Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the Election Commission is a marvel to the rest of the world. In an interview to a media house in Delhi yesterday, Mr Modi stressed that it is his government’s responsibility to showcase its exemplary work to the world. He added that in a democracy, elections must not be compartmentalised as merely losing or winning. He said elections provide an opportunity to convey a party’s message directly to the people without any dilution or diversion.

Mr Modi also hit out at Congress claiming that for the party, democracy means staying in power. He alleged that members of the Congress party are burdened by the legacy of the Gandhi family.

लोकसभा चुनाव के शेष चरणों के लिए प्रचार तेज हो गया है। विभिन्‍न राजनीतिक दलों के प्रमुख नेता रैलियां और जनसभाएं कर रहे हैं। प्रधानमंत्री और भारतीय जनता पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता नरेंद्र मोदी आज बाराबंकी, फतेहपुर और हमीरपुर निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में रैलियों को संबोधित करेंगे।

दिल्‍ली में सात लोकसभा सीटों पर 25 मई को होने वाले चुनाव के लिए प्रचार तेज हो गया है। भाजपा, कांग्रेस और आम आदमी पार्टी के नेता अपने-अपने प्रत्‍याशियों के पक्ष में जोर-शोर से चुनाव प्रचार कर रहे हैं। इस बार, आम आदमी पार्टी और कांग्रेस दोनों मिलकर चुनाव लड़ रहे हैं। दिल्ली में सात लोकसभा सीटों के लिए कुल एक सौ 62 उम्मीदवार चुनाव मैदान में हैं।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी के कई नेताओं और दिल्ली के सांसद उम्मीदवारों ने चुनाव-प्रचार अभियान के तहत जनता से बातचीत की।

पश्चिमी दिल्‍ली से आम आदमी पार्टी के प्रत्‍याशी महाबल मिश्रा ने कल हरी नगर, नजफगढ, द्वारका, विकासपुरी और मटियाला में जनसभाओं को संबोधित किया। चुनाव प्रचार के दौरान उन्‍होंने बेरोजगारी और अग्निवीर का मुद्दा उठाया।

Today is the last date of filing of nominations for the fifth phase of Lok Sabha Polls. Scrutiny of nominations will be held tomorrow, while Monday is the last date for withdrawal of candidature.

Meanwhile, polling for the phase three of Lok sabha elections in 93 seats in 10 states and 1 UT will be held on seventh of this month.

निर्वाचन आयोग ने लोकसभा चुनाव के लिए नई दिल्ली में 85 वर्ष से अधिक आयु के वरिष्ठ नागरिकों और दिव्यांगों के लिए घर पर मतदान की सुविधा शुरू की है। यह सुविधा 24 मई तक रहेगी। दिल्ली में 25 मई को छठे चरण के लिए मतदान होगा।

Dr Keith Christopher Rowley and his wife Sharon Rowley were accorded a ceremonial reception by Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais and Smt Rambai Bais at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai yesterday.Speaking on the occasion, Dr Keith Rowley said India’s Independence paved the way for the independence of Trinidad and Tobago.

सयुंक्‍त विश्‍व विद्यालय प्रवेश परीक्षा-सीयूईटी 2024 बुधवार को देश भर के 2 हजार 1 सौ 57 परीक्षा केंद्रों पर शुरू हुई, जिसमें देश के बाहर 26 शहर भी शामिल हैं। वहीं बृहस्‍पतिवार को करीब 1 हजार 5 सौ 78 परीक्षा केंद्रों पर परीक्षा आयोजित की गई। कुल मिलाकर, उपस्थिति में उल्लेखनीय वृद्धि के साथ परीक्षा का 72 प्रतिशत भाग दो दिनों में पूरा हो गया है। राष्‍ट्रीय परीक्षा एजेंसी-एनटीए ने परीक्षार्थियों को 17 और 18 मई को होने वाली परीक्षाओं के लिए संशोधित प्रवेश पत्र आधिकारकि वेबसाइट से डाउनलोड करने के लिए कहा है।

