The voting has begun for the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. A total of 102 Parliamentary constituencies spread over 17 states and four Union Territories are going to polls today. These are from States including Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Meghalaya. A total of 1,625 candidates are in the fray in this phase.
Among those prominent are, senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Sarbananda Sonowal, Kiren Rijiju, Dr Jitendra Singh, Sanjeev Balyan and as well as BJP leaders Tamilisai Soundararajan and Jitin Prasada, and Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi, Karti Chidambaram and Nakul Nath and DMK’s Dayanidhi Maran are prominent faces whose political fate will be sealed in the EVMs today. One lakh 63 thousand polling stations have been set up for 16 crore 63 lakh voters in this phase. Out of the total voters, 8 crore 40 lakhs are male, 8 crore 23 lakhs are female while over 11 thousand are third gender electors. Around 36 lakh first-time voters will also exercise their franchise. In this phase, over 14 lakh 85 plus voters and around 14 lakh PwD voters have been provided the option to vote from their homes. The Election Commission has ensured that basic facilities like water, sheds, toilets, ramps, volunteers, wheelchairs, and electricity are in place so that every voter can cast their vote with ease. Besides, polling is also being held for electing new legislative assemblies in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim in a single phase today.

बिहार में लोकसभा चुनाव के लिए नक्सल प्रभावित चार निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों गया, जमुई, औरंगाबाद और नवादा में मतदान प्रक्रिया चालू है। मतदान केंद्रों पर सुबह से ही मतदाताओं की लंबी कतारें लगी हुई हैं। महिला और युवा मतदाताओं में जबरदस्त उत्साह देखा जा रहा है। इन चार लोकसभा सीटों के लगभग 76 लाख से अधिक मतदाता यहां से चुनाव लड़ रहे कुल 38 उम्मीदवारों का भाग्य तय करेंगे। नक्सल प्रभावित क्षेत्रों में मतदान केंद्रों पर सुरक्षा के विशेष इंतजाम किए गए हैं। निर्वाचन आयोग ने नक्सल प्रभावित क्षेत्रों में मतदान केंद्रों पर मतदान का समय घटाकर सुबह सात बजे से शाम चार बजे तक किया है।

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has appealed people to vote in the Lok Sabha polls beginning today. Speaking to media, Mr Kumar said, today is the day of voting and a large number of security and non-security measures are in place. He said, Election Commission is welcoming everyone to polling stations and people a must come and vote. Mr Kumar said, more than 16 crore voter slips have been distributed in the Phase I of Lok Sabha polls.
On internally displaced voters in Manipur, the Chief Election Commissioner said, the Poll body has made special scheme that in the camps so that people there can vote today. He said, over 18 thousand people have registered with the Commission for voting from the camps. Mr Kumar said, the focus of the Commission is that nobody is disenfranchised.

In Assam,polling has begun at 7 am and continue till 5 pm in five seats . A total of 35 candidates are in the fray in this phase. Over 86 lakh voters could exercise their voting rights today at Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur , Sonitpur and Kaziranga Lok Sabha seats. All the seats are likely to witness a straight contest between the Congress and the United Opposition Forum, Assam. Political fate of several heavyweight candidates will be sealed in the first phase. Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP MP Pradan Baruah, Topon Kumar Gogoi and Kamakhya Prasad Tasha, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi and President of Asom Jatiya Parishad Lurinjyoti Gogoi are in the fray in this phase. Central armed police forces and micro observers have been deployed in all the critical polling booths.

In Maharashtra,Prime Minister and Senior BJP leader Narendra Modi will address an election campaigning rally in favour of BJP candidate from Wardha constituency at Talegaon village this evening. Sitting BJP MP Ramdas Tadas will be contesting this election as Mahayuti Candidate for the third time.
While from MahavikasAghadi, Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar faction has fielded Amar Kale from Wardha Constituency. The NCP Candidate is contesting for the first time from this constituency.The Bahujan Samaj Party has given candidature for Dr. Mohan Raikwar. Total 24 candidates are in the fray in this constituency.
Wardha and other 4 constituencies in Western Vidarbha – Amravati, Yavatmal -Washim, Buldana and Akola will go to poll on 26th of this month.

