The government has asked the citizen to avoid those fake calls wherein callers threaten to disconnect their mobile numbers. Department of Telecommunications has issued an advisory urging citizen to not to take such fake calls. The Department has also issued advisory about WhatsApp calls from foreign origin mobile numbers impersonating government officials and duping the people. It also advised citizens to report such incidents at cyber-crime helpline number 1930.

देश की सबसे बड़ी कौशल प्रतियोगिता आज से नई दिल्ली में शुरू हो रही है। इसमें उच्च कौशल मानकों को प्रदर्शन होगा। कौशल विकास और उद्यमशीलता मंत्रालय ने कहा कि इंडियास्किल्स प्रतियोगिता में 30 से अधिक राज्य और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों के नौ सौ से अधिक छात्र भाग लेंगे। विभिन्न उद्योगों के चार सौ से अधिक विशेषज्ञ भी इसमें हिस्सा लेंगे। चार दिन की प्रतियोगिता में प्रतिभागियों को पारंपरिक शिल्प से लेकर अत्याधुनिक तकनीक तक के 61 क्षेत्रों में विविधतापूर्ण कौशल और प्रतिभा दिखाने का अवसर मिलेगा।

US President Joe Biden has imposed heavy tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, batteries, steel, solar cells, and aluminium, saying it would ensure that American workers are not held back by unfair trade practices. These include a 100 per cent tariff on electric vehicles, a 50 per cent tariff on semiconductors, and a 25 per cent tariff each on electric vehicle batteries from China. In his address to the nation from the Rose Garden of the White House, Mr Biden said US can continue to buy any kind of car they want, but it will never allow China to unfairly control the market for these cars. He said US wants fair competition with China, not conflict. He said Washington is in a stronger position to win that economic competition of the 21st century against China than anyone else.
Mr Biden alleged that for years, the Chinese government has poured state money into Chinese companies across a whole range of industries: steel and aluminium, semiconductors, electric vehicles, solar panels, and even critical health equipment, like gloves and masks.
The tariff increase will cover 18 billion dollars in Chinese products. Tariffs on EVs, steel and aluminum, and solar cells will take effect this year, and next year for chips.
United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai said the administration has provided pre-notification to Beijing.

मौसम विभाग ने कहा है कि आज कोंकण के विभिन्न भागों में भीषण गर्मी जारी रहने की संभावना है। पश्चिमी राजस्थान में आज से शनिवार तक भीषण गर्मी पड़ने का अनुमान है। उत्तर प्रदेश, पंजाब, हरियाणा के दक्षिणी भाग और बिहार में भी बृहस्पतिवार से अगले तीन दिनों तक भीषण गर्मी का दौर जारी रहने का अनुमान है।
मौसम विभाग ने कहा कि 18 मई तक देश के दक्षिणी क्षेत्रों में गरज के साथ तेज वर्षा जारी रहने की संभावना है। मध्य और पूर्वी भारत में भी आज गरज के साथ तेज बारिश होने की संभावना है।

The Indian men’s hockey team left for Antwerp, Belgium for the European leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League. Indian Captain Harmanpreet Singh has emphasised the significance of the tournament in terms of preparation for Paris Olympics in July. According to him, it will not only give insights into their own game and how they are faring as a unit but the matches will also provide them insights into the opponents’ game.
India will begin their European leg on May 22 with their opening match against Argentina, followed by back-to-back matches against Belgium on May 23 and May 25. They will take on Argentina again on May 26 before moving on to the final leg in London where they play Germany on June 1 and 8 and take on hosts Great Britain on June 2 and 9.

Manika, the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medalist in individual and team categories, jumped 15 spots following her run in Jeddah, where she reached the quarterfinals.