भारतीय तट रक्षक बल ने भारतीय जल क्षेत्र में अवैध रूप से मछली पकड़ने वाली पांच श्रीलंकाई नौकाओं को पकडा है। पाक जलडमरूमध्य के पास गश्त पर निकले भारतीय तट रक्षक बल के जहाज रानी दुर्गावती ने तमिलनाडु तट पर प्वाइंट कैलिमेरे से लगभग 15 मील दूर संदिग्ध नौकाओं को देखा। श्रीलंका के 14 नागरिकों वाली पांच नौकाओं को तटरक्षक जहाज ने एमजेडआई अधिनियम 1976 के उल्लंघन के लिए पकड़ लिया है। नौकाओं और चालक दल को आगे की कानूनी कार्रवाई के लिए नागापट्टिनम में तटीय सुरक्षा समूह को सौंप दिया जाएगा।

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heatwave conditions over Northwest India and Bihar for the next four days. Severe Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in some parts of West Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi till 20th of May. East and central India are also likely to witness heatwave conditions from 18th of this month.

In Women’s Boxing, reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen registered an impressive 5-0 win over Kazakhstan’s Tomiris Myrzakul to enter the women’s 52kg final at the Elorda Cup 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan, today.

Besides Nikhat, Minakshi in 48kg category, Anamika in 50kg and Manisha in 60kg category have also made their ways into the finals. Minakshi and Manisha put up similar dominating displays in their semi-finals to grab a 5-0 unanimous victories. Minakshi bagged her win against Kazakh boxers Gulnaz Buribayeva while Manisha defeated Tangatar Assem. Anamika, on the other hand, was adjudged victorious after her opponent Kazakhstan’s Gulnar Turapbay was disqualified for excessive holding after three warnings.

The finals will be played on Saturday this week.

Indian number one women’s paddler Manika Batra and Veteran Sharath Kamal will spearhead a six-member Indian table tennis team for the Paris Olympics 2024. The squad was announced by the Table Tennis Federation of India. All six players for the Indian Olympic table tennis team were selected based on world rankings. Sharath Kamal, India’s top-ranked men’s singles table tennis player at world No. 40, Manav Thakkar, world No. 62 and national champion Harmeet Desai, ranked 63rd, will form the men’s team.

The inaugural event of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment began yesterday at Avadi near Chennai. The organization has played a significant role in the enhancement of the Country’s self-reliance in defense cutting-edge technologies for the past 50 years. Dr.Samir V. Kamat Secretary and Chairman of DRDO graced the occasion along with top officials of the various defense establishments who took part in the event. Following the celebrations, the CVRDE flagship products were displayed in the exhibition and the features of each delegate.

IIT Madras will host Society for the promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youths 9th Annual International Convention from 20th to 26th May. The weeklong festival of Indian culture in which more than 1500 students and volunteers gather from across India and the world. Participants get an outlook of Indian Culture, heritage and ethics as they interact with great artists. In this event, around 150 students and researchers will take part in the event. Nearly 1300 participants from across India will have the opportunity to learn one art form everyday and experience the performance.

There are 103 candidates in fray filing 156 nominations for the six seats of Karnataka Legislative Council. The elections to the three Graduates and three Teachers constituencies will be held on June 3rd. Yesterday was the last day to file the nominations. The last day for withdrawal of candidature is May 20th. The counting of the votes will be held on June 6th. The Congress candidates are contesting from all the six seats, however the BJP is contesting from five seats and its alliance party JD(S) is contesting the election from two seats. The BJP is supporting the JD(S) candidate from South West Teacher constituency, however both the coalition partners are contesting from South Teachers constituency.

Now News from Hyderabad

Heavy rain lashed Hyderabad city and its outskirts last evening bringing much needed relief to people. Secuderabad, Khairatabad, Begumpet, Kukatpally, Ameerpet and other areas witnessed heavy rainfall prompting people to take shelter under flyovers and metro rail pillars. Hyderabad experienced a pleasant atmosphere as it registered a dip in day temperature. However, people had to face hardships due to traffic snarls for long distances.

In view of rains, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy asked officials to be on high alert. Reviewing the situation at the Secretariat, he instructed officials to avoid any inconvenience to people due to rains. Sudden downpour also brought much relief to people but it cast a shadow on the IPL match in Uppal. The ground staff covered the pitch and the field with covers. Traffic movement was also affected because of rain in several busy areas. Senior officials asked the field-level staff to be on roads to attend any emergency situation. The highest rainfall of 93.3 mm was recorded in Khairatabad while Sheikpet recorded over 87 mm.

