He further condemned the Prime Minister, highlighting his participation in a roadshow while families affected by the Ghatkopar hoarding incident were still mourning. Telecommunications Secretary Dr Neeraj Mittal has highlighted that sustainable development will require the deployment of technology across the entire supply chains, economies and social sectors. Dr Mittal said this while addressing the gathering at the roundtable discussion organized to commemorate World Telecom and Information Society Day in New Delhi yesterday. Dr Mittal emphasized that telecommunications is integral to achieving sustainable development and the country has robust telecom network system. He also mentioned that digital economy will become roughly about 1.5 billion dollars in India by 2025-26 and it will be a good 15% of the GDP.

Addressing the media yesterday, she claimed that a video has surfaced, which disproves Swati Maliwal’s claims. She accused the BJP of hatching a conspiracy in this case. Swati Maliwal has lodged a complaint against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s PA Vibhav Kumar alleging misconduct with her.
Ms Maliwal accused the Aam Aadmi Party of taking a U-turn in the case alleging that the party is trying to save the accused. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s PA Vibhav Kumar yesterday filed complain against Swati Maliwal.

इजरायल की सेना ने गाजा से तीन बंधकों के शव बरामद किए हैं। इज़राइल रक्षा बल-आईडीएफ ने कहा कि यह शव अमित बुस्किला, शनि लौक और इत्ज़ाक गेलेरेन्टर के थे। आईडीएफ ने कहा कि सात अक्टूबर को उनकी हत्या कर दी गई और उनके अवशेषों को गाजा वापस ले जाया गया।
इजरायली प्रधानमंत्री बेंजामिन नेतन्याहू ने इस खबर को बेहद दुखद बताया। हमास के बंदूकधारियों ने सात अक्टूबर को इज़राइल में घुसकर एक अभूतपूर्व हमले में लगभग एक हजार दो सौ लोगों की हत्या कर दी। वे दो सौ बावन अन्य लोगों को बंधक के रूप में गाजा ले गए। हमास द्वारा संचालित स्वास्थ्य मंत्रालय के अनुसार हमास के हमलों के बाद इज़राइल ने गाजा में आक्रामक हमला किया जिसमें 35 हजार से अधिक लोग मारे गए।

Epsilon Advanced Materials, a global battery material solutions provider, is scouting for land to establish its Rs. 5000 crore cathode plant in India. The company is looking at five states including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana to set up the facility and commence the commercial production by next year. The development comes close on the heels of EAM acquiring a lithium-ion phosphate cathode active material technology centre in Germany in January this year.

Tambaram Corporation area residents can register their dogs and cats on a new app and obtain licenses. Last year the Greater Chennai Corporation received around one hundred applications. Recently a child was attacked by two rottweilers and the Corporation began enforcing the licensing which has led to registrations of more than 1000 pets on the portal. Pet owners have to sign in with details of the breed, age and sex of the pet. The owners also have to upload documents verifying their address and proof of anti-rabies vaccination. After the details are approved applicants have to pay Rs. 50 online. The license needs to be reviewed annually.

In Karnataka, the Met department has issued an Orange alert for Bengaluru rural and Urban, Chamrajnagar, Chickballapur, Kodagu, Kolar and Mysuru from May 19th as these districts are most likely to receive heavy rainfall. A Yellow alert is issued for Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru and Shivamogga districts tomorrow, with a forecast of heavy rains, thunderstorms and gusty winds. These districts are most likely to receive heavy rainfall till May 21. The wind speed in these districts may go up from 40 to 50 Kmph. Davangere has been receiving heavy showers. It received 25.5 MM rainfall yesterday, Mandya received 12.4 MM rainfall and Bagalkote received 11.5 MM rainfall yesterday. In Bengaluru, a cloudy sky is forecast for the next 48 hours with moderate rain or thunderstorms towards evening or night in some areas. The city will experience a maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 22 degrees Celsius.

