The government is all set to move the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024 for consideration and passing in the Lok Sabha today. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who also holds the charge of the Ministry of Minority Affairs, has said, eight hours have been allocated for the discussion on the Bill in the House. Talking to the media at Parliament House, Mr Rijiju said, during the Business Advisory Committee meeting, it was agreed that the time for the discussion may be increased after taking the sense of the House. Mr. Rijiju added that the government is ready to answer all the questions over the bill. The Minister alleged that opposition parties are opposing the legislation due to their appeasement politics. He said the government is committed to a fair and open debate where every MP, across party lines, can participate in the discussion.
The BJP has issued a whip to all its MPs to be present in the Lok Sabha. NDA allies JD(U) and Telugu Desam Party have also issued whip for their MPs to be present in the House and support the government stand. The Congress has also issued a whip to all its MPs to be present in the House. The INDIA bloc Floor leaders in both the Houses of Parliament held a meeting in New Delhi yesterday to discuss their strategy on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. Senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, Professor Ram Gopal Yadav of Samajwadi Party, Kalyan Banerjee of TMC, T. R. Baalu of DMK, Sanjay Singh of Aam Aadmi party among others attended the meeting.
Our correspondent reports that the primary objective of the Bill is to address shortcomings in the management and governance of Waqf properties.
The aim of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, is to streamline the Waqf Board’s work and ensure the efficient management of Waqf properties. The objective of the Bill is to amend the Waqf Act, 1995, to redress the issues and challenges in regulating and managing Waqf properties. The Amendment Bill seeks to improve the administration and management of Waqf properties in the country. It also intends to overcome the shortcomings of the previous Act and enhance the efficiency of Waqf boards by introducing changes such as updating the definitions of Waqf, improving the registration process, and increasing the role of technology in managing Waqf records. The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in August last year and was sent to a Joint Parliamentary Committee formed under the chairmanship of BJP MP Jagdambika Pal for further consideration. The Committee has held thirty-six sittings, wherein they heard the views and suggestions of the representatives of various ministries and departments, as well as key organizations. The Committee received over 97 lakh memoranda in total, through both physical and digital modes.

कर्मचारी भविष्य निधि संगठन ने बहु-बैंकिंग केंद्रीकृत संग्रह प्रणाली में 15 और बैंकों को शामिल किया है। इसके साथ ही इस पैनल में शामिल सरकारी और निजी बैंकों की संख्या बढकर 32 हो गई है। कल नई दिल्ली में इस करार पर हस्ताक्षर के समय श्रम और रोजगार मंत्री डॉक्टर मनसुख मांडविया भी उपस्थित थे। उन्होंने कहा कि ईपीएफओ लगभग आठ करोड़ सदस्यों और 78 लाख से अधिक पेंशन भोगियों को सामाजिक सुरक्षा और अन्य लाभ उपलब्ध करा रहा है। श्री मांडविया ने कहा कि ईपीएफओ स्वयं को सुलभ और कुशल बैंक के रूप में स्थापित करने के लिए ईपीएफओ 3.0 के रूप में विकसित कर रहा है। नए शामिल 15 बैंक सालाना लगभग 12 हजार करोड़ रूपये का प्रत्यक्ष भुगतान करेंगे और कर्मचारी सीधे इन बैंकों से लेन-देन कर सकेंगे।

India’s renewable energy sector has achieved the highest-ever capacity addition in the last financial year, by installing 25 gigawatts. New and Renewable Energy Minister, Pralhad Joshi informed this while addressing a press conference in New Delhi yesterday. He said, the sector witnessed an increase of almost 35 per cent in the last financial year, compared to 18.57 gigawatts achieved in the financial year 2023-24. The Minister highlighted that the country’s journey in renewable energy was led by solar, which soared from 15 to nearly 21 gigawatts in the last financial year. He said, it recorded an impressive growth of around 38 per cent.

The Reserve Bank of India, RBI has said 98.21 per cent of the 2000 rupee bank notes have been returned to the banking system. On May 19, 2023, the RBI had announced the withdrawal of bank notes of 2000 Rupee denomination, from circulation. The RBI said, in a statement issued that the total value of 2000 Rs banknotes in circulation was 3.56 lakh crore Rs at the close of business on May 19, 2023. It has since declined to 6,366 crore Rs at the close of business on March 31 this year.

