Voting for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections began this morning in Eighty eight Parliamentary Constituencies spread over 12 States and Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Voting is taking place in twenty seats of Kerala, 14 seats of Karnataka, 13 seats of Rajasthan, eight seats each of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, six seats of Madhya Pradesh, five seats each in Assam and Bihar, three seats each of West Bengal and Chhattisgarh and one seat each in Manipur, Tripura and Jammu and Kashmir.
The polling for the Betul (ST) Parliamentary Constituency of Madhya Pradesh which was scheduled in the second phase will now be held in the third phase due to the demise of the BSP candidate.
Some of the prominent candidates whose political fate will be sealed in the EVMs today are Congress leader Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad in Kerala, CPl’s Annie Raja also contesting from Wayanad, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar from Thiruvananthapuram, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also from Thiruvananthapuram, Tejasvi Surya of BJP from Bengaluru South, Hema Malini of BJP from Mathura. Other key candidates are BJP’s Arun Govil from Meerut, ex-Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy from Mandya and Pappu Yadav from Purnea.
A total of one thousand 202 candidates alongwith four candidates from the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency are in the fray in this phase.
Voting began at 7 AM and will end at 6 PM. Polling time has been extended till 6 PM in many polling stations in Banka, Madhepura, Khagaria and Munger constituencies in Bihar to facilitate voters in hot weather conditions.
Over 16 lakh Polling officials will welcome over 15.88 crore voters across 1.67 lakh polling stations. Our correspondent reports that 34.8 lakh first time voters are registered to cast their votes in this phase. Election Commission has called upon voters to turnout in greater numbers at polling stations and vote with responsibility and pride.

The Supreme Court will pronounce its judgment tomorrow on a batch of petitions seeking 100 percent verification of the votes recorded in the Electronic Voting Machines(EVMs) with the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips. A bench comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta had reserved its judgment on the batch of petitions including one by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) on April 18 after concluding extensive hearing for two days. The hearing in the matter had concluded on April 18, and the verdict was reserved the same day to be pronounced on April 24.On April 24 the court put a hold on its judgement and sought further clarification from the Election Commission (EC) on certain crucial points. During the hearing, the bench asked the ECI about the workings of the EVMs and VVPATs and their security features.

लोकसभा चुनाव के 5वें चरण की अधिसूचना आज जारी कर दी गई। इस चरण में छह राज्यों और दो केंद्रशासित प्रदेशों की 49 लोकसभा सीटों के लिए चुनाव होगा। 5वें चरण में उत्तर प्रदेश की 14 सीटें, महाराष्ट्र की 13, पश्चिम बंगाल की सात, ओडिसा और बिहार की पांच-पांच सीटों, झारखंड की तीन सीट और जम्मू-कश्मीर तथा लद्दाख की एक-एक सीटों के लिए मतदान होगा। इस चरण के लिए नामांकन तीन मई तक भरे जा सकते है। इस चरण के लिए मतदान 20 मई को होगा। ओडिसा में विधानसभा चुनाव के दूसरे चरण की अधिसूचना आज जारी कर दी गई है।

उत्तर प्रदेश में 8 लोकसभा सीटों पर आज मतदान हो रहा है। लगभग 1 करोड 67 लाख मतदाता 91 उम्मीदवारों के भाग्य का फैसला करेंगे।
असम की पांच लोकसभा सीटों पर मतदान आरंभ हो गया है जो शाम 5 बजे तक चलेगा। सत्तहतर लाख से अधिक मतदाता 61 उम्मीदवारों के राजनीतिक भाग्य का फैसला करेंगे। मतदान के लिए 9 हजार 133 मतदान केंद्र बनाए गए हैं। असम की 5 लोकसभा सीट -सिलचर, करीमगंज, नगांव, दीफू और दरांग-उदालगुरी है। आधिकारिक सूत्रों ने बताया कि महत्वपूर्ण मतदान केंद्रों पर केंद्रीय सशस्त्र पुलिस बल और माइक्रो पर्यवेक्षकों को तैनात किया गया है। चुनाव आयोग की न्यूनतम सुनिश्चित सुविधाओं के अनुसार मतदान केंद्रों पर पीने का पानी, वेटिंग शेड, शौचालय उपलब्ध कराए जाएंगे। दूसरे चरण में भाजपा, कांग्रेस, एआईयूडीएफ, टीएमसी और बोडोलैंड पीपुल्स फ्रंट मैदान में हैं।

