Lisa was re-elected with a thumping majority from Wigan in north-west England. She will now take over the culture ministry from Lucy Fraser. The 44-year-old Lisa Nandy was among the final three contestants in the Labour Party’s top leadership contest in January 2020. Lisa is the daughter of Calcutta-born academic Dipak Nandy and British mother Ann Luise Byers. Her father was well-known for his work in the field of race relations in Britain.

 

A record number of around 29 Indian-origin members of Parliament have been elected to the House of Commons in the UK’s general election as results were announced yesterday.

NEET-PG Entrance Examination 2024 will be held on 11th of next month and to be conducted in two shifts. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences has issued the revised schedule of the examination. The exam was postponed last month, a day ahead of the scheduled date of examination. The decision was taken in the wake of allegations regarding the integrity of certain competitive examinations.

राष्ट्रीय आयुर्विज्ञान परीक्षा बोर्ड ने भी सोशल मीडिया की भ्रामक ख़बरों को अनदेखा करने की सलाह दी है। बोर्ड ने स्पष्ट किया है कि प्रश्न-पत्र अवैध तरीक़े से हासिल करने की कोशिश करने वालों से सख़्ती से निपटा जाएगा।

Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested Dev Prakash Madhukar in connection with the tragic stampede in Hathras that resulted in 121 deaths. Dev Prakash Madhukar was named as the main accused in the FIR filed by the police. Earlier, a reward of 1 lakh rupees for information regarding his whereabouts was also announced. The arrest came a day after the police nabbed six people in connection with the stampede. They were all members of the satsang organising committee. The stampede took place on Tuesday during the satsang by self-styled godman and preacher Narayan Sakar Hari alias Bhole Baba.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) has updated its forecast for global cereal production in 2024. The Cereal Supply and Demand Brief, issued by FAO has pegged the global cereal production at 2,854 million tonnes, a new all-time high. The FAO has raised its projections to a better harvest outlook for maize in Argentina and Brazil as well as Turkiye and Ukraine, which will offset downgrades to the outlook for Indonesia, Pakistan and several Southern African countries. The wheat production forecast has also been raised based on better prospects in Asia. Global rice production is projected to reach a record 535.1 million tonnes.

 

World cereal total utilization in 2024-25 is forecast to rise to 2,856 million tonnes, up 0.5 per cent from the previous year, led by rice and coarse grains.

 

FAO’s forecast for international trade in total cereals remains unchanged at 481 million tonnes, representing a 3.0 per cent decline from 2023-24.

More than one thousand cases have been redressed in first week of special campaign for redressal of family pension grievances. The Department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare had launched a month-long campaign for redressal of Family Pension Grievances on 1st of this month for bringing ease in the life of Central Government Family Pensioners. The top three performers are Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Department of Defence Finance and Ministry of Railways. The campaign will continue till the end of this month.

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L Murugan  has condemned the violence attack on  The State BSP leader K. Armstrong. In his message he has said that the violence incidents have increased in the state. Inspector General, Chennai North Asra Garg informed that eight suspects were taken into custody in connection with the case. Leaders cutting across party lines have condemned the incident. The 52 year old leader was brutally attacked in front of his house yesterday.

The Railway Protection Force personnel in the South Western Railway zone received training in the new criminal laws. Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Shakhsya Adhiniyam 2023 manuals were given to these trained personnel. This handbook on the new laws consists of practical application of its provisions. The SANGYAAN mobile app designed and developed by the Railway Protection Force tech team is now available with these personnel as a ready reckoner. A release by the railway zone says that the Force is now equipped to handle new legal requirements with professionalism and compliance. They now have necessary knowledge and skills needed to navigate and apply the new legal frameworks effectively. SANGYAAN mobile app will educate and empower the Railway personnel with comprehensive information on both the new and old criminal laws. It has user-friendly navigation features, a searchable database and offline access, making it a practical tool for staying informed about the latest legal developments in India.

The Telangana State Government has assured the pharma sector that it is committed to industrial growth with a multi-pronged approach including setting up pharma clusters, a skill university and a new energy policy. Formally opening the 73rd Indian Pharmaceutical Congress in Hyderabad yesterday, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka along with two more ministers, assured the industry to this effect. He asserted that there is no issue with power or water availability. He said a new energy policy focussing on green energy is all set to be unveiled in the State shortly. Speaking on the occasion, State Industries Minister Sridhar Babu said a proposal for pharma clusters, with the objective of geographically decentralising the industry’s growth, is among the policies and initiatives announced by the government within a few months of coming to power.