देश की सबसे बडी कौशल प्रतियोगिता-द-इंडिया-स्क्ल्सि-2024 नई दिल्‍ली में चल रही है। चार दिनों तक चलने वाली इस प्रतियोगिता में तीस राज्‍यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों के नौ सौ से अधिक विद्यार्थी भाग ले रहें हैं। इस प्रतियोगिता के दौरान पारम्‍परिक हस्‍तशिल्‍प से लेकर नई तकनीक के क्षेत्र में अपना कौशल दिखा रहे हैं। इस प्रतियोगिता के विजेता सर्वश्रेष्‍ठ उद्योग प्रशिक्षकों की सहायता से इस वर्ष सितम्‍बर में फ्रांस के लियोन में होने वाली वर्ल्‍ड स्किल्‍स प्रतियोगिता की तैयारी करेंगे। इस प्रतियोगिता में भाग ले रहे विद्यार्थियों ने आकाशवाणी से अपने अनुभव साझा किये।

आईआईटी दिल्ली ने कल से हाई स्कूल की छात्राओं के लिए विज्ञान प्रौद्योगिकी, इंजीनियरिंग और गणित–स्टेम मेंटरशिप कार्यक्रम की शुरूआत की गई है। इस कार्यक्रम के माध्‍यम से स्‍कूली छात्राओं को जिन्‍दगी में आगे बढ़ने और बेहतर भविष्‍य बनाने के लिए आई आई टी के पूर्व छात्र उन्‍हें सलाह देते हैं। इस मेंटरशिप कार्यक्रम के लिए दिल्‍ली सरकार के स्‍कूल, निजी स्‍कूल और केंद्रीय विद्यालयों के कुल दो सौ छात्राओं ने पंजीकरण कराया था जिनमें से सौ छात्राओं को चुना गया है। नौ दिनों तक चलने वाली इस कार्यशाला में विशेषज्ञों के व्‍याख्‍यान और व्‍यावहारिक समस्‍याओं का समाधान किया जाएगा।

केंन्‍द्रीय अन्‍वेषण ब्‍यूरो-सी बी आई ने अवैध रूप से रुपयों के हस्‍तांतरण के अरोप में पंजाब नेशनल बैंक की दिल्‍ली स्थित हापुड़ शाखा के एक हैड कैशियर के खिलाफ मामला दर्ज किया है। इसके अलावा एक निजी व्‍यक्ति और एक अज्ञात व्‍यक्ति के खिलाफ भी मामला दर्ज किया है। हैड कैशियर पर आरोप है कि उसने इंटरनेट बैंकिंग के माध्‍यम से लगभग पांच करोड़ रुपये अवैध रूप से भोपाल स्थित अलग-अलग खातों में हस्‍तांतरित किए। सीबीआई ने इस संदर्भ में आरोपियों के घर पर तलाशी ली जिसमें आपत्तिजनक दस्‍तावेज बरामद किए गए।

दिल्ली पुलिस ने शराब की अवैध तस्करी करने वाले एक अन्‍तर्राज्‍यीय गिरोह का पर्दाफाश किया है। द्वारका जिले के पुलिस उपायुक्‍त अंकित सिंह ने बताया कि लोकसभा चुनाव को देखते हुए अवैध रूप से की जा रही शराब की तस्‍करी पर नजर रखी जा रही है। उन्‍होंने बताया कि इस संबंध में एक आरोपी को द्वारका क्षेत्र से गिरफ्तार किया गया है। पुलिस ने आरोपी के पास से दो सौ कार्टून अवैध शराब जब्‍त की है जिसमें 10 हजार बोतलें थीं। इसके अलावा तस्करी में इस्तेमाल किया जाने वाला एक चार पहिया वाहन भी जब्त किया गया है। पुलिस ने आरोपी के खिलाफ दिल्ली आबकारी अधिनियम के अंतर्गत मामला दर्ज किया है।

