermen have been advised not to venture into South Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. Around one lakh people are being moved to safer places. IMD is also extending information support to Bangladesh with regular updates. During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi said that the the Central government has extended full support to the State Government and must continue to do so. He said that the Ministry of Home Affairs should monitor the situation and take a review after the landfall of the cyclone in order to extend necessary assistance for restoration. Prime Minister has instructed that apart from 12 NDRF teams that have already been deployed in West Bengal and one in Odisha, more teams be kept on standby which can move within one hour. The Indian Coast Guard to deploy its assets for any emergency. He said the Ports, Railways and Highways be kept on high vigil to avoid any untoward incidents.

National Disaster Response Force, NDRF has said that a total of its 14 teams are deployed in West Bengal to assist in rescue and relief operations considering the landfall of cyclonic storm Remal. Apart from this, additional teams have been earmarked to move on short notices as per requirement. Since the issuance of early warning from IMD, NDRF teams have been made available to the State and District administration for evacuating people to safer places wherever required and sensitizing localities about the preventive measures. NDRF said that it is closely monitoring development and coordination has been made at all levels.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today said that India’s reputation has changed globally and the success of New Delhi’s foreign policy is a manifestation of its domestic policy. He also emphasized that today India is the world’s fastest growing economy and the world wants to open operations and ventures here. Jaishankar was speaking at an event ‘Bharat’s Rise in Global Diplomacy’ in Benares Club in Varanasi yesterday. Addressing the event, Jaishankar said, if we look at the major economies, India’s growth rate of 7 per cent is the highest in the world. Today the world is interested in India, so many joint venture proposals come here, so many companies want to start their operations, and India’s trade and exports are rising. There has been a lot of progress in this. The growth rate has increased and inflation has reduced. Speaking on India’s foreign policy, the Foreign Minister said that India lacked confidence in the past, but has displayed a confident foreign policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He added that while earlier India was reluctant to have relations with countries, today it is working to keep everyone close.

In Gujarat, six people including the owners of the TRP Game Zone in Rajkot have been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder in connection with Rajkot Fire tragedy which took plce on Saturday evening.
Rajkot City Police Commissioner R Bhargava told media that two of the accused including Yuvraj Singh Solanki, the owner of the game zone were arrested yesterday.
The fire at TRP game zone in Rajkot claimed 28 lives and left eight people injured. The Gujarat High Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and it is set to hear the matter today.

Dipa Karmakar scripted history today clinching India’s first-ever gold medal at the Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The 30-year-old Olympian registered an average score of 13.566 in the women’s pole-vault final.This is the first time that an Indian gymnast has won a gold medal in any event at the Asian Championships. Dipa’s already outstanding list of firsts for Indian gymnastics is enhanced by the vault gold. She is the first female gymnast from India to compete in the Olympics, and at Rio 2016, she put on the best performance of any gymnast competing in the Summer Games, placing fourth in the women’s vault.

CHENNAI METRO
The Russian Centre of Science and Culture screened three Russian films in Tamil during a two day festival this week. The festival was jointly organised by the Russian House and the Madras Film Society , the maiden festival’s debut movie Project Gemini was screened. Alexander Dodonov, Director of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture said that cinema is the medium that connects people all over the world. The festival was unveiled in the presence of Oleg.N.Avdeev Consul general of the Russian Federation in Chennai and the civic society.

The Bureau of Indian Standards, Chennai branch office and federation of Indian export organisations conducted a training program on BIS certification for importers and exporters. More than 50 participants from Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh participated in the training. The program highlighted the importance of having regulations in obtaining BIS certification to curb substandard products being produced in the Country. There were discussions on ways to apply for certification and also on how to maintain the quality of goods that are being manufactured.

HYDERABAD METRO
Telangana State Anthem is set to be released on 2nd June, the state formation Day. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has suggested several modifications to the official anthem — Jaya Jaya He Telangana — which was written by the lyricist Ande Sri and composed by Oscar winner music director M.M. Keeravani. The chief minister interacted with both of them and discussed the modifications, which were based on the recommendations that he received at the recent Cabinet meeting. The 1.5-minute-long anthem is tuned to reflect the Telangana culture and its traditions. It will also recall the contributions of martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Telangana movement. The state anthem will be released during the official State Formation Day celebrations on June 2 at Parade Ground in Secunderabad. The government had invited AICC leader Sonia Gandhi to the event and she is scheduled to release the anthem. After being released officially on June 2, it will be played at all government educational institutions, schools and government offices.