The Telangana state government has directed all officials to adopt the ‘TG’ acronym, replacing ‘TS’, as the official abbreviation of Telangana at the state level and with an immediate effect.
This comes after Telangana’s vehicle registration code was officially changed from the previous prefix following Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s claim that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (formerly TRS) had chosen the ‘TS’ code to harmonise it with TRS. The government has issued a notification to this effect, directing all the departments of the secretariat to replace all references to ‘TS’ with ‘TG’ in the nomenclature of all state PSUs, agencies, autonomous institutions, and any other government bodies, official documents, including letterheads, reports, notifications, signage within and outside government offices, websites and online platforms and any other official communication. The chief officials were also requested further to review all government institutions under their administrative control to ensure migration seamlessly across the board and specifically to adopt TG in “all official documents,” “standardisation in communication,” and “inventory and stationery.” A compliance report was also sought by the end of this month.

राजधानी में एक हजार पांच सौ से अधिक बुजुर्गों और दिव्यांग मतदाताओं ने घर बैठे ही वोट डाला। चुनाव आयोग ने पहली बार 85 साल से अधिक उम्र वाले बुजुर्ग और दिव्यांग मतदाताओं के घर बैठे ही वोट डालने की सुविधा शुरु की है। यह सुविधा कल से दिल्ली में शुरू हो गई है। दिल्ली में इस श्रेणी में एक लाख 75 हजार से अधिक मतदाता हैं, जिनमें 97 हजार बुजुर्ग और 76 हजार दिव्यांग हैं। हालांकि पांच हजार 472 लोगों ने ही, घर से मतदान करने की सुविधा का लाभ उठाने के लिये पंजीकरण कराया है। चुनावी महापर्व में लागो की अधिकतम भागीदारी सुनिश्चित करने और मतदान प्रतिशत को बढाने के लिये, चुनाव आयोग ने यह पहल शुरू की है। इसके अलावा चुनाव आयोग ने बुजुर्गों और दिव्यांगों को मतदान केन्द्र तक लाने और वापस घर पहुंचाने के लिए गाडियों की व्यवस्था की है। दिल्ली में सात लोकसभा सीटों के लिए चुनाव छठे चरण में 25 मई को होगा।
चुनाव के लिए प्रचार जोर-शोर से चल रहा है। भाजपा, कांग्रेस और आम आदमी पार्टी के नेता अपने-अपने प्रत्याशियों के पक्ष में चुनाव प्रचार कर रहे हैं। प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी और वरिष्ठ कांग्रेस नेता राहुल गांधी कल से राजधानी में चुनाव का आगाज करेंगे। दिल्ली में सात लोकसभा सीटों के लिए कुल एक सौ 62 उम्मीदवार चुनाव मैदान में हैं।

नई दिल्ली पालिका परिषद ने कल सिंगल यूज प्लास्टिक के खिलाफ जागरूकता अभियान चलाया। यह अभियान राजधानी के मौलाना आजाद रोड़ मार्किट और साउथ एवेन्यु मार्किट में चलाया गया। इस अभियान के दौरान लोगों से अनुरोध किया गया कि वे प्लास्टिक का उपयोग न करें। इसके अलावा, नई दिल्ली पालिका परिषद ने वेक्टर जनित बीमारियों की रोकथाम के लिए भी जागरूकता अभियान चलाया।

दिल्ली नगर निगम के जन स्वास्थ्य विभाग ने कल डेंगू और इसकी रोकथाम के तरीकों के बारे में जागरूकता फैलाने के लिए राष्ट्रीय डेंगू दिवस मनाया। निगम ने कहा कि मच्छर जनित बीमारियों की समस्याओं के समाधान के लिए सामुदायिक भागीदारी जरूरी है। जन स्वास्थ्य विभाग के सभी 12 जोन में राष्ट्रीय डेंगू दिवस को मनाने के लिए विभिन्न कार्यक्रम आयोजित किए गए। इन कार्यक्रमों में दिल्ली की स्वास्थ्य इकाइयों के 150 से अधिक विशेषज्ञों, चिकित्सा अधिकारियों और अस्पतालों के नोडल डॉक्टर शामिल हुए। इस अवसर पर मच्छर प्रजनन और इसे रोकने के संबंध में एक प्रदर्शनी भी प्रदर्शित की गई।
दिल्ली नगर निगम के अन्य जोनों में भी वेक्टर जनित रोगों की रोकथाम एवं नियंत्रण के संबंध में विभिन्न गतिविधियां आयोजित की गईं।

