Scrutiny of nomination papers for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections will take place today. The filing of papers for the phase ended last evening. 94 Parliamentary seats in 10 States and two Union Territories will go to polls in this phase on the 7th of May. Monday is the last day for the withdrawal of candidature.
Filing of nominations for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha polls began on Thursday. 96 Parliamentary seats spread over nine States and a Union Territory will go to polls in this phase on the 13th of May. Simultaneously, notification was issued for single-phase Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh for 175 seats and the first phase of Assembly polls in Odisha for 28 constituencies.

A high voter turnout of over 62.37 per cent was reported in the 102 Lok Sabha seats which went to polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections yesterday. Polling remained largely peaceful with voters from various walks participating enthusiastically despite the heat wave in a dazzling display of civic responsibility and pride.
A total of 1,625 candidates were in the fray in this phase. Senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Sarbananda Sonowal, Kiren Rijiju, Dr Jitendra Singh, Sanjeev Balyan and as well as BJP leaders Tamilisai Soundararajan and Jitin Prasada, and Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi, Karti Chidambaram and Nakul Nath and DMK’s Dayanidhi Maran are prominent faces whose political fate were sealed in the EVMs yesterday.
The Election Commission has thanked voters and the entire election machinery. Fifty-six villages in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar and Shompen tribe of Great Nicobar voted for the first time. The Shompen tribe are the indigenous people of the interior of Great Nicobar Island and are designated as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group. A large number of first-time voters also participated enthusiastically.
Polling was seamless, based on meticulous planning and execution by the Commission and its officials on the field.

जम्मू-कश्मीर के पांच जिलों- डोडा, कठुआ, किश्तवाड, रामबन और उधमपुर में खराब मौसम के बावजूद कल मतदान जारी रहा। उधमपुर, कठुआ लोकसभा क्षेत्र में मतदान शांतिपूर्वक संपन्न हुआ। इस क्षेत्र में लगभग 68 दशमलव 27 प्रतिशत मतदान रिकार्ड किया गया। पांच जिलो में 16 लाख 23 हजार मतदाताओं के लिए 2 हजार 6 सौ 37 मतदान केन्द्र बनाए गये थे। ग्यारह हजार से अधिक मतदानकर्मी ड्यूटी पर लगाए गए।

North Korean state media said the tests attained an unspecified “certain goal.”
North Korea conducted a similar set of tests in February, but at the time did not specify the names of the cruise missile or the anti-aircraft missile, indicating it was possibly seeing technological progress after testing the same system over weeks.
North Korean state media insisted that the tests were part of Pyongyang’s regular military development activities.
Tensions on the Korean Peninsula are at their highest in years, with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un dialing up his weapons demonstrations, which have included more powerful missiles aimed at the U.S. mainland and US targets in the Pacific.

In Tamil Nadu, State Home Secretary P.Amudha has issued an order to cut a day’s casual leave or earned leave from the leave account of staff members of home and prohibition and excise department if they have not voted. The Secretary instructed that everyone should cast their votes without fail. All the second level officers are instructed to ensure that the staff members under their control exercise their franchise.

After the last day to file nominations ended yesterday for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections, there are 337 candidates in fray for the 14 seats in Karnataka. According to the statistics released by the Chief Electoral Office yesterday , 309 male and 28 female candidates have filed 503 nominations since April 12th, when the filing began for this phase. The highest number of 40 candidates have filed nominations from Davangere and the least, which is 11 from Bellary, the seat reserved for Scheduled Tribes. The last date to withdraw the nominations is April 22 and the election will be held on May 7th. For the by-election to the Shorapur assembly seat too yesterday was the last day to file nominations. Seven candidates have filed the nominations to contest from the seat including Congress, BJP, Samajwadi Janata Party and four Independents.

In Telangana, eight persons filed their nominations in Hyderabad yesterday on the second day of filing nominations. Out of the eight people, six persons filed for Secunderabad constituency while two have filed for Hyderabad constituency. Union Minister and BJP state President G Kishan Reddy, T Padma Rao from Bharat Rashtra Samithi, B Sunitha Rani from Socialist Party (India), are among who filed nomination papers for Secunderabad Lok sabha Constituency. For Hyderabad constituency, All India Majlis-EIttehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi and an Independent have filed nominations for Hyderabad Constituency. Nominations will be received till 3 pm on April 25. Meanwhile, Hyderabad District Election Officer (DEO) and GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose said that prior permission should be obtained for political meetings and rallies.