BENGALURU METRO
Karnataka has witnessed an alarming rise in crime against women, with a total of 6,551 cases reported under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and special laws.
According to data from the Karnataka State Police, as of April 2024, sexual violence remains a grave concern in the state. There were 196 reported cases of rape and a staggering 2,333 cases of molestation.
Kidnapping and abduction cases amounted to 41. Insulting modesty, often referred to as eve-teasing, recorded 36 cases.
Human trafficking accounted for 112 cases. Cybercrimes, a growing menace in the digital age, surged to 2,204 cases. Among other offences, there were 45 cases against public servants and 10 offences related to marriage.

According to a report by the Central Silk Technological Research Institute (STOI), the school uniforms provided for free to government school children in the state are substandard. The Department of School Education and Literacy wrote to the Department of Industries and Commerce on Friday evening, stating that the uniforms should be replaced within 30 days.
Upon inspection, it was found that the shirting material is of poor quality. As per the norms, the cloth should contain 30% cotton and 70% polyester, but in this case, the amount of polyester was over 90%. The uniforms, intended for six districts in North Karnataka, have reached the godown but have not yet been distributed. The quantity of substandard cloth could not be quantified by STOI.

दिल्ली से सटे फरीदाबाद में भीषण गर्मी के कारण पहली से कक्षा आठवीं तक के सभी सरकारी और निजी स्कूल 31 मई तक बंद रहेंगे। फरीदाबाद के उपायुक्त विक्रम सिंह ने बताया है कि मौसम विभाग ने अलग-अलग जिलों भीषण गर्मी जारी रहने का अनुमान व्यक्त किया है, जिसको ध्यान में रखते हुए स्कूलों में अवकाश की घोषणा की गयी है।

दिल्ली पुलिस ने विवेक विहार इलाके में बच्चों के एक अस्पताल में शनिवार आग लगने की घटना में एक निदेशक और एक डॉक्टर सहित दो आरोपियों को गिरफ्तार किया है। इस हादसे में बारह शिशुओं को बचा लिया गया। अभी एक शिशु आई.सी.यू. में है और पांच अन्य को अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है। प्रधानमंत्री कार्यालय ने हादसे में जान गंवाने वाले मृतकों के परिवारों के लिए सहायता राशि देने की घोषणा की है। प्रत्येक मृतक के निकटतम परिजन को प्रधानमंत्री राष्ट्रीय राहत कोष से दो-दो लाख रुपये की अनुग्रह राशि प्रदान की जाएगी और घायलों को 50-50 हजार रुपये दिये जायेंगे। नवजात शिशुओं की दर्दनाक मृत्यु पर राष्ट्रपति द्रौपदी मुर्मु, उपराष्ट्रपति जगदीप धनखड़, प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी और दिल्ली के मुख्यमंत्री अरविंद केजरीवाल ने गहरा दुख व्यक्त किया है।

पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार के कृषि विभाग ने गंभीर चक्रवाती तूफ़ान रेमल के कारण कृषि को हुए नुकसान की अद्यतन जानकारी प्राप्त करने के लिए एक नियंत्रण कक्ष खोला है। यह कंट्रोल रूम 24 घंटे चलता है और यह कोलकाता के जेसप बिल्डिंग मुख्यालय में खोला जाता है. इसके अलावा पश्चिम बंगाल के सभी जिलों में नियंत्रण कक्ष भी खोले गए हैं।

1951- Taraporewala Aquarium was inaugurated at Mumbai by President Dr. Rajendra Prasad. This Aquarium is India’s oldest aquarium and one of Mumbai’s main attractions. It hosts marine and freshwater fish. The aquarium is located on Marine Drive. The aquarium has a 12-foot long and 180 degree acrylic glass tunnel.

1997- Sri Lanka claims Independence Cup, winning the second match in the best-of-three finals in Calcutta.
1999- IAF loses two fighter aircrafts in the Kargil area. Pakistan claims it has Flight Lieutenant Nachiketa in its custody.