अब रुख करते है मुंबई की और –

प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी आज मुम्‍बई के प्रतिष्ठित शिवाजी पार्क में एक भव्य चुनावी रैली को संबोधित करेंगे। इस रैली में मुख्यमंत्री एकनाथ शिंदे, उपमुख्यमंत्री देवेंद्र फड़णवीस और अजीत पवार के साथ मनसे प्रमुख राज ठाकरे और अन्य वरिष्ठ नेताओं के शामिल होने की उम्मीद है। मुंबई में छह संसदीय क्षेत्र हैं जहां सोमवार को मतदान होगा।

मुंबई शहर के दो निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों में शांतिपूर्ण मतदान सुनिश्चित करने के लिए सभी तैयारियां की जा रही हैं। जिला चुनाव अधिकारी संजय यादव ने मुंबई दक्षिण और मुंबई दक्षिण मध्य के मतदाताओं से लोकतंत्र के इस उत्सव में भाग लेने के लिए बड़ी संख्या में आने का आग्रह किया है। एक संवाददाता सम्मेलन को संबोधित करते हुए श्री यादव ने बताया कि शहर में 24 लाख 90 हजार 238 मतदाता हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि शेड, पेयजल, रैंप आदि आवश्यक सुविधाओं के साथ दो हजार 520 मतदान केंद्र स्थापित किए गए हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि 15 हजार मतदान अधिकारियों को तैनात किया गया है और मतदाता पर्चियां वितरित करने का काम भी चल रहा है।

मुंबई पुलिस ने घाटकोपर होर्डिंग ढहने की घटना के मुख्य आरोपी भावेश भिड़े को गिरफ्तार कर लिया है। भावेश ईगो मीडिया प्राइवेट लिमिटेड का मालिक है, जिसने अवैध रूप से विशाल होर्डिंग लगाई थी, जो सोमवार को अचानक धूल भरी आंधी के दौरान ढह गई, इस घटना में 16 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 75 लोग घायल हो गए। भिड़े को उदयपुर से गिरफ्तार किया गया और आज मुंबई की एक अदालत में पेश किए जाने की संभावना है।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी की वरिष्ठ नेता और वित्त मंत्री निर्मला सीतारमन कल कोलकाता में बिशिष्ठ नागरिक सम्मेलन नामक सम्मेलन में शामिल हुईं। उन्होंने कहा कि पश्चिम बंगाल की सत्ताधारी पार्टी ने इस राज्य की अर्थव्यवस्था को बहुत निचले स्तर पर पहुंचा दिया है। श्रीमती सीतारामन ने कहा कि बंगाल कभी देश का नेतृत्व करता था। उन्होंने तृणमूल कांग्रेस के भ्रष्टाचार के बारे में बात की और लोगों से हालात बदलने का आग्रह किया।

Bengaluru is expected to have partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The minimum temperature is 22 degrees Celsius and maximum will be around 31 degrees.

Hyderabad is expected to have generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The temperature will hover between a minimum of 27 degrees and a maximum of 37 degrees Celsius.

भारतीय सेना ने उड़ीसा के व्हीलर्स द्वीप स्थित इंटीग्रेटेड टेस्ट रेंज [आइटीआर] से परमाणु हमला करने में सक्षम ‘अग्नि-2’ प्रक्षेपास्त्र का परीक्षण किया। यह मिसाइल दो हज़ार किलोमीटर तक मार कर सकती है। गए हैं। ‘अग्नि-2’ का विकास रक्षा विकास और अनुसंधान संगठन [डीआरडीओ] की प्रयोगशालाओं और भारत डायनेमिक्स, हैदराबाद के साथ किया गया है।

आज विश्व दूरसंचार दिवस है। यह प्रत्येक वर्ष ’17 मई’ को मनाया जाता है। आधुनिक युग में फोन, मोबाइल और इंटरनेट लोगों की प्रथम आवश्यकता बन गये हैं। इसके बिना जीवन की कल्पना करना बहुत ही मुश्किल हो चुका है। आज यह इंसान के व्यक्तिगत जीवन से लेकर व्यावसायिक जीवन में पूरी तक प्रवेश कर चुका है। पहले जहाँ किसी से संपर्क साधने के लिए लोगों को काफ़ी मशक्कत करनी पड़ती थी, वहीं आज मोबाइल और इंटरनेट ने इसे बहुत ही आसान बना दिया है। व्यक्ति कुछ ही सेकेंड में बेहद असानी से दोस्तों, परिवार और सगे संबधियों से संपर्क साध सकता है। यह दूरसंचार की क्रांति है, जिसकी बदौलत भारत जैसे कुछ विकासशील देशों की गिनती भी विश्व के कुछ ऐसे देशों में होती है, जिनकी अर्थव्यवस्था तेज़ी से रफ्तार पकड़ रही है। विश्व दूरसंचार दिवस’ मनाने की परंपरा 17 मई, 1865 में शुरू हुई थी, लेकिन आधुनिक समय में इसकी शुरुआत 1969 में हुई। तभी से पूरे विश्व में इसे हर्षोल्लास के साथ मनाया जाता है।