श्रीलंका ने सीमापार मछली पकड़ने के आरोप में गिरफ्तार किए गए 13 भारतीय मछुआरों को कल रात जेल से रिहा कर दिया है। इन मछुआरों को इस वर्ष 19 और 20 फरवरी को रामनाथपुरम जिले के रामेश्वरम से गिरफ्तार किया गया था। श्रीलंका सरकार ने इन मछुआरों को 30 मार्च को कोलंबो में भारतीय दूतावास को सौंपा। दूतावास ने इन मछुआरों के चेन्नई लौटने की व्यवस्था की। मछुआरों ने बताया कि श्रीलंका के न्यायालय ने उन पर चार-चार लाख रुपये का जुर्माना लगाया ।

म्यामां में पिछले सप्ताह के विनाशकारी भूकंप में मृतकों की संख्या दो हजार सात सौ 19 हो गई है। साढे चार हजार से अधिक लोग गंभीर रूप से घायल हैं और चार सौ 41 लोग लापता है। म्यामां के सैन्य प्रमुख मिन उंग ह्लवाइंग के अनुसार, मृतकों की संख्या बढ़ने की आशंका है। आपदा के बाद क्षेत्र में राहत और बचाव कार्य जारी है। भारत ऑपरेशन ब्रह्मा के तहत म्यामां को लगातार राहत सामग्री और मानवीय सहायता दे रहा है। पिछले सप्ताह म्यामां में सात दशमलव सात तीव्रता का भूकंप आया था। इसका असर थाइलैंड, वियतनाम, लाओस और दक्षिण-पश्चिम चीन पर भी पड़ा था।

Tamilnadu Chief Minister Mk Stalin announced that a grand library was being constructed in Tiruchi and will be named after former Chief Minister K Kamaraj. Speaking at State Assembly on Tuesday he told that many libraries had been named after legendar leaders and naming the library after Kamaraj was one of them. The grand library is being constructed at a cost of 290 crore Rupees.

दिल्ली पुलिस की अपराध शाखा ने मादक पदार्थ की तस्करी करने वाले एक अंतर्राज्यीय गिरोह का पर्दाफाश किया है। पुलिस ने बताया कि तस्करी में शामिल गिरोह के तीन सदस्यों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है। पुलिस के अनुसार इन आरोपियों के पास से लगभग एक सौ बीस किलोग्राम उच्च गुणवत्ता वाला गांजा बरामद किया है जिसकी अंतरराष्ट्रीय बाजार में कीमत लगभग साठ लाख रूपए है। पुलिस ने बताया कि इस कार्रवाई में एक कार भी ज़ब्त की गई है।

The Navratna Defence PSU Bharat Electronics Limited, BEL has achieved a turnover of around 23000 crore rupees during the financial year 2024-25. This provisional and unaudited figure was announced in a press statement by BEL yesterday. The figures include the export sales of around 106 Million US dollars as against the previous year’s export turnover of 92.98 Million US dollars thereby recording a growth of 14 percent. During this fiscal year, BEL secured orders worth 18,715 crore rupees to produce and market BMP combat vehicle, Ashwini radar, software defined radios, data link, multi function radars, Seekers, Anti Drone system, airport surveillance radar, sonar upgradation, flycatcher spares and services. The media release says that BEL has a total order book of around 71,650 crore rupees that includes the export order book of 359 million US dollars.

BJP Members of Parliament from Telangana led by Union Coal Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar met with Union Human Resource Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on the Kanche Gachibowli lands issue in Delhi yesterday. They requested the Union Minister to intervene in the matter of the Kanche Gachibowli lands and protect them from the State government. They also urged to protect the environment and heritage of the lands, as the state government started cleaning up the land by bulldozers and removing flora and fauna. The BJP MPs said the Kancha Gachibowli lands were very beneficial for the environmental conservation balance of Hyderabad as the entire area was filled with 700 types of medicinal plants and 220 types of birds. The BJP MPs explained to the Union Minister that the State government was looking to convert these lands into a real estate project and earn thousands of crores of rupees as income. They also claimed that the people of Hyderabad, including HCU students, were opposing the State government’s decision.
Meanwhile, State Deputy Chief Minister M Bhatti Vikramarka and IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu have reiterated that the 400-acre land at Kanche-Gachibowli is unequivocally government property. Speaking to the media at Secretariat in Hyderabad last evening, they alleged the BRS and BJP leaders of misleading the people for their political gains. They also said such actions are unacceptable as political manoeuvrings that hinders the state’s progress is not in the best interest of the people. The Ministers clarified that the State government has not encroached upon even an inch of land belonging to Hyderabad Central University.

Samuel Morse (April 27, 1791 – April 2, 1872)
painter and inventor. He is best remembered today for his invention of single-wire telegraph system and the co-inventor of the Morse code – method of transmitting textual information as a series of on and off tones. His discovery soon changed the way the messages are sent and received in the entire world, and even today Morse code is still in use in various areas of radio communications. First moment when Samuel Morse came to the idea to use electromagnetism as a means of communication was in 1832.

