Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the Karmayogi Saptah-National Learning Week in New Delhi today. During the week, each Karmayogi will commit to achieving a target of at least four hours of competency-linked learning. Our correspondent reports that National Learning Week will be dedicated to learning through various forms of engagement by individual participants and Ministries, Departments, and Organizations.
The Mission Karmayogi was launched in September 2020 aimed to promote citizen-centric governance with the help of a robust digital ecosystem. It is a competency-driven capacity building and human resource management programme designed for the Civil Servants. The National Learning Week will provide fresh impetus towards individual and organisational capacity development. During the week, each Karmayogi will commit to achieving a target of at least four hours of competency-linked learning. The participants need to complete the courses available on iGOT platform. The courses are available in webinar format designed by professionals. During the week, eminent speakers will deliver lectures and help the Karmayogi to work towards citizen-centric delivery in an effective manner.

A UN report has stated that in Bangladesh, around 4.17 crore people are living in extreme poverty, with 6.5 per cent of the population facing severely dire conditions. The report, titled “Global Multidimensional Poverty Index 2024: Poverty Amid Conflict”, was published jointly by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative of the Oxford University recently, and paints a grim picture of Bangladesh’s poverty crisis. The report identifies poor living standards as the largest contributor to Bangladesh’s poverty rate, accounting for 45.1 per cent of the poverty index. Education and health factors also play significant roles, contributing 37.6 per cent and 17.3 per cent. Globally, the report reveals that 110 crore people are living in extreme poverty, with nearly half residing in conflict-affected regions. A staggering 83 per cent of those living in extreme poverty are found in African and South Asian countries, further highlighting the regional challenges, comments United News of Bangladesh (UNB) based on the report.
In South Asia, an alarming 27.2 crore people live in households where at least one member suffers from malnutrition, underscoring the severe health and nutritional issues that compound poverty in the region.

रूस के राष्ट्रपति ने कहा है कि विकसित देशों की तुलना में बड़ा और तेज वृद्धि दर वाला होने के कारण विश्व अर्थव्यवस्था में ब्रिक्स देशों का योगदान बहुत अधिक होगा। कल मॉस्को में ब्रिक्स व्यापार मंच में उन्होंने कहा कि ब्रिक्स के देश वास्तविक अर्थों में वैश्विक आर्थिक वृद्धि के वाहक हैं। श्री पुतिन ने कहा कि आने वाले समय में वैश्विक सकल घरेलू उत्पाद में मुख्य योगदान ब्रिक्स देशों का ही होगा। ब्रिक्स में ब्राजील, रूस, भारत, चीन और दक्षिण अफ्रीका शामिल हैं। अब इस समूह में मिस्र, इथोपिया, ईरान और संयुक्त अरब अमीरात को भी शामिल किया गया है। अगले सप्ताह रूस के कज़ान शहर में ब्रिक्स शिखर सम्मेलन प्रस्तावित है।
इस सम्मेलन में सहभागिता के लिए प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी दो दिन की यात्रा पर मंगलवार को रूस जा रहे हैं। रूस के राष्ट्रपति पुतिन ने राजधानी मॉस्को में पत्रकारों से कहा कि ब्रिक्स कभी भी किसी के खिलाफ नहीं रहा है। श्री पुतिन ने इस बात को उजागर करने का श्रेय प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी को दिया और कहा कि ब्रिक्स पश्चिम-विरोधी नहीं, बल्कि एक गैर-पश्चिमी संगठन है। उन्होंने कहा कि ब्रिक्स देश विश्व राजनीति और व्यापार में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाना चाहते हैं। श्री पुतिन ने कहा कि यूक्रेन के साथ संघर्ष को रूस शांतिपूर्ण तरीके से सुलझाना चाहता है। उन्होंने युद्ध में यूक्रेन का साथ देने के लिए अमरीका और पश्चिमी देशों की आलोचना की। उन्होंने मौजूदा स्थिति पर प्रधानमंत्री मोदी की चिंता की सराहना की। श्री पुतिन ने कहा कि प्रधानमंत्री मोदी अपनी चर्चाओं के दौरान इस मुद्दे को लगातार उठाते रहे हैं।

Israeli military continued its push into Lebanon and called up another brigade for combat. Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has urged residents of 23 listed villages and towns to flee to the north of the Awali River. IDF warned that anyone who is near armed-group Hezbollah’s elements, facilities, or weapons is putting his or her life in danger.
Meanwhile, Israeli troops continued their offensive in southern Lebanon. According to the IDF, four militants were killed in a combined airstrike and a ground attack aimed at destroying a central underground command center belonging to Hezbollah. Israeli army has been conducting intensive airstrikes in Lebanon amid an escalation in conflict with Hezbollah last month. The confrontation between the Israeli army and Hezbollah started in October last year, following terror attack in Israel by Palestinian armed group Hamas.