World Hypertension Day (WHD) is a day designated and initiated by The World Hypertension League (WHL), which is itself an umbrella to organizations of 85 national hypertension societies and leagues. The day was initiated to increase the awareness of hypertension. This was especially important because of the lack of appropriate knowledge among hypertensive patients. The WHL launched its first WHD on May 14, 2005. Since 2006, the WHL has been dedicating May 17 of every year as WHD.[2]In 2005, as the inaugural effort, the theme was simply “Awareness of high blood pressure”.[The 2006 theme was “Treat to goal”, with a focus on keeping blood pressure under control.The recommended blood pressures are less than 140/90 mmHg for the general population and for the hypertensive population without any other complications, and less than 130/80 mmHg for those with diabetes mellitus or chronic kidney disease. These are the cut-off values recommended by international and Canadian guidelines. The 2007 WHD theme was “Healthy diet, healthy blood pressure”. Through such specific themes, the WHL intends to raise awareness not only of hypertension, but also of factors contributing to an increase in the incidence of hypertension and on ways to prevent it. In an effort to empower the public, the theme for 2008 was “Measure your blood pressure…at home”. Recent reports confirm the ease, accuracy and safety of blood pressure measurements using home monitors.For the five-year period 2013-2018, the theme of WHD was “Know Your Numbers” with the goal of increasing high blood pressure awareness in all populations around the world.

वर्ल्ड हाइपरटेंशन डे पहली बार साल 2005 में वर्ल्ड हाइपरटेंशन लीग द्वारा मनाया गया था। इस दिन को मनाने का उद्देश्य यह है कि लोगों को हाई ब्लड प्रेशर के खतरों के बारे में बताया जाए और इसे कंट्रोल करने व ठीक करने के तरीकों के बारे में जागरूक किया जाए।

देर रात को भोजन करना, स्मार्टफोन पर लंबे वक्त तक समय बिताना, शारीरिक व्यायाम ना करने के चलते हाइपरटेंशन की समस्या होने लगती है। इसके अलावा स्ट्रेस, गलत खानपान और आधुनिक जीवनशैली के कारण हाइपरटेंशन हो सकता है। हाइपरटेंशन में चक्कर आना, धमनियों में रक्त का दबाव बढ़ जाना, सिर दर्द की शिकायत शुरू होती है। ये सब हाइपरटेंशन के लक्षण हैं। इसके अलावा बेचैनी, थकान, अनिंद्रा, गुस्सा आना शुरू हो जाता है। हाइपरटेंशन के कारण व्यक्ति शारीरिक एवं मानसिक रूप से परेशान हो जाता है।

आज पुण्य तिथि है चित्तरत पूवक्कट्ट कृष्णन नायर की। वे जाने माने व्यावसायी थे। भारतीय सेना से अपना कॅरियर शुरू करने वाले नायर ने शुरुआत में टेक्सटाइल इकाई स्थापित की थी। बाद में वर्ष 1981 में उन्होंने होटल एवं रिसोर्ट ब्रांड की लक्जरी हॉस्पिटैलिटी चेन शुरू की थी।

