In Osmanabad, Prime Minister Modi will be canvassing for NCP (Ajit Pawar) candidate Archana Patil who is contesting against Omprakash Rajenimbalkar of Shiv Sena (UBT).
In Madha, Mr. Modi will hold the rally in favour BJP’s candidate for Ranjeetsingh Naik Nimbalkar who is pitted against NCP (SP) candidate Dhairyasheel Mohite Patil.

In Manipur, the election authority has taken up all measurements to conduct the re-polling in six polling stations of the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency today. Five polling stations in Ukhrul district and one in Senapati will go to re-polling today from 7 AM to 4 PM. The Election Commission of India announced that the voting process in these polling stations conducted on April 26 has been treated void and directed for re-polling.

Talking to media after meeting the Election Commission, Senior party leader Supriya Shrinate alleged that the BJP has been falsely attributing declarations that are not part of their manifesto. She said, the party has also objected on the use of religious symbols during political campaigns.

The Assam Rifles has recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition along Indo-Myanmar Border in Mon district of Nagaland. The search operation launched during early morning hours yesterday, resulted in apprehension of one individual and recovery of huge quantity of arms and ammunition. These comprise of 11 Mortar tubes, ten Pistols, 198 Hand Held Radio Sets, one satellite phone and other war-like stores. The Defence Ministry said, recovery of these heavy calibre, military grade weapons is a major success for the border sealing operation underway by Assam Rifles.

In Kerala, five persons were killed when a car in which they were travelling rammed against an LPG cylinder laden truck near Cherukkunnu in Kannur district last night. Those killed included a woman and a nine year old boy. All the five died on the spot. The mishap took place when the occupants of the car were returning from Kozhikode to Neeleshwaram in Kasargod district.

Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan of the Greater Chennai Corporation gave officials instructions to mobilize assistance for low-lying regions and get ready for summer rains. According to a notification, owing to civic works being carried out by several authorities, there will be an abrupt and temporary flooding of low-lying areas, and certain roads might become impassable. Additionally, he asked officers to quickly work with service bureaus, stressing that delays not only annoy tourists but also make locals’ suffering worse. He mentioned problems like pothole detection and repair, open manholes, silted stormwater drains, continuing drain construction, and upcoming road repairs.

BENGALURU METRO
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sanitation Board, BWSSB Chairman Dr V Ram Prasat Manohar has issued instructions to the officials to issue notices to users releasing sanitary water illegally into storm water drains and underground drainages. The move will begin from May 1st. On preliminary inspection by the officials of BWSSB, it was found out that out of 528 buildings inspected, 446 such users were found releasing used water to the underground drainage illegally.The authorities have taken action to regularise 221 of the violators after receiving fees. Notices are issued to 390 users to legalise their discharge line.
The authorities have been asked to survey apartments with over 20 houses, hotels and commercial buildings and if the civic rules are violated then penalties will be imposed on them from May 7th onwards. Even after 15 days of imposing penalties if the violators do not legalise their waste disposal system, then legal action will be taken against them.

In Telangana, all major parties have intensified their campaign to woo voters following closure of withdrawal of nominations yesterday.
Prime Minister and BJP senior leader Narendra Modi will be addressing a poll rally in Zaheerabad Lok Sabha constituency at Alladurg in Medak district. This is Modi’s second meeting in the state after the poll schedule was released last month. BJP leaders informed that another senior leader Amit Shah will be campaigning in Hyderabad tomorrow in support of Party candidate Madhavilata.
Meanwhile, BJP President J P Nadda campaigned in support of party candidates in Khammam, Mahabubabad and held a road show at Nizampet. He slammed the Congress that it is spreading fake information out of frustration against BJP and its senior leaders. He also alleged that Congress has been consistently ignoring the needs of people and whereas BJP and its leader Narendra Modi is striving for Vikasit Bharat.