In Chennai, a state agency is taking action to protect the local ecosystem by culling invasive Tilapia fish in the Adyar Creek. Originally from Africa, Tilapia have been threatening native species by competing for resources and disturbing the balance of the water habitat.
Tilapia introduced to Tamilnadu in the 1950s as a cheap protein source quickly spread across the State’s fresh water bodies due to its ability to thrive in polluted , low oxygen environments. Tilapias reproduce rapidly through mouth brooding where fertilised eggs are carried in the mouth until hatching. This combined with feeding on larvae of local fish and territorial behaviour allows them to displace native species. As this became a city wide issue, Chennai River Restoration Trust launched a targeted culling operation at the 358 acre Adyar Creek and surrounding areas removing adult Tilapia using nets. Before formulating a policy, a comprehensive survey of native fish species is crucial to educate future generations. Historically, local fishermen’s knowledge was relied upon , but now Tilapia is often mistaken for native species such as mullets .

Dr.Rajan Ravichandran , Director at MIOT Institute of Nephrology and his team have been performing cross blood group renal transplantations to ensure the judicious use of organs and prevent delays in surgeries for patients for nearly 14 years. Three months ago when they had to perform a transplant for a patient with the rare Bombay O blood group. On Thursday, the team announced that the 30 year old chronic kidney failure patient, who had been on dialysis for a year, had successfully undergone a kidney transplant. His mother who has the B positive blood group was the donor.

The International Centre for Antimicrobial Resistance Solutions has partnered with the Bengaluru based Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms to tackle the threat of Antimicrobial Resistance. Over the next five years the organisations will synergise efforts to develop and integrate innovative solutions against Antimicrobial Resistance or AMR in short. The International Centre for AMR will fund the research and provide technical expertise to realise the goals of India’s National Action Plan on AMR across one health domain. One Health is an approach that recognises human health at par with the health of animals, with the belief that both are closely connected in the shared environment. Such solutions found effective after trials will be transferred to other low and middle income countries.

Karnataka Minister for infrastructure development M B Patil has informed that the location of Bengaluru’s second airport will be finalised after a meeting next week. He was speaking to media persons in Bengaluru yesterday after a meeting with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge. The minister informed that five sites have been identified and one among them namely Dabaspet, Nelamangala, Bidadi and Harohalli will be finaled in the meeting to be held next week. Saying that political interest will not influence the decision on location, M B Patil said that the officials have been instructed to submit a feasibility report on all these locations.

Telangana state Government has issued orders appointing Vice Chancellors for nine state universities. This ended the prolonged delays and the era of senior bureaucrats as in-charge VCs. Prof. Kumar Molugaram who has been appointed as Vice Chancellor for Osmania University. He is Senior Professor in the university with an academic and research career in civil engineering that spans 29 years. Prof. Aldas Janaiah is appointed as Vice Chancellor for Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University.
Prof. Raji Reddy appointed as Vice Chancellor for Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University, is an expert in Agrometeorology.