सी. पी. कृष्णन नायर जन्म से ही विद्रोही स्वभाव के थे और 13 वर्ष की उम्र में स्वतंत्रता आंदोलन में कूद पड़े थे। भारतीय सेना में एक कैप्टन के तौर पर सी. पी. कृष्णन नायर ने अपना करियर शुरू किया था। उनकी पहली पोस्टिंग एबटाबाद (पाकिस्तान) में वायरलैस ऑफिसर के रूप में हुई थी और उनका काम दो मुख्य धुरी ताकतों जर्मनी और जापान के बीच संदेशों को पकडऩा था। वर्ष 1952 में उन्होंने रिटायरमेंट ले लिया और आर्मी कमांडर जनरल के एडीसी व प्रिंसिपल ऑफिसर बन गए, लेकिन बाद में उन्होंने आर्मी को पूरी तरह अलविदा कहते हुए अपने ससुर की टेक्सटाइल इंडस्ट्री जॉइन कर ली। नायर ने ‘ऑल इंडिया हैंडलूम बोर्ड’ की स्थापना और हैंडलूम को विश्व स्तरीय बनाने में मदद की थी। उन्हें भारत से सबसे अधिक कपड़ा निर्यात करने के लिए ‘भारत सरकार’ ने सम्मानित किया था। ‘पद्म भूषण’ से सम्मानित नायर को कई राष्ट्रीय और अंतर्राष्ट्रीय अवार्ड भी मिल चुके हैं।

आज पुण्य तिथि है कृष्ण कुमार अग्रवाल की। वे जाने माने भारतीय चिकित्सक और हृदय रोग विशेषज्ञ थे, जो भारत के हार्ट केयर फाउंडेशन के अध्यक्ष तथा गैर सरकारी संगठन के पूर्व राष्ट्रीय अध्यक्ष रहे। डॉ. के. के. अग्रवाल को भारत सरकार ने दवा के क्षेत्र में उनके योगदान के लिए देश के चौथे उच्चतम नागरिक पुरस्कार पद्म श्री से 2010 में सम्मानित किया था। कोरोना के दौरान भी वह लोगों को फ्री ओपीडी सेवा दे रहे थे। इतना ही नहीं वह लगातार लोगों को कोरोना के प्रति जागरूक करने के साथ-साथ उससे बचाव और इम्युनिटी को किस तरीके से मजबूत किया जा सके, इसको लेकर लगातार सोशल मीडिया पर वीडियो भी जारी करते रहे।

Shyam Ramsay (17 May 1952 – 18 September 2019)[1] was a Bollywood film director. He was one of the seven Ramsay Brothers who were active in Indian cinema throughout the 1970s and the 1980s. Shyam Ramsay was considered the main artist and head of this group. They produced a number of horror movies such as Darwaza (1978), Purana Mandir (1984), and Veerana (1988).Their popularity waned towards the end of the 1980s, as Ramsay started diverting his creative energy and focus on television programming which was in demand because of the multiple private channels such as Zee TV, Star Plus etc. that were launched in the early nineties in India. He started India’s first horror TV series for Zee TV – Zee Horror Show. It was a huge hit and its popularity is proved by the various communities created in its memory on social networking communities like Facebook & Orkut by its fans.After Zee Horror Show, he made a few episodes of Saturday Suspense, X Zone and Nagin for Zee TV. In 2008, he along with his daughter, Saasha Ramsay, directed a supernatural series based on the concept of wishful female serpent for Sahara One, called Neeli Aankhen.Shyam Ramsay came back to feature films from the year 2000 when he started the production of Dhund.

आज जयंती है धीरेन्द्र वर्मा की। वे हिन्दी और ब्रजभाषा के प्रसिद्ध कवि तथा लेखक थे। जो कार्य हिन्दी समीक्षा के क्षेत्र में आचार्य रामचन्द्र शुक्ल ने किया, वही कार्य हिन्दी शोध के क्षेत्र में डॉ. धीरेन्द्र वर्मा ने किया था। धीरेन्द्र वर्मा जहाँ एक तरफ़ हिन्दी विभाग के उत्कृष्ट व्यवस्थापक रहे, वहीं दूसरी ओर एक आदर्श प्राध्यापक भी थे। भारतीय भाषाओं से सम्बद्ध समस्त शोध कार्य के आधार पर उन्होंने 1933 ई. में हिन्दी भाषा का प्रथम वैज्ञानिक इतिहास लिखा था। फ्रेंच भाषा में उनका ब्रजभाषा पर शोध प्रबन्ध है, जिसका अब हिन्दी अनुवाद हो चुका है।