India Meteorological Department, IMD has forecast heatwave to severe heatwave conditions over East and South Peninsular India for the next 4 days. Heatwave conditions are expected to prevail in isolated pockets of Bihar, Jharkhand, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Interior Karnataka and East Uttar Pradesh till Tuesday. The IMD said, West Uttar Pradesh and Konkan will also witness heatwave conditions from today till 29th of April.
The weather department further forecast a fresh spell of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over Northwest India till 28th of this month.

Chennai based MGM healthcare has fixed up heart of 19 year old Ayesha Rashan this year. The girl came to India in 2019 for treatment after she suffered a cardiac arrest and went into heart failure. Senior Cardiac surgeon Dr.K.R.Balakrishnan had suggested a heart transplant and she was waitlisted on the State organ registry. As a bridge to transplant, doctors gave her a left ventricular assist device – a surgically implanted mechanical pump that helps the left ventricle pump blood. Last year the right side of her heart also failed and the doctors decided to have a heart transplant. The heart of a 69 year old brain dead patient was flown from a hospital in Delhi for Ayesha.

BENGALURU METRO
The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation- BMTC that runs city public bus service in the city has handed over 1,700 of its buses for the election duty. To prevent inconvenience to the public today, the Corporation will run extra operations with the available 1,040 buses in the city. The Government run bus service agency has also announced free bus service to the Second PUC or 12th standard students appearing for the examinations from April 29th to May 16th. On showing their exam hall or admission tickets to the conductor, they can travel from residence to the examination hall and avail return journeys without paying for the ticket. It has also instructed its drivers to allow request stops near examination centers for the benefit of the students appearing for the examination.

In Telangana, over 890 candidates have filed 1488 nomination papers for all 17 Lok Sabha Constituencies for upcoming elections. The elections are set to witness multi-cornered contests in some constituencies as a large number of aspirants filed their nominations till yesterday on the last day for filing nominations. Of them, a large number of over 600 nominations have been filed yesterday alone. Many independents have also filed nominations. The numbers will be more specific once the Election officials release final figures from all 17 constituencies. As per the initial reports, Malkajgiri topped with 151 nominations including an independent followed by 114 in Nalgonda and 103 nominations in Bhongir.
Meanwhile, 24 nominations have been received for the bye-election to Secunderabad Cantonment Assembly constituency.