दिल्ली-खादी प्रदर्शनी
केंद्रीय सूक्ष्म, लघु और मध्यम उद्यम मंत्री जीतन राम मांझी ने कल दिल्ली हाट में आयोजित विशेष खादी प्रदर्शनी का शुभारंभ किया। इस अवसर पर खादी और ग्रामोद्योग आयोग के अध्यक्ष मनोज कुमार भी उपस्थित थे। श्री मांझी ने सभी देशवासियों से खादी और लोकल उत्पाद अधिक से अधिक खरीदने की अपील की। उन्होंने दिल्ली वासियों से आग्रह किया कि वे त्योहारों की खरीदारी के लिए इस खादी प्रदर्शनी में आएं और स्वदेशी खादी उत्पादों की खरीदारी कर ‘वोकल फॉर लोकल’ तथा ‘आत्मनिर्भर भारत’ अभियान का हिस्सा बनें। प्रदर्शनी का आयोजन इस महीने की 31 तारीख तक किया जाएगा।
दिल्ली-प्रदूषण
सर्दी के मौसम से पहले दिल्ली और राष्ट्रीय राजधानी क्षेत्र में प्रदूषण बढ गया है। केंद्रीय प्रदूषण नियंत्रण बोर्ड के अनुसार दिल्ली का वायु गुणवत्ता सूचकांक कल 285 पर पहुंच गया। खराब वायु गुणवत्ता को देखते हुए दिल्ली के पर्यावरण मंत्री गोपाल राय ने कल सभी संबंधित अधिकारियों के साथ आपात बैठक की। उन्होंने कहा कि राष्ट्रीय राजधानी में 13 हॉटस्पॉट हैं जहां वायु गुणवत्ता सूचकांक तीन सौ को पार कर गया है। हाल ही में प्रधानमंत्री के प्रधान सचिव डॉ. पी.के. मिश्रा ने राष्ट्रीय राजधानी में धूल की समस्या को कम करने के लिए सड़कों के केंद्रीय किनारों और रास्तों को पक्का करने के साथ-साथ सड़कों के किनारे खुले क्षेत्रों में हरियाली बढ़ाने के लिए मिशन-मोड में काम करने पर बल दिया था।
दिल्ली – कांदा रेल
त्योहारों को देखते हुए प्याज की ऊँची कीमतों से लोगों को राहत देने के लिए केंद्र सरकार द्वारा महाराष्ट्र के नासिक से कांदा रेल को रवाना किया गया है। यह रेल एक हजार 600 मीट्रिक टन प्याज लेकर कल को दिल्ली पहुंचेगी। इस प्याज की राष्ट्रीय राजधानी क्षेत्र में बिक्री की जाएगी, जिससे प्याज के दामों में स्थिरता आएगी।

मुंबई-समाचार – महाराष्ट्र विधानसभा चुनाव
महाराष्ट्र विधानसभा चुनावों से पहले, राज्य में राजनीतिक गतिविधियाँ तेज़ हो रही हैं। एनसीपी नेता दीपक सालुंखे और पूर्व बीजेपी एमएलसी राजन तेली शुक्रवार को शिवसेना (उद्धव बालासाहेब ठाकरे) में शामिल हो गए। पार्टी प्रमुख उद्धव ठाकरे ने यह भी घोषणा की कि बीजेपी नेता सुरेश बनकर मुंबई में शिवसेना में शामिल हो गए हैं। वरिष्ठ अंबेडकरवादी नेता नाना बागुल और सिंधी नेता नंदलाल वाधवा शुक्रवार को रिपब्लिकन पार्टी ऑफ इंडिया (अठावले गुट) में शामिल हो गए। इस बीच, राष्ट्रवादी कांग्रेस पार्टी ने पार्टी विरोधी रुख अपनाने और पार्टी अनुशासन का उल्लंघन करने के आरोप में विधायक सतीश चव्हाण को छह साल के लिए पार्टी से निलंबित कर दिया है।

बाबा सिद्दीकी हत्या-संदिग्ध गिरफ्तारी
मुंबई पुलिस ने शुक्रवार को एनसीपी नेता बाबा सिद्दीकी की हत्या के सिलसिले में पांच और संदिग्धों को गिरफ्तार किया। इस मामले में अब तक कुल नौ लोग गिरफ्तार किए जा चुके हैं। अधिकारियों ने बताया कि विशेष सूचना पर कार्रवाई करते हुए क्राइम ब्रांच ने रायगढ़ जिले के पनवेल और कर्जत में छापेमारी की, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप पांच लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया। पुलिस अधिकारियों ने बताया कि यह लोग शूटरों को हथियार सप्लाई करने के लिए जिम्मेदार हैं।
सलमान खान – 5 करोड़ फिरौती
इस बीच, मुंबई ट्रैफिक पुलिस को बॉलीवुड अभिनेता सलमान खान से 5 करोड़ रुपये की मांग करने वाला एक धमकी भरा संदेश मिला, जिसके बाद क्राइम ब्रांच ने जांच शुरू कर दी है। खान को पहले लॉरेंस बिश्नोई गिरोह से जान से मारने की धमकी मिली थी।