जो कार्य हिन्दी समीक्षा के क्षेत्र में आचार्य रामचंद्र शुक्ल जी ने किया था, वही कार्य हिन्दी शोध के क्षेत्र में धीरेन्द्र जी ने किया। उनकी चिंतन शैली अत्यन्त संश्लिष्ट है। भाषा और साहित्य को इन्होंने हमेशा संस्कृति के व्यापक परिवेश में ग्रहण किया है। आधुनिक समय में ‘मध्यदेश’ को एक भौगोलिक तथा सांस्कृतिक इकाई के रूप में पुनरन्वेषित करने का श्रेय धीरेन्द्र वर्मा को है। एक ओर ये हिन्दी विभाग के उत्कृष्ट व्यवस्थापक रहे हैं और दूसरी ओर एक आदर्श प्राध्यापक भी। स्नातक और स्नातकोत्तर परीक्षाओं के पाठ्यक्रम के निर्धारण, नियोजन और व्यवस्थापन में जो विशद कार्य श्यामसुन्दर दास ने किया था, उसे उन्होंने वैशिष्टय प्रदान किया। पाठ्यक्रम में भाषा और साहित्य की व्यापकता को ध्यातव्य मानकर उसे नवीन गति प्रदान की। इनकी अध्यापन शैली अत्यन्त व्यवस्थापूर्ण, सुस्पष्ट और क्रमिक विवेचनायुक्त रही है। भाषा-विज्ञान जैसे विषय को भी ये सरल सुबोध बनाकर प्रस्तुत करते थे। हिन्दी भाषा और साहित्य के इतिहास को लेकर इनकी जैसी स्वस्थ और स्पष्ट दृष्टि कम ही देखने को मिलती है।

धीरेन्द्र वर्मा के निबन्धों के आधार पर अनेक गम्भीर शोध कार्य हुए हैं। भारतीय भाषाओं से संबद्ध समस्त शोध कार्यों के आधार पर इन्होंने 1933 ई. में हिन्दी भाषा का प्रथम वैज्ञानिक इतिहास लिखा था। सन 1934 ई. में ये पेरिस गये और प्रसिद्ध भाषा वैज्ञानिक ज्यूल ब्लॉख के निर्देशन में पेरिस यूनिवर्सिटी से डी. लिट्. की उपाधि प्राप्त की। हिन्दुस्तानी अकादमी के सन 1927 ई. से ही सदस्य रहे और दीर्घकाल तक उसके मंत्री भी। सन 1958-1959 में लिंग्विस्टिक सोसायटी ऑफ़ इंडिया के अध्यक्ष पद पर भी आप रहे। धीरेन्द्र वर्मा प्रथम ‘हिन्दी विश्वकोश’ के प्रधान संपादक रहे हैं।

डॉ. धीरेन्द्र वर्मा की कृतियाँ अनेक और बहुविध हैं। ‘हिन्दी भाषा का इतिहास’ अपने समय तक के आधुनिक भाषाओं से सम्बन्धित खोज कार्य के गंभीर अनुशीलन के आधार पर लिखा हुआ हिन्दी भाषा का प्रथम वैज्ञानिक एवं महत्त्वपूर्ण इतिहास है। फ्रेंच भाषा में ब्रजभाषा पर शोध प्रबन्ध, जिसका अब हिन्दी अनुवाद हो चुका है, ‘हिन्दी भाषा और लिपि’, ‘हिन्दी भाषा का इतिहास’ की भूमिका का स्वतंत्र रूप है। हिन्दुस्तानी अकादमी ने इसे 1935 में प्रकाशित किया था। इमुख्य रचनाएँ’ब्रजभाषा व्याकरण’, ‘सूरसागर-सार’, ‘मध्यदेश’, ‘हिन्दी साहित्य कोश’ ‘यूरोप के पत्र’ आदि।

आज ही जयंती है प्रीति गांगुली की। वे हिंदी सिनेमा की चरित्र अभिनेत्री थीं, जिन्होंने 1970 और 1980 के दशक में बॉलीवुड में कई कॉमिक भूमिकाएं निभाई थीं। प्रीति गांगुली का जन्म 17 मई, 1953 को मुम्बई, महाराष्ट्र में हुआ था।