आज पुण्यतिथि है कुमार श्री रणजीत सिंह जी की। (जन्म: 10 सितम्बर, 1872, काठियावाड़, गुजरात; मृत्यु: 2 अप्रॅल, 1933) उन्हें “भारतीय क्रिकेट का जादूगर” कहा जाता है। उन्हें भारत का सर्वश्रेष्ठ क्रिकेट खिलाड़ी माना जाता है। रणजीत सिंह प्रथम टेस्ट मैच खिलाड़ी थे। उन्होंने इंग्लैंड से अपने क्रिकेट खेल की शुरुआत की थी। उन्हीं के नाम पर उन्हें सम्मान देने के लिए भारत के प्रथम श्रेणी के क्रिकेट टूर्नामेंट का नाम ‘रणजी ट्राफी’ रखा गया है। इस टूर्नामेंट का शुभारम्भ 1935 में पटियाला के महाराजा भूपिन्दर सिंह ने किया था। रणजीत सिंह भारत के सर्वश्रेष्ठ बल्लेबाजों में से एक थे। वे एक भारतीय राजकुमार थे, जिन्हें प्रथम भारतीय खिलाड़ी होने का श्रेय भी प्राप्त है।

आज पुण्यतिथि है भारत के बेहतरीन क्रिकेट ऑलराउंडर सलीम दुर्रानी की। जन्म- 11 दिसंबर, 1934; मृत्यु- 2 अप्रॅल, 2023) वे अफ़ग़ान मूल के थे। उन्होंने भारत के लिए 29 टेस्ट खेले, जिसमें उन्होंने एक शतक और सात अर्धशतक की मदद से 1202 रन बनाए थे। साथ ही 75 विकेट भी लिए थे। सलीम दुर्रानी धीमे बाएं हाथ के गेंदबाज और बल्लेबाज थे। वह पहले क्रिकेटर थे जिन्हें ‘अर्जुन पुरस्कार’ (1961) से सम्मानित किया गया था। वर्ष 2011 में उन्हें ‘सी.के. नायडू लाइफटाइम अचीवमेंट अवॉर्ड’ से भी सम्मानित किया गया था, जो भारतीय क्रिकेट बोर्ड द्वारा किसी पूर्व खिलाड़ी को दिया जाने वाला सर्वोच्च सम्मान है।

Bernard “Buddy” Rich (September 30, 1917 – April 2, 1987)
jazz drummer, songwriter, conductor, and bandleader. He is considered one of the most influential drummers of all time. Rich was known for his virtuoso technique, power, and speed. He was an advocate of the traditional grip, though he occasionally used matched grip when playing the toms. Despite his commercial success and musical talent, Rich never learned how to read sheet music, preferring to listen to the drum parts played in rehearsal by whoever was his drum roadie at the time and relying on his excellent memory.

आज पुण्यतिथि है राधाकृष्ण दास की।(जन्म- 1865, मृत्यु- 2 अप्रैल, 1907) वे हिंदी, बांग्ला, उर्दू, गुजराती आदि भाषाओं के अच्छे जानकार तथा साहित्यकार थे। 15 वर्ष की उम्र से ही वे साहित्य रचना करने लगे थे। राष्ट्रीयता और समाज सुधार की भावना से साहित्य की रचना करने वाले भारतेंदु युगीन लेखकों में आपका महत्वपूर्ण स्थान रहा है।भारतेन्दु विरचित अपूर्ण हिन्दी नाटक ‘सती प्रताप’ को राधाकृष्ण दास ने इस योग्यता से पूर्ण किया है कि पाठकों को दोनों की शैलियों में कोई अन्तर ही नहीं प्रतीत होता। आप की मुख्य रचनाएं-धर्मालाप’, ‘दुःखिनी बाला’, ‘पद्मावती’, ‘निस्सहाय हिंदू’ तथा ‘महाराणा प्रताप’ आदि हैं।

Bindeshwar Pathak (2 April 1943 – 15 August 2023)
Dr Bindeshwar Pathak, the founder of Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, is widely recognized in India – and around the world – for dedicating his life to build a nationwide sanitation movement spanning over five decades. His contribution has made a critical difference in the lives of millions of severely disadvantaged poor.
His actions aimed at rehabilitating manual scavengers, resorting their dignity by providing alternative employment through skill development presents an inspiring example of promoting peace, tolerance and empowerment by a non-violent means.
He was conferred the Padma Vibhushan, posthumously in 2024 and the Padma Bhushan, in 1991.