राजधानी दिल्ली में अगले महीने होने वाले लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले सभी राजनीतिक दलों ने प्रचार-प्रसार तेज कर दिया है। सभी प्रत्याशी अपने-अपने क्षेत्रों में घर-घर जाकर जनसंपर्क कर रहे हैं और अपने पक्ष में वोट डालने की अपील कर रहे हैं।
इसी कड़ी में कल उत्तर पूर्वी दिल्ली से भाजपा प्रत्याशी मनोज तिवारी ने अपने लोकसभा क्षेत्र के खजूरी क्षेत्र में आयोजित एक सामाजिक बैठक में हिस्सा लिया। इसके अलावा उन्होंने बुराड़ी क्षेत्र में भी लोगों से जनसम्पर्क किया। वहीं, नई दिल्ली सीट से भाजपा प्रत्याशी बांसुरी स्वराज ने पूर्वी किदवई नगर में एक बैठक में हिस्सा लिया।
इसके अलावा, आम आदमी पार्टी के उम्मीदवार कुलदीप कुमार ने पटपड़गंज गॉव में पदयात्रा की। आप पार्टी के प्रत्याशी सोमनाथ भारती ने कल पटेल नगर में सुबह की सैर के दौरान लोगों से मुलाकात की।
वहीं, चांदनी चौक लोकसभा सीट से कांग्रेस प्रत्याशी जयप्रकाश अग्रवाल ने रामलीला मैदान में आयोजित एक कार्यक्रम में हिस्सा। दिल्ली में छठे चरण के तहत मतदान के लिए 29 अप्रैल को अधिसूचना जारी होगी और मतदान 25 मई को होगा।

प्रवर्तन निदेशालय ने आम आदमी पार्टी के विधायक अमानतुल्लाह खान से वक़्फ़ बोर्ड नियुक्ति मामले में बृहस्पतिवार को देर रात तक पूछताछ की। अमानतुल्लाह खान बृहस्पतिवार को सुबह 11 बजे प्रवर्तन निदेशालय के कार्यालय पहुंचे थे, जहां निदेशालय के अधिकारियों ने उनसे लगभग 13 घंटे पूछताछ की। आम आदमी पार्टी विधायक पर आरोप है कि उन्होंने दिल्ली वक्फ बोर्ड के अध्यक्ष के रूप में 32 लोगों की अवैध रूप से नियुक्ति की है।

मध्य रेलवे के महाप्रबंधक राम करण यादव ने शुक्रवार को पुणे-मुंबई मार्ग पर कर्जत-लोनावाला खंड का व्यापक प्री-मानसून निरीक्षण किया। महाप्रबंधक ने ट्रैक और पहाड़ी दोनों क्षेत्रों का निरीक्षण किया, चट्टान गिरने/भूस्खलन के कारणों पर महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी को समझने और पहाड़ी की स्थिरता के लिए उपचारात्मक उपायों की योजना बनाने के लिए पहाड़ी की चोटी और पहाड़ी ढलान का निरीक्षण किया।

लोकसभा चुनाव के पहले चरण के मतदान के बाद पश्चिम बंगाल के मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी ने बताया कि कल कूचबिहार में दो अलग-अलग घटनाओं में राजपुर थाना क्षेत्र का एक व्यक्ति और लाल बहादुर शास्त्री स्कूल में दूसरा व्यक्ति घायल हुआ है। अधिकारी ने यह भी बताया कि कुल 12 गिरफ्तारियां की गई हैं जिनमें से 10 निवारक और 2 विशिष्ट हैं। सी-विजिल ऐप सहित निर्वाचन आयोग को प्राप्त शिकायतों का समाधान कर दिया गया है। आयोग को कूचबिहार से 296, अलीपुरद्वार से 162 और जलपाईगुड़ी से 125 शिकायतें मिलीं।