वह प्रसिद्ध भारतीय फ़िल्म अभिनेता अशोक कुमार और शोभा देवी की बेटी थीं। गायक किशोर कुमार और अभिनेता अनूप कुमार उनके चाचा थे। रूपा गांगुली और अरुप गांगुली उनके भाई-बहन हैं। वह बेहद प्रतिभाशाली थीं और कॉमेडी भूमिकाओं में बहुत अच्छी तरह से प्रदर्शन करती थीं।

1993 में उन्होंने अपने पिता ‘अशोक कुमार की अकादमी ऑफ़ नाटक कला’ के नाम पर एक अभिनय स्कूल की शुरुआत की। प्रीति गांगुली का निधन 2 दिसंबर, 2012 को मुंबई में हो गया।

Pankaj Udhas was an Indian ghazal and playback singer known for his works in Hindi cinema, and Indian pop. He started his career with the release of a ghazal album titled Aahat in 1980 and subsequently recorded many hits like Mukarar in 1981, Tarrannum in 1982, Mehfil in 1983, Pankaj Udhas Live at Royal Albert Hall in 1984, Nayaab in 1985 and Aafreen in 1986. After his success as a ghazal singer, he was invited to appear and sing for a film by Mahesh Bhatt, Naam, in which his song “Chitthi Aayee Hai” (A Letter Has Arrived) became an instant hit. He did playback singing for many Hindi films after that. Albums and live concerts around the globe brought him fame as a singer. In 2006, Pankaj Udhas was awarded Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award. His brothers Nirmal Udhas and Manhar Udhas are also singers.

A song titled Chandi Jaisa Rang hai tera, sone jaise bal (i.e. Your colour is like silver, your hair is like gold) was sung by Pankaj Udhas. Pankaj Udhas’ older brother, Manhar Udhas was a stage performer who aided Pankaj in his introduction to musical performance. His first stage performance was during the Sino-Indian War, when he sang “Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo” and was given Rs. 51 by an audience member as a Four years later he joined the Sangeet Natya Academy in Rajkot and learned the nuances of playing the tabla. After that, he pursued a Bachelor of Science degree at Wilson College and St Xavier’s college, Mumbai and started training in Indian classical vocal music under the tutelage of Master Navrang. Udhas’s first song was in the film “Kamna” a solo composed by Usha Khanna and written by Naqsh Lyallpuri, the film was a flop, but his rendition was very much appreciated. Subsequently, Udhas developed an interest in ghazals and learned Urdu to try to pursue a career as a ghazal singer. He spent ten months in Canada and the US doing ghazal concerts and returned to India with renewed vigour and confidence. His first ghazal album, Aahat, was released in 1980. From this, he began to have success and, as of 2011 he had released more than fifty albums and hundreds of compilation albums.

In 1986, Udhas received another opportunity to perform in film, in the film Naam, which brought him fame. In 1990, he sang the melodious duet “Mahiya Teri Kasam” with Lata Mangeshkar, for the movie Ghayal. This song achieved immense popularity. In 1994, Udhas sang the notable song, “Na Kajre Ki Dhar”, from the film Mohra along with Sadhana Sargam which also became very popular. He continued working as a playback singer, making some on-screen appearances in films such as Saajan, Yeh Dillagi, Naam and Phir Teri Kahaani Yaad Aayee. His album Shagufta launched by Music India in December 1987 was the first to be released on compact disc in India.Later, Udhas started a talent hunt television program called Aadab Aarz Hai on Sony Entertainment Television. Actor John Abraham calls Udhas his mentor. Udhas’s ghazals talk about love, intoxication and sharab.

पंकज उदास ने न केवल गली-मोहल्लों, चौक-चौराहों, छोटी जगह के लोगों के दिलों को ग़ज़ल के सुकून से परिचित कराया, बल्कि आम आदमी के दुख-दर्द को पहचानने वाली आवाज भी बने। एक दौर था जब ‘चिट्ठी आई है’ जैसी ग़ज़ल गाकर पंकज उदास ने बेशुमार लोकप्रियता कमाई और वे उस दौर में रेडियो के माध्यम से हर घर में गूंजने वाली आवाज बन गए। पंकज उदास देश-परदेस में रहने वाले और अपने देश को छोड़कर काम काज करने वाले व्यक्ति के दर्द की आवाज थे।