Tamilnadu has stepped up surveillance in border districts after death and cases of West Nile Virus were reported in Kerala. The Directorate of Public health has asked officials in border districts to step up fever surveillance and insisted that people must seek medical attention if they have symptoms of the disease. The Directorate of public health has said that some patients may develop a fever, headache, body aches, joint pain, vomiting and rash. While most people fully recover some may experience ongoing weakness and fatigue or more severe complications. Complications also include inflammation of the brain known as encephalitis or of the membranes or of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord known as meningitis.

The 5th Tamilnadu State Youth Athletic Championships for under 20 and 23 years will be held at Tamilnadu Sports University on the 18th and 19th of this month. Nearly 1200 competitors will compete in this two day event. 59 events in the boys section and 57 in the Girls section is being planned from 5.30 am to 6.00 pm The winners will get a merit certificate and medals.

BENGALURU METRO
The Karnataka High Court has awarded eight lakh rupees compensation to the family of a woman who died in a train accident. The victim Jayamma and her sister Rathnamma had purchased tickets to Mysuru by Tirupati passenger train but by mistake they boarded Tuticorin Express. The sisters realised their mistake after the train started moving and jumped on the platform from the moving train. Jayamma succumbed to the injuries. The incident happened in 2014 and the family had moved the Railway Claims Tribunal. In 2016, the tribunal rejected the petition saying that the passengers should have pulled the alarm chain or deboarded in the next station. It pointed out that suicide and self inflicted injuries cannot be compensated. When the family members appealed before the High Court, Justice H P Sandesh ruled after the hearing that the Tribunal is wrong in defining the death as due to self-inflicted injury. He quoted the Supreme Court judgement which says that death or injury in the course of boarding and deboarding a train is an untoward incident and needs to be compensated.

In Telangana, a total 66.3 per cent voters cast their vote in all 17 lok sabha constituencies and a bye election of Secunderabad cantonment assembly segment in the incident-free polling. revealing the details, chief electoral officer vikas raj informed that a total of 2 crore 20 lakh 24 thousand 806 voters out of over 3 crore 32 lakh electors have participated in voting, which is 66.3 per cent of the total electorate. out of them, over 2 lakh 10 thousand voters exercised their franchise in voter facilitation centers, postal voting centres and through home voting. the 65.67 per cent votes polled at polling stations is almost 3 per cent higher compared to the voting of the 2019 elections.