रक्षा अनुसंधान और विकास संगठन ने स्वदेशी प्रौद्योगिकी क्रूज मिसाइल का सफल परीक्षण किया। यह परीक्षण ओडिसा में चांदीपुर रेंज से किया गया।
रक्षा मंत्रालय के अनुसार भारतीय वायुसेना के एसयू-30 एमके-आई विमान ने मिसाइल के परीक्षण की निगरानी की।
रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने मिसाइल के सफल परीक्षण के लिए रक्षा अनुसंधान और विकास संगठन को बधाई दी है।

CHENNAI METRO
The Madras High Court has directed the Tamilnadu Government to issue a circular to all hospitals in the State to record the blood alcohol level of the injured and deceased of road accidents if they suspect them to be drunk. Justice N.Anand Venkatesh said that this practice shall be made mandatory since there is an increase in drunk driving cases. The Judge added that this will help the motor accident claims preferred by such people to be decided in a proper manner while determining the issue of negligence to be attributed in an accident.

The VIT Engineering Entrance Exam for admissions to B.Tech programs will begin today. The online proctored test will be held in 125 cities across the Country and six cities abroad – Dubai, Muscat , Qatar,Kuwait , Singapore and Kuala lumpur. Applicants from all states and Union territories will participate in VITEEE 2024. The results will be available on May 3 on the website. The counselling process will begin on the same day. Applicants within one lakh ranks are eligible to participate in the counselling for admission to B.Tech programs of all campuses of VIT -Vellore, Chennai, VIT-AP and VIT Bhopal.

Bengaluru METRO
In Bengaluru 9000 people have responded to the offer given by the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sanitation Board, BWSSB to nominate Jalamitras in Bengaluru to spread the message of water conservation. Speaking at the training programme for the nominated Jalamitras, the BWSSB Chairman Dr V Ram Prasat Manohar called upon them to work as ambassadors to make Bengaluru a surplus water city. He thanked the people for responding to work for the welfare of the city without any remuneration. He said the aim is to achieve surplus water city status for Bengaluru by 2026. He sought the assistance of Jalamitras in popularising rain water harvesting and water conservation among the public. He added that the Water Board will promote use of treated water, recycling of water and measures to mitigate wastage of water. It will also open soaking pits to improve ground water. He informed that out of 1000 soaking pits, the Board has already opened 650 of them in the city.

Hyderabad METRO
Hyderabad District Electoral authorities have booked cases under the RP act 1951 section 134 against some of the officials who did not attend the election training. District Electoral Officer Ronald Rose informed that cases registered against some of them who did not attend the training despite reminders. Among the officials deployed on poll duty and did not turn up for training including Assistant Professor Osmania University, Dr J Krishnaiah, from Education department, Mirza Nasir Begh besides a few Senior Assistants and junior assistants from various departments have been booked. The authorities have informed that about 20 thousand officials and staff did not attend poll training. They further informed that stern action will be taken if they do not attend the last round of training to be held on 20th of this month.

आम आदमी पार्टी ने आगामी दिल्ली नगर निगम के महापौर के चुनाव के लिए करोल बाग विधानसभा में देवनगर से निगम पार्षद महेश खीची को कल अपना प्रत्याशी घोषित किया। इसके अतिरिक्त, उपमहापौर के पद के लिए पार्टी ने किरारी विधानसभा में अमन विहार वार्ड से निगम पार्षद रविन्द्र भारद्वाज के नाम की घोषणा की। आप ने कहा कि निगम चुनाव में वह कांग्रेस के साथ लडेगी। दिल्ली नगर निगम के महापौर और उपमहापौर का चुनाव 26 अप्रैल को किया जाएगा।

राजधानी दिल्ली में अगले महीने होने वाले लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले सभी राजनीतिक दलों ने प्रचार-प्रसार तेज कर दिया है। सभी प्रत्याशी अपने-अपने क्षेत्रों में घर-घर जाकर जनसंपर्क कर रहे हैं और अपने पक्ष में वोट डालने की अपील कर रहे हैं।
दिल्ली में छठे चरण के तहत मतदान के लिए 29 अप्रैल को अधिसूचना जारी होगी और मतदान 25 मई को होगा। मतगणना 4 जून को संपन्न होगी।

अखिल भारतीय आयुर्विज्ञान संस्थान ने विश्व पार्किन्सन रोग दिवस के अवसर पर कल पार्किन्सन रोग जन जागरूकता कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया। संस्थान ने बताया कि इस वार्षिक कार्यक्रम में पार्किन्सन रोग से पीडित रोगियों, उनके देखभालकर्ताओं तथा जन सामान्य सहित 100 से अधिक लोगों ने भाग लिया।

भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) ने गुरुवार को नारायण राणे को सिंधुदुर्ग-रत्नागिरी निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से पार्टी का उम्मीदवार घोषित किया। भाजपा ने लोकसभा चुनाव के लिए अपने उम्मीदवारों की 13वीं सूची में यह घोषणा की।