राजधानी दिल्ली में अगले महीने होने वाले लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले सभी राजनीतिक दलों ने प्रचार-प्रसार तेज कर दिया है। सभी प्रत्याशी अपने-अपने क्षेत्रों में घर-घर जाकर जनसंपर्क कर रहे हैं और अपने पक्ष में वोट डालने की अपील कर रहे हैं।
दिल्ली निर्वाचन आयोग ने राजधानी में होने वाले आम चुनाव के तहत कल दक्षिणी जिले में मतदानकर्मियों को प्रशिक्षण प्रदान किया। इसके अतिरिक्त उन्होंने ब्लॉक स्तर के अधिकारियों से स्वीप पहल के तहत फॉर्म डी के वितरण हेतु कल एक बैठक रखी। मतदान के प्रति जागरूकता बढ़ाने के लिए आयोग ने वरिष्ठ और दिव्यांग मतदाताओं के लिए पश्चिमी दिल्ली में मतदान जागरूकता अभियान चलाया।
दिल्ली नगर निगम के मेयर और डिप्टी मेयर का चुनाव स्थगित कर दिया गया है। नगर निगम सचिव द्वारा जारी नोटिस के अनुसार, चुनाव के लिए पीठासीन अधिकारी का चुनाव नहीं कर पाने के कारण आज होने वाला चुनाव स्थगित कर दिया गया है। इसमें कहा गया है कि दिल्ली नगर निगम अधिनियम, 1957 के अनुसार, चुनाव कराने के लिए एक पीठासीन अधिकारी का नामांकन अनिवार्य है।
राजधानी के जामिया क्षेत्र स्थित दिल्ली जल बोर्ड के दफ्तर में कल दोपहर लगभग डेढ बजे आग लग गई।
दमकल विभाग ने बताया कि करीब डेढ घंटे तक लगी यह आग जल बोर्ड के गोदाम में मौजूद पीवीसी पाईपों में लगी थी। दमकल की चार गाडियों की मदद से आग पर करीब पौने तीन बजे तक काबू पाया गया। दमकल विभाग ने बताया कि इस घटना में किसी को क्षति नहीं पहुंची।
राजधानी में कल वायु गुणवत्ता में हल्की गिरावट आई। केंद्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण बोर्ड के अनुसार कल शाम चार बजे तक वायु गुणवत्ता मध्यम श्रेणी में रहा और वायु गुणवत्ता सूचकांक 199 दर्ज की गई।
शून्य से 50 तक वायु गुणवत्ता अच्छी मानी जाती है। 51 से एक सौ तक के बीच वायु गुणवत्ता संतोषजनक, 101 से 200 के बीच सामान्य तथा 201 से 300 के बीच खराब मानी जाती है।

लोकसभा चुनाव 2024 के पांचवें चरण के लिए नामांकन दाखिल करना, जिसमें मुंबई उपनगरीय जिले के तहत चार लोकसभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र शामिल हैं, आज (26 अप्रैल) से शुरू होंगे। जिला कलेक्टर और जिला चुनाव अधिकारी राजेंद्र क्षीरसागर ने बताया कि नामांकन पत्र 3 मई तक सार्वजनिक अवकाशों को छोड़कर 11 बजे से प्राप्त और दाखिल किया जा सकता है। नामांकन पत्रों की जांच 4 मई को होगी। जिन उम्मीदवारों का नामांकन वैध माना जाता है और यदि वे अपना नामांकन वापस लेने के इच्छुक हैं, तो वे 6 मई तक ऐसा कर सकते हैं।

On April 26, 1954, the Salk polio vaccine field trials, involving 1.8 million children, begin at the Franklin Sherman Elementary School in McLean, Virginia. Children in the United States, Canada and Finland participated in the trials, which used for the first time the now-standard double-blind method, whereby neither the patient nor attending doctor knew if the inoculation was the vaccine or a placebo. Polio, known officially as poliomyelitis, is an infectious disease that has existed since ancient times and is caused by a virus. It occurs most commonly in children and can result in paralysis. The disease reached epidemic proportions throughout the first half of the 20th century.