दिल्ली की सात लोकसभा सीटों पर राजनीतिक सरगर्मी तेज हो गई है और प्रमुख राजनीतिक दलों के वरिष्ठ नेता मतदाताओं को लुभाने के लिए रैलियां, सार्वजनिक बैठकें और रोड शो कर रही हैं। भाजपा नेता और मध्य प्रदेश के पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री शिवराज सिंह चौहान ने उत्तर-पूर्वी दिल्ली सीट से चुनाव लड़ रहे भाजपा उम्मीदवार मनोज तिवारी के पक्ष में कल कमला नगर इलाके में एक जनसभा की। वहीं, असम के मुख्यमंत्री और भाजपा नेता हेमंत बिस्वा सरमा ने पूर्वी दिल्ली संसदीय क्षेत्र से पार्टी के उम्मीदवार हर्ष मल्होत्रा के पक्ष में लक्ष्मी नगर इलाके में एक बैठक को संबोधित किया।
भाजपा नेता और मध्य प्रदेश के मुख्यमंत्री मोहन यादव ने भी पश्चिमी दिल्ली लोकसभा सीट से भाजपा प्रत्याशी कमलजीत सहरावत के समर्थन में मटियाला में रोड शो किया। नई दिल्ली संसदीय क्षेत्र से भाजपा उम्मीदवार बांसुरी स्वराज ने वसंत विहार में घर-घर जाकर प्रचार किया। वहीं, चांदनी चौक सीट से बीजेपी उम्मीदवार प्रवीण खंडेलवाल ने पहाड़गंज में व्यापारियों के साथ बैठक की।
उधर, आम आदमी पार्टी के वरिष्ठ नेता और राज्यसभा सांसद संजय सिंह ने पश्चिमी दिल्ली लोकसभा सीट से पार्टी के उम्मीदवार महाबल मिश्रा के पक्ष में एक जनसभा को संबोधित किया। नई दिल्ली लोकसभा सीट से आम आदमी पार्टी के उम्मीदवार सोमनाथ भारती ने करोल बाग इलाके में एक जनसभा की। पूर्वी दिल्ली सीट पर आम आदमी पार्टी के उम्मीदवार कुलदीप कुमार ने गांधी नगर इलाके में रोड शो किया।
इस बीच, उत्तर पूर्वी दिल्ली सीट से कांग्रेस उम्मीदवार कन्हैया कुमार ने गोकुलपुरी और गंगा विहार इलाकों में पदयात्रा की। चांदनी चौक लोकसभा सीट से कांग्रेस प्रत्याशी जय प्रकाश अग्रवाल ने वजीरपुर जेजे कॉलोनी में पदयात्रा की। दिल्ली की सात लोकसभा सीटों पर कुल 162 उम्मीदवार मैदान में हैं। दिल्ली में 25 मई को मतदान होगा और वोटों की गिनती 4 जून को होगी।
दिल्ली ऑप्रेशन
दिल्ली पुलिस ने ऑप्रेशन मिलाप के तहत एक वृद्ध महिला को उसके परिजनों से मिलवाया है। 68 वर्षीय यह महिला असम से अपने परिजनों के साथ दिल्ली घूमने आई थी और लाल किला घूमने के दौरान लापता हो गई थी। उत्तरी जिले के पुलिस उपायुक्त मनोज कुमार मीणा ने बताया कि महिला के लापता होने की सूचना पर थाना कोतवाली की पुलिस टीम ने तत्परता दिखाई और महिला को लाल किला क्षेत्र से ही तलाश कर एक वृद्ध आश्रम में भेज दिया। बाद में पुलिस टीम ने महिला को उसके परिवार को सौंपा। परिवार ने दिल्ली पुलिस का आभार व्यक्त किया है।

महाराष्ट्र
निर्वाचन आयोग ने महाराष्ट्र विधान परिषद की चार सीटों के द्विवार्षिक चुनाव स्थगित कर दिए हैं। आधिकारिक प्रेस विज्ञप्ति के अनुसार इन सीटों पर चुनाव गर्मी की छुट्टियों के बाद कराने के अनुरोध पर यह निर्णय लिया गया है। चुनाव आयोग ने पिछले सप्ताह इन चुनावों की घोषणा की थी। इनमें दो शिक्षक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र और दो स्नातक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र हैं। अब चुनाव 10 जून को होंगे। इनमें नासिक मंडल शिक्षक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र, मुंबई मंडल शिक्षक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र, कोंकण स्नातक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र और मुंबई मंडल स्नातक निर्वाचन क्षेत्र शामिल हैं। इन सीटों के मौजूदा प्रतिनिधियों का कार्यकाल 7 जुलाई को समाप्त होगा।

विभिन्न तेल वितरण कंपनियां कोलकाता सहित पश्चिम बंगाल में एलपीजी ग्राहकों के साथ आधार कार्ड को जोड़ने की प्रक्रिया शुरू करेंगी। फिलहाल पूरे भारत में यह 20 प्रतिशत है। पूरा ऑपरेशन पश्चिम बंगाल में होम विजिट के जरिए किया जाएगा। किसी को कतार में खड़ा नहीं होना पडेगा।