HYDERABAD METRO

 

The stage is all set for the crucial meeting of the Chief Ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh this evening. Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu will meet at the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Praja Bhavan in Hyderabad. Both Chief Ministers will discuss various issues which are pending ever since Telangana state was carved out, under the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Act 2014. The security in and around the Praja Bhavan has been beefed up in view of the meeting. This is for the first time that Revanth Reddy and Nara Chandrababu Naidu are meeting each other after taking office as Chief Ministers of their respective states. The meeting is expected to discuss the distribution of assets between two States, especially those mentioned in the schedule 9 and 10 of the Act. Sharing of water relating to river Godavari and Krishna is also likely to come up for discussion.

दिल्‍ली की जल मंत्री आतिशी ने कल राजधानी में बाढ की तैयारियों को लेकर एक समीक्षा बैठक की। बैठक के बाद पत्रकारों को संबोधित करते हुए उन्‍होंने कहा कि दिल्‍ली में पिछली बार यमुना का जलस्‍तर रिकार्ड स्‍तर पर पहुंच गया था जिसके कारण लोगों को काफी परेशानी हुई थी। आतिशी ने बताया कि इस बार दिल्‍ली सरकार बाढ से निपटने के लिए पूरी तरह तैयार है। उन्‍होंने बताया कि पूर्वी जिले के जिला मजिस्‍ट्रेट कार्यालय में बाढ नियंत्रण कक्ष स्‍थापित किया गया है। इसमें विभाग के सभी अधिकारी तैनात रहेंगे और हर समय बाढ की निगरानी करेंगे।

प्रवर्तन निदेशालय (ईडी) ने दिल्ली जल बोर्ड मामले में दिल्ली, अहमदाबाद, मुंबई और हैदराबाद में छापेमारी की है। ईडी ने मेसर्स यूरोटेक एनवायर्नमेंटल प्राइवेट लिमिटेड और अन्य के खिलाफ आईपीसी और भ्रष्टाचार निवारण अधिनियम की विभिन्न धाराओं के तहत एसीबी, जीएनसीटीडी, नई दिल्ली द्वारा दर्ज की गई एफआईआर के आधार पर जांच शुरू की, जिसमें दिल्‍ली जल बोर्ड में घोटाले का आरोप लगाया गया था। छापेमारी में नकद, कुछ दस्तावेज और डिजिटल साक्ष्य मिले हैं।

 

एफ.आई.आर. में आरोप लगाया गया है कि सभी चार निविदाओं में केवल तीन संयुक्त उद्यम कंपनियों ने भाग लिया। इसमें 2 कंपनियों को एक-एक टेंडर मिला। वहीं एक कंपनी को 2 टेंडर मिले। यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए कि प्रत्येक को निविदा मिले, तीन संयुक्त उद्यमों ने चार एसटीपी निविदाओं में पारस्परिक रूप से भाग लिया।

दिल्‍ली के पर्यावरण मंत्री गोपाल राय ने कल कहा कि पिछले कुछ वर्षों की तुलना में इस वर्ष प्रदूषण में तीस प्रतिशत की कमी आई है। श्री राय ने बताया कि दिल्‍ली सरकार प्रदूषण के खिलाफ सक्रिय रूप से काम कर रही है। उन्‍होंने बताया कि प्रदूषण को कम करने के लिए सरकार ने हरित क्षेत्र को बढाया है। उन्‍होंने कहा कि इस साल दिल्‍ली सरकार 64 लाख पेड लगाने का निर्णय लिया है।

केंद्रीय विश्वविद्यालय जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया ने रक्षा मंत्रालय के पुनर्वास महानिदेशालय-डी.जी.आर. के साथ एक समझौता ज्ञापन पर हस्ताक्षर करके अपने शैक्षणिक पाठ्यक्रमों का विस्तार किया है। इस समझौता ज्ञापन का उद्देश्य रक्षा क्षेत्र से जुड़े कर्मियों और अधिकारियों को प्रशिक्षण कोर्स प्रदान करना है। विश्‍वविदयालय ने अपनी वि‍ज्ञप्ति में बताया कि यह समझौता ज्ञापन बुधवार को नई दिल्‍ली में किया गया। समझौता ज्ञापन के अंतर्गत जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया द्वारा सैन्य कर्मियो चाहे वे वर्तमान में सेवारत हों या सेवानिवृत्त, उनके लिए पुनर्वास पाठ्यक्रम शुरू किया जाएगा। यह तीन महीने से लेकर छह महीने की अवधि के डिप्लोमा और सर्टिफिकेट कोर्स हैं।