आज भारतीय मराठी लेखक, उपन्यासकार, कवि, समीक्षक तथा शिक्षाविद भालचंद्र नेमाडे का भी जन्मदिन है। (अंग्रेज़ी: Bhalchandra Nemade, जन्म- 27 मई, 1938) थे। भालचंद्र नेमाडे को भारतीय साहित्य के सर्वोच्च सम्मान ‘ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार’ से वर्ष 2014 में इन्हें सम्मानित किया गया था। भालचंद्र नेमाडे यह पुरस्कार प्राप्त करने वाले चौथे मराठी साहित्यकार थे। भालचंद्र नेमाडे के ‘हिंदू’, ‘झूल’, ‘बिढार’, ‘कोसला’ आदि उपन्यास बहुत चर्चित रहें हैं। उनका ‘हिंदू’ उपन्यास काफी प्रसिद्ध है। भालचंद्र नेमाडे के सन 1963 में प्रकाशित ‘कोसला’ उपन्यास को काफी लोकप्रियता मिली थी। इसके अलावा उनके कविता संग्रह, कहानी संग्रह भी प्रकाशित हुए हैं। मराठी साहित्य की समीक्षा भी उन्होंने की।

आज हवलदार हंगपन दादा की पुण्यतिथि है। (अंग्रेज़ी: Hangpan Dada, जन्म- 2 अक्टूबर, 1979, अरुणाचल प्रदेश; शहादत- 27 मई, 2016, जम्मू और कश्मीर) हवलदार हंगपन दादा भारतीय सेना के उन जांबाज सैनिकों में से एक थे, जिन्होंने आतंकवादियों के साथ लड़ते हुए शहादत प्राप्त की। वे 27 मई, 2016 को उत्तरी कश्मीर के शमसाबाड़ी में आतंकवादियों के साथ मुठभेड़ में शहीद हुए। वीरगति प्राप्त करने से पूर्व उन्होंने चार हथियारबंद आतंकवादियों को मौत के घाट उतार दिया। इस वीरता के लिए हवलदार हंगपन दादा को वर्ष 2016 में मरणोपरांत ‘अशोक चक्र’ से सम्मानित किया गया। ‘अशोक चक्र’ शांतिकाल में दिया जाने वाला वीरता सम्मान है। शहीद हंगपन दादा का का जन्म अरुणाचल प्रदेश के बोरदुरिया नामक गाँव में 2 अक्टूबर, 1979 को हुआ था
26 मई, 2016 को हवलदार हंगपन दादा को आतंकवादियों का पीछा करने और उन्हें पकड़ने का जिम्मा सौंपा गया। उनकी टीम एलओसी के पास शामशाबारी माउंटेन पर करीब 13000 की फीट की ऊंचाई वाले बर्फीले इलाके में इतनी तेज़ीसे आगे बढ़ी कि उन्होंने आतंकवादियों के बच निकलने का रास्ता रोक दिया।

आज तेलुगु भाषा के प्रसिद्ध विद्वान, जिन्हें आधुनिक तेलुगु साहित्य में ‘गद्य ब्रह्मा’ के नाम से ख्याति मिलीकंदुकूरी वीरेशलिंगम की पुण्यतिथि है। (अंग्रेज़ी: Kandukuri Veeresalingam ; जन्म- 16 अप्रैल, 1848, राजमंड्री, आंध्र प्रदेश; मृत्यु- 27 मई, 1919) । सनातनपंथी ब्राह्मण परिवार में जन्मे वीरेशलिंगम जाति-पांति के कट्टर विरोधी थे। उन्होंने जाति विरोध आंदोलन का सूत्रपात किया। वीरेशलिंगम का जीवन लक्ष्य आदर्श नहीं, बल्कि आचरण था। इसीलिए उन्होंने विधवा आश्रमों की स्थापना की। स्त्री शिक्षा को प्रोत्साहित करने के लिए उन्होंने 1874 में राजमंड्री के समीप धवलेश्वरम में और 1884 में इन्निसपेटा में बालिकाओं के लिए पाठशालाओं की स्थापना की।