He was a disciple of Allauddin Khan, and is credited with popularizing the flute as a concert instrument in Hindustani classical music and also the “Pioneer of Indian Classical Flute”.
आज ही पुण्यतिथि है पन्नालाल घोष की। वे भारत के प्रसिद्ध बाँसुरी वादक थे। पंडित पन्नालाल घोष “बांसुरी के मसीहा” नयी बांसुरी के जन्मदाता और भारतीय शास्त्रीय संगीत का युगपुरुष जिसने लोक वाद्य बाँसुरी को शास्त्रीय के रंग में ढालकर शास्त्रीय वाद्य यंत्र बना दिया। पन्नाबाबू शास्त्रीय बांसुरी के जन्मदाता हैं और उन्हें “बांसुरी का मसीहा” कहना समीचीन होगा। जिन्हें बांसुरी को लोक वाद्य से शास्त्रीय वाद्य यंत्र के रूप में स्थापित करने का श्रेय जाता हैं। 1938 में पन्नालाल घोष ने यूरोप का दौरा किया और वे उन आरंभिक शास्त्रीय संगीतकारों में से एक थे जिन्होंने विदेश में कार्यक्रम पेश किया।

आज ही पुण्यतिथि है कोमल कोठारी की। वे राजस्थान के ऐसे व्यक्ति, जो राजस्थानी लोक गीतों व कथाओं आदि के संकलन एवं शोध हेतु समर्पित थे। इन्हें ‘भारत सरकार’ द्वारा सन 2004 में कला के क्षेत्र में महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान के लिए ‘पद्म भूषण’ से सम्मानित किया गया था। ये कोमल कोठारी जी के परिश्रम का ही परिणाम था कि 1963 में पहली बार मंगणियार कलाकारों का कोई दल राजधानी दिल्ली गया और वहाँ जाकर मंच पर अपनी प्रस्तुति दे सका। कोमल कोठारी द्वारा राजस्थान की लोक कलाओं, लोक संगीत एवं वाद्यों के संरक्षण, लुप्त हो रही कलाओं की खोज एवं उन्नयन तथा लोक कलाकारों को प्रोत्साहित करने हेतु बोरूंदा में रूपायन संस्था की स्थापना की गई थी। विभिन्न प्रकार के काम कर चुकने के बाद कोमल कोठारी 1958 में अन्ततः ‘राजस्थान संगीत नाटक अकादमी’ में कार्य करने लगे और अगले चालीस सालों तक उन्होंने एक जुनून की तरह राजस्थान के लोक संगीत को रिकॉर्ड करने और संरक्षित करने का बीड़ा उठा लिया। वर्ष 1959-1960 के दौरान वे कई बार जैसलमेर गए और लांगा और मंगणियार गायकों से मिले। उनके काफ़ी समझाने-बुझाने के बाद वे 1962 में पहली बार इन लोगों के संगीत को रिकॉर्ड कर पाने में कामयाब हुए।

आज ही पुण्यतिथि है बाबूलाल गोवर्धन जोशी की। वे हॉकी के खेल से सम्बंधित प्रसिद्ध सांख्यिकीविद और इतिहासकार थे। वह भारत सहित दुनिया भर के हॉकी खिलाड़ियों के इतिहास और उनके आंकड़ों की जानकारी को सिलसिलेवार ढंग से सहेज कर रखने वाले व्यक्ति थे। हॉकी से जुड़ा कोई भी रिकॉर्ड जो कहीं न मिले वह बाबूलाल गोवर्धन जोशी के पास मिलता था।

Among the scores they churned out together, are those of Deedar (1951), Baiju Bawra (1952), Mother India (1957), and Mughal-e-Azam (1960), that stand out. आज ही पुण्यतिथि है किशोर नंदलास्कर की। वे बॉलीवुड और मराठी फिल्मों के अभिनेता थे। उन्होंने वैसे तो कई सारी फिल्मों में काम किया, लेकिन वह फिल्म ‘जिस देश में गंगा रहता है’ में ‘सन्नाटा’ का किरदार निभाकर मशहूर हुए। इस फिल्म में वह गूंगे और बहरे का किरदार निभाकर प्रसिद्ध हुए थे जो बेहद कमाल का था। किशोर नंदलास्कर ने ‘पूर्ण सत्य’ और ‘जिस देश में गंगा रहता है’ जैसी अनेक मराठी और हिंदी फिल्मों में अभियन किया। वह मराठी मनोरंजन इंडस्ट्री में काफी पॉपुलर स्टार में से थे। किशोर नंदलास्कर ने पूरे फिल्मी कॅरियर में 40 से ज्यादा फिल्मों में बतौर अभिनेता काम किया। इनमें हिंदी और मराठी की फिल्में शामिल हैं।