सीयूईटी-दिल्ली
विश्विद्यालय स्तर के स्नातक पाठ्यक्रमों में प्रवेश के लिए आज दिल्ली के केंद्रों पर होने वाली संयुक्त विश्वविद्यालय प्रवेश परीक्षा-सीयूईटी अपरिहार्य कारणों से स्थगित कर दी गई है। राष्ट्रीय परीक्षा एजेंसी ने कहा कि अब यह परीक्षा 29 मई को आयोजित की जाएगी। नए प्रवेश पत्र जल्द ही जारी किए जाएंगे। एजेंसी ने कहा कि आज दिल्ली के केंद्रों में होने वाली रसायन विज्ञान, जीव विज्ञान, अंग्रेजी और सामान्य विषयों की परीक्षाओं को स्थगित किया गया है।
राष्ट्रीय परीक्षा एजेंसी ने कहा कि दिल्ली के अलावा सभी अन्य शहरों में परीक्षा, पू्र्व निर्धारित कार्यक्रम के अनुसार होगी।

पुण्यतिथि/जन्मतिथि/जयंती
1907 में आज ही के दिन भगत सिंह और राजगुरु के साथ फांसी पर लटकने वाले सुखदेव थापर का जन्म हुआ था।
बचपन से ही सुखदेव ने ब्रिटिश राज के अत्याचारों को देखा और समझना शुरू कर दिया था, जिस कारण इन्हें अपने देश में स्वतंत्रता की आवश्यकता बहुत पहले ही समझ आ गई थी। 1919 में जब सुखदेव महज 12 वर्ष के थे तो अमृतसर के जलियांवाला बाग में हुए भीषण नरसंहार का स्कूली बालक सुखदेव के मन पर बहुत गहरा असर हुआ। स्कूल की पढ़ाई समाप्त करने के बाद इन्होंने 1922 लाहौर के नेशनल कॉलेज में प्रवेश लिया, जहां भगत सिंह से इनकी मुलाकात हुई। दोनों एक ही राह के पथिक थे, अत: शीघ्र ही दोनों का परिचय गहरी दोस्ती में बदल गया और देश के लिए सर्वोच्च न्योछावर करने तक साथ रहे।
He belonged to a Punjabi Khatri family of the Hindu community and he was brought up by his uncle Lala Achintram after the death of his father.
Sukhdev Thapar was a member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and the Naujawan Bharat Sabha. He also initiated revolutionary movements in Punjab and other regions of northern India. He was the chief of the Punjab unit of the HSRA and was instrumental in making decisions.
Sukhdev took part in a number of revolutionary events, including a prison hunger strike in 1929. He is widely known for his assaults in the Lahore Conspiracy Case (1929-1930). He is well known for his role in the assassination of Assistant Superintendent of Police J. P. Saunders on 17 December 1928, by Bhagat Singh and Shivaram Rajguru, the assassination carried out in retaliation for the senior leader Lala Lajpat Rai’s horrific death.
1926 में लाहौर में सुखदेव, भगत सिंह, यशपाल, भगवती चरण व जयचन्द्र विद्यालंकार ने ‘नौजवान भारत सभा’ का गठन किया। प्रारंभ में इसका काम नौतिक कार्यक्रम, साहित्यिक तथा सामाजिक विचारों पर विचार गोष्ठियों, स्वदेशी वस्तुओं, देश की एकता, सादा जीवन, शारीरिक व्यायाम तथा भारतीय संस्कृति इत्यादि पहलुओं पर चर्चा करना था।

अल्लूरी सीताराम राजू (अंग्रेज़ी: Alluri Sitarama Raju; जन्म: 15 मई, 1897, विशाखापट्टनम; शहादत- 7 मई, 1924) भारत की आज़ादी के लिए अपने प्राणों का बलिदान करने वाले वीर क्रांतिकारी शहीदों में से एक थे। उन्हें औपचारिक शिक्षा बहुत कम मिल पाई थी। अपने एक संबंधी के संपर्क से वे अध्यात्म की ओर आकृष्ट हुए तथा 18 वर्ष की उम्र में ही साधु बन गए। सन 1920 में अल्लूरी सीताराम पर महात्मा गांधी के विचारों का बहुत प्रभाव पड़ा और उन्होंने आदिवासियों को मद्यपान छोड़ने तथा अपने विवाद पंचायतों में हल करने की सलाह दी। किंतु जब एक वर्ष में स्वराज्य प्राप्ति का गांधी जी का स्वप्न साकार नहीं हुआ तो सीताराम राजू ने अपने अनुयायी आदिवासियों की सहायता से अंग्रेज़ों के विरुद्ध सशस्त्र विद्रोह करके स्वतंत्र सत्ता स्थापित करने के प्रयत्न आंरभ कर दिए।

