Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead a special tree plantation drive at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in New Delhi today on the occasion of World Environment Day. The Ministry of Civil Aviation has directed Turkish Airlines to ensure full compliance with Convention on International Civil Aviation Standards and recommended practices as well as Directorate General of Civil Aviation regulations. The direction came following the inspections conducted by DGCA in which it found lack of proper authorization in Marshaller Competency, Aircraft Maintenance, Dangerous Goods Handling and Ground Handling Agreement. The inspections were conducted at Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bengaluru from 29th May to 2nd of this month. The inspections were carried out to ensure compliance with both international and national safety regulations.

After offering pre-dawn prayers, they will proceed to plains of Arafat today for the main ritual of Haj – reciting prayers. They will spend the day there praying and asking for God’s forgiveness. The pilgrims will listen the Khutba-e-Haj or Haj Sermon at Nimra mosque and offer midday and afternoon prayers together before leaving for Muzdalifah in the evening. The pilgrims will return to Mina tomorrow morning for ritual of animal sacrifice and symbolic stoning of devil.

Alongside education, sports have emerged as a national priority. Under the Khelo India Movement, over 1,000 training centres have been opened and 3,000 young athletes receive annual support of 6.28 lakh rupees. The Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) supports India’s top athletes with training, equipment, and international exposure. These efforts are paying off, India won 13 medals in the last two Olympics, and a record-breaking 29 medals at the Paris Paralympics. The 11th edition of IDY will witness Yoga sessions in diverse settings-from the serene peaks of Ladakh to the vibrant beaches of Kerala, school grounds to corporate campuses, and historic temple courtyards to bustling railway stations-turning over one lakh locations into sanctuaries of wellness and unity.
A key feature of IDY 2025 is the integration of technology for tracking participation. The Ministry of Ayush has launched a dedicated portal-yoga.ayush.gov.in/yoga-sangam-where organisations can register their events, conduct Yoga sessions on June 21, and upload participation data to receive an official Certificate of Appreciation. This digital interface ensures seamless documentation and enhances transparency and visibility of the initiative at a national level. Significantly, premier academic institutions such as IITs, IIMs, and Central Universities are actively contributing to the movement. These centres of excellence are not only hosting large-scale Yoga demonstrations but are also promoting its relevance in mental health, leadership development, and emotional well-being.

The researchers at IIT Madras have developed a desalination system that uses sunlight and sea water to produce 10 thousand litres of potable water a day. A compact version which soon be patented was developed on the IIT Madras campus after a pilot plant was set up at Kanyakumari, in collaboration with National Institute of Ocean Technology and with the support of the Ministry of Earth Sciences. The plant uses multi effect desalination technology where sea water is heated in stages using flat plate solar collectors, reaching about 75 degree C and transforms into steam under vacuum. The steam passes through four evaporation chambers condensing into fresh water at each stage. An ejector maintains a vacuum of 100 millibar by removing air, allowing boiling at lower temperatures. Prof. Advaith Shankar, Department of mechanical engineering IIT said that the technology can be economical, including operational and maintenance costs when scaled up.

Vijaya Rani, Joint Commissioner has said that with this, atleast 25 to 30 counsellors will be available sourced externally to offer guidance to students on a range of subjects including career guidance.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has expressed deep grief over the tragic stampede that occurred outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The stampede occurred when lakhs of RCB fans thronged the stadium where the victory celebration was planned after winning the IPL championship. In his message on social media, he expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured. The Governor has also expressed concern over the lapses that may have led to the stampede. He has urged the government to thoroughly investigate the lapses that led to the tragic incident outside the stadium and extend financial support for the families of the deceased. He also added that such incidents must not be repeated. He has called for accountability and appropriate remedial action to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.

The Telangana state Government has introduced Egg Biryani in the weekly meal plans to enhance child nutrition and attract more children to Anganwadi centres in the state. State Women and Child Welfare Minister Anasuya Seethakka announced that Egg Biryani will be served once or twice a week in Anganwadi centres to make meals both nutritious and enjoyable. She was addressing the Medho Madana Sadassu 2025 held in Hyderabad yesterday. She said the step is part of a larger strategy to tackle malnutrition and ensure holistic development of children through a play-school-like environment.

आज ही के दिन इस दुनिया को अलविदा कहा देश की आज़ादी से पहले के एक प्रतिभाशाली ग़ज़ल और गीत गायक मास्टर मदन ने ।
मास्टर मदन एक ऐसे कलाकार थे जो 1930 के दशक में एक किशोर के रूप में ख्याति प्राप्त करके मात्र 15 वर्ष की उम्र में 1940 के दशक में ही इस दुनिया को छोड़ गये थे । मास्टर मदन उस समय के प्रसिद्ध गायक कुंदन लाल सहगल के बहुत क़रीब थे जिसका कारण दोनों का ही जालंधर का निवासी होना था।
मास्टर मदन का जन्म 28 दिसंबर, 1927 को पंजाब के जालंधर ज़िले में हुआ था। उनके लगभग आठ गीत रिकॉर्ड हुए थे, जिनमें- यूँ न रह-रह कर हमें तरसाइये, हैरत से तक रहा है काफी प्रसिद्ध हुए। मात्र आठ साल की उम्र में उन्हें संगीत सम्राट कहा जाता था। आइए सुनते हैं- मास्टर मदन की आवाज में यह गीत