महाराष्ट्र के मृदा एवं जल संरक्षण मंत्री संजय राठौड़ ने कल राज्य में लंबित सभी परियोजनाओं की समीक्षा बैठक की। मंत्री ने अधिकारियों को दो साल से अधिक समय से लंबित सभी परियोजनाओं की रिपोर्ट आठ दिनों के भीतर प्रस्तुत करने का निर्देश दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि परियोजनाओं को समय पर पूरा करने पर ध्यान दिया जाना चाहिए क्योंकि देरी से परियोजना की मूल लागत बढ़ जाती है। बैठक में मृदा एवं जल संरक्षण मंत्रालय के वरिष्ठ अधिकारी मौजूद थे।

राज्य स्वास्थ्य विभाग स्तन कैंसर के मरीजों को टेलीमेडिसिन सेवा देगा। यह सेवा एसएसकेएम अस्पतालों के डॉक्टरों द्वारा जिलों के मरीजों को प्रदान की जाएगी। पश्चिम बंगाल में 24 मेडिकल कॉलेज ओपीडी उपचार की सुविधा देते हैं और साथ ही 14 जिला अस्पताल भी हैं। इन सभी चिकित्सा संस्थानों को एसएसकेएम मेडिकल कॉलेज और अस्पताल से जोड़ा गया है।

आज पुण्यतिथि है प्रताप नारायण मिश्र की। वे हिन्दी खड़ी बोली और भारतेन्दु युग के उन्नायक कहे जाते हैं। प्रताप नारायण मिश्र ने एक लेखक, निबन्धकार, नाटककार, कवि और पत्रकार के रूप में विशेष प्रसिद्धि पाई थी। मिश्र जी की भारतेन्दु हरिश्चन्द्र में अनन्य श्रद्धा थी। वह स्वयं को उनका शिष्य कहते थे तथा देवता के समान उनका स्मरण करते थे। भारतेन्दु जैसी रचना शैली, विषयवस्तु और भाषागत विशेषताओं के कारण ही प्रताप नारायण मिश्र को ‘प्रतिभारतेन्दु’ या ‘द्वितीयचन्द्र’ आदि कहा जाने लगा था। मिश्र जी द्वारा लिखे हुए निबंधों में विषय की पर्याप्त विविधता है। देश-प्रेम, समाज-सुधार एवं साधारण मनोरंजन आदि उनके निबंधों के मुख्य विषय थे। उन्होंने ‘ब्राह्मण’ नामक मासिक पत्र में हर प्रकार के विषयों पर निबंध लिखे थे। उनको आधुनिक हिन्दी निर्माताओं में से एक माना जाता है 1891 में उन्होंने कानपुर में “रसिक समाज” की स्थापना की थी।

आज ही पुण्यतिथि है कार्नेलिया सोराबजी की। वे भारत की प्रथम महिला बैरिस्टर थीं। वे एक समाज सुधारक होने के साथ ही साथ एक लेखिका भी थीं। कार्नेलिया सोराबजी ऐसे समय में बैरिस्टर बनी थीं, जब इस क्षेत्र में महिलाओं को वकालत आदि का अधिकार प्राप्त नहीं था। अपनी प्रतिभा की बदौलत उन्होंने महिलाओं को क़ानूनी परामर्श देना आरंभ किया और महिलाओं के लिए वकालत का पेशा खोलने की मांग उठाई। 1892 में वे नागरिक क़ानून की पढ़ाई करने के लिए विदेश गयीं और 1894 में भारत लौटीं। उस समय समाज में महिलाएं मुखर नहीं थीं और न ही महिलाओं को वकालत का अधिकार था। अपनी प्रतिभा की बदौलत उन्होंने महिलाओं को क़ानूनी परामर्श देना आरंभ किया और महिलाओं के लिए वकालत का पेशा खोलने की माँग उठाई।

