President Droupadi Murmu approved the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Uttarakhand Bill, 2024. With the implementation of this Bill, Uttarakhand will become the first State in the country to implement the UCC. The Bill addresses practices such as polygamy, halala, talaaq and ensures property rights, equal marriageable age, and equal inheritance rights. Uttrakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that with the implementation of the UCC law in the State, all citizens will obtain equal rights and the oppression of women will also be curbed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the ‘Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan Evam Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan’ (PM-SURAJ) national portal and sanctioned credit assistance for one lakh entrepreneurs from disadvantaged communities. He also interacted with beneficiaries of various government schemes from disadvantaged groups through video conferencing. Addressing the programme, the Prime Minister said that the goal of Viksit Bharat can not be achieved without the development of the deprived segments. He said, the biggest beneficiaries of schemes like free ration, free medical treatment, pucca houses, toilets, and Ujjwala gas connection are the deprived segments or people living on the periphery.
PM-SURAJ national portal is a transformative initiative, aimed at uplifting the most marginalised segments of society.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone of three Semiconductor projects worth over 1.25 lakh crore rupees through video conferencing. The projects include the Country’s first commercial semiconductor fab at the Dholera Special Investment Region, Gujarat, the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test facility in Assam’s Morigaon, and the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test facility at Sanand in Gujarat.

The Government today approved two corridors of Delhi Metro Phase IV. Briefing media in New Delhi after the Cabinet meeting today, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said, the total project cost of the two corridors will be 8,400 crore rupees.
The Cabinet also approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between India and Bhutan on extending cooperation in the field of Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation Measures.

Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah today inaugurated the new office building for the three Multi-State Cooperative Societies – Bhartiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited, National Cooperative Organics Limited and National Cooperative Export Limited at World Trade Centre in New Delhi. Speaking on the ocassion, Mr Shah said that the inauguration of these offices is another significant initiative of the government to achieve the Prime Minister’s vision of Sahakar se Samriddhi.

The National Highways Authority of India has issued an advisory for Paytm FASTag users to switch to another bank FASTag before the 15th of March. In line with the guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India regarding restrictions on Paytm Payments Bank, the Paytm FASTag users will not be able to recharge or top-up the balance post the 15th of this month.

The BJP today released the second list of its 72 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Union Ministers Anurag Singh Thakur will contest from Hamirpur Parliamentary Constituency in Himachal Pradesh while Nitin Gadkari will fight from Nagpur seat and Piyush Goyal from Mumbai North in Maharashtra. Former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will fight from Karnal seat and Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar from Faridabad Parliamentary Constituency in Haryana. The list includes the names of candidates for 20 seats each in Maharashtra and Karnataka, six each in Haryana and Telangana, seven in Gujarat, five in Madhya Pradesh, two each in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand and one candidate each for Tripura and Dadar and Nagar Haveli.
The Party also released a list of all 60 candidates for the Assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Pema Khandu will contest from the Mukto Assembly constituency. The term of the current State Assembly will end on the 2nd of June this year.
In another development, the Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) has finalised a seat-sharing deal with the BJP as part of the NDA in Bihar for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. LJP Chief Chirag Paswan today met BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda in New Delhi.

In Haryana, newly appointed Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP government has won the vote of confidence by voice vote during a special Assembly session this afternoon. Mr Saini undertook the floor test just a day after he took oath as the Chief Minister of the state. A report:
“After two hours long discussion, the BJP government led by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini passed the floor test by voice vote. Notably after fissure in the ties between BJP and JJP on seat sharing issue Haryan’s former Chief Minister Manohar Lal had resigned as a Chief Minister yesterday. Following the resignation of Manohar Lal, Mr Nayab Singh Saini was elected leader of the BJP Legislature group. And in the evening after taking oath as the new Chief Minister of Haryana. Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur today launched PB-SHABD (Prasar Bharati – Shared audio-visuals for Broadcast Dissemination), a news-sharing service from Prasar Bharati in New Delhi. He also launched the revamped websites of Akashvani News and DD News and updated News on the Air mobile app. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Thakur said that Akashvani has continued to remain immensely relevant in the age of extensive mobile connectivity and is still a source of accurate information about government schemes and policies.

President Droupadi Murmu departed from Mauritius after completing her three-day official visit. During the last day of her visit, delegation-level talks were held in the National Assembly of Mauritius, attended by President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. This resulted in the signing of four MoUs to strengthen collaboration and bilateral ties.

The Union Health Ministry has termed the media reports claiming that there are no National Entrance cum Eligibility Test -Master of Dental Surgery, NEET MDS examination centres in the Northeastern States as false. The Ministry stated that there are examination centres in Northeastern States which are allotted in Shillong, Naharlagun, Kohima, Aizawl, Guwahati and Kolkata. It said, moreover, in the second application window for NEET-MDS 2024 which closed on the 11th of this month, only 560 candidates have registered.

Secretary Ministry of AYUSH Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha today inaugurated the Yoga Mahotsav 2024, celebrating the 100-day countdown to this year’s International Day of Yoga in New Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kotecha said, last year over 23 crore people participated in the International Yoga Day event and this year it is expected that more than 30 crore people will participate in it.

In Nepal, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ won the vote of confidence in Parliament today. He received 157 votes in his favour in the floor test. The CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Dahal had presented a proposal in the House of Representatives, seeking a vote of confidence. Earlier, due to a discontent in governance, the alliance between the Nepali Congress and the CPN broke.

He said, if the US send troops to Ukraine it would be considered a significant escalation of the war. In Women’s Premier League Cricket, Gujarat Giants have set the target of 127 runs for Delhi Capitals in Delhi.
Earlier, opting to bat, Gujarat Giants posted 126 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Beth Mooney led Gujarat Giants had won the toss and decided to bat.
Delhi Capitals stand at the top of the points table followed by defending champions Mumbai Indians on second spot. The two teams have already booked their spots in the playoffs. Royal Challengers Bangalore has qualified to play in the eliminator, while UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants are out of the race. The eliminator will be held on Friday and the final match on Sunday at the same venue.

In Table Tennis, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Achanta Sharath Kamal progressed to the pre-quarterfinal round of Singapore Smash today. The seasoned Indian paddler defeated World No. 13 Darko Jorgic. After losing the first game, Kamal staged an impressive comeback, to win the match 3-1 with scores 8-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9. In women’s doubles, Asian Games bronze medalists Ayhika and Sutirtha Mukherjee went down 1-3 against the duo of Adina Diaconu and Maria Xiao in the Round of 16.