कोलकाता-समाचार
बंगाल राइस मिल्स एसोसिएशन ने राज्य सरकार के साथ धान खरीद समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर करने से इनकार कर दिया है। एसोसिएशन के कार्यकारी अध्यक्ष अब्दुल मालेक ने शुक्रवार को कोलकाता में मीडिया को बताया कि राज्य सरकार धान खरीद के लिए बैंक गारंटी के बारे में उनकी मांगों को पूरा नहीं कर रही है। एसोसिएशन चावल मिलों के लिए 25 लाख रुपये की बैंक गारंटी की मांग कर रही है। साथ ही, चावल मिल मालिक धान से चावल बनाने के लिए अन्य राज्यों की तरह अधिक कीमत की मांग कर रहे हैं। मिल मालिकों ने विभिन्न जिलों में चावल की आपूर्ति के लिए अधिक परिवहन शुल्क की भी मांग की है।

मातंगिनी हज़ारा (19 अक्टूबर, 1870 – 29 सितम्बर, 1942)
भारत की स्वतंत्रता के लिए अपने प्राणों की आहुति देने वाली बंगाल की वीरांगनाओं में से एक वीरांगना मातंगिनी हज़ारा को हम नमन करते हैं। भारतीय इतिहास में उनका उल्लेख अदम्य शौर्य और साहस के साथ है। ‘भारत छोड़ो आन्दोलन’ को रोकने के लिए अंग्रेज़ सेना आन्दोलनकारियों को नहीं रोक पाई। वीरांगना मातंगिनी हज़ारा ने अपने हाथों में राष्ट्रीय ध्वज ले अंग्रेज सेना की आगे ना बढने की चेतावनी को नकार दिया और सबसे आगे आ गईं। इसी समय उन पर गोलियाँ दागी गईं और इस वीरांगना ने देश के लिए अपनी कुर्बानी दी। मातंगिनी हज़ारा का जन्म 19 अक्टूबर, 1870 को पश्चिम बंगाल के मिदनापुर में हुआ था। वे एक ग़रीब किसान की बेटी थीं। बहुत छोटी उम्र मे उनका विवाह हो गया था।
दुर्भाग्य से मातंगिनी जब मात्र अठारह वर्ष की थीं, तभी विधवा हो गईं। अपने पति के मकान के पास एक कुटिया बनाकर रहने लगीं।
सन 1930 के आंदोलन में जब गाँव के कुछ युवकों ने भाग लिया तो मातंगिनी ने पहली बार स्वतंत्रता की चर्चा सुनी। 1932 में उनके गाँव में एक जुलूस निकला। उसमें कोई भी महिला नहीं थी। लेकिन मातंगिनी जुलूस में सम्मिलित हो गईं। यह उनके जीवन का एक नया अध्याय था। उन्होंने ‘नमक सत्याग्रह’ में भी भाग लिया। इसमें अनेकों गिरफ्तार हुए, लेकिन मातंगिनी को इसलिए छोड़ दिया गया क्योंकि वह वृद्ध हो गई थी। उन्होंने मौका मिलते ही तामलुक की कचहरी पर, चुपचाप जाकर तिरंगा झंडा फहरा दिया। इस पर उन्हें इतनी मार पड़ी कि मुँह से खून निकलने लगा। सन 1933 में गवर्नर को काला झंडा दिखाने पर उन्हें 6 महीने की सज़ा भोगनी पड़ी।

निर्मला देशपांडे जन्म: 19 अक्टूबर, 1929 – मृत्य: 1 मई, 2008
आज ही पुण्य तिथि है निर्मला देशपांडे की। वह प्रसिद्ध सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता थीं। उन्होंने अपना जीवन साम्प्रदायिक सौहार्द को बढ़ावा देने, महिलाओं, आदिवासियों और वंचितों की सेवा में अर्पण कर दिया। उन्होंने अनेक उपन्यास, नाटक, यात्रा वृत्तान्त, विनोबा भावे की जीवनी भी लिखी।
निर्मला देशपांडे जी जीवन पर्यन्त सर्वोदय आश्रम टडियांवा से जुड़ी रहीं। उन्होंने महिलाओं के कल्याण के लिए दिल्ली और मुम्बई में कामगार महिलाओं के लिए आवासगृहों की स्थापना की। सामाजिक जीवन में उनके योगदान के लिए उन्हें पद्म विभूषण से सम्मानति किया गया।
पाण्डुरंग शास्त्री अठावले – 19 अक्टूबर, 1920 – 25 अक्टूबर, 2003
भारत के प्रसिद्ध आध्यात्मिक गुरु, समाज सुधारक तथा दार्शनिक पाण्डुरंग शास्त्री अठावले की भी आज पुण्य तिथि है। उन्होंने समाज में स्वाध्याय के माध्यम से आत्म चेतना जगाने का आदर्श स्थापित करने का प्रयास किया और समाज सुधार आंदोलन भी चलाया। अठावले ने युक्तिपूर्वक वेदों, उपनिषदों तथा हिंदू संस्कृति की आध्यात्मिक शक्ति को फिर से जागृत किया तथा आधुनिक भारत के सामाजिक रूपांतरण में उस ज्ञान तथा विवेक का प्रयोग सम्भव बनाया। दादा पाण्डुरंग को भारत सरकार ने 1999 में ‘पद्म विभूषण’ से सम्मानित किया।
Pandurang Shastri Athavale (19 October 1920 – 25 October 2003), also known as Dada /Dadaji (“elder brother”), was an Indian activist, philosopher, spiritual leader, social revolutionary,[2] and religion reformist, who founded the Swadhyaya Parivar (Swadhyaya family) in 1954.Swadhyaya is a self-study process based on the Bhagavad Gita which has spread across nearly 100,000 villages in India, Americas, Europe, Middle East, Oceania and other Asian countries with five million adherents.Noted for his discourses on the Bhagavad Gita, the Vedas and the Upanishads, Dadaji is also known for his selfless work and brilliant knowledge in scriptures.