Debendranath Tagore (15 May 1817 – 19 January 1905) was an Indian philosopher and religious reformer, active in the Brahmo Samaj. He joined Brahmo samaj in 1842. He was the founder in 1848 of the Brahmo religion, which today is synonymous with Brahmoism.
उन्होंने बंगाल के विविध भागों में शिक्षा संस्थाएँ खोलने में मदद की। उन्होंने 1863 ई. में बोलपुर में एकांतवास के लिए 20 बीघा ज़मीन ख़रीदी और वहाँ गहरी आत्मिक शान्ति अनुभव करने के कारण उसका नाम ‘शान्ति निकेतन’ रख दिया और 1886 ई. में उसे एक ट्रस्ट के सुपुर्द कर दिया। यहीं पर बाद में उनके स्वनामधन्य पुत्र रवीन्द्रनाथ टैगोर ने विश्वभारती की स्थापना की।
Debendranath Tagore was born to the famous industrialist Dwarakanath Tagore, who was called ‘Prince’ because of his extravagant lifestyle, and Digambari Devi, a very pious lady, in the Tagore family in Jorasanko, popularly known as Jorasanko Thakur Bari in North-western Kolkata, which was later converted into a campus of the Rabindra Bharati University. The Tagore family, with over three hundred years of history, has been one of the leading families of Calcutta, and is regarded as a key influence during the Bengal Renaissance. The family has produced several persons who have contributed substantially in the fields of business, social and religious reformation, literature, art and music. His siblings were Girindranath Tagore (b.1820) and Nagendranath Tagore (b.1829).
Debendranath studied at home from 1820-27. In 1829, he was admitted to the Anglo Hindu College established by Raja Rammohan Roy.

1993 में आज ही के दिन भारत के प्रथम आर्मी कमांडर इन चीफ फील्ड मार्शल के.एम. करिअप्पा का निधन हुआ था।
के.एम. करियप्पा के नाम से मशहूर कोडनान मडप्पा करियप्पा भारत के पहले चीफ ऑफ आर्मी स्टाफ थे. इनका निकनेम किपर था। 30 साल की सर्विस की उन्होंने. 15 जनवरी 1949 में उन्हें सेना प्रमुख नियुक्त किया गया. इसके बाद से ही 15 जनवरी को ‘सेना दिवस’ के रूप में मनाया जाता है. करियप्पा राजपूत रेजिमेन्ट से थे. वो 1953 में रिटायर हो गये, फिर भी किसी न किसी रूप में भारतीय सेना को सहयोग देते रहे. 28 जनवरी 1899 को कर्नाटक के कोडागू में उनका जन्म हुआ था. और 15 मई 1993 को उन्होंने आखिरी सांस ली।

