महाराष्ट्र के राज्यपाल सीपी राधाकृष्णन को राष्ट्रीय जनतांत्रिक गठबंधन ने उपराष्ट्रपति पद का प्रत्याशी घोषित किया है। भारतीय जनता पार्टी अध्यक्ष जगत प्रकाश नड्डा ने नई दिल्ली के पार्टी मुख्यालय में भाजपा संसदीय बोर्ड की बैठक के बाद इसकी घोषणा की। श्री नड्डा ने कहा कि गठबंधन के सभी दलों ने इस निर्णय का समर्थन किया है। उन्होंने कहा कि भाजपा का उद्देश्य सभी राजनीतिक दलों के बीच सहमति बनाना है, जिससे उपराष्ट्रपति चुनाव आम सहमति से संपन्न हो। चुनाव नौ सितम्बर को होगा।
Our correspondent takes a look at the life and works of Mr Radhakrishnan:
Beginning his political journey as a student leader, Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was actively involved in organisations such as the RSS and Jan Sangh. Since then he has used politics as a medium to serve the public. Mr. Radhakrishnan was elected twice to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore, securing victory by a record margin of more than 1.5 lakh votes. As Member of Parliament, he was part of India’s parliamentary delegation to the United Nations, and later, to Taiwan.
In Tamil Nadu, he served as the State President of the BJP, where he actively raised social and developmental issues. As the Chairman of the Coir Board between 2016 and 2020, Mr. Radhakrishnan transformed India’s coir sector, taking exports to an all-time high of over two thousand five hundred crore rupees. Mr. Radhakrishnan has also served as Governor of Jharkhand, Telangana, Puducherry and Maharashtra. In Jharkhand, he travelled across all 24 districts within just four months, engaging directly with citizens and officials to strengthen grassroots governance.
He also made notable contributions towards tuberculosis eradication in Jharkhand, Puducherry and Maharashtra. Born in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Shri Radhakrishnan is the first OBC leader from South India nominated for the office of Vice President. An agriculturist and industrialist by profession, he is admired for his integrity, vision, and unblemished public life. The Election Commission of India has uploaded the list of 65 lakh voters, whose names were removed from the Bihar draft electoral roll published on August 1 after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The list of voters whose names were included in the Bihar voter list till 2025, but are not included in the draft roll have been uploaded on the official website of the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer Bihar.
The Booth Level Officers, with the help of booth-level agents appointed by political parties, and other officials, have prepared the list of voters whose enumeration slips have not been received. The notice further says that any dissatisfied person can submit their claim along with a copy of their Aadhaar card. With this initiative the downloaded list will provide details of excluded electors – serial number, EPIC number, name of voter, relation type, name of relative, old part number, old serial number, age, and gender. It also mentions the reason for their non-inclusion in the 1st August draft roll.
The publication of the excluded voters under the SIR exercise in poll-bound Bihar came after the interim order of the Supreme Court. The apex court had directed the Election Commission of India to publish the names of 65 lakh voters excluded from the draft electoral roll, including reasons behind their exclusion. In Maharashtra, heavy rain continued to lash Mumbai, Kokan, and Ghat areas for third consecutive day. A red alert has been issued in Kokan, Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Ghat areas of Western Maharashtra for the next 12 hours. An orange alert has been issued in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai city, Mumbai suburbs, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Yavatmal, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, districts as well as Satara Ghat, Kolhapur Ghat.
Meanwhile, due to rough sea condition and winds are likely to blow at 50-60 km per hour, the State Emergency Operation Center adviced fishermen to avoid to go into the sea. The Kundalika river in Raigad district has crossed the warning level while Jagbudi river in Ratnagiri district has crossed the danger level. 13 अगस्त को बृहन्मुंबई नगर निगम-बीएमसी ने बॉम्बे उच्च न्यायालय को सूचित किया कि वह दादर कबूतरखाना में प्रत्येक सुबह दो घंटे, सुबह 6 बजे से 8 बजे तक, कुछ विशेष शर्तों के साथ कबूतरों को नियंत्रित मात्रा में दाना खिलाने की अनुमति देने का इरादा रखता है।

आज जन्मदिन है गुलज़ार का। उनका वास्तविक नाम सम्पूर्ण सिंह कालरा है। उनका जन्म: 18 अगस्त, 1936 को हुआ था। हिन्दी फ़िल्मों के प्रसिद्ध गीतकार होने के साथ ही वे एक कवि, पटकथा लेखक, फ़िल्म निर्देशक तथा नाटककार भी हैं। इनकी रचनाएँ मुख्यतः हिन्दी, उर्दू तथा पंजाबी में हैं। गुलज़ार को वर्ष 2002 में साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार और वर्ष 2004 में भारत सरकार द्वारा दिया जाने वाला तीसरे सर्वोच्च नागरिक सम्मान पद्म भूषण से भी सम्मानित किया जा चुका है। वर्ष 2009 में डैनी बॉयल द्वारा निर्देशित फ़िल्म स्लमडॉग मिलियनेयर में उनके द्वारा लिखे गीत ‘जय हो…’ के लिये उन्हें सर्वश्रेष्ठ गीत का ऑस्कर पुरस्कार भी मिल चुका है। इसी गीत के लिये गुलज़ार को ग्रैमी पुरस्कार से भी सम्मानित किया जा चुका है। वर्ष 2013 के लिए गुलज़ार को भारतीय सिनेमा के सर्वोच्च सम्मान दादा साहब फाल्के पुरस्कार के लिए चुना गया।

आज जयंती है विजयलक्ष्मी पण्डित की। उनका जन्म- 18 अगस्त, 1900 को इलाहाबाद, उत्तर प्रदेश में हुआ था। वे एक संपन्न, कुलीन घराने से ताल्लुक रखने वाली और पण्डित जवाहरलाल नेहरू की बहन थीं। विजयलक्ष्मी पण्डित ने भी देश की स्वतंत्रता में महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया था, जिसे भुलाया नहीं जा सकता। ‘सविनय अवज्ञा आंदोलन’ में भाग लेने के कारण उन्हें जेल में बंद किया गया था। विजयलक्ष्मी एक पढ़ी-लिखी और प्रबुद्ध महिला थीं और विदेशों में आयोजित विभिन्न सम्मेलनों में उन्होंने भारत का प्रतिनिधित्व किया था। भारत के राजनीतिक इतिहास में वह पहली महिला मंत्री थीं। संयुक्त राष्ट्र की पहली भारतीय महिला अध्यक्ष भी वही थीं। विजयलक्ष्मी पण्डित स्वतंत्र भारत की पहली महिला राजदूत थीं, जिन्होंने मॉस्को, लंदन और वॉशिंगटन में भारत का प्रतिनिधित्व किया था।