The number 1729 is known as the Hardy-Ramanujan number after a famous visit by Hardy (his collaborator) to see Ramanujan at a hospital. शंकर सिंह रघुवंशी (अंग्रेज़ी: Shankar Singh Raghuvanshi, जन्म: 15 अक्टूबर 1922 – मृत्यु: 26 अप्रॅल 1987) भारतीय सिनेमा के प्रसिद्ध संगीतकार थे।
शंकर और जयकिशन की जोड़ी ने लगभग 170 से भी ज्यादा फ़िल्मों में संगीत दिया। इनकी मुख्य संगीत रचनाओं में शामिल हैं -मेरी आंखों में बस गया कोई रे, जिया बेकरार है छाई बहार है, मुझे किसी से प्यार हो गया, हवा में उडता जाए मेरा लाल दुपट्टा मलमल का, अब मेरा कौन सहारा, बरसात में हमसे मिले तुम सजन, तुमसे मिले हम, बिछड गई मैं घायल हिरनी आदि। नौ बार सर्वश्रेष्ठ संगीतकार का फ़िल्मफेयर पुरस्कार भी शंकर जयकिशन की जोड़ी को मिला था!
वैसे शंकर जयकिशन की मुलाक़ात भी अजीब ढंग से हुई। ऑपेरा हाउस थियेटर के पास की व्यायामशाला में कसरत के लिए शंकर जाया करते थे और वहीं दत्ताराम से उनकी मुलाक़ात हुई। दत्ताराम शंकर से तबले और ढोलक की बारीकियाँ सीखने लगे, और एक दिन उन्हें फ़िल्मों में संगीत का काम दिलाने के लिए दादर में गुजराती फ़िल्मकार चंद्रवदन भट्ट के पास ले गये। वहीं जयकिशन भी फ़िल्मों में काम की तलाश में आये हुए थे। इंतज़ार के क्षणों में ही बातों में शंकर को पता चला कि जयकिशन हारमोनियम बजाते थे। उस समय सौभाग्य से पृथ्वी थियेटर में हारमोनियम मास्टर की जगह ख़ाली थी। शंकर ने प्रस्ताव रखा तो जयकिशन झट से मान गये और इस तरह पृथ्वी थियेटर्स के परचम तले शंकर और जयकिशन साथ-साथ काम करने लगे। ‘पठान’ में दोनों ने साथ-साथ अभिनय भी किया। काम के साथ-साथ दोस्ती भी प्रगाढ़ होती गयी। शंकर साथ-साथ हुस्नलाल भगतराम के लिए भी तबला बजाने का काम करते थे और दोनों भाइयों से भी संगीत की कई बारीकियाँ उन्होंने सीखीं।

Kunwar Singh, a brave leader of the Indian Revolt of 1858 succumbed to injuries he sustained in the fight against the British on 26 April 1858.
Born to the Maharaja and Maharani of Jagdispur (currently in Bhojpur District, Bihar) in April 1777, Kunwar Singh’s name is generally drowned among the other more famous names of the Revolt.His contribution to the first war of independence is nonetheless immense. The rebellion in Bihar was led by Kunwar Singh. He is known as Veer Kunwar Singh because of his courageous fights against the British despite many odds stacked against him. In 1966, the Government of India released a stamp in his honour.

नितिन बोस (अंग्रेज़ी: Nitin Bose, जन्म- 26 अप्रैल, 1897, कलकत्ता; मृत्यु- 14 अप्रैल, 1986) भारतीय सिनेमा के प्रारंभिक समर्थकों में से एक, प्रसिद्ध फ़िल्म निर्देशक, छायाकार और लेखक थे। उनकी सर्वश्रेष्ठ फ़िल्मों में से एक ‘गंगा जमुना’ को हिन्दी सिनेमा की सबसे बड़ी फ़िल्मों में से एक माना जाता है। उनके विशिष्ट योगदान के लिए उन्हें वर्ष 1977 में ‘दादा साहब फाल्के पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया गया था। नितिन बोस की फ़िल्म ‘गंगा जमुना’ का प्रसिद्ध गीत “इंसाफ की डगर पे, बच्चो दिखाओ चलके” ऐसा ही एक गीत था, जिसने नई पीढ़ी को उसके दायित्वों का अहसास कराया।

मीनू मुमताज़ (अंग्रेज़ी: Minoo Mumtaz, जन्म- 26 अप्रॅल, 1942; मृत्यु- 23 अक्टूबर, 2021) भारतीय अभिनेत्री थीं। वह अपने समय के मशहूर कॉमेडियन महमूद अली की बहन थीं। भारतीय सिनेमा की दिग्गज अभिनेत्री रहीं मीना कुमारी और मीनू मुमताज़ में काफी गहरी मित्रता थी। मीनू मुमताज़ का असली नाम मालिकाउन्निसा अली था। जब फिल्मों में काम करने लगीं तो मीना कुमारी ने उनका नाम बदलकर मीनू मुमताज़ कर दिया था। तब से फिल्म इंडस्ट्री में मीनू मुमताज़ के नाम से मशहूर हो गईं। मीनू मुमताज़ की मुख्य फिल्मों में शामिल हैं -‘चौदहवीं का चांद’, ‘कागज के फूल’, ‘साहिब बीवी और गुलाम’, ‘ताजमहल’, घूघंट!
