A Mumbai court remanded the 35 Somalian pirates apprehended by the Indian Navy to 10 days of police custody on Sunday. The pirates were nabbed by INS Kolkata off Somalia coast.
Indian Navy’s warship INS Kolkata nabbed the pirates after a 40-hour long operation that commenced on March 15. According to the Indian Navy, INS Kolkata intercepted pirate ship ex-MV Ruen in the Arabian Sea, a cargo vessel which was being used as mother ship to undertake piracy. The Navy rescued 17 crew members from the pirate ship.
The INS Kolkata intercepted pirate ship ex-MV Ruen in the Arabian Sea based on inputs received by Indian Navy’s Information Fusion Centre -Indian Ocean Region from UKMTO (United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations). The warship, carrying 35 pirates reached Mumbai on Saturday and Indian Navy handed over the pirates to Mumbai police.

The Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has added 16.02 lakh net subscribers in the month of January this year. According to EPFO’s provisional payroll data released yesterday, around 8.08 lakh new members have enrolled during January, 2024. In a statement, the Union Labour Ministry statement said, a noticeable aspect of the data is the dominance of the 18 to 25 year age group, constituting a significant over 56 percent of the total new members during the period.

The Bengaluru District Election officer and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath issued instructions to the election bound officials to motivate voters to cast their vote and not treat April 26th, which falls on a Friday, as a long weekend. The 14 Lok Sabha seats in south Karnataka will face election on that day. Speaking in a training programme for Bengaluru North Lok Sabha seat officials, he said, the voters are not to treat it as a long weekend and plan a vacation. He informed that 353 polling booths in Bengaluru North constituency had registered lower than average voter turnout in the previous election and the officials must go door to door to educate the voters to cast their vote without fail. He pointed out that the first time voters must not only vote but also motivate their family and friends to exercise their franchise. Tushar Girinath also told officials that they should gather information about PWD voters and also those who are above 85 years old and arrange for their postal ballot at home. He further instructed them to deliver the voters slip to the doorsteps of all the voters 10 days before the election. These slips, he added, will have a barcode that will help locate the polling booth of the respective voter and the voting day.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to introduce porous concrete at multiple public spaces like footpaths, parking lots and pathways in parks to ensure water easily sink in and enhance the groundwater levels. GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose witnessed a demonstration of the porous blocks and asked the officials to conduct a pilot project to conserve water in twin cities. Rose had previously instructed the officials and Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste management agency to make pervious concrete and tiles by using C&D recycled material which percolate the rainwater into the ground. The authorities are planning to first lay a footpath as an R&D project and would later scale up to a city-wide practice. Further, the commissioner has also appealed to the citizens to preserve water in whatever way they can and utilize the services of authorized C&D agencies of GHMC to preserve natural resources.

दिल्ली पुलिस की साइबर शाखा ने राजधानी में फर्जी वीजा देने वाली कंपनी का पर्दाफाश किया है। इस सिलसिले में रूस के दो नागरिकों और दो भारतीयों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है। साइबर सेल के पुलिस उपायुक्त राकेश पावरिया ने बताया कि गिरफ्तार लोगों के पास से पांच लैपटॉप, सात मोबाइल फोन, चार पासपोर्ट, फर्जी ऑफर लेटर, बायोडेटा, पैसे लेने के लिए क्यूआर कोड, 76 हजार रूपये की नकदी के साथ ही रूस, अमेरिका, पोलैंड और नेपाल की मुद्राएं बरामद की गई हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि गिरफ्तार आरोपियों ने पोलैंड, जर्मनी और अन्य यूरोपीय जैसे देशों के लिए वर्क परमिट वीजा बनाने के बहाने विदेशी नौकरी के इच्छुक करीब 63 लोगों को धोखा दिया है।

मुंबई की एक अदालत ने भारतीय नौसेना द्वारा पकड़े गए 35 सोमालियाई समुद्री लुटेरों को कल 10 दिन की पुलिस हिरासत में भेज दिया। समुद्री लुटेरों को आईएनएस कोलकाता ने सोमालिया तट के पास से पकड़ा था। भारतीय नौसेना के युद्धपोत आईएनएस कोलकाता ने 15 मार्च को शुरू हुए 40 घंटे के लंबे ऑपरेशन के बाद समुद्री लुटेरों को पकड़ लिया। भारतीय नौसेना के अनुसार, आईएनएस कोलकाता ने अरब सागर में समुद्री डाकू जहाज पूर्व-एमवी रुएन को रोका, जो एक मालवाहक जहाज था जिसे माँ के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया जा रहा था।