आज ही पुण्यतिथि है शकील बदायूँनी की। वे महान् शायर और गीतकार थे। तहजीब के शहर लखनऊ ने फ़िल्म जगत को कई हस्तियां दी हैं, जिनमें से एक गीतकार शकील बदायूँनी भी हैं। अपनी शायरी की बेपनाह कामयाबी से उत्साहित होकर उन्होंने अपनी आपूर्ति विभाग की सरकारी नौकरी छोड़ दी थी और वर्ष 1946 में दिल्ली से मुंबई आ गये थे। शकील बदायूँनी को अपने गीतों के लिये लगातार तीन बार फ़िल्मफेयर पुरस्कार से नवाजा गया। उन्हें अपना पहला फ़िल्मफेयर पुरस्कार वर्ष 1960 में प्रदर्शित “चौदहवी का चांद” फ़िल्म के ‘चौदहवीं का चांद हो या आफताब हो..’ गाने के लिये दिया गया था। शकील बदायूँनी ने अपनी शायरी में ज़िंदगी की हकीकत को बयाँ किया। उन्होंने ऐसे गीतों की रचना की जो ज्यादा रोमांटिक नहीं होते हुये भी दिल की गहराइयों को छू जाते थे।
मुंबई में उनकी मुलाकात उस समय के मशहूर निर्माता ए.आर.कारदार उर्फ कारदार साहब और महान् संगीतकार नौशाद से हुई। यहाँ उनके कहने पर उन्होंने ‘हम दिल का अफ़साना दुनिया को सुना देंगे, हर दिल में मोहब्बत की आग लगा देंगे…’ गीत लिखा। यह गीत नौशाद साहब को काफ़ी पसंद आया जिसके बाद उन्हें तुरंत ही कारदार साहब की दर्द के लिये साईन कर लिया गया। शकील बदायूँनी ने क़रीब तीन दशक के फ़िल्मी जीवन में लगभग 90 फ़िल्मों के लिये गीत लिखे। उनके फ़िल्मी सफर पर एक नजर डालने से पता चलता है कि उन्होंने सबसे ज्यादा फ़िल्में संगीतकार नौशाद के साथ ही की। वर्ष 1947 में अपनी पहली ही फ़िल्म दर्द के गीत ‘अफ़साना लिख रही हूँ…’ की अपार सफलता से शकील बदायूँनी कामयाबी के शिखर पर जा बैठे।
Shakeel Badayuni was born in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Mohammed Jamaal Ahmed Sokhta Qadiri, wanted him to have a successful career, thus he arranged Arabic, Urdu, Persian, and Hindi tuition for Shakeel at home. His inclination towards poetry was not hereditary like other shayars. One of his distant relatives, Zia-ul-Qadiri Badayuni, was a religious shayar. Shakeel Masoodi was influenced by him and the contemporary environment of Badayun led him to poetry.
When he joined Aligarh Muslim University in 1936, he started participating in inter-college, inter-university mushairas and won frequently. In 1940, he married Salma, who was his distant relative and had been living in a common house with him since childhood, however, the purdah system was vogue in their family and they were not close. After completing his BA, he moved to Delhi as a supply officer, but continued participating in mushairas, earning fame nationwide. Those were the days of shayars who wrote about the downtrodden sections of society, their upliftment, the betterment of society and all. But Shakeel had an altogether different taste – his poetry was romantic and close to the heart. Shakeel used to say:

Keh Mohabbaton Ka Hoon Raazdaan
Mujhe Fakhr Hai Meri Shayari
Meri Zindagi Se Juda Nahin
During his Aligarh days, Badauni also started learning Urdu poetry formally from Hakim Abdul Waheed ‘Ashk’ Bijnori.

आज जयंती है लांस नायक लाला राम की। वे भारतीय थल सेना के 41वें डोगरा में लांस नाईक थे। उन्होंने प्रथम विश्व युद्ध के दौरान अहम भूमिका निभाई थी। उन्होंने मेसोपोटामिया (मौजूदा इराक) में हन्ना के युद्ध में 21 जनवरी, 1916 को बहादुरी की मिसाल कायम की, जिसके लिए उनको “विक्टोरिया क्रॉस” से सम्मानित किया गया। उन्होंने अपने अधिकारियों के लिए साहस और समर्पण की अनोखी मिसाल कायम की।