दिल्ली निर्वाचन अधिकारी कार्यालय ने अपनी स्वीप पहल के तहत मतदाताओं को जागरूक करने के लिए कल राजधानी के पीतमपुरा स्थित श्री गुरू गोविंद सिंह कॉलेज ऑफ कॉमर्स में मतदाता जागरुकता कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया। इस दौरान मतदान के प्रति विद्यार्थियों को प्रोत्साहित करने के लिए कई गतिविधियां आयोजित की गई।

दिल्ली में नामांकन प्रक्रिया के पहले दिन कल कुल 13 उम्मीदवारों ने अपना नामांकन पत्र दाखिल किया। लोकसभा चुनाव के छठे चरण के तहत नामांकन दाखिल करने की आखिरी तारीख 6 मई है। दिल्ली में सात लोकसभा सीटों पर 25 मई को एक ही चरण में मतदान होगा। मतगणना 4 जून को होगी।

दिल्ली पुलिस ने राजधानी के अंबेडकर नगर और तिगडी क्षेत्र से अवैध हथियार के साथ तीन लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया है। पुलिस ने इनके पास से जिंदा कारतूस के साथ एक देशी पिस्तौल और दो चाकू जब्त किये हैं। पुलिस पेट्रोलिंग टीम ने रात में गश्त के दौरान इन लोगों को पकड़ा है।

आज पुण्यतिथि है हरि सिंह नलवा की। वे महाराजा रणजीत सिंह के सेनाध्यक्ष थे। जिस एक व्यक्ति का भय पठानों और अफ़ग़ानियों के मन में, पेशावर से लेकर काबुल तक, सबसे अधिक था; उस शख्सियत का नाम जनरल हरि सिंह नलवा था। सिख फौज के सबसे बड़े जनरल हरि सिंह नलवा ने कश्मीर पर विजय प्राप्त कर अपना लोहा मनवाया। यही नहीं, काबुल पर भी सेना चढ़ाकर जीत दर्ज की। खैबर दर्रे से होने वाले इस्लामिक आक्रमणों से देश को मुक्त किया।
1831 में जमरौद की जंग में लड़ते हुए शहीद हुए। नोशेरा के युद्ध में हरि सिंह नलवा ने महाराजा रणजीत सिंह की सेना का कुशल नेतृत्व किया था। रणनीति और रणकौशल की दृष्टि से हरि सिंह नलवा की तुलना दुनिया के श्रेष्ठ सेनानायकों से की जा सकती है। एक दिन शिकार के समय जब महाराजा रणजीत सिंह पर अचानक शेर ने हमला किया, तब हरि सिंह ने उनकी रक्षा की थी। इस पर महाराजा के मुख से अचानक निकला “अरे तुम तो राजा नल जैसे वीर हो।” तभी से नल से हुए “नलवा” के नाम से वे प्रसिद्ध हो गये।

Her other noted films were Prem Pujari, Mera Naam Joker, Hare Rama Hare Krishna and Andaz, apart from acting in English films such as the Mark Robson’s Nine Hours to Rama (1963) and Merchant Ivory’s The Householder (1963). However, her most noted role remains as Balraj Sahani’s wife in Waqt (1965), wherein the hit song Ae Meri Zohra Jabeen was picturised on her.
She later became known for mother and grandmother roles in Hindi films. Her most memorable roles were as Balraj Sahni’s wife in Waqt (1965) and Kajol’s grandmother in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995).