कोलकाता शहर में भीषण गर्मी पड़ रही है और तापमान पहले ही 40 डिग्री सेल्सियस को पार कर गया है। इस गर्म और शुष्क अप्रैल महीने में, कोलकाता नगर निगम पानी की बर्बादी को रोकने के लिए घरों में पानी के मीटर लगाने की योजना बना रहा है।
गुरुवार को निगम के मासिक सत्र में मेयर फिरहाद हकीम ने बताया कि पाटुली इलाके के कुछ घरों में पानी का मीटर लगा दिया गया है. प्राधिकरण के सामने मुख्य समस्या स्थापित मीटर की चोरी और क्षति है। निगम हर घर में वाटर मीटर लगाना अनिवार्य करने की योजना बना रहा है

इतिहास
आज दुनियाभर में कहीं भी अंतरिक्ष की बात हो तो भारत का जिक्र जरूर किया जाता है। पिछले कुछ सालों में भारतीय वैज्ञानिकों ने अंतरिक्ष मामलों में भारत को दुनिया के अग्रणी देशों की श्रेणी में ला खड़ा किया है। दुनिया के कई देश अपने उपग्रह अंतरिक्ष में लॉन्च करने के लिए भारत की मदद लेते हैं। हाल ही में ISRO ने एक साथ 104 सैटेलाइट को अंतरिक्ष में लॉन्च करने का कारनामा भी किया है। भारत के अंतरिक्ष सफर की शुरुआत आज ही के दिन 1975 में हुई थी, जब भारत ने अपना पहला उपग्रह ‘आर्यभट्ट’ अंतरिक्ष में लॉन्च किया था।
आर्यभट्ट का निर्माण पूरी तरह भारत में ही किया गया था, लेकिन तब भारत के पास उपग्रह लॉन्च करने के लिए जरूरी संसाधन नहीं थे। इसके लिए भारत ने सोवियत संघ से समझौता किया।
भारत ने आर्यभट्ट को सफलतापूर्वक लॉन्च तो कर दिया, लेकिन 4 दिन बाद ही कुछ गड़बड़ियां सामने आने लगीं। 5वें दिन सैटेलाइट से संपर्क टूट गया। 17 साल बाद 10 फरवरी 1992 को उपग्रह पृथ्वी के वातावरण में वापस लौट आया।
आर्यभट्ट को पृथ्वी की कक्षा में स्थापित करना भारत और सोवियत संघ दोनों के लिए बड़ी उपलब्धि थी। रिजर्व बैंक ने इस ऐतिहासिक दिन को सेलिब्रेट करने के लिए 1976 और 1997 के 2 रुपए के नोट पर सैटेलाइट की तस्वीर भी लगाई। देश के पहले सैटेलाइट आर्यभट्ट को महान खगोलविद और गणितज्ञ आर्यभट्ट के नाम पर रखा गया था।

आज युवा क्रन्तिकारी अनंत लक्ष्मण कन्हेरे की पुण्यतिथि है । (अंग्रेज़ी: Anant Laxman Kanhere; जन्म- 1891 ई., इंदौर, मध्य प्रदेश; मृत्यु- 19 अप्रैल, 1910 ई., महाराष्ट्र) भारत के युवा क्रांतिकारियों में से एक थे। अनंत लक्ष्मण कन्हेरे का जन्म 1891 ई. में मध्य प्रदेश के इंदौर में हुआ था। उन्हें देश की आज़ादी के लिए शहीद होने वाले युवाओं में गिना जाता है। 1909 ई. में ब्रिटिश सरकार के ख़िलाफ़ एक लेख लिखने के कारण गणेश सावरकर को आजन्म कारावास की सज़ा हुई थी। अंग्रेज़ सरकार के इस फैसले से क्रांतिकारियों में उत्तेजना पैदा हो गई। क्रांतिकारियों ने बदला लेने की ठानी। उन्होंने नासिक के ज़िला अधिकारी जैक्सन का वध करके इसका बदला लेने का निश्चय कर लिया। कन्हेरे ने इस काम करने का जिम्मा अपने ऊपर लिया। पिस्तौल का प्रबंध हुआ और 21 दिसम्बर, 1909 को जब जैक्सन एक मराठी नाटक देखने के लिए आ रहा था, तभी कन्हेरे ने नाट्य-गृह के द्वार पर ही उसे अपनी गोली का निशाना बनाकर ढेर कर दिया बाद में कन्हेरे पकड़ लिये गए और मात्र 19 वर्ष की अवस्था में उन्हें फाँसी दे दी गई।

Edward James Corbett CIE VD (25 July 1875 – 19 April 1955) was an Indian-born British hunter, tracker, naturalist and author. He was frequently called upon by the Government of the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh to kill man-eating tigers and leopards that were attacking people in the nearby villages of the Kumaon and Garhwal Divisions. He recounted his hunts and experiences in books like Man-Eaters of Kumaon, which enjoyed critical acclaim and commercial success. He was also an avid photographer and spoke out for the need to protect India’s wildlife from extermination.