मुंबई सीमा शुल्क आयुक्तालय ने मुंबई में छत्रपति शिवाजी महाराज अंतर्राष्ट्रीय हवाई अड्डे पर करीब साढे ग्यारह किलोग्राम से अधिक सोना और सिगरेट जब्त की। इसका मूल्य लगभग सवा सात करोड़ रुपये है। इस सिलसिले में तीन लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है। ये यात्री दुबई, अबू धाबी, जेद्दा, काहिरा, दोहा, हांगकांग, कुआलालंपुर, कुवैत और मस्कट से यात्रा करके लौट रहे थे।

मुंबई क्राइम ब्रांच कल उस कंपनी के मालिक भावेश भिंडे को लेकर आई, जिसका होर्डिंग घाटकोपर में एक पेट्रोल पंप पर गिरने से 16 लोगों की मौत हो गई थी। अधिकारियों के मुताबिक घटना के बाद से वह लापता था और उसका मोबाइल भी बंद था। मुंबई क्राइम ब्रांच ने 16 मई को भिड़े को उदयपुर से गिरफ्तार किया था। बृहन्मुंबई नगर निगम (बीएमसी) ने कहा है कि जिस पेट्रोल पंप पर विशाल होर्डिंग गिरने से 16 लोगों की मौत हो गई, वह बिना ऑक्यूपेशन सर्टिफिकेट (ओसी) के चल रहा है। बीएमसी ने यह भी कहा कि पेट्रोल पंप को एक अस्थायी लाइसेंस दिया गया है और अधिकारी आगे के दस्तावेजों को सत्यापित करने की प्रक्रिया शुरू कर रहे हैं।

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कल महाराष्ट्र सरकार को नए बॉम्बे हाई कोर्ट भवन के निर्माण के लिए आवश्यक भूमि की पहली किश्त जारी करने का निर्देश दिया। मुख्य न्यायाधीश डीवाई चंद्रचूड़ के साथ-साथ जस्टिस बीआर गवई और जेबी पारदीवाला की पीठ ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि राज्य सरकार को परियोजना के लिए निर्धारित संपूर्ण 9.64 एकड़ जमीन सौंपने के लिए दिसंबर 2024 तक इंतजार करने की जरूरत नहीं है। सीजेआई ने कहा कि राज्य ने मौजूदा उच्च न्यायालय परिसर के संरचनात्मक ऑडिट का आदेश दिया था, और वैकल्पिक परिसर को सुरक्षित करने की दिशा में कदम उठाए गए हैं।

आज पोखरण परमाणु विस्फोट दिवस है। यह प्रत्येक वर्ष ’18 मई’ को मनाया जाता है। भारतीय परमाणु आयोग ने पोखरण, राजस्थान में अपना पहला भूमिगत परमाणु परीक्षण 18 मई, 1974 में किया था। इस परीक्षण को ‘स्माइलिंग बुद्धा’ का नाम दिया गया था। इस उपलक्ष्य में प्रत्येक वर्ष ‘पोखरण परमाणु विस्फोट दिवस’ मनाया जाता है। इसके बाद वर्ष 1998 में भारत ने 11 मई व 13 मई को राजस्थान के पोखरण में परमाणु परीक्षण कर दुनिया को चौंका दिया था। अचानक किये गए इन परमाणु परीक्षणों से अमेरिका, पाकिस्तान सहित सभी देश अचंभित रह गए थे।
पूर्व राष्ट्रपति डॉ. ए.पी.जे. अब्दुल कलाम की अगुआई में यह मिशन कुछ इस तरह से अंजाम दिया गया कि पूरी दुनिया को इसकी भनक तक नहीं लगी। इससे पहले 1974 में भारत ने अपना पहला परमाणु परीक्षण (पोखरण-1) कर दुनिया को भारत की ताकत का लोहा मनवाया था। इसके बाद अंतरराष्ट्रीय जगत में भारत का स्थान और उसकी साख एक मजबूत राष्ट्र के तौर पर उभरी। इस ऑपरेशन को पूरा किया गया था तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री के वैज्ञानिक सलाहकार और डीआरडीओ के प्रमुख डॉ. ए.पी.जे. अब्दुल कलाम के नेतृत्व में, जो बाद में देश के राष्ट्रपति बने।