Nazir Hussain (15 May 1922 – 16 October 1987) was an Indian actor, director and screenwriter. He was famous as a character actor in Hindi cinema and acted in almost 500 films. Dev Anand starred in a large proportion of the films he acted in.
Nazir Hussain’s father Shahabzad Khan was a guard in the Railways and Hussain grew up in Lucknow. He himself worked as a fireman in the railways for few months and soon joined the British army during World War II. He was posted in Malaysia and Singapore where he became a prisoner of war. After being freed, he came under the influence of Subhas Chandra Bose and joined the Indian National Army (INA). He was accorded the status of freedom fighter and was given a free railway pass for life.
Film career
In Calcutta, he met Bimal Roy and became his assistant. He joined with Bimal Roy to make the film Pahela Aadmi, based on the INA experience. He not only acted in the film, but also wrote the story and co-wrote the dialogues for the film. Pehla Aadmi was released in 1950 and launched him to stardom and he became a permanent fixture in Bimal Roy’s movies. Later, he worked in many socialist themed films such as Do Bigha Zamin, Devdas and Naya Daur. Munimji, a 1955 Indian Hindi movie was the first film he did with actor Dev Anand. The story idea was by Ranjan, and screenplay and dialogues by Nazir Hussain. The team of Mukherjee, Nazir Hussain, Dev Anand and music director S.D. Burman later collaborated to produce another movie, Paying Guest, in 1957.
Main Sunder Hoon is a 1971 Hindi language drama film directed by R. Krishnan and Nazir Hussain.
Bhojpuri cinema
Hussain discussed the possibility of a Bhojpuri cinema industry with Indian president Rajendra Prasad. He is considered as the Pitamah of Bhojpuri cinema. Hussain created Ganga Maiyya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo (1963), the first Bhojpuri film. Nazir turned producer with Bhojpuri film Hamaar Sansar and also directed it. Hussain was also known for the hit Bhojpuri film Balam Pardesia in the late 1970s.

Shiney Suraj Ahuja (born 15 May 1973) is an Indian actor in Bollywood films. He won the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award for Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi in 2006 and then followed with several hit films like Gangster, Woh Lamhe, Life in a Metro, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, and Welcome Back.
Ahuja was born on 15 May 1973 into a Punjabi family in New Delhi, India. His mother is from Shimla, with her family originally from Sargoda and his father Suraj Ahuja, is from Sahiwal, both in modern day Pakistan. His father was a lieutenant in the Indian Army. Ahuja studied at St. Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Delhi, and Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, and attended Hansraj College of Delhi University followed by R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore. Later, he joined the theatre group “TAG” where he met Barry John. Shortly thereafter, he joined John’s acting school in Delhi.
After completing college, Ahuja secured his first commercial ad for Pepsi. This instantly brought him into consideration by the top ad agencies. Flooded with offers, he worked in over 40 ad films in that year, including Cadburys and Citibank. He also featured in the music video ‘Pyar ho Gaya’ for the British-Asian band “Stereo Nation.”
Sudhir Mishra, who was auditioning for a film by Pritish Nandy Communications, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, saw Shiney in the Pepsi commercial and called him to audition for Kay Kay’s character – Sidharth Tyabji. Upon his request, Mishra also auditioned him for the role of Vikram Malhotra. He was selected from over 200 aspirants for the role of Vikram Malhotra and made his acting debut in the film.

She was among the country’s highest-paid celebrities throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, and has featured in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list since its inception in 2012. Her accolades include six Filmfare Awards from a record 17 nominations. In 2008, the Government of India awarded her with Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honour of the country
Born and raised in Mumbai, Dixit made her acting debut in 1984 with a leading role in the drama Abodh. After a few successive commercially failed films, she rose to prominence with the action drama Tezaab (1988), and established herself with starring roles in the top-grossing romantic dramas Dil (1990), Beta (1992), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), and Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). She won four Filmfare Awards for Best Actress for her performances in them. Her other commercially successful films during this period include Ram Lakhan (1989), Tridev (1989), Thanedaar (1990), Kishen Kanhaiya (1990), Saajan (1991), Khalnayak (1993), and Raja (1995).

Apart from Dixit’s mainstream success, she earned appreciation from critics for her performances in Prem Pratigyaa (1989), Parinda (1989), Anjaam (1994), Mrityudand (1997), Pukar (2000), and Lajja (2001). She received the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for playing Chandramukhi in Devdas (2002). Following a hiatus, Dixit made a brief comeback by starring in the musical Aaja Nachle (2007), and acted intermittently over the next decades. Her highest-grossing release came with the adventure comedy Total Dhamaal (2019), and she continued to gain praise for starring in the black comedy Dedh Ishqiya (2014)