Jonathan Swift (30 November 1667 – 19 October 1745) was an Irish writer who became Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, hence his common sobriquet, “Dean Swift”.
Swift is remembered for works such as A Tale of a Tub (1704), An Argument Against Abolishing Christianity (1712), Gulliver’s Travels (1726), and A Modest Proposal (1729). He is regarded by the Encyclopædia Britannica as the foremost prose satirist in the English language. He originally published all of his works under pseudonyms-including Lemuel Gulliver, Isaac Bickerstaff, M. B. Drapier-or anonymously. He was a master of two styles of satire, the Horatian and Juvenalian styles.
His deadpan, ironic writing style, particularly in A Modest Proposal, has led to such satire being subsequently termed “Swiftian”.
Works Swift was a prolific writer. The collection of his prose works (Herbert Davis, ed. Basil Blackwell, 1965-) comprises fourteen volumes. A 1983 edition of his complete poetry (Pat Rodges, ed. Penguin, 1983) is 953 pages long. One edition of his correspondence (David Woolley, ed. P. Lang, 1999) fills three volumes.

सुब्रह्मण्यम चंद्रशेखर (19 अक्तूबर, 1910 – मृत्यु- 21 अगस्त, 1995)
भारत के सुप्रसिद्ध खगोल भौतिक शास्त्री और भौतिक शास्त्र के नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता को सुब्रह्मण्यम चंद्रशेखर का हम आज स्मरण कर रहे हैं। नोबेल पुरस्कार विजेता सर सी. वी. रमन के भतीजे सुब्रह्मण्यम चंद्रशेखर ने चेन्नई के प्रेसीडेंसी कॉलेज में शिक्षा ग्रहण की। बाद में वह अमेरिका चले गए। जहाँ उन्होंने खगोल भौतिक शास्त्र तथा सौरमंडल से संबंधित विषयों पर अनेक पुस्तकें लिखीं। सुब्रह्मण्यम चंद्रशेखर ने ‘व्हाइट ड्वार्फ’, यानी ‘श्वेत बौने’ नाम के नक्षत्रों के बारे में एक सिद्धांत का प्रतिपादन किया। इन नक्षत्रों के लिए उन्होंने जो सीमा निर्धारित की है, उसे ‘चंद्रशेखर सीमा’ कहा जाता है। उनके सिद्धांत से ब्रह्मांड की उत्पत्ति के बारे में अनेक रहस्यों का पता चला। पूर्व राष्ट्रपति एपीजे अब्दुल कलाम अपनी पुस्तक ‘विंग्स ऑफ फायर’ में याद करते हुए लिखते हैं कि प्रोफेसर सुब्रह्मण्यम चंद्रशेखर ने किस तरह कैम्ब्रिज में ग्रेजुएशन के दौरान 1930 में ही ‘चंद्रशेखर लिमिट’ की खोज कर ली थी लेकिन इस खोज को मान्यता मिलने और नोबेल पुरस्कार हासिल करने के लिए उन्हें 50 साल इंतज़ार करना पड़ा। भारतीय मूल के अमेरिकी नागरिक डाक्टर एस. चन्द्रशेखर को एक अन्य अमेरिकी वैज्ञानिक प्रो. विलियम्स फ़ाउलर के साथ 1983 का भौतिकी का नोबेल पुरस्कार।