आज पुण्यतिथि है चुनी गोस्वामी की। उनका नाम भारतीय फ़ुटबॉल के इतिहास में बहुत सम्मान से लिया जाता है। भारतीय फ़ुटबॉल के स्वर्ण युग में चुनी गोस्वामी भारत की राष्ट्रीय टीम के मुख्य खिलाड़ियों में से एक रहे। वह स्ट्राइकर पोजीशन पर खेलते रहे। उनका पूरा नाम ‘सुबिमल गोस्वामी’ है, जिन्हें फ़ुटबॉल प्रेमी ‘चुनी गोस्वामी’ के नाम से जानते हैं। उन्होंने 1962 के जकार्ता एशियाई खेलों में उस भारतीय फ़ुटबॉल टीम का नेतृत्व किया, जिसने पहली बार एशियाई स्तर पर स्वर्ण पदक जीता था। उन्हें 1963 में ‘अर्जुन पुरस्कार’ प्रदान किया गया तथा 1983 में उन्हें ‘पद्मश्री’ देकर सम्मानित किया गया। उनका खेल में गेंद पर कमाल का नियंत्रण रहता था और उन्हें यह पता रहता था कि अपने साथी खिलाड़ी को कैसे और कब गेंद देनी है।
यदि उन्हें फ़ुटबॉल के इतिहास में सर्वकालिक सर्वश्रेष्ठ फ़ुटबॉल खिलाड़ी कहा जाए तो शायद गलत नहीं होगा। 1954 में चुनी गोस्वामी ने अपना पहला बड़ा मैच मोहन बागान की ओर से खेला जिसमें टीम का मुकाबला ईस्टर्न रेलवे से था और टीम 3-0 से मुकाबला जीत गई।

When we talk of Indian cinema and the highest recognition for one’s journey and contribution to the film industry, only one name comes to our mind: the Father of Indian cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke. Today, we are fondly remembering him on his Birth Anniversary.
A producer, director and screenwriter, his debut film, Raja Harishchandra released in 1913, is now known as India’s first full-length feature film.
Born on 30th April 1870 at Trimbak, Bombay Presidency into a Marathi-speaking family, he enrolled in JJ School of Art and later, he joined Kala Bhavan, the Faculty of Fine Arts, at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and completed a course in Oil painting and Watercolor painting in 1890. He also achieved proficiency in architecture and modelling. In the same year, Phalke bought a film camera and started experimenting with photography, processing, and printing. He was awarded a gold medal for creating a model of an ideal theatre at the 1892 Industrial Exhibition of Ahmedabad.
In 1903, he got a job as a photographer and draftsman at the Archaeological Survey of India. However, not satisfied with the job, Phalke resigned in 1906 and set up a printing press at Lonavla under the name of “Phalke Engraving and Printing Works” with R. G. Bhandarkar as a partner.
The press majorly worked for making photo-litho transfers for Ravi Verma Press, owned by painter Raja Ravi Varma. Later, it also started the work of halftone blockmaking and printing and tri-colour printing. With the growing business, the press was shifted to Dadar, Bombay.
But, later, owing to some differences, Phalke quit the printng press. In a moment one can call an ‘epiphany’, Phalke saw a film with his elder brother, titled, “Amazing Animals” and then, “The Life of Jesus” which made him envision the idea of seeingIndian deities on the big screen and decided to start in the business of “moving pictures”.
Hence, the film “Raja Harishchandra” was made.Thefilm premiered at the Olympia Theatre, Bombay on 21 April 1913, and had its theatrical release on Saturday, 3 May 1913 at the Coronation Cinema, Girgaon, Bombay. It was a commercial success and laid the foundation for the film industry in the country. He made 95 feature-length films and 27 short films in his career,
आरम्भिक प्रयोग करने के बाद वे लंदन गए और वहाँ पर दो महीने रहकर सिनेमा की तकनीक समझी और फ़िल्म निर्माण का सामान लेकर भारत लौटे। तत्पश्चात् 1912 में ‘दादर’ (मुम्बई) में ‘फाल्के फ़िल्म’ नाम से अपनी फ़िल्म कम्पनी आरम्भ की। दादा साहब ने कुल 125 फ़िल्मों का निर्माण किया। जिसमें से तीन-चौथाई उन्हीं की लिखी और निर्देशित थीं। दादा साहब की अंतिम मूक फ़िल्म ‘सेतुबंधन’ 1932 थी, जिसे बाद में डब करके आवाज़ दी गई। उस समय डब करना भी एक शुरुआती प्रयोग था। दादा साहब ने जो एकमात्र बोलती फ़िल्म बनाई उसका नाम ‘गंगावतरण’ है।
दादा साहब फाल्के की सौंवीं जयंती के अवसर पर दादा साहब फाल्के पुरस्कार की स्थापना वर्ष 1969 में की गई थी। दादा साहब फाल्के पुरस्कार भारतीय सिनेमा का सबसे बड़ा पुरस्कार है, जो आजीवन योगदान के लिए भारत की केंद्र सरकार की ओर से दिया जाता है।

