The celebration of World Laughter Day is a positive manifestation for world peace and is intended to build up a global consciousness of brotherhood and friendship through laughter. It is most often celebrated by gatherings of people in public places with the sole purpose of laughing. Its popularity has grown exponentially with that of the Laughter Yoga movement now counting thousands of Laughter Clubs in more than 115 countries. And now it is celebrated worldwide.

Prime Minister and senior BJP leader Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive at Bhubaneswar this evening for an election campaign in Odisha for the Party. The Prime Minister, who will make a halt at the Raj Bhawan tonight, is slated to address two political rallies at Berhampur and Nabarangpur parliamentary constituencies on Monday. Security has been tightened in and around the airport and Raj Bhawan for the visit of Mr Modi to Bhubaneswar. The Prime Minister is again scheduled to visit Bhubaneswar on the 10th of this month to lead a massive roadshow and address a large public meeting at Balangir the next day. Odisha is going for simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections in four phases from the 13th of this month.

राष्ट्रीय परीक्षा एजेंसी-एनटीए ने चिकित्सा पाठ्यक्रमों में प्रवेश के लिए आज आयोजित होने वाली राष्ट्रीय पात्रता और प्रवेश परीक्षा-नीट के लिए सभी तैयारियां पूरी कर ली हैं। यह परीक्षा देशभर के पांच सौ 57 शहरों और देश से बाहर 14 शहरों के विभिन्न परीक्षा केंद्रों पर आयोजित होगी। इस परीक्षा में 24 लाख से अधिक परीक्षार्थी भाग लेंगे। परीक्षा दोपहर दो बजे से शाम पांच बजकर बीस मिनट तक चलेगी।

In Chhattisgarh, electioneering will end at 5 pm today in the 7 parliamentary constituencies where voting is to be held in the third phase of elections on the 7th of May. Various parties are trying their best to win over voters in their favour. Meanwhile, the Election Commission is making efforts to increase the voting percentage. Labourers from many districts of Chhattisgarh migrate to other states in search of work during summer. A campaign named “Ghar Aa Ja Sangi” has been launched in various districts to motivate such people to come back and vote on the 7th of May. District administration officials and employees contacted these people through phone and video calls and urged them to return to their villages or towns and vote. This campaign has made an impact and in many districts including Janjgir-Champa and Mungeli, about 20 thousand laborers have returned to exercise their franchise.

In Jammu and Kashmir, an IAF airman was martyred and five other soldiers were injured, one among them is stated to be critical, in Poonch district after a group of terrorists attacked the IAF convoy yesterday. Akashvani Jammu Correspondent reports that the attack took place, in the Shah Sattar forest area, which falls between Sanai Top in the Surankote sub-division and the Gursai area in the Mendhar sub-division of the Poonch district. This is the first major attack on the armed forces this year in the region. The vehicle which came under fire has got a dozen bullet holes on its windscreen. The injured air warriors were airlifted to Command Hospital Udhampur from Poonch within half an hour of the attack. The other vehicles of the convoy had been secured and safely reached their destination. A cordon and search operation has been launched by the local Rashtriya Rifles Unit to apprehend the perpetrators. Poonch is part of the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency which is going to polls in the sixth phase on the 25th of May.

Ministry of Commerce and Industry said in a statement that Australia is an important trading partner of India in Oceania region with merchandise trade between India and Australia reaching around 24 billion dollars in 2023-24. It said that an Indian delegation led by Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal had constructive and productive discussions on various trade and prospective investment related issues with the Australian delegation led by Deputy Secretary George Mina from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra. In the first Joint Committee Meeting under India-Australia Economic Co-operation and Trade Agreement, ECTA, both the sides acknowledged the smooth implementation of the ECTA.