आज जयंती है उस्ताद बड़े ग़ुलाम अली ख़ाँ की। (जन्म: 2 अप्रॅल, 1902 – मृत्यु: 25 अप्रैल, 1968) उनकी गणना भारत के महानतम गायकों व संगीतज्ञों में की जाती है। वे विलक्षण मधुर स्वर के स्वामी थे। इनके गायन को सुनकर श्रोता अपनी सुध-बुध खोकर कुछ समय के लिए स्वयं को खो देते थे। भारत के कोने-कोने से संगीत के पारखी लोग ख़ाँ साहब को गायन के लिए न्यौता भेजते थे। क्या राजघराने क्या मामूली स्कूल के विद्यार्थी, ख़ाँ साहब की मखमली आवाज़ सभी को मंत्रमुग्ध कर देती थी। दिल को छू जाने वाली आवाज़ के मालिक उस्ताद बड़े ग़ुलाम अली ख़ाँ ने नवेली शैली के ज़रिए ठुमरी को नई आब और ताब दी। जानकारों के मुताबिक़ उस्ताद ने अपने प्रयोगधर्मी संगीत की बदौलत ठुमरी को जानी-पहचानी शैली की सीमाओं से बाहर निकाला। उन्हें पद्म भूषण और संगीत नाटक अकादमी पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया था।
Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan (2 April 1902 – 23 April 1968)
Indian vocalist, from the Kasur Patiala Gharana. The great maestro used to say: “Music is to me more than my food. It is my only life and I cannot live without it. I would rather die with a song on my lips than live without music.” Ghulam Ali’s musical gifts were evident at an incredibly early age. As an infant he once wailed in the same pitch in which his father and his famous uncle Kale Khan were singing! Reminiscing over his childhood, the Ustad once said: “I do not know at what age I began to master the 12 notes. This much I can say.

आज जन्मदिवस है बॉलीवुड फिल्मों के मशहूर अभिनेता, निर्देशक और निर्माता अजय देवगन का। (जन्म- 2 अप्रॅल, 1969, नई दिल्ली, भारत) वे हिन्दी सिनेमा के बेहतरीन अभिनेताओं में से एक माने जाते हैं। अजय देवगन को बेहतरीन अभिनय करने के लिए अपने कॅरियर में दो बार राष्ट्रीय फ़िल्म पुरस्कार से सम्मानित किया गया है। उन्हें ‘फ़िल्मफेयर अवॉर्ड्स’, ‘नेशनल फ़िल्म अवॉर्ड फॉर बेस्ट एक्टर’ और इसके अतिरिक्त भारत सरकार की तरफ़ से साल 2016 में ‘पद्मश्री’ से भी सम्मानित किया जा चुका है। वे एक संजीदा अभिनेता हैं। वे बॉलीवुड के उन अभिनेताओं में से एक हैं, जिनके पास यातायात के लिए अपना निजी जेट है। अपनी अदाकारी से सब के दिल जीतने वाले अजय देवगन गंभीर अभिनय करने के लिए जाने जाते हैं। उनकी एक और खास बात यह है कि जब उनकी फ़िल्म रिलीज़ होती है तो ही शो में आते हैं, अन्यथा ग्लैमर की दुनिया से दूर बस अपने काम में मशगूल रहते हैं।उनकी मुख्य फिल्में-‘फूल और काँटे’, ‘अपहरण’, ‘गंगाजल’, ‘हम दिल दे चुके सनम’, ‘जख़्म’, ‘द लेजेंड ऑफ़ भगत सिंह’, ‘सिंघम’, ‘गोलमाल’, ‘प्लेटफ़ॉर्म’, ‘दिलवाले’, ‘विजयपथ’, ‘इश्क’, ‘प्यार तो होना ही था’ आदि हैं।

AV Rama Rao (born 2 April 1935) is an Indian inventor and chemist, known for his pioneering research in the field of drug technology. He is the founder of the A. V. Rama Rao Research Foundation, a non governmental organization promoting research and doctoral studies in chemistry and Avra Laboratories, an organization dealing in intermediates and active pharmaceutical ingredients, used in therapeutics. An elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, India, and Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Rama Rao is a recipient of several awards such as TWAS Technology Award, VASVIK Industrial Research Award and Om Prakash Bhasin Award. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri in 1991 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016.
To begin with, Dr Rama Rao focused his research on synthetic dyes and advanced studies on plant and insect pigments. Association with Corey at Harvard University shifted his focus to studies related to the synthesis of biologically active natural products and he turned his attention to antitumour antibiotics, macrolides, immunosuppressants, and cyclic peptides.