आज ही जयंती है फ़ातिमा बीबी की। वे भारत में सर्वोच्च न्यायालय की भूतपूर्व न्यायाधीश थीं। वे वर्ष 1989 में इस पद पर नियुक्त होने वाली पहली भारतीय महिला थी। उन्हें 3 अक्टूबर, 1993 को ‘राष्ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग’ (भारत) की सदस्य बनाया गया था। वे तमिलनाडु की राज्यपाल भी रही थीं। साल 2023 में उन्हें दूसरे सबसे बड़े ‘केरल प्रभा पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया गया था। भारत सरकार ने फ़ातिमा बीबी को 2024 में मरणोपरांत पद्म भूषण से सम्मानित किया है। न्यायमूर्ति फ़ातिमा बीबी न केवल सर्वोच्च न्यायालय की न्यायाधीश बनने वाली पहली महिला बनीं, बल्कि वह उच्च न्यायपालिका में पहली मुस्लिम महिला और किसी एशियाई देश में सर्वोच्च न्यायालय की न्यायाधीश बनने वाली पहली महिला भी बनीं।

Today is also the birthday of Carnatic classical singer, Sudha Raghunathan. Born in Chennai, Sudha received her initial training in Carnatic music from her mother V. Choodamani. From the age of three, she began to learn bhajans, Hindu devotional songs. Her tutelage continued under B. V. Lakshman. In 1977, she received an Indian government scholarship to study music under a doyenne of Carnatic music, Dr. M.L Vasantha Kumari, whose student she remained for thirteen years.
Ragunathan has performed at the Madras Music Season every year since 1990, the year in which her guru Dr. ML Vasanthakumari died. She is considered one of India’s leading Carnatic performers. She was awarded the Padma Shi in 2004.
In 2013 she was awarded the Sangita Kalanidhi of the Madras Music Academy. She was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honor, in January 2015.
On 2 October 2016, the United Nations released a stamp to honour India’s Carnatic music artist Bharat Ratna Dr.M S Subbulakshmi. This stamp was presented to Raghunathan to honour her performance at the United Nations on 2 October 2016.
Ragunathan has performed and collaborated with other artists all over the world. Ragunathan has also performed as a playback singer in Tamil cinema. She got her first break as a playback singer under Illayaraja in the movie Ivan, performing the song “Enna Enna Sethai”. Besides the Carnatic repertoire, Raghunathan has also explored the world music scene, in particular fusion music.

आज पुण्यतिथि है ऋषि कपूर की। वे जाने-माने हिन्दी फ़िल्म अभिनेता, निर्माता व निर्देशक थे। एक बाल कलाकार के रूप में काम कर उन्होंने अपने अभिनय की शुरुआत कर दी थी। उन्हें फ़िल्म ‘बॉबी’ के लिए 1974 में सर्वश्रेष्ठ अभिनेता के लिए फ़िल्मफ़ेयर पुरस्कार और साथ ही 2008 में फ़िल्मफेयर लाइफटाइम अचीवमेंट पुरस्कार सहित अन्य पुरस्कारों से सम्मानित किया गया। ऋषि कपूर ने अपनी पहली फ़िल्म ‘मेरा नाम जोकर’ में शानदार भूमिका के लिए 1971 में राष्ट्रीय फ़िल्म पुरस्कार प्राप्त किया था।
ऋषि कपूर ने बॉलीवुड में 1970 में अपने पिता की फ़िल्म ‘मेरा नाम जोकर’ से अभिनय की शुरुआत की थी।

She has “Praveen” and “Kovid” degrees in Sanskrit from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and B.A. (Hons) degree in German Literature from Elphinstone College, Bombay.
Though, her real training in dance started when at age 18.