आज ही जयंती है गोपीनाथ मोहंती की। वे उड़िया भाषा के प्रसिद्ध साहित्यकार थे। वर्ष 1930 से 1938 के बीच का समय इनके लेखक जीवन का निर्माण काल माना जाता है। गोपीनाथ मोहंती को 1973 में उनके योगदान के लिए ‘ज्ञानपीठ पुरस्कार’ से सम्मानित किया गया था। बाद में 1981 में भारत सरकार द्वारा इन्हें साहित्य एवं शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में ‘पद्म भूषण’ से पुरस्कृत किया गया।
उ नकी मुख्य रचनाएँ ‘मन गहिरर चाष’, ‘परजा’, ‘माटीमटाल’, ‘नव वधू’, ‘मुक्तिपथे’, ‘अमृतर संतान’, ‘सपन माटि’ आदि हैं।

Babita Shivdasani Kapoor (born 20 April 1947), also known simply as Babita, is an Indian retired actress who appeared in Hindi-language films. Her debut film was the successful drama Dus Lakh (1966), but it was the romantic thriller Raaz (1967), opposite Rajesh Khanna, that gained her recognition.
From 1966 to 1973, she starred in nineteen films as the lead heroine, including the box office successes Dus Lakh (1966), Farz (1967), Haseena Maan Jayegi, Kismat (both in 1968), Ek Shriman Ek Shrimati (1969), Doli (1969), Kab? Kyoon? Aur Kahan? (1970), Kal Aaj Aur Kal (1971) and Banphool (1971). Following her marriage to actor Randhir Kapoor in 1971, she acted in Jeet (1972) and Ek Hasina Do Diwane (1972). Her subsequent release, Sone Ke Haath (1973) was an average success, after which she decided to leave her film career. The couple has two daughters together, actresses Karishma and Kareena.
Babita was born in Karachi to actor Hari Shivdasani, who was from a Sindhi Hindu family (settled in Bombay prior to and after the partition of India) and a British Christian mother, Barbara Shivdasani. The iconic actress Sadhana Shivdasani was her paternal cousin and contemporary.

आज ही जयंती है जुथिका रॉय की। वे भजन (भक्ति संगीत) गायिका थीं। उन्होंने अपने चार दशक लम्बे कैरियर में 200 से अधिक हिन्दी और 100 से अधिक बंगाली गानों को अपनी आवाज़ दी। उन्होंने हिन्दी फ़िल्मों हेतु हिन्दी भक्ति संगीत भी रिकॉर्ड करवाये। जुथिका रॉय को 1972 में भारत के चौथे सर्वोच्च नागरिक पुरस्कार पद्म श्री से पुरस्कृत किया गया था। जुथिका रॉय ने छोटी आयु में ही गाना आरम्भ कर दिया था। जुथिका रॉय को ख्याति 1930 में मिली। इन्हें मीरा के मधुर भजनों के लिए ‘आधुनिक मीरा’ के नाम से भी जाना जाता था। वे जब 12 साल की थीं तब उन्होंने अपना पहला एलबम 1932 में रिकॉर्ड किया था। जुथिका रॉय की प्रतिभा को कवि क़ाज़ी नज़रुल इस्लाम और बंगाली संगीत निर्देशक कमल दास गुप्ता ने पहचाना था और ये दोनों ही उनके संरक्षक रहे। 1940 व 1950 में ये देश के चुनिंदा गायिकाओं में से एक थीं। इनके भजन ‘घुंघट के पट खोल’ और ‘पग घंघरू बांध मीरा नाची’ काफ़ी लोकप्रिय थे। उन्हें 1972 में पद्मश्री से सम्मानित किया गया था। 15 अगस्त 1947 को भारत के पहले स्वतंत्रता दिवस पर नेहरूजी ने झंडा फहराने के साथ उन्हें रेडियो पर लगातार गाने की विनती की थी। उन्हें नेहरू जी ने कहा था कि वे जब तक लाल क़िले पहुंचे और तिरंगा झंडा फहराएं तब तक वे गाती रहें। यहीं नहीं गांधीजी जब पुणे की जेल में थे तब उनके गाने हर दिन सुनते थे। वे हर सुबह प्रार्थना सभा की शुरूआत उनके ही गाने बजाकर करते थे। जुथिका रॉय ने दो बंगाली फिल्म ‘धुली’ और ‘रतनदीप’ में अपनी मधुर आवाज़ भी दी है।

Mamta Kulkarni is an Indian former actress and model known for her work in Hindi cinema. She quit the film industry after her appearance in the film Kabhie Tum Kabhie Hum.