आज ही पुण्यतिथि है जगजीवन राम की। वे आधुनिक भारतीय राजनीति के एक शिखर पुरुष थे, जिन्हें आदर से ‘बाबूजी’ के नाम से संबोधित किया जाता था। लगभग 50 वर्षो के संसदीय जीवन में राष्ट्र के प्रति उनका समर्पण और निष्ठा बेमिसाल है। उनका संपूर्ण जीवन राजनीतिक, सामाजिक सक्रियता और विशिष्ट उपलब्धियों से भरा हुआ है। सदियों से शोषण और उत्पीड़ित दलितों, मज़दूरों के मूलभूत अधिकारों की रक्षा के लिए जगजीवन राम द्वारा किए गए क़ानूनी प्रावधान ऐतिहासिक हैं। जगजीवन राम का ऐसा व्यक्तित्व था जिसने कभी भी अन्याय से समझौता नहीं किया और दलितों के सम्मान के लिए हमेशा संघर्षरत रहे। विद्यार्थी जीवन से ही उन्होंने अन्याय के प्रति आवाज़ उठायी।

आज ही पुण्यतिथि है चेतन आनंद (निर्देशक) की। वे प्रसिद्ध हिंदी फ़िल्म निर्माता-निर्देशक और पटकथा लेखक थे। बॉलीवुड फ़िल्मों को इस स्तर पर पहली बार पहचान दिलाने का श्रेय चेतन आनंद को जाता है। चेतन आनंद सदाबहार अभिनेता देव आनंद के बड़े भाई थे। इतिहास के शिक्षक रहे चेतन ने वर्ष 1940 के दशक के शुरू में सम्राट अशोक पर एक फ़िल्म की पटकथा लिखी थी। उनका फ़िल्मी सफर वर्ष 1944 में आई फणी मजूमदार की फ़िल्म ‘राजकुमार’ से शुरू हुआ। उस फ़िल्म में वह मुख्य भूमिका में थे। चेतन ने अभिनय छोड़कर निर्देशन के क्षेत्र में किस्मत आजमाई और जल्द ही उन्होंने इतिहास रच दिया।

 

वर्ष 1946 में बतौर निर्देशक उनकी पहली फ़िल्म ‘नीचा नगर’ ने कान फ़िल्म समारोह में सर्वश्रेष्ठ फ़िल्म का पुरस्कार हासिल किया। अपने जमाने के सुपरस्टार देवानंद और निर्माता-निर्देशक विजय आनंद के बड़े भाई चेतन की बतौर निर्देशक पहली फ़िल्म ‘नीचा नगर’ ने वर्ष 1946 में पहले कान फ़िल्म समारोह में सर्वश्रेष्ठ फ़िल्म का अवार्ड जीता था। वह फ़िल्म अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर पहचान बनाने वाली पहली फ़िल्म थी। ख़्वाजा अहमद अब्बास द्वारा लिखित और उमा आनंद, कामिनी कौशल तथा रफ़ीक अहमद के अभिनय से सजी यह फ़िल्म समाज के अमीर और ग़रीब वर्ग के बीच की खाई में झांकती और मानवीय संवेदनाओं को टटोलती है। बेहतरीन निर्देशन कौशल की वजह से ‘नीचा नगर’ का शुमार भारतीय सिनेमा की बेहतरीन फ़िल्मों में किया जाता है। इस फ़िल्म ने भारतीय सिनेमा में सामाजिक यथार्थवाद के चित्रण की परम्परा शुरू की और समानांतर सिनेमा की फ़िल्मों के अन्य निर्देशकों के लिए सृजन का एक नया रास्ता खोला।

आज ही पुण्यतिथि है मणि कौल की। वे एक प्रसिद्ध फ़िल्म निर्देशक थे। उसकी रोटी, आषाढ़ का एक दिन और सतह से उठता आदमी जैसी यथार्थ की पृष्ठभूमि से जुड़ी लीक से हटकर फ़िल्में बनाने वाले प्रख्यात फ़िल्म निर्देशक मणि कौल को नए भारतीय सिनेमा के पुरोधाओं में से एक माना जाता है। जल्दी ही दुनिया में उन्होंने बड़े फ़िल्मकारों के रूप में अपनी छवि बना ली।