Four Indian boxers Akash Gorkha, Vishvanath Suresh, Nikhil and Preet Malik advanced into the U-22 men’s finals at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan last night. This remarkable achievement adds to India’s historic tally of 43 medals secured across the categories. Senior national champion Akash extended his dominating run in the 60kg category with a 5-0 win over Ilyasov Sayat of Uzbekistan in the semi-finals. Reigning youth world champion Vishvanath (48kg) won 5-2 against Baricuatro Bryan of Philippines after the bout was reviewed. The other two semi-finalists, Nikhil (57kg) and Preet (67kg) also won their bouts with a similar 5-2 scoreline.

The Polling booths that are ready for the May 7 th Lok Sabha election in Karnataka will be fully accessible to the people with disability and senior citizens. The Election Commission and the department of Physically Challenged and Senior citizens empowerment, Government of Karnataka have jointly assured compatible polling stations for the old and disabled. All the polling booths will have ramps, railings, wheel chairs, dummy ballot paper in Braille script for the blind, magnifying glass, sign language experts, sign boards, separate queue, drinking water, first aid and para medical staff. The voters with disability and senior citizens can also opt for transport facility from residence to the polling booths. There will also be helpers at the booth for the specially abled and senior citizens.

Tamilnadu’s Jayaraman Madanagopal is one of the two Indians to have been picked up in the first round of the T 20 World cup in the Caribbean and USA. Three years after making his men’s international debut as an onfield umpire in the India- New Zealand T20 match in Ranchi. Madangopal is a former Tamilnadu player who qualified as TNCA umpire in 2004 and made it to the BCCI panel in the 2006-07 season. He has been part of the BCCI officiating setup since 2007 and is a member of the ICC International panel of Umpires.

HYDERABAD METRO
Election Commission of India (ECI) will be setting up 180 thematic polling stations in Secunderabad and Hyderabad twin cities to increase the poll percentage in Lok Sabha Elections. The polling stations will be set up to attract the voters. A total of 12 thematic polling stations will be set up in every Assembly constituency in Hyderabad and Secunderabad Lok Sabha Constituencies. These thematic establishments aim at motivating voters to exercise their franchise. The election authorities informed that there were 75 polling stations managed exclusively by women, 15 stations by persons with disabilities (PWDs), and 15 stations by youngsters. Every single staff member was female in the 75 polling stations, which will be managed by women. And the PWD polling booths will be managed by differently-abled persons. 15 polling stations will be managed by young people. It may be known that only 46.68 per cent voting was recorded in the 15 Assembly segments of Hyderabad district in last year’s Assembly elections.

निर्वाचन अधिकारी कार्यालय द्वारा विकासपुरी और छत्तरपुर क्षेत्र के स्कूलों में भी निबंध और चित्रकला प्रतियोगिताएं आयोजित की गईं। इस दौरान छात्रों को चुनाव और मतदान की विस्तृत जानकारी दी गई। इसके अलावा पटेल नगर क्षेत्र में भी कई गतिविधियों द्वारा लोगों को मतदान करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया गया।

29 दिसंबर 1919 को लखनऊ में एक चिराग़ रौशन हुआ जिसने संगीत की धुनों का ऐसा आफ़ताब नुमायां किया जिसने न सिर्फ़ हिंदुस्तान की बल्कि पूरी दुनिया की मौसीक़ी को अपनी रौशनी से सराबोर कर दिया । इस आफ़ताब का नाम है नौशाद अली।
मशहूर संगीतकार ख़य्याम ने नौशाद के बारे में कहा, “नौशाद साहब की ख़ूबी यह रही कि लोकगीतों को उन्होंने बहुत ख़ूबसूरती से पेश किया। शास्त्रीय संगीत की बंदिशों को इतने आसान तरीक़े से ढाला कि आम आदमी भी समझ ले। उन्होंने जो हम सबको दिया, वह बहुत बड़ी ख़िदमत है पूरे भारत की। उनके सारे गाने घरेलू हैं, आप घर में सुन सकते हैं सबके साथ।” लेकिन आज हम आपको इस महान संगीतकार के मिज़ाज के उन पहलूओं से रू-ब-रू कराएंगे कि वे क्यों कुछ फ़िल्मों में संगीत नहीं दे पाए। अगर देते तो दर्शकों को कुछ और नायाब गीतों का तोहफ़ा मिला होता।
यह नौशाद के संगीत का ही जादू था कि ‘मुग़ल-ए-आजम’, ‘बैजू बावरा’, ‘अनमोल घड़ी’, ‘शारदा’, ‘आन’, ‘संजोग’ आदि कई फ़िल्मों को न केवल हिट बनाया बल्कि कालजयी भी बना दिया। ‘दीदार’ के गीत- ‘बचपन के दिन भुला न देना’, ‘हुए हम जिनके लिए बरबाद’, ‘ले जा मेरी दुआएँ ले जा परदेश जाने वाले’ आदि की बदौलत इस फ़िल्म ने लंबे समय तक चलने का रिकॉर्ड क़ायम किया। इसके बाद तो नौशाद की लोकप्रियता में ख़ासा इजाफा हुआ।