आज सुप्रसिद्ध मराठी फिल्म निर्माता सुमित्रा भावे की पुण्यतिथि है । (अंग्रेज़ी: Sumitra Bhave, जन्म- 12 जनवरी, 1943, पुणे; मृत्यु- 19 अप्रॅल, 2021) वह मराठी सिनेमा और मराठी थिएटर में फिल्म निर्माता सुनील सुख्तनकर के साथ एक जोड़ी के रूप में लोकप्रिय थीं। वह अपनी आउट-ऑफ-द-बॉक्स कंटेंट और साथ ही अपनी फिल्मों में सामाजिक मुद्दों को संभालाने के उनके तरीकों के लिए जानी जाती थीं। सुमित्रा और सुनील की जोड़ी ने एक साथ कई लोकप्रिय फिल्में, जैसे- डॉगी, दहावी फा, वास्तुपुरुष, देवराई, बाधा, एक कप च्या, संहिता, अस्तू, कासव का निर्देशन किया। उन्होंने परिवार कल्याण पर सर्वश्रेष्ठ नॉन-फीचर फिल्म, सर्वश्रेष्ठ शैक्षिक/ प्रेरक/निर्देशात्मक फिल्म, अन्य सामाजिक मुद्दों पर सर्वश्रेष्ठ फिल्म, सर्वश्रेष्ठ फीचर फिल्म श्रेणियों में राष्ट्रीय फिल्म पुरस्कार जीते हैं।

1864: पंजाब के प्रसिद्ध आर्य समाजी नेता, समाज सुधारक और शिक्षाविद महात्मा हंसराज का जन्म। महात्मा हंसराज (जन्म- 19 अप्रैल, 1864, पंजाब; मृत्यु- 15 नवम्बर, 1938, लाहौर) पंजाब के प्रसिद्ध आर्य समाजी नेता, समाज सुधारक और शिक्षाविद थे। उनके महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान और प्रयासों के फलस्वरूप ही देशभर में डी.ए.वी. के नाम से 750 से भी अधिक विद्यालय व महाविद्यालय शिक्षा प्रदान कर रहे हैं। सन 1885 में जब वे लाहौर में अपने बड़े भाई मुल्कराज के यहाँ रहकर शिक्षा प्राप्त कर रहे थे, उसी समय लाहौर में स्वामी दयानन्द सरस्वती के सत्संग में जाने का अवसर इन्हें मिला। स्वामी दयानन्द के प्रवचन का युवक हंसराज पर बहुत प्रभाव पड़ा। अब उन्होंने समाज सेवा को ही अपने जीवन का लक्ष्य बना लिया।
सन 1922 में हंसराज जी के कार्यकर्ता केरल के 2500 से भी अधिक लोगों को पुन: हिन्दू धर्म में वापस लाये। केरल में हुए ‘मोपला विद्रोह’ में बलपूर्वक इनका धर्मपरिवर्तन किया गया था।
सन 1895 में बीकानेर में आये भीषण अकाल के दौरान पीड़ित जनता का धर्म-परिवर्तन करने से रोका। लाला लाजपतराय इस कार्य में अग्रणी रहे।
जोधपुर के अकाल में लोगों की सहायता हेतु 1400 अनाथ बच्चे आर्य अनाथालयों में पालन-पोषण के लिये लाये गये।

सुरेखा सीकरी उनमे से ही एक थी आज इस महान शख्सियत की जयंती है। सुरेखा सीकरी (अंग्रेज़ी: Surekha Sikri, जन्म- 19 अप्रॅल, 1945, नई दिल्ली; मृत्यु- 16 जुलाई, 2021, मुम्बई) एक भारतीय अभिनेत्री और टेलीविजन कलाकार थीं। वह मुख्य तौर से हिंदी सिनेमा में सक्रिय थीं। वर्ष 2018 में आयी बॉलीवुड फिल्म ‘बधाई हो’ और धारावाहिक टेलीविजन शो ‘बालिका बधु’ (2008) के लिए सुरेखा सीकरी को जाना जाता है। धारावाहिक ‘बालिका वधु’ ने उन्हें घर-घर में पहचान दिलाई। वह हिंदी रंगमंच में वर्ष 1978 से लेकर 2021 तक सक्रिय थीं। सुरेखा सीकरी ने अपने कॅरियर की शुरुआत वर्ष 1978 में राजनीतिक ड्रामा फिल्म ‘क़िस्सा कुर्सी का है’ से की थी।