आज पुण्यतिथि है पंचानन माहेश्वरी की। वे सुप्रसिद्ध वनस्पति विज्ञानी थे। पंचानन माहेश्वरी ने इलाहाबाद विश्वविद्यालय में शिक्षा प्राप्त की और आगरा कॉलेज से अध्यापन कार्य आरंभ किया। इलाहाबाद लखनऊ और ढाका विश्वविद्यालयों में भी पंचानन माहेश्वरी रहे और 1948 में दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय में वनस्पति विज्ञान के अध्यक्ष होकर आ गए तथा जीवनपर्यंत वहीं रहे। माहेश्वरी की अपने क्षेत्र में अंतर्राष्ट्रीय ख्याति थी। इन्होंने पादप भ्रूणविज्ञान पर विशेष कार्य किया। भ्रूणविज्ञान और पादप क्रियाविज्ञान के सम्मिश्रण से इन्होंने एक नई शाखा का विकास किया। इससे फूलों के विभिन्न भागों की कृत्रिम पोषण द्वारा वृद्धि कराने में सफलता मिली। आपके अधीन शोध कार्य करने के लिए भारतीय नहीं, अमेरिका, ऑस्ट्रेलिया, अर्जन्टीना आदि देशों के छात्र भी आते थे। आपके पथ-प्रदर्शन में लगभग 60 छात्रों ने डॉक्टरेट की उपाधि प्राप्त की। पंचानन माहेश्वरी ने अपने विषय के अनेक अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलनों में भारत का प्रतिनिधित्व किया। आपको अनेक देशी और विदेशी सम्मान भी प्राप्त हुए। टिशू कल्चर प्रयोगशाला की स्थापना तथा टेस्ट ट्यूब कल्चर पर शोध के लिए लंदन की रॉयल सोसाइटी ने इन्हें अपना फैलो बनाकर सम्मानित किया।

आज ही पुण्यतिथि है जय गुरुदेव की। वे एक प्रसिद्ध धार्मिक गुरु थे। गुरु के महत्व को सर्वोपरि रखने वाले बाबा जय गुरुदेव भी इसी नाम से प्रसिद्ध हो गए। अपने प्रत्येक कार्य में अपने गुरु देव का स्मरण कर जय गुरु देव का उद्घोष करते थे। वह बाबा जयगुरुदेव के नाम से ही जाने जाने लगे। बाबा जय गुरुदेव गुरु के सान्निध्य को जीवन भर रेखांकित करते रहे। उनका कहना था, हर मर्ज की दवा है। हर समस्या का हल है। बस गुरु की शरण में चले आओ। बाबा की सोच व विचार गांव और ग़रीब दोनों से जुड़े थे। बाबा कहते थे- शरीर तो किराए की कोठरी है, इसके लिए 23 घंटे दो लेकिन इस मंदिर में बसने वाले देव यानी आत्मा के लिए कम से कम एक घंटा ज़रूर निकालो।