गुलशन कुमार
भजन सम्राट के नाम से मशहूर रहे गुलशन कुमार का आज ही के दिन जन्म हुआ था। वह एक ऐसे भक्ति गायक रहे, जिनके भजन सुनने के बाद आज भी भक्त मंत्रमुग्ध हो जाते हैं। गुलशन कुमार का नाम बॉलीवुड में अब भी बड़े सम्मान के साथ लिया जाता है। वह एक ऐसी शख्सियत थे, जिन्होंने अपनी मेहनत के बल पर कम समय में ही तेजी से सफलता हासिल कर ली थी। दिल्ली शहर से ताल्लुक रखने वाले गुलशन कुमार को धीरे-धीरे पूरे देश में पहचाना जाने लगा था और वह जल्दी ही बॉलीवुड की दुनिया का जाना माना नाम बन गए थे। भले ही आज गुलशन कुमार हमारे बीच नहीं हैं, लेकिन उनके भजन और उनके द्वारा स्थापित की गई कंपनी टी सीरीज आज भी ऊंचाइयों पर है और फिल्म इंडस्ट्री को कई हिट गाने दे रही है।
Gulshan Kumar was a devoted worshipper of Shiva and especially Vaishno Devi. He sung many religious and traditional songs in favour of almost all major deities in Hinduism. Due to traditional faith, love and respect towards Vaishno Devi, he ran a free of cost meal assistance service in which free meals are offered as ‘Prasad’ to all the devotees visiting Vaishno Devi Temple. It was first started in 1983 at Baan Ganga location which is situated in between of the Vaishno Devi Temple’s pilgrimage. Even after his demise in 1997, the service still continues till today and is widely revered all across India. His son Bhushan Kumar now manages the service.
He changed career paths when his family acquired a shop selling records and inexpensive audio cassettes, which foreshadowed the onset of a vast music empire.

Today is the birthday of Neelesh Misra, an Indian journalist, author, radio storyteller, scriptwriter and lyricist. He hosted Yaadon Ka IdiotBox on a radio frequencyis co-founder and editor of Gaon Connection, a rural newspaper.
As a journalist, he has covered conflict and insurgency over the past two decades in South Asia, traveling deep into the hinterland. His travels have taken him from the rebel heartlands of Kashmir to Naxalite-dominated areas of central and eastern India, to the faraway north-east which is home to some of the world’s longest-running insurgencies. For his reportage from India’s insurgency lands, he received the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism and the K.C. Kulish Memorial Award in the year 2009.
He has written five books, including The Absent State (2010), which he co-wrote with Rahul Pandita.
Neelesh started his career as a Bollywood lyricist, when while researching for a book in Mumbai, he met director Mahesh Bhatt, which led to his debut song Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai, this was followed by hit songs like Kya Mujhe Pyaar Hai for Woh Lamhe (2006), and went on write over 20 songs in over 15 films. In 2012, he co-wrote the screenplay for Salman Khan starrer, Ek Tha Tiger, along with film’s director Kabir Khan. Lets enjoy a song written by him from the film Rog……..