आज ही पुण्यतिथि है मुकुन्द दास की। वे भारतीय बांग्ला भाषा के कवि, गीतकार, संगीतकार और देशभक्त थे। उन्होने ग्रामीण स्वदेशी आंदोलन के प्रसार में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया था। सन 1905 में अश्विनी कुमार दत्त ने बंगाल के प्रस्तावित विभाजन के खिलाफ बारीसाल टाउन हॉल में एक प्रेरक भाषण दिया था। संदेश को दूर-दूर तक फैलाने की आवश्यकता पर बल देते हुए उन्होंने कामना की कि नाटकों और नाटकों के माध्यम से नेताओं के संदेश को गांवों तक पहुंचाया जा सके। तब मुकुन्द दास अश्विनी कुमार दत्त के भाषण से बहुत प्रभावित हुए थे। उन्होंने महान देशभक्त की इच्छा को पूरा करने का संकल्प लिया। तीन महीने के भीतर मुकुन्द दास ने अपनी उत्कृष्ट कृति ‘मातृपूजा’ की रचना की।
उनके नाटक का प्राथमिक विषय देशभक्ति और स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन था। स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन का लक्ष्य भारतमाता को ब्रिटिश साम्राज्यवाद के जुए से मुक्त कराना था। भारतमाता के बच्चों ने आजादी पाने के लिए अपने प्राणों की आहुति दे दी। उन्होंने बंगाल के गांवों में नाटकों का मंचन करने के लिए एक स्वदेशी थिएटर समूह बनाया। सन 1906 में मुकुन्द दास ने बारीसाल के विभिन्न स्थानों पर अपने नाटकों का मंचन किया और फिर नोआखली और त्रिपुरा की यात्रा की और मानसून से पहले बारीसाल लौट आए। जून 1906 में उन्होंने बारीसाल में स्वदेशी उत्सव में अपने नाटक का मंचन किया, जहाँ उनके नाटक की राष्ट्रीय नेतृत्व ने बहुत प्रशंसा की। अक्टूबर में उन्होंने अपने समूह के साथ फरीदपुर जिले के मदारीपुर की यात्रा की और वहाँ से कई स्थानों पर। अंततः अप्रैल 1907 में बारीसाल लौट आए। 16 अप्रैल को उन्होंने राय बहादुर के महल में नाटक का मंचन किया। दो साल की दौड़ के बाद ‘मातृपूजा’ बंगाल की जनता की देशभक्ति की भावनाओं को जगाने में सफल रही। नाटक को प्रेस द्वारा और अधिक लोकप्रिय बनाया गया। बंदे मातरम, युगान्तर, संध्या, नवशक्ति, प्रबासी और आधुनिक समीक्षा, उनमें से प्रत्येक ने नाटक को लोकप्रिय बनाने में भूमिका निभाई।
सन 1908 में मुकुन्द दास ने खुलना जिले में कुछ स्थानों पर, फिर छोटे-छोटे बंगाल में नाटक का मंचन किया, लेकिन जब उन्होंने बागेरहाट में नाटक का मंचन करने की कोशिश की तो उन्हें पुलिस ने रोक दिया। अक्टूबर 1908 में नाटक ने चौथे सीज़न में कदम रखा। 1908 में मुकुन्द दास को राजद्रोह के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किया गया और तीन साल के लिए जेल में डाल दिया गया। 1921 में मोहनदास गांधी ने असहयोग आंदोलन का आह्वान किया। मुकुन्द दास नाटक के अपने सिद्ध प्रदर्शनों की सूची के साथ आंदोलन में शामिल हुए। 1923 के आसपास आंदोलन को बंद कर दिया गया और मुकुन्द दास कोलकाता में अपने समूह के साथ बस गए। उस समय सरकार ने ‘मातृपूजा’ पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया था। प्रतिबंधित होने से बचने के लिए उन्होंने सामाजिक नाटकों की रचना करना शुरू कर दिया। 1932 में सरकार ने उनके सभी नाटकों पर प्रतिबंध लगा दिया।

पुरस्कार-उपाधि फ़िल्मफेयर सर्वश्रेष्ठ सहायक अभिनेत्री पुरस्कार (चार बार) रंगमंच से अपने अभिनय का सफर शुरू करने वाली रीमा ने हिन्दी की कई सुपरहिट फिल्मों में काम किया। उनको हिन्दी फ़िल्मों में माँ की शानदार भूमिकाओं के लिए जाना जाता था। बॉलीवुड में उनका सितारा फ़िल्म ‘कयामत से कयामत तक’ में जूही चावला की माँ के किरदार से चमका। रीमा अंत समय तक अभिनय के क्षेत्र में सक्रिय थीं।
